While I was doing research about Okinawa prior to coming here, I was surprised that a dish called "Taco Rice" was considered Okinawan cuisine. Apparent also one of the places to lay claim is in Kin at King Taco. Apparently this is a must on the Okinawan bucket list so I gave it a shot.
King Taco is a small shop with an upstairs and small outdoor eating area. I noticed it's also one of the few places open on a Sunday afternoon at 4pm. The line was out the door which was a bit deceiving since the interior first floor is so small, but it was about 70/30 Okinawans to Americans.
It's a simple menu with a few options that you can get multiple different ways (ex. Taco rice, taco rice w/ cheese etc). I chose the taco rice w/ cheese and lettuce and got a number. It was ready in about five minutes. I grabbed a seat outside and dug in.
It tastes pretty much how you would expect. White rice, taco meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and I threw some salsa on. It wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination but not the pinnacle of dining either. It did come in a huge portion though for only 600 yen.
If you're in Kin and have no other options (just about every place is a Taco Rice place) then it's fine.
