King Sushi - Review - Jackson - Jackson Hole - The Infatuation

"Sure, King Sushi does standard sashimi and nigiri, but the creative stuff makes it the best raw fish spot in town. If you’re unsure about combining fruit and sushi, you won’t be after trying a Juju roll—there’s some delicious tang of green apple, delicate hamachi, and creamy avocado, all tied together with a savory, smoked salt. The tiny log cabin fills up fast, especially when the summer patio isn’t open, so you’ll need a reservation well in advance. Come here to dress up, share some edamame and a few rolls, and enjoy a cozy date night." - Lanie Brice

The 14 Best Restaurants In Jackson Hole

"King Sushi proves you can still have some excellent raw fish even if you’re in a mountain town. Located on King Street in downtown Jackson, this log cabin is decorated with fish-inspired art and serves pressed sushi, specialty sashimi, and creative house rolls like the JuJu, with green apple, avocado, hamachi, and smoked sea salt. It’s a great place to cozy up on date night. " - kristen pope

Incredible sushi (especially rolls), cozy ambiance if you can get a table, but lackluster and curt service (more below). This was the first time we were able to get seats despite a number of separate trips to Jackson, so we were pretty excited - the food did not disappoint and I’ll talk more about that in a second, but the service was a bummer, especially given the price point. The staff is clearly differential and much warmer to locals, which I somewhat understand, but we tried to be especially kind and patient and they were disinterested and blunt. We tried to place a to go order as we were leaving because we wanted to bring some rolls back for some family, and long story short we ended up waiting for about an extra 30 minutes, but there was a mixup and the order was never actually placed, though we had already paid for the rolls. They re-ran the check and removed the rolls we didn’t get, but us like we were an inconvenience and an offer any form of compensation. Having worked in hospitality, I would’ve handled it very differently. That said, the food was incredible and genuinely some of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had in my life! The Roo was incredible! The nigiri was definitely high-quality fish, and we really enjoyed the albacore tuna and the salmon as standouts. I would probably pass on the hand rolls, but the gyoza and pork belly buns were delicious. Next time (if we are so luck), would love to try the crunchy tuna rice!

Who knew the best sushi we’d find in the US would be in a log cabin in Wyoming?! Absolutely wonderful experience. Everything was fresh and made with love. Make a reservation ASAP - this place is very small and fills up quickly!

Google
100% recommend. The restaurant was small and cozy. So welcoming and the service was spectacular. The sushi was phenomenal! This wouldn't have been something we normally went to for dinner, but based on recommendations of 12/10, we went. It was so good, I want to go back a second night in a row.

Google
We love sushi and King Sushi 🍣 delivered with delicious options! Our favorite was the hidden dragon roll. Crouching tiger roll and Jackson roll were also delicious and unique. Truly a delightful bite each time. The flavors melt together in wonderful ways. Sake was delicious. Uni spoon and oysters were great. Most friendly staff and quaint, cozy seating. Make a reservation! We lucked out with a walk in table, but won’t try that again!

Google
I tried The Crouching Tiger and New King rolls were crazy fresh and full of flavor. Cool vibes, great sushi—definitely coming back!

We waited 2 months to get in this place and it was sooooo worth it!! Food was absolutely amazing! 5 stars all day! BUT, the service was seriously lacking from an establishment with this reputation. I won't go into a huge rant which wouldn't be hard, but the dude started off strong, and took our order and we didn't see him again until he dropped the check. We were missing an app, we ordered a bottle of sake, which he rightfully talked us into, a carafe came, he never came back to refill waters or correct the sake situation, the food runners (I assume) were notified and still it took too long to correct the mistakes. He refilled water after he dropped the check, but our friend had already left the restaurant 20 minutes prior and he refilled her empty glass and not mine. Something was just seriously off and although the food was great, we won't be back. We were looking forward to an experience, not having to look for our server for over an hour. 3 stars to be fair because the food is amazing. Get someone in there who cares about guests!

Google
I don’t usually write reviews but this is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had! The service was great, the aesthetic of the place was very cool and the sushi was incredible! We originally tried to go to a different sushi spot but the wait was too long and man am I glad it worked out the way it did! Don’t miss this spot!

Google
WOW! Where do I start. The atmosphere is just the neatest little blacksmith cabin that has turned into a sushi restaurant. The sushi selection is phenomenal several different rolls to choose from. The staff was super friendly as soon as you hit the door and walked in. The sushi chefs were engaging and friendly to talk with. Hands down the best sushi in Jackson, Wyoming...MAKE RESERVATIONS!

Yelp
Excellent food. Top quality. They like to serve one item at a time for a long relaxing meal where everyone shares each item So if you want items all at once, please inform them. Small place, reservations suggested. But we did not wait long. Excellent fresh top quality food. Best I have had.

Yelp
This was frankly an overall awful experience. I made the reservation a few weeks in advance of a boys trip after a lot of research into who supposedly had the best sushi in town. The fish itself was actually pretty good- everything else was a disaster. For a party of 5, attempted to seat us in the front corner by the door- with one member directly in the lane of the door. We asked to be seated instead outside at an open table which they did. The service was poor and the waitress seemed to have a pissy attitude. It took forever to get any of our food despite ordering a batch of it so we could get it and feed 5 men at the same time. Despite this- we got each dish one at a time with the exception of the shishito peppers and edamame. Maybe she could've realized this when we immediately devoured each plate that came to the table but this behavior never changed. Ultimately we cancelled the rest of our order and then went and got tacos afterwards. One star for flavor- hard pass on recommending this to any of my friends or colleagues

Yelp
Visited on short notice and had one of the more amazing dinners I've ever had. Didn't think to make reservations, but they had room for us after about 20 minutes. I should add it was just two people. Hostess was incredibly friendly and patient as were the chefs. It's a very cozy spot, and the food is incredible. I live in Seattle and I've had some really wonderful sushi, but this was some of the best--and most creative--sushi that I've ever had. Is it cheap? No. You're eating sushi in Wyoming! But it is wonderful and I'd absolutely come here again when in Jackson.

Yelp
Sat at the bar and had a couple of rolls. Delicious. Enjoyed the conversations with others who also were at the counter. Waited only about 15 minutes for a seat.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
A solid spot, very limited in space. "Intimate" is an understatement. Treat yourself to whatever specials might be on offer.
google avatar

Yelp
A charming dining experience in downtown Jackson! Housed in a quaint and historic log cabin, the ambiance of this place is unbelievable. Reservations are a must due to limited seating and it's popularity among locals and travelers. We tried two specialty rolls, the Crouching Tiger and the Toro, both of which were fresh and packed with flavor. Very high quality sushi. Also a good selection of beer, wine, cocktails and sake for pairing. Hands-down my favorite dining experience in Jackson. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Spectacular happy hour! Arrive 10 minutes before they open and join the line for a coveted spot at the sushi counter. The sushi was wonderful--creative and delicious--and we're sushi-loving Seattleites who are spoiled on great seafood. Get the crispy rice little guys and thank me later. 5 STARS, King Sushi!

Yelp
Sushi in Jackson... I know right? Showed up on the early side and got a seat at the bar. Staff was beyond friendly and super accommodating. Their happy hour menus is amazing prices for such high quality. Everything was fresh and great flavor combos. Will be back for another meal!

Yelp
Delicious sushi & super cute! Located in a historical old cabin in the heart of downtown Jackson! Tons of gluten free options and almost anything can be made gluten free! Staff very helpful and friendly!!

Yelp
Knockout roll - everyone must try the Hidden Dragon roll here!! The slight char on the scallop created a savory, smoky, sweet fishy mouthful - I could go back and eat 2 more! Great oyster shooters and nigiri. Intimate ambiance. Hope they expand to add more tables!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing experience and a joy for my taste buds! A small but quaint place with some of the most incredible sushi! Of course I had the crouching tiger and also tried the tempura lobster and the Theo too! Appetizer was a special- Toro. The entire evening was excellent and I highly recommend this dining experience of you love sushi. The tempura fried cheese cake was incredible. Reserve your table today!

Yelp
I was too hungry to take photos but as usual, king sushi did not disappoint. The Jackson is my go to roll and is always delicious. If you can make it to happy hour, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Wish I had a picture of the food, but we were so hungry, we devoured it. Food was good. It's definitely pricey sushi, but it is exceptional. The ginger noodles were really good also.

Nicole A.

Yelp
The best sushi I have ever had. No hyperbole. Fresh fish, inventive recipes, no heavy sauces or fillers. Truly, the best sushi I've had anywhere.

Shannon B.

Yelp
Food, vibes, and service are always 5 stars!!! We had Claire as our server last time and she was a delight :)

Yelp
I have not stopped thinking about this place since my partner and I went on a family trip 2 years ago. My partner and I are roll fiends, and this has set the bar for how we view good rolls. This is, by far, the best sushi I've had in America, and nothing has yet to top this for us. We were lucky to have gotten in, as this place has very limited seating, and it's recommended to get a reservation a week out. We ate at the bar and ended up getting 5 rolls to share - the chef in front of us was amazing and our last 3 he created for us based off the fresh fish of the day, our flavor preferences, and what he felt inspired to make. The fish is surprisingly fresh and absolutely delicious for the part of America this restaurant resides in. Tourists and residences alike gather here, and we enjoyed listening to the sounds of happy friends and family sharing a great meal. Will definitely be returning here again as soon as we can. Check this place out!!!

Yelp
A lot has been said about this place already. The food was great. All the fish we ate was fresh. Very surprised to see 2 white guys working as chefs. With some help from a white girl. They were amazing. The food presentations were great and very unique. Very tasty. The service was very good. Our waitress was very pleasant and fast. The ambiance is cool also. Cabin style. Very small place, not a good spot for parties of 10 plus. I will definitely be coming back and I strongly recommend this sushi restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour/dinner and had a decent experience! We ordered a cocktail (St. Germain Spritz), a hot sake, multiple hand rolls, the sake king sashimi, hamachi roll, crispy rice, and a few others. Normally I like to confirm all items that I've ordered but unfortunately their menu is not on their website and I didn't take a photo of the menu so I'm guessing at this point. The staff was very nice but the place is kind of cramped up in a small venue. Make sure to make reservations because it does get slam packed with people (at least during the winter). Out of everything we ordered our favorite fish was the salmon - it was fantastic! I'd mostly recommend the sake king sashimi, the salmon avocado roll, & the hamachi roll. I'd also recommend coming in during happy hour which I believe is from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. All in all, great & fresh sushi for a decent price, in a beautiful area!
google avatar

Pammy F.

Yelp
The sushi was great. The people were nice, but the environment was so busy and loud. We didn't only have to have a reservation to get in and waited an hour but once we got in, we were sitting there forever before getting our food.
google avatar

Leinoa K.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Small and intimate and the sushi was phenomenal! They use fresh grated wasabi like they do in Japan. The food and staff were outstanding. Being from Hawaii and having amazing and fresh fish we were hesitant but this place did not disappoint. If we lived here, we'd be regulars. Don't skip on this place. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sushi and the friendliness of the staff. Was a great night and experience!
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
Food was decent, service was minimal. I get that this is probably the closest to fresh sushi so it's great for the area but we have definitively has better. It's also overpriced.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
King Sushi was absolutely amazing! Everywhere that I travel I try and find the best sushi place in town. King went above and beyond that and is one of the best sushi restaurants I have had around the nation. Make sure and have a reservation or get there very early if you want a table. This place is small so it's popularity makes it difficult to just walk in for a table. Make the reservation and thank me later. My favorite bite of the night (and top 3 ever) was the Uni Spoon which is accompanied by a quail egg, chopped scallop, osetra caviar, negi all sitting in a sweet soy. It was incredible. I cannot wait to get back to Jackson to enjoy the food here again!

Yelp
Nice and delicious, can't imagine they are made by non-Asian people. I recommend the smaller one more
google avatar

Casey C.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best sushi I've ever had (beating out the best places in Nashville, Vegas, Atlanta, etc..) Crouching tiger roll and Tora roll were both phenomenal. Tiny place with a funky vibe. Definitely get reservations.

Jil Y.

Yelp
King Sushi is a gem! Great little cabin right in town, quaint and intimate inside. Fish was super fresh. Definitely try out whatever is on the specials menu. As good as some of the big name sushi places throughout the US.

Rhiannon F.

Yelp
amazing.amazing.amazing. Can't believe the best sushi I've ever had was in Wyoming. 10/10. Our server lex gave great recs and was so nice :)

James V.

Yelp
Delicious sushi! Really enjoyed this place. Unique combinations in every roll and nigri we tried. Service was quite attentive. It's a small place, yet we got in with only a 30 minute wait on a Saturday evening.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Possibly the best sushi I've ever had. Amazing rolls with flavors that marry perfectly. Service was great too and food came out fast, which is impressive considering how busy they were!

Mike B.

Yelp
They do not honor reservations. The Hostess/ owner has a vile mouth and feels it's a gift to let you eat there The owner/ hostess told us she would not give us a table we reserved on "resy" weeks in advance then when we got upset she physically thru us out for having a bad attitude! It was insane, I guess we should have been pleased she wouldn't honor our reservation STAY FAR AWAY - they treat you better at Wendy's
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
Super thrilled to have come upon this sushi hotspot during my travels. Thank you from VT!

Sadie S.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on a Friday night from out of town. We found this spot on yelp and decided to give it a try. Can I just say. Best decision ever. The service was so amazing. It was a busy night, they sat us right away withought any reservation.... we decided to try one of the specials. Ono nigiri. One of the best dishes I have EVER HAD. The fish was so fresh, so many amazing flavors. The 2 rolls we had were just so yummy. The Jackson roll and the crouching tiger. The apps were awesome. Shishito peppers had such a great sauce. The resteraunt has such a great atmosphere. I would recommend to anyone visiting Jackson. The best sushi I have ever had. And the service and staff made it 1000x better always checking in, making sure we were okay.. Worth a try. 10/10.

Patricia M.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi I've ever had in america! There are no exceptions within the United States that I've experienced so far. That's including most of the northern hemisphere, well, at least the nine countries that I have visited thus far! If you are ever going to stop for sushi in Jackson Wyoming know that this is ABSOLUTELY The place you have to go for the experience!!!! ISure you'll spend a little bit of money but you can know in your heart that it is 1,000% worth every single penny plus tip and then some !!

Yelp
Highly recommended by numerous friends, and with good reason. There was a wait this Sunday evening, but I think that's a nightly occurrence. Make reservations on RESY. Small indoor dining with 5 tables and counter dining to seat about 10. Outdoor deck dining, with heat lamps, seats approximately 25-30. We were disappointed they ran out of salmon and dumplings. Additionally, the rolls are on the small size. My favorite was the Roo - tempura shrimp, spicy tuna, avocado, tuna, tabiko, negi, sweet chili aioli. The King Carpaccio was very good and beautifully presented with a few edible flowers. This dish included a daily selection of sashimi, uzura, chive, ponzu, roe and olive oil. It's easy to see why the locals love this spot!
google avatar

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal sushi in the heart of Jackson Hole!!!! My husband and I are total sushi snobs and only eat at Uchi in Austin... of course the hankering for sushi hit us HARD while vacationing and we decided to gamble. King Sushi was wonderful, fresh, and beautifully presented. Our waiter Benji (?) was attentive and helpful and we were seriously blown away with 90% of the menu. The cuts of nigiri rivaled our expensive spots back home and the fish is obviously flown in daily. The miso soup could use some tweaking. The pork gyoza was delicious. The crouching tiger roll was one of my favorite rolls that I have EVER had and the presentation was knockout. The hama hama was just okay. We loved this place so much that we tried to go back the next day before realizing they were closed on Mondays. Can't wait to come back here next time we are in Jackson.
google avatar

Lo P.

Yelp
King Sushi is our favorite restaurant in Jackson hands down. Our minds were blown that you can find amazing fresh fish here prepared in the most creative yet simple rolls, sashimi's and pieces. My all time favorites are the Hamu Hamu, the Jackson, Crouching Tiger, and the specials. This is not normal sushi covered in crunch and mayo it's simple and very creatively put together. The restaurant is very small so you'll need a reservation! The hostess that's been there the last two years is lovely and super helpful.
google avatar

Rosanna F.

Yelp
I stopped in with my gf for a Saturday evening dinner, excited to try the fresh fish varieties at the top rated sushi spot in Jackson. We were lucky to snag the last open table and quickly dove into the menu. The ambience was super unique- where else can you eat sushi in a log cabin?! The style of sushi at King Sushi relies heavily on sauces, which they do an excellent job of. The sashimi plates are prepared tataki style, which I enjoy. We ordered the salmon sashimi and one of their evening specials. Both had great flavors of scallions, ponzu and the fish itself. We also ordered their special roll of the evening, which was a tasty combination of lobster, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna. The salmon roll was also quite good and tasted very fresh. The plates which were a bit lackluster were the ngiri (tuna and salmon), interestingly enough, where the taste of the fish just wasn't very pronounced. It seemed that the cuts of fish just weren't as flavorful as they should have been. Another downside was that service was very slow. We arrived around 8pm and didn't leave until closer to 10pm, so it was a later evening than planned. I'm glad I went and tried King Sushi. If you enjoy American style rolls and tataki, you will LOVE King Sushi. If you are expecting traditional sashimi (plain cuts) and ngiri, I would advise you to instead order the rolls and tataki which King Sushi excels in. I am giving them 4 stars because dinner was great but lacked versatility to excel in all menu offerings.

Yelp
A local recommend we check this place out. Definitely make reservations well ahead of time. The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had amazing sushi - the flavors don't compare to anything else we've had! Highly recommend!
google avatar

C B.

Yelp
Really liked that this was not the typical sushi bar. The food was great. Got the Crispy Tuna Rice, Plus two special roles: Crouching tiger, and the other one I think was spicy tuna. Loved the presentation.
google avatar

Jackson H.

Yelp
Best sushi in Jackson Hole. The Theo Roll is something special. Tough to get a reservation but well worth it!
google avatar

Alison G.

Yelp
Crispy rice app was good. Poke Don was disappointing- just a bowl of rice, tuna and avocado with none of the sauce that makes the dish so good. Didn't even come close to the poke in Hawaii. Naturrol was ok - I wouldn't order it again. Sake King was good. Hidden Dragon was my favorite and my husband's was the Roo. Love that you can order in advance and it's ready when you show up for outdoor seating. Hate all the packaging waste. Including the big paper bag that they say they can't reuse. Covid is just an excuse to waste and f up our environment even more.

Anna S.

Yelp
AMAZE BALLS! So freaking good! Tiny tiny little building so realllly hard to get a table as a walk in. Highly recommend making a reservation! Shishito peppers and the shrimp are great starters and all the rolls are immaculate. Can't go wrong with any of them. Super fresh. Pricey tho

Gene B.

Yelp
Wow what amazing sushi. A San Francisco native and this place is some of the best fiah I've ever had. Reservations almost always required as it's a small cozy cabin. Enjoy!
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
Came here for our Grand Teton/Yellowstone vacation. We were craving something other than the same old American food. We looked up sushi/ramen and this place popped up with some promising reviews. I really wanted a bowl of hot ramen, but there was only one on the menu -- the tonkotsu ramen. It was rather salty and I didn't care for the broth too much. The ramen was like $24 and each sushi roll was about the same price. It is so pricey. I've had real authentic Japanese sushi many times and this isn't what I was expecting.
google avatar

Matt I.

Yelp
We were a group of 10. Some of us got all of our food, while the rest didn't get even one item. The waitress was rude and annoyed we asked about it. Her response was "sushi takes a while to make" - very patronizing. The food was average.
google avatar

Francesca C.

Yelp
Sadly, not a very good experience here. We were told by many locals that this was the place to be, that the sushi was great. We even went as far as making a reservation a day in advance and accepting a time of 445 as that was the only time available to even get in the door. We ordered my daughter shrimp sushi. The first roll had two pieces of hair in it so they made it again for us then the second roll had another hair... we ordered edamame, a side of white rice, one roll, crispy rice and mussels, a beer and a large suki which came out to be 150 bucks! This places was definitely over priced and we were hungry an hour later. We will definitely not be returning. On a side note- the waiter did comp the sushi roll with the hair in it, which was nice.
google avatar

Clem G.

Yelp
We have come here plenty of times, honestly its the only sushi in Jackson so there really isn't another option. The sushi is pretty good but expensive. Its not going to change your life or anything. You're going to have better sushi at some awesome place where you're from. But for Jackson its ok! The problem is the service. The hostess is just hostile so often. I get it, she's burned out in Jackson but you need to at least TRY to be nice. Especially with familiar faces. Its a small place and so it gets busy fast. But be sympathetic to people who want to eat there. Not an ashole and act like they are inconveniencing you. Note- the servers are usually pretty nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Found! Very good sushi for a small town. They have put together an extensive menu of creative roll offerings. Sit at the sushi bar or outside if the weather is permitting. For more great reviews visit TheLoupe!

Yelp
Playfully delightful sushi in a comforting and quaint atmosphere. Multiple layers of joy in each bite awaits with each roll.

Yelp
It's our first time here in Jackson, WY and our second night stay. Decided to give this a try base on the Yelp Avg Rating and reviews. It was raining a bit in the late afternoon and temperature is still cold st around 45F. With a weather like this, its a good time to get some hot bowl of noodle soup. The place itself was nice though a bit small and cramp. Overall place looks clean and a number of staffs going around. Was not seated immediately as the place is really pack at this time which was more ot less 5:30pm. We were asked to sit at the sushi bar though there was only one seat. We waited while other customers are done. As we were seated, another table got freed up and we kindly asked to be transfered where at this time we just ordered and no food had been serve yet. We were told that the table has already been reserved. We bought the comment but later saw that they let a new walkin customer sit there and there was no reservation. How did we know? The staff didnt ask them if they have reservation nor ask for their name which most establishments does. Anyway, we ordered marlin sashimi.. Taste less even with ponzu sauce. This is $12 happy hour price. We also ordered pork ramen and beef udon which is a wagyu beef noodle soup kind of thing. Pork ramen looks great and taste was ok. My wife's beef udon noodle soup got very nice slices of wagyu beef but what the heck when we started to eat them. Its like chewing a big gum ball. Very chewy l, not tender at all. So we have requested for fork and knife to cut the beef into smaller bite size pieces. Didnt do any trick, its now just like eating a smaller but still hard and chewy gum ball.. Or should i say wagyu beef as claimed. Just painful to even type this review as our expectations were not met and the dinner just went down hill from an experience standpoint. Giving this place 2 stars only. Place- good, service- so so but have bad experince on not allowing us to move tables and not to mention lying to us; overall food over price is on the downside.
