The 5 Best Things To Eat In Helen, Georgia During Oktoberfest

"Giant Pretzel & Beer Cheese King Ludwig’s Biergarten has one of the most lively scenes during Oktoberfest. Musicians serenade the crowds while servers usher steins of beer and light bites to the courtyard picnic tables. After approaching double digits on our Bavarian pretzel count, we feel confident enough to name King Ludwig’s our favorite. That’s largely due to the excellent beer cheese that packs a flavorful punch and speedy service (which comes in handy after a few pints of beer). Plus, the warm pretzel had a good amount of chew, salt, and crunch—which adds up to a perfect excuse to sneak away to the service counter for another pretzel and to readjust your lederhosen. " - demarco williams, juli horsford

Atmosphere was fun with live entertainment and the gentleman that was singing and playing the guitar was very good. My family all had bratwurst plate with sauerkraut and potatoes. Food came out fast and was very delicious I would definitely recommend for anyone in town looking for a quick bite

Google
Had a wonderful experience. Staff were pleasant, giant pretzel with beer cheese was delicious and good music! Definitely a highlight of our Helen trip.

Google
Great place to stop for a beer and music after shopping & eating in town. They have a great musician on Friday-Monday that sings 1970-80 music. Lots of fun!! We stopped 3 times during our stay, but never tried the food, so I can’t comment.

Google
Pretty cool little German town in Helen GA! They have a mountain roller coaster that you need to try... we also did a love lock, but I'm not sure I would waste your money on that as the city cuts the lock and throws it away once a week. So it is not there forever like it used to be... dissappointing.

Google
Loved the cheese sausage plate and the pork plate. Great potatoes and potato salad with them. Quick service and delicious German food. Loved it!

Google
This place is in the center of a lot of stores and eateries. I enjoyed the live music. What I didn’t enjoy was paying $4 more for a drink than advertised then being lied to about it. When we asked our server about it he initially said the menus were several years old and he thought they got rid of all of those, then said about 2 years ago, and then about a month old when we asked follow up questions. He apologized every time he gave us a different timeframe then placed the menu back by the condiments on the table. We asked a woman about it and she told us that the prices changed the week before and that they just haven’t gotten around to making new menus and offered us water for the inconvenience. She also placed the menus back afterwards SMH. It’s a nice area and the food was decent, but I did not appreciate the deceptive pricing and being gaslit by the staff. My recommendation is for anyone that wants reasonably and accurately priced drinks to go to the Mexican restaurant across from the mountain coaster.

Google
Perfect beer garden Good selection of great German beers! Super pretzels with beer cheese. They even serve trash beer for you redneck uncle

Google
I'd give this a higher rating if it wasn't for the fact that the price for a pretzel read $11, and the bill for it was $14. I thought we scored a deal at this place. Unfortunately not. The pretzel was hot and delicious though. There was entertainment provided. Seemed to be playing all Beatles songs. Not sure how often they wipe the tables down though, stayed for awhile and didn't see anyone cleaning.

Yelp
I don't know man. Been to Helen so many times with different friends, family members and sometimes just me and my wife. This is one place that I never stopped visiting. It is a beer temple. Just one paulaner oktoberfest steiner and a pretzel and that is all I ever need from a Helen dinner or lunch. Best beer I ever tasted and period. I think they need to make a souvenir using these two items and I would proudly display it on my fridge. This is the heart of Helen! The very essense of Helen! The smell and sound of Helen. For me at least. If you are visiting Helen, and miss this place you didn't visit Helen.

Yelp
Cool Biergarten experience in the center of town with several beers on tap. There are several tables and umbrellas which are great on a hot sunny day. There's also corn hole, a giant chess set, and space for a live performer. The only things I think could be improved is that I wish it was cleaner. We came in the evening and both the tables and ground could've used a wipe down and sweep. Also, there's a 25% gratuity charge automatically added to the bill.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Great taste of Germany! The cheddarwurst sausage was awesome, covered in sauerkraut and available spicy mustard packets. Great garlic butter bun (I think, cuz the pork shanks came with garlic bread). The pork shanks indeed fell off the bone and was delicious. Loved the potato salad that came with it. Very happy with our meal, cool little patio and live music.
google avatar

Greg O.

Yelp
Plenty of tables under cover so there's shade and if it rained it should protect from that too. The large beer in the reusable plastic mug is the deal to get, refills are cheaper and the mugs are accepted at most other places in town. The night we drank here they played a variety of music. A different night they had a live performer.
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Such a cool spot! There is a large outdoor seating space with tons of tables for people to hang out and listen to live music. There is an outdoor bar and umbrellas and would be an amazing spot for adults to hang out and grab some drinks. Live music was cool too!

Gorgina O.

Yelp
Food was delicious ! Service was great , server very friendly , attentive and fast service. Place was comfy , clean and organized. We'll definitely going back again when I'm in the area! Thank you.

Yelp
This place was great. Good little spot to stop for beers and lunch with the family. The GM Anthony was awesome too. Very helpful!
google avatar

Yelp
Happened to get a table here to watch the parade for the Oktoberfest 2024 celebration! While the parade left something to be desired, King Ludwig's is every German experience you're looking for. Huge German beers, giant Bavarian pretzels, fun music and a fun atmosphere! It's a must pop-in when in Helen, GA?
google avatar

Kristina P.

Yelp
We stopped here a few nights during our long weekend stay in Helen to get some Oktoberfest beer. The prices were good, the atmosphere was fun, and they always had live music going. If you want a snack while having a beer, I recommend the GIANT pretzel!!
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
We went to Helen this past year for Oktoberfest. And we had a great time at King Ludwigs!! This live music was so fun! We danced and drank beer all day! The food was mediocre!- I would definitely come here more for the experience during Oktoberfest. I cannot speak for what this spot is like not during Oktoberfest in Helen.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
It is what it is, a Biergarten on Main Street! Busy, noisy, lots of shared seating! If you're looking for that, great place!
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Whenever we are in the area, we stop here. It's a must have. The beer variety is great and the pretzel and beer cheese is something I dream about in between visits..
google avatar

Tony M.

Yelp
This is my to go spot. The beer on tap is always good and German beer you can never go wrong with. The pretzels are good and German sausage is epic. Located in center Helen with live music and patio sitting. The bar staff are cool and service is friendly and efficient.

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Everything was great! It was raining and tried the GULASCHSUPPE and pretzel ! Best experience ever! Highly recommended! Tried and orange soda with coke super delicious
google avatar

Claribel R.

Yelp
Cute place. Good beer. Got a fun refillable souvenir mug out of it and of course a great pic opportunity.
google avatar

K H.

Yelp
So fun, of course was packed due to being Oktoberfest, but just the same it was a good time.
google avatar

Cristen H.

Yelp
Would have loved to have a beer here and enjoy the music, but the bartender and a patron were hogging the oversized chess board meant for families. The bartender was busy serving patrons, as he should, so the game was indefinitely on pause. It was weird and rude and my kids wanted to move on.
google avatar

Laiza H.

Yelp
I come here for their pretzel! Pretty big, soft and the beer cheese is very good. They have outdoor sitting and the tables are kinda like picnic tables. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready and you can sit wherever you want. They have free water and ice that you can serve yourself and/or fill up your dog water bowl.
google avatar

Terri S.

Yelp
Great outdoor biergarten with plenty of communal tables and plenty of people watching for entertainment. Super cute place with several shops and restaurants right in biergarten square. Here's a tip, when you order a beer at King Ludwigs, get it in the Souvenir mug, you will get a $2.00 discount for the rest of your stay with that mug. Win win! They have a food menu and the pretzels and HUGE! Staff was friendly and the patio is dog friendly. I love this place and would def recommend! I was here for 3 days and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because on Friday it was raining off and, on all day, and night. They did not open any of the umbrellas to help keep tables or patrons dry. Why have umbrellas if you are not going to use them? I would have stayed on Saturday, but everything was wet...
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Cool place! Lots of drinks to choose from! A little pricey so bring some dough! The menu has a good bit to choose from but we went simple with a large pretzel and beer cheese for a late afternoon snack with drinks. My girl had a margarita she said wasn't too bad. I had a draft Strongbow that was very good! You get to keep the plastic mug and you should at these prices! Fun place, but more to choose from! Lots of people are smoking, so if it bothers you, you might wanna keep walking.

Yelp
It's a fun place, fun atmosphere. However, it is very expensive. To grab a couple pictures of there and maybe a snack it's worth it. But you will dig deep into your pockets if you go all out. We did visit it 3 times during our extended weekend trip. Service was good.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
This is a nice beer garden right in the center of Helen, GA and they typically have live music playing. In my experience they also had really great bartenders who were really helpful and had some great tips about places that stay open later at MUCH of Helen closes very early by my standards. This is an all outside venue so make sure to dress for the weather. Overall this was one of the more pleasant places I was able to enjoy during my trip to Helen, GA and I would certainly visit again.
google avatar

Charlie V.

Yelp
This place is fun and the service at the front register was great. Definitely grab a giant pretzel with cheese and if you do like German beer, this is the place for you. Being an IPA guy, I ordered the only one on the menu and they were out of it. No worries, I had a Paulaner and enjoyed the great weather. One of the employees, Chris, was running around trying his best to help people out by expediting their food/ beer orders. I think they should just put a QR code on the tables and have someone run drinks. Chris was a little overwhelmed and kept apologizing for how "long" of a wait it was, and it really wasn't that bad considering the number of patrons. Day/Month of visit: Wednesday, November *I was told that this entire place is packed on the weekends, especially in the summer. *There is one road into Helen and one road out. Prepare for the traffic, which was pretty congested on a Tuesday at 11 am. It's a tourist trap, but worth checking out.
google avatar

Claudia A.

Yelp
Very happy to have run into this place small bar. Their beers were delicious, they offer souvenir cups. We tried two German beers and their pretzel, both delicious. Ambiance is very chill, many tourists. During Covid, they're being careful wearing masks and all. Make sure to tip your bartender!
google avatar

Cara R.

Yelp
Ready for some German food? This place is fun and has a broad variety on the menu. Offering home made spatzle, and many traditional German options. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable with the inside restaurant, offering large open seating area, which is a good option for large groups however, I found the lighting to be very bright and felt if they turn the lights down just a bit it would make for a nicer dining experience. Overall the food was good with some excellent German beer options!!

Yelp
Konig Ludwig Biergarten is where we had lunch. It was at Helen Square where we also went to the Windmill, the Dutch store. No other reason than it is conveniently close and on the same street level. I asked about how to order the board written special. Kind of unintelligible "at the bar"...ok. the special is a 10" long corn dog with a bag of salty, crunchy potato chips. I also ordered an $11+ pretzel with cheese dip. Sprite rather than a stein of beer. The ordering process is slow, and I didn't get a receipt. I just know that it is around $30. They call my name when it is ready to be picked up from the bar. Lucky me that the guy saw me struggling to get off the picnic bench seat and brought over our order. Muhh...corn dog corn meal dough is not fully cooked, making for a bland hot dog inside. The pretzel was better. A musician was setting up. There is going to be some entertainment. We didn't wait. King Ludwigs Biergarten was an easy and convenient place to be at the time.

Yelp
Fun times at the Bier Garden! Usually a live band and/or guitarist playing tunes while you suck down 32 oz draft beers under the blue skies and Mountain shadows of downtown Helen, GA. Pro Tip: Make sure you bring/wear your MAGA garb to fit in around here. If you don't have any, no worries you can buy your own personalized set of MAGA Crocs from one of the 35 different stores selling them around town!
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Wide open beer garden with some decent beer choices and German food. Sauerkraut smell wafting as you walk in making it feel very authentic. Live music and lots of tables. Nice place to sit and chill. We only had a pretzel as part of the tour we were taking but that was delicious! I am sure this is a party spot during Oktoberfest or even in the evenings.
google avatar

Julianne M.

Yelp
Security/waiter staff was aggressive and started assaulting their guests at closing for no reason. Would not go back, their staff doesn't know how to deal with people who have been drinking. They instigated a fight instead of just walking away and letting people walk away. A guy got punched in the face by staff for no reason.
google avatar

Drew F.

Yelp
If you've been to Germany or eaten authentic German food, keep your expectations in check. This was mediocre food at best.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Great outdoor biergarten. I ordered a cider and a pretzel. Both were delicious. Food came out fast and the bartender was super fast with the drink order and delivery. Pretzel snack came out quickly and the server who brought it was friendly and personable. It was a great outdoor spot to relax a moment from shopping and have a snack.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cool beer garden right near the center of downtown Helen. The area is a hub of local shops with outdoor seating for the beer garden towards the center of the area. You can walk up and order your drinks and then have a seat. There are servers that check on you and they have a food menu as well. We didn't partake in food this time since we had eaten a large lunch earlier and were still full. We came by on a chilly night after most of the crowds of the day had dispersed so we could find a spot with some distance from others (during COVID.) We opted to order some German style beers in their large souvenir mugs. Figured we might as well embrace the tourist experience, plus refills are discounted after you purchase the cups which hold a lot. We had two rounds before we got a bit too chilly to sit outside any longer. Some portable heaters would be an awesome addition to this cool spot. I'd stopped by this place previously a long time ago during Oktoberfest which was also a blast. It's a great place to enjoy drinks, food, people watching, and a fun ambience in the cute town of Helen!
google avatar

Javier M.

Yelp
The wife and I had an amazing experience here, had less than a 5 minute wait, this place was completely full but everyone seems to be happy, the beer kept coming.
google avatar

Cass G.

Yelp
This place is right in the center of Helen and it's got a bunch of picnic tables and l8ve music. We got a big plastic souvenir mug too. Beer was cold and thr ambiance is just as if you were in Germany...
google avatar

Brandy B.

Yelp
This places is great,we frequented it when we're there. A great place to stop and have a drink and a snack and admire the town.
google avatar

Ashlee B.

Yelp
This place gets PACKED. We were lucky enough to snag a spot at the bar, which definitely made for a better experience. We buddied up with one of the bartenders who gave us great service, but he was pretty short with the people in line waiting to order. The huge souvenir cups do the trick and they have a bunch of beers on tap to choose from. We each had 2 beers and were feeling pretty toasty. Also love that it is dog friendly as we had our pups barside with us. The owner was hanging out at the bar the whole time we were and was very friendly making sure we were enjoying ourselves. If you can snag a bar spot, it is a great way to be front and center on the action without constantly being bumped or having the crowd push past you.
google avatar

Ian T.

Yelp
Great place to get a beer and bite in Helen! Possibly the best, great patio, bartender, beer selection, and prices! Oh! Get a monster hot soft pretzel!!! Was the best I've had!
google avatar

Eriv S.

Yelp
Food wasn't great but the atmosphere was good. Would have enjoyed the outside seating but it was pouring. Friendly staff, wry helpful
google avatar

Cristina M.

Yelp
We always love to get a beer and people watch during Oktoberfest. We came here last weekend. We love to grab a beer and dance and enjoy the scenery. We came with kids but advise of you want the experience and want to drink, do not bring kids. There are shops all around and music is loud. Since this is an open area people do smoke and seem not to care where they do it. People do get pretty rowdy especially as night approaches.
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
Beer Tent in Bavarian Burb. Beer! In 32 ounce steins (discount if you bring your own plastic big gulp) Loud music all day and evening, sometimes live, occasionally a DJ, always playing. Nice bartenders. Delivery from local pizza joint is available.... But you're here to drink!
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
The pretzel was good but that's all that they had today. Patio was rained on but we found a seat. Staff was interesting.
google avatar

Solomon C.

Yelp
a modest beer garden with live music and typical "german pub fare" Minus one star for a guy playing country music during Oktoberfest. "Margaritaville" and "Amarillo by morning" is hardly "German"

Nat T.

Yelp
Ehhh. The bartender with the beard was in a bad mood and really ruined our experience at this restaurant. Won't be back. I understand we all have bad days but he was rude for no reason. Don't recommend.
google avatar

Sharonda W.

Yelp
Allen is the best bar tinder I've ever had. Helen Ga is the best place for tourists! Ask for Allen if you stop by heresy ! This place is definitely a vibe. Highly recommend this placed for food and drinks!
google avatar

Hydration S.

Yelp
Decent. It was a busy weekend when we went, so they were sold out of nearly everything. Even some of their drinks. The environment was fun though. There was live music, big tables, and you seat yourself. The Reuben was good. The vegetable/ chicken rolls tasted like frozen taquitos though. Overall, it was okay.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Best place ever! Good food, variety of drinks, and the friendliest bartenders and staff! Great entertainment by Mike! Wonderful singer. Meet so many nice people and just pure fun!
google avatar

Virgil S.

Yelp
The Biergarten is awesome! Possibly the best Germany Village vibe here in Helen. Great live music, great drink selections including Das Boot!! Such a great vibe here
google avatar

Ashton M.

Yelp
Not impressed. This place was dirty and dingy. I placed an order for a pretzel with beer cheese. About 15 minutes of waiting goes by, and I see a pretzel placed onto the countertop. A few more minutes pass and no one calls our my order. I finally go snatch it from behind the counter--and no one notices or says anything. Very poor service and mediocre bar food.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Great spot in the middle of Helen. Great drink selection with fair prices. The people working are great . Live music was a plus while having a beer and people watching. I had the pretzel roll sandwich with spicy mustard and would highly recommend it. Kid and let friendly.
