King Kone Review - Westchester - New York - The Infatuation

"This classic, roadside window service joint has been offering epic soft serve since the 1950s. The current owners took over more than 20 years ago, expanded the hard ice cream selection, and added things like burgers, lobster rolls, and fried clam strips to the menu. The full King Kone experience includes navigating the hectic parking lot, waiting in line to order, and remembering to bring cash (or getting bailed out by Venmo). There’s picnic table seating onsite, and we can’t think of a better way to enjoy the good weather once they open in April than by pulling up, grabbing a generous soft serve with sprinkles, and savoring every moment while you battle your melting reward." - Mike Wasserman

Yelp
Coffee fudge toffee ice cream is my go to non-soft serve here Soft serve is good. We did attempt a king kone once You can order a scoop of just cookie dough Lobster roll is surprisingly good and has decent amount of meat. Heart Attack burger is where it's at - the crispy fried mac and cheese layer is surprisingly good. Fries are decent. Family friendly, outdoor seating, long lines, very little parking, great hangout spot.

Yelp
Busy roadside place. Parking can be tough as lot is small, a lot of people just park on the busy road or make shift spots We moved through the line super quickly, as most people were in the food line. Ice cream was delicious and sizes huge imo, truly couldn't finish the small. Cash only. I don't consider myself lactose intolerant whatsoever and crush hard scooped ice cream daily from the grocery store. but this soft serve lowkey destroyed my stomach. i'm wondering if it has some sort of additive or higher percent lactose? idk but fyi to anyone's who's a little more on the sensitive side, maybe try hard scoop. my partners sundae of banana and almond coconut was heavenly! it was a bit pricier than expected for the area

Yelp
Ice cream taste better than any of those ice creams in the supermarket. Please believe me when I tell you . I ordered the mint chip. That's is always my go to. I've tried other flavors but mint chip is where it's at. The service is great. The lines are long but it moves quick at times. when you bring someone you can have conversation by the time you realize it your in the front placing your wonderfully tasting ice cream. There are tables and chairs outside so it's very accommodating. The parking is horrendous but you can always get a spot. Cars are always pulling in and pulling out. It's definitely worth the wait and the horrendous parking you will not be disappointed. Labor treat..

Yelp
Stopped by there for the first time. We have driven by so many times and I always wondered how an ice cream can draw such a line all the time. I found out!! This ain't just ice cream and custard. They have EVERYTHING! I did enjoy a dessert, as we just ate next door, But it was delicious and I'm coming back soon for a Lobster Roll, Hot dog, fried clams, burgers...the list is endless. The kids who work here are Friendly and Polite..This place is not just a food shack..it's a local Landmark!! Definitely stop by and check it out. Enjoy!!

Yelp
The place has become much friendlier since the scamdemic. Food was fresh cooked perfectly and much faster then expected considering how busy they are There's also line so be prepared to chill It's an outdoor establishment with picnic tables in their own space or sit in your car Prices were fair for the times we are currently living in Definitely order a burger here as it's better then almost every restaurant I have been too

Yelp
King Kone screams Americana. It's a small outdoor eatery on the side of the road with soft serve ice cream and summertime classics. This is a seasonal spot and there's always a line. There are plenty of picnic tables with umbrellas to shield you from the sun. Great for groups and families. They have lobster rolls, pull pork sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, etc. They have classic vanilla and chocolate soft serves as well as hard scoop flavors and various topping options. Cash or Venmo only.

Yelp
Great family friendly spot to grab some sweet treats on a hot summer day! The menu can be a bit overwhelming but remember keep it simple and you'll walk away with a smile on your face. Try a soft served cone and you won't regret it!

Yelp
If you are looking for a classic northern Westchester ice cream spot, this is the one. While I have tried and enjoyed the ice cream, I would say that the soft serve and other ice cream creations are what they do best. The shop is right off the road and often has either a long line or very limited parking, especially considering the busy street that you have to turn in from (a double yellow line if coming from the other direction as well). Accommodations include lots of picnic style tables and chairs, along with some counter space. The business is cash only.

Wendy R.

Yelp
Great family friendly location The reason for 3 stars is the portion sizes have been cut back ALLOT. Prices have gone up which is expected but the portion size should remain the same

Taylor K.

Yelp
It's a very dangerous location. There are too many people there on the corner right next to a main road. The ice cream and food is very expensive. The lines are very long.
google avatar

Carol S.

Yelp
Packed roadside stand with great ice cream. Never tried any of the other food but the menu is extensive.

Irene B.

Yelp
The workers were unkind. Ice cream is always phenomenal though. What business in 2024 doesn't take card and makes you feel bad about not knowing that? (There are many signs they will tell you exist and they'll make sure you know you're an idiot for not seeing them). The old women is particularly crotchety and I'm shocked she is a face of customer service at this establishment.

Nicholas C.

Yelp
I love the chocolate lover's chocolate ice cream. You really can't beat this place, it's a neighborhood staple!
google avatar

Janiya G.

Yelp
The ice cream here is always top Notch. One of the best in the area. Recommend 10/10. Can never go wrong with this place. They also don't only have ice cream they have actually food too. Just some things off of memory (Mac and cheese bites, fried pickles, chicken wings) huge variety check it out.

Ylime M.

Yelp
Heaven on earth! They are soft serve is the stuff of dreams. There is no better way to enjoy a beautiful summer evening than to sit outside and enjoy a twist cone! Don't forget the jimmies!

Janet G.

Yelp
best ice cream in the area! I'm always sad when they close in the fall. Be prepared to wait, lines are long.

Rm H.

Yelp
this is such good ice cream it is the best I have ever had love it you should definitely go

Yelp
Grew up going to King Kone and hadn't been here in perhaps two decades until this past week. Got their classic vanilla-chocolate twist soft-serve with rainbow sprinkles, and while it was good, I was kind of tired of it after a while. It wasn't as flavorful as nearby Carvel or had that "oomph" a great soft serve has. With the lines so long, I say pass and go to Carvel instead in Mount Kisco. But if the line is short (a rarity), it's worth checking out:

Yelp
Old school ice cream and fried food in an outdoor picnic-table setting on the side of the road in a beautiful area. The ice cream, is of course, fantastic (they also make shakes and other treats), but the fried food is underrated as well. It's not just pretzels, hot dogs, and hockey puck burgers...the burgers are actually delicious (they use good quality meat), and they offer unexpected treats like lobster rolls, pulled pork sandwiches, and shrimp tempura which are phenomenal. The ambience is a throwback to a simpler time, the owners are wonderful people, and this place provides jobs for local teens to hone their work ethic. If you don't like King Kone, there's something wrong with you, not with King Kone.

Yelp
King Kone is a well-established ice cream stand known for their soft serve and hard ice creams BUT what most people don't know is that they offer a very eclectic menu of food that is very good. I have friends who replied to my other social media post they didn't there was that much food offered. We ate the lobster roll platter and hamburger. They make the lobster salad daily and some days 2-3 times so it's nice and fresh according to woman I messaged. The platter comes with seasoned fries and a small cup of coleslaw. The lobster roll was made up of a mayo based cold lobster salad with a substantial flavor of lemon. I liked the kick of lemon because it elevated the flavor. It was served on a nice toasted bun. The fries were crispy and tasty. Could have done w/o the coleslaw, not that good. My husband's cheeseburger served on a brioche bun was hearty and tasty. Lettuce and Tomato are extra. There is something for meat and seafood lovers as well as a kid's menu. Some food items are fried shrimp, crab cake, clam strips, lobster club, chicken & waffles, grilled cheese, pulled pork, mac & cheese bites, fried raviolis. Their menu is online so check it out. DON'T FORGET THE ICE CREAM: cones, cups, dips, sundaes, smoothies, milk shakes, banana splits, etc. It's cash only but they have an onsite ATM and lots of picknick tables under shaded trees if you want to eat outdoors. They are not open year-round so check that info online too.

Yelp
If you have anything bad to say about King Kone, then go home, because you don't deserve King Kone. If you're a Gen Xer (or older) this place will take you back in time. Delicious soft serve and simple 'in a basket' foods done well. Service is always friendly and fast. Plenty of seating under the umbrella tables. Parking can be tricky, but worth the effort.

Yelp
The ice cream is soooo good so many options I visited for the first time and I loved it my girlfriend was so excited to hear they were finally open

Amanda M.

Yelp
beyond disappointing - went to king kone all the way from mahopac and it was closed when the hours are until 10pm on a saturday night. ridiculous and they should have disclosed this information on their instagram account. getting too big for the britches!!!!!!

Yelp
Always the right choice for ice cream. I have Italian friends that are particular with their Gelato and Ice cream choices. They absolutely loved their choices today!

Yelp
Excellent ice cream and easy to find Nice seating area and friendly staff who are happy with suggestions.

Yelp
Lines form quickly and the wait was extensive. Our order was wrong and the manager (I'm assuming he was the manager, he didn't take our order and was the rudest/loudest person behind the counter) was demeaning. He did fix it and told us we were trying to get free food. Girl, that food isn't tasty enough to steal. You murdered my old bay fries with seasoning and your shrimp was nasty. Ice cream was good.
google avatar

Yelp
I came to get an ice cream cone on 6/6. I waited in line socially distancing. There were signs all over but this was my first time so I was reading the menu. I go up to order and get a small twist CONE with rainbow sprinkles. $4.88. I wait for my ticket number to be called only to be handed a covered cup of twist ice cream with sprinkles. I said I ordered a cone. I was told "we are not serving cones". I said then why was I not told that when I ordered. He went and asked the lady in front who said there were signs all over saying they were not serving cones. I was handed a cone in wax paper on the side. I said I was only taking the ice cream bc it was already served. I will never come back. Overpriced and bad attitude.
google avatar

Erica B.

Yelp
Best ice cream ever! Enough said. They are cashless but accept venmo which is cool. Defibiteky a must when in katonah.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Ice cream, ice cream, I cream. Get your ice cream here! Open about half the year the ice cream is delicious' as of wide variety. It's a good setup and if you live, go to school, eat, play drive through the area, most likely you've stopped by on a warm evening, gotten line and been very satisfied when the oversized scoops finally ready your hands and subsequently your lips. Come over, mingle with locals, have some great ice cream and make it one of your families traditions also!!

Alexander C.

Yelp
I've never been a huge ice cream guy but I think this place changed that. Any flavor I've tried has been delicious and I can't get enough of it. I have to say my favorite is certainly Cinnamon bun but if you ask my girlfriend she says cappuccino crunch is the clear winner, so cappuccino crunch it is. Everyone in my family loves this place, highly recommend. 10/10

Yelp
Here is what I love about this place.... It is one of the best spots for Ice Cream--and lots of it!! Whether you get a cone or a cup, they have some amazing sundaes. One of my favorites is the s'mores sundae. For $8.50, you get a lot of ice cream to fill your craving twice over. If you have a dinner craving, don't miss their lobster roll platter. The freshest lobster on a role with fries and cole slaw for $23.50. Go to Maine and this price goes up by a lot. If Lobster is not your thing, try their Heart Attack Burger. Pun intended... it is to die for! This is one of the best 'off-the-side-of-the-road' spots in Westchester. Plan a trip here and then head over to Lasdon Park for a walk. Keep two things in mind, this place is only open until about Mid October and then it closes for the winter and opens mid to late spring. The second thing to keep in mind is that this place does not accept credit cards. Bring cash or have a Venmo account ready to pay.

Yelp
Great ice cream ! This is not a sit down store, you walk up to the window and order what you want and then you move to the side is the building and pick up your order when completed. There are picnic. Tables, chairs to sit in next to it. Masks are required and there is a plexiglass separation and social distancing for ordering and standing in line. Popular place. $6.50 for small malted , it was delicious . They have hard and soft serve ice cream , flavors change, and also have regular food items. Will return when in the area.

Yelp
Can't beat a classic ice cream shop! Small little spot off the side of a main road With great ice cream. I love their cones too. Much better than the stale ones you get at places like carvel. Cash only!
google avatar

Yelp
A landmark among ice cream fanatics. Indulge your sweet tooth! For some it s a whistle stop...for others it's ice cream Mecca. (Great banana splits!)
google avatar

Yelp
The winner hands down for soft serve ice cream. Mine gets dipped in chocolate! Also try the raspberry sorbet and vanilla soft serve parfait.. heaven!

Jackie B.

Yelp
"Who doesn't like ice cream?" as quoted by my 6-year-old grandson. Well, it's more than that. King Kone is one of those nostalgic places. Everyone who lives in the vicinity has memories of early summer nights going for a soft serve (Dairy Queen style). It now has hard ice cream and food too! There's always a crowd, a slew of sports' team members buzzing and chatting happily around the picnic tables. You don't even mind waiting since it's such a happy place! It's the kind of place that's generational and evokes a sense of joy! If you're anywhere near route 100 and 35 off of 684--check it out!!!
google avatar

Yelp
2 King Cups... Is this what they are supposed to look like? Very disappointed. $7.50 each for a half filled cup.
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time last week. It's cash only, so make sure you have cash! The parking situation was tough, even though they have a lot of spots. It's just a busy road and difficult to find a spot safely. They have an adorable outside area with picnic tables and umbrellas, and it even has a little play area for the kiddies. I loved that they had some unique flavors of (hard) frozen yogurt. I had the raspberry chocolate chunk and it was really tasty. My husband had the blueberry cheesecake, which was also yummy. For a small cup and a large waffle cone, it came to $9.50 PS they do serve food here (hot dogs, etc) but we did not have any.
google avatar

Yelp
awesome place love the kone first time there Deliciious ice cream Vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles my favorite friendky staff, plenty of outdoor seating, plenty on tge menu- Lots to choose from will definitely be back

Yelp
On my way back from my job in Yorktown when I stopped off at King Kone to get a couple chilli dogs which I usually do a few times per week. This time I had my electric bicycle with me and I plugged it in the only outlet I could find outside. So the owner of the place shows up and starts yelling "what's wrong with you" "your gonna blow my buildings breaker and melt all my ice cream" "you're blocking my employees unmarked entrance". He was a jerk and made me feel like I was a real p.o.s. I wish he just asked me to move it and I didn't have to re-live that trauma. I'll be stopping at 7-11 from now on to avoid the way that guy made me feel.

Rene L.

Yelp
What's not to love. Old fashioned drive in. Fabulous ice cream, great food. Families galore at outdoor tables under bright colored umbrellas. It's opened for the season now.Can not wait for the best hotdogs anywhere!
google avatar

Lara G.

Yelp
This is a fun treat on a hot day or when you're on the run. There's a sandbox area for children to play in so you can have some mommy time with your friends. My son loves the cheeseburgers, I enjoy the bacon cheese fries! The ice cream is always a win-win.
google avatar

Lance R.

Yelp
King Kone doesn't need my review. They are a drive-in ice cream stand. What more do you need to know. Every time I go, I get happy. Service is quick and cordial. Ice cream is smooth and creamy. I only get soft-serve. I don't need anything else. They have burgers and stuff. Once I got a root beer float. Every other time I got a chocolate/vanilla swirl in a cup. Sometimes with hot fudge. Sometimes with peanuts. Sometimes both. They take cash or Venmo. They have an ATM nearby. You're all set. Now go.
google avatar

Marissa S.

Yelp
Reminded me of Carvel soft serve. They had both soft serve and hard ice cream, and a ton of toppings to choose from. The soft serve was good, but not amazing. Classic ice cream joint. Be prepared to wait on line! We lucked out and only had to wait for about 5 minutes, but the line was about 25 people deep by the time we finished ordering. People just kept coming in droves.

Ben D.

Yelp
Great place! It's a classic outdoor experience. The food worth the trip. There's a chicken and waffles dish I can't get enough of but of course King Cone is known for their ice cream - great options!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome and everything on the menu is delicious. This is my go to spot for fried food and some great ice cream!!! Do yourself a favor and order the onion rings!

Yelp
KING KONE IS INSANE. I literally LIVE for this place. My girlfriend is from Yorktown, but whenever I am at her house, I AM THE BAD INFLUENCE THAT BRINGS THE FAMILY TO KING KONE.... all you have to do is utter the two mighty words and you will be swimming in a river of vanilla and chocolatey ice cream goodness. I am weird and my thing is whenever I go to dope ice cream places like this, I try their brownie. The brownie here is really good. I get it mixed into a birthday cake flurry which is like a cake batter mcflurry with brownie bits and rainbow sprinkles and it is literally a party in my mouth. Social distancing is and always has been in effect. Have only ever had ice cream here. I literally wanna pass out everytime i eat the cream here its DANG GOOOOOD!

Dima S.

Yelp
For the life of me I will never understand the appeal of this place. It's just regular ice cream. Nothing special about it whatsoever!!! Yet people line up waaaay down the street and wait forever to get their ice cream. There never isn't a ridiculous line. I refuse to ever try this place again because I have a life and won't be spending my time standing on an unreasonably long line just for regular ice cream. Also, if you ever make it to the front, which we did once, the workers are total dingbats.
