Yelp
Here is what, I assume, is a fairly common situation - we arrived in Charleston mid-afternoon, got to our hotel, checked in, and then said "well, what should we do for dinner tonight?" When you don't have a reservation and you're looking for suitable places for a good meal, I'd urge you to think of this spot. One caveat, however, it's NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS, or at least not in the evenings.
Our impressions, both good and "bad", but not much is actually bad;
* The food was really, really good. Like, we were surprised how good the food was. I had the chicken Caesar salad and it was shockingly great. My dining companion had the burger and said the same.
* The atmosphere is confusing. There are booths but most people were crowded around the bar. I think it is more of a bar at night and seemed to be a younger hangout. This having been said, plenty of people were ordering food from barstools.
* The musician was good but the speakers were pretty loud, especially for only around 7:45 PM. I could have skipped the musician all together or suggest they don't start as early, or turn it down a bit. We could barely hear the bartenders and ourselves at times.
* Beer selection was very nice and I think they could make even the pickiest person a nice drink with the impressively stocked bar.
* The surrounding area of King Street can get a bit ghetto at night with lots of drunk college kids, mentally-ill "homeless" types, and of course all kinds of other people (old, young, bachelorette parties, etc). I can take it for limited amounts of time but it's certainly not an area I love.
