New York’s King of Falafel Is Planning a Chicago Expansion | Eater Chicago

"A famed New York halal-cart-turned-restaurant founded by Palestinian immigrant Fares “Freddy” Zeideia is opening its first location outside New York in suburban Chicago Ridge as a takeout-and-drive-thru-only spot slated for mid-September. The chef-owner, who began with a food cart in Astoria in 2002 and has since grown to two trucks and a restaurant while resisting outside investors, intends to reproduce the exact feel and menu of his original operation and plans additional Chicago-area locations (and eventually restaurants in Dallas), plus a local food truck despite restrictive city rules. The owner is known for hands-on customer rapport—returning to work immediately after open-heart surgery—and for outspoken Palestinian pride, adding “Free Palestine” to the branding and placing images of politicians on the floor for customers to step on, a politically charged tactic that has drawn both backlash (including efforts to falsely mark the business closed online) and widespread support amplified by social media. He chose the suburban site partly because of family and a business partner in the area and because of the large local Palestinian community nearby." - Ashok Selvam

This was my first time here and they did not disappoint. They were so kind and friendly, I felt like I was visiting family. We had the falafel sandwich and the mixed Shawarma platter. The falafel is the best I've ever had and the mixed Shawarma was SO good!!! Also, the portion sizes are so generous, I can definitely make 2 meals out of each. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I will definitely be back!

Went here for a beef shawarma wrap and it was my first time coming here. The owner was sooooo kind and welcoming. He gave me samples of the falafel, chicken, rice, and pickles. I’ve tried falafel in the past and never enjoyed it but this was DELICIOUS. I also ended up ordering a chicken pita sandwich because what I tasted was so good. The rice and pickles were delicious too. Everything I tried was fresh and flavorful. Even if the owner hadn’t been as kind as he was the food itself was enough to make you want to go back. Also the prices. Very reasonably priced and good portions if you’re into that sort of thing.

Absolutely Outstanding! King of Falafel and Shawerma in Worth is a hidden gem that absolutely lives up to its name. The food here is incredible — everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The portion sizes were generous, making it a great value for the price. I’ve had falafel all across the U.S., and I can confidently say theirs is the best I’ve ever tasted. Crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside — simply perfect. The service was also top notch. Friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about the food they serve. You feel genuinely welcomed from the moment you walk in.

I was greeted by Suphi as I walked in. I ordered the Omar and the Freddy Jr. He asked if I wanted it spicy or not. Food was beyond delicious, generous portions. I've been back about once a week and both the food and service are exceptional. I recently tried the Shawaffle, it comes in chicken or beef and was filling and delicious. I noticed they also have food trucks and the food is just as fresh and tasty.
