The Franks Plan New Location for Franks Umberto Pizza Restaurant | Eater NY

"I'm told the Franks' new collaboration with Long Island legend Umberto Corteo, called Franks Umberto, will occupy a larger-than-originally-planned space and aims to bring Corteo's grandma and Sicilian pizza expertise to Brooklyn; Corteo—credited with creating the first-ever grandma pie and in the pizza business since 1965—has never had a restaurant within the five boroughs. Frank Castronovo is keeping details under wraps but says it could open as early as August, parts of the concept may be changing, and the project will no longer be in the former Cafe Pedlar space." - Serena Dai

The food and the service was excellent. From the baked clams and the fried calamari to the sides of linguine and olive oil and garlic were excellent. The main course was broiled veal chop on the bone and also the pounded veal with bruschetta. Both were cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the hottest cup of cappuccino and espresso you could ever ask for. Oh I forgot to mention the focaccia and the olive oil was fresh. All the restaurants give you two pieces of bread and that's it. Not here.

I had high hopes for King Umberto’s after hearing so many good things, but my experience didn’t live up to the hype. The pasta I ordered had poor presentation—just sauce thrown on top—and it lacked flavor, seasoning, and salt. The calamari was soggy and unappetizing, and I tried one other dish (not sure what it was called), but that didn’t hit the mark either. Service was also slow—I had a hard time getting a server’s attention, which might’ve been due to the holiday rush. That said, the restaurant itself is clean and has a nice atmosphere. It just needs improvement when it comes to food quality and consistency. Personally, I prefer Umberto’s in New Hyde Park.

Just had the five-course tasting menu at Serrata, by King Umberto’s, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The food was a work of art, bursting with amazing flavors and thoughtful presentation. I enjoy picking the wine; however, went for the wine pairings instead. They were spot-on and complimented each course perfectly. The ambiance is stunning, warm, and welcoming. The vibe from the open kitchen design was amazing and the expansive glass enclosed wine room, just jaw dropping. The staff worked hard to elevate our fine dining experience without being overbearing, just attentive and genuine. The whole experience: ten out of ten. Highly recommend!!

Google
excellent pizza. Ordered a grandma pie, fried calamari and fried capellini. I asked if a pizza i saw being closed up in box was a margherita because i was curious, and everyone makes it differently. They said it was, and they gave me a slice on the house to try! What a friendly place. note: I couldn't even wait before eating to take a pic, so you see a half eaten slice of margherita! That's plenty of fresh mozzarella and basil on there.

Came here for a second time and it was just as excellent as the first. We came with a party of 9 . The service was great and attentive. The atmosphere was really nice. Although it does get busy ( I guess thats a good thing) the service never slacked. The food came on time and it was tasty. Good portions. Id recommend this place for a good special event / occasion with a group of people

Updated 6/05 Absolutely stellar experience with King Umbertos — they truly came through for us in a big way! We were trying to get pies delivered for our Garden City Park Fire Department meeting, but the website said we were just outside the delivery zone. I figured it was a long shot, but the team made it happen! Not only did they get the food to us, but every single pie was cooked to perfection. The crust, the toppings, the sauce — everything hit the mark. You could tell it was made with care, and they even threw in a few extras that did not go unnoticed. On behalf of the entire department, a huge thank you for the amazing service and top-tier pizza. You’ve earned a permanent spot as our go-to. Support local — especially when local supports you! 🍕🔥🚒 ------------------ Some of the best pizzas, if not the best pizza! The staff are extremely friendly, and fresh pizzas are constantly being pushed out.

Update: It's still amazing, and the service is impeccable as ever! It had been quite a few years since we had been here. We had not had the opportunity to see the patio room until this evening. They have done an amazing job. It's beautiful to look at, plenty of seating, and a wonderful outdoor area with fire pits. The service and food as always were impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. If you haven't tried King Umberto's out yet, you really should!

Google
I saw an instagram post about this restaurant and thought I’d give it a try. What a beautiful place! Service 5 stars Food 5 stars Atmosphere 5 stars….. just fabulous! We started with baked clams - fried calamari & the fig & burratta special. I had the linguine Luciano IF I could give it 10 stars I would. For dessert we had the Affogato ❤️❤️❤️ this restaurant is a 10!

Yelp
On my social media feed I see a clip from King Umberto's. Giovanni introduces his dad and says what are we makin' today? Then his dad explains how he's going to make his special Pork & Sweet Vinegar Pepper sandwich. Man, I wish my dad was around so I can try his specialty sandwich. It just got to me. Elmont isn't too far away so I head out to King Umberto's. The name is throwing me and I hope I'm going to the right place. Is this like a Famous Rays pizza thing? I called ahead and placed an order for the specialty sandwich. Once inside, it's pizza in the front and all business in the back. I'm watching their videos, King Umberto's is known for their Veal Chop dish?? This place is calling me to come back and try everything. I walk inside the restaurant and give my order number. I also see in the corner of my eye homemade doughnuts?! Another customer comes in to pick up his order, he must have ordered Twenty Five sandwiches! I'm getting a little nervous, are they going to run out? The customer with the large order asked for a few doughnuts as well. Giovanni tells him, they're all sold but to get them next time, call ahead. Wow! The guys behind the counter are asking for my order and start prepping sandwiches. Now Giovanni (who I never met) said look, here's an extra sandwich, just in case one of them didn't come out perfect. I'm not understanding what's happening but I'm sure my dad in heaven gave someone a fist bump for me. I sit down and take a bite. If you know anything about New York Italian bread, this hero bread is perfectly cooked. It's split and stuffed with sliced pork and peppers. My favorite dish that I had at Raos was chicken scarpellio. That little touch of vinegar hits you. This is a perfect combination of peppers and pork, just a well crafted sandwich. First time here, I can see why you have the king in the title. I want to come back for everything!

Yelp
The food is decently good, though very recognizably Long Island catering hall fare in both presentation and flavor. LI catering halls are pretty extra, so this is something of a compliment. The food is good value for what you get, and the family style approach makes it perfect for groups and small parties. FOH service quality varies, with the hosts/hostesses' friendliness and helpfulness very dependent on how busy they are. We arrived for our reservation and were told to wait while they set up our table. Ten minutes later, it turns out part of our group had been seated minutes before we had arrived. The host's response to us letting him know that our party was already seated before we arrived? A snippy, "well I didn't know!" It's... it's your job though? Anyway, waitstaff was attentive and phenomenal, and the food was plentiful and satisfying. Their famous fried capellini were okay, but actually I think the calamari was much better, as far as starters go.

Yelp
Excellent Italian food in a beautiful restaurant. The place to eat is called The Patio and it's on a side entrance. Attentive service with a relaxed feel all around. I never felt rushed, which is unusual nowadays. The food was elegantly presented. The desserts were out of this world. It's a very popular place. Make reservations in advance! They also do catering!

Yelp
I've been to King Umberto's many times over the years with a most recent stop in on New Years Day to find the place busy as usual. With the King you get your choice of two spaces - the original pizzeria has a more old school vibe with slightly cheaper prices. Honestly I haven't been inside in a while opting for their patio space, which is huge and since we were here for the holidays felt like we were dining in a Christmas village. You have a large hungry group to feed? Make a reservation here because you can dine with many others and will be well taken care of by a small army of servers. It is spacious and you will not feel cramped not matter how full the place may be. We started with a fresh delicious burrata salad that had caramelized fig, prosciutto, arugula, avocado, star fruit - it was quite the scene and a delicious one at that. Before our meal we received the usual salad that comes with the meals we ordered and it has marinated onions(?) for the dressing - that was tasty as well. We hit a bit of a snag with our mains. The Veal Pizzaiola Alla Cairo came out fine and thought it was very good, but the eggplant parmigiana wasn't fully cooked - there were slices of cheese that were not melted and cold inside. We asked the waitress to bring it back to have it heated - when she returned she said the kitchen was making a brand new one. It was a good save, but made for awkward meal waiting for 10 min for the new one. These things happen sometimes, but that make it right - at the end of the meal the waitress even told us the dessert was on her for the mishap. Classy. The pistachio profiterole - ice cream here is a similar flavor to the one they serve at Carvel. It is also smothered in Hershey's chocolate syrup. It did the job, but wasn't anything special. Despite the issue we enjoyed the meal here - I chalked it up to be New Years day and just appreciated the hard working staff for showing up on the holiday. I always enjoy my experiences here and I believe you will as well.

Yelp
We picked up a grandmas pie, a plain cheese pie and a chicken roll. I would definitely go back for the food. Everything was delicious and what a great price.

Yelp
2/25/25. Decided to sit in the dining area behind the front pizza section. Started with the fried capellini ($15.50 for 4) and potato croquettes. Cosmos were perfect. For mains, we shared the veal rollatini ($27.75) and seafood platter ($36.75). Ample amount of seafood with minimal pasta. Topped off the night with tiramisu and pistachio ice cream. Everything was really delicious.

Yelp
Back in NY after Tampa, we found this fantastic restaurant! Amazing Italian restaurant! We came here for lunch because it's in the same area as our vet. If not because of my cats, we wouldn't be here, although we heard about it from Hubby's friend, who also owns a lot of cats. We returned for lunch again the second time because we found an excuse to bring another cat to the vet. I need to adopt and rescue more cats to keep coming back. Eric was our waiter twice and was very attentive and professional. He's the man! Everything was so good here. We had seafood salad, pizza with broccoli rabe, and seafood pasta, which was enough for two. We also tried their baked clams, which were good. We had chicken scarpariello, and this was amazing! Another dish we tried was spaghetti in clam sauce. Everything was the best here, especially the seafood pasta. The restaurant has a pizza section and a regular restaurant on the other side. It's a nice restaurant with comfortable seats. We had a great experience dining here. We loved the food, and the service was excellent! We'll come back!

Yelp
The food is great. The bruschetta is well balanced Caesar is lighter than you'd think, anything with melted cheese and sauce is a must. The servers are nice and usually quick. We waited longer for our entrees than we would've liked but when they came back around to us they were great. Decor is amazing. Feels like you popped in on someone else's wedding. Parking in the area isn't great and this place can get packed so go earlier.

Yelp
You will never be disappointed in a slice from King Umberto's. Always tastes fresh, flavorful and like a true New York slice. The slice with the vodka sauce and the pesto called the MVP will have you fall out of your chair. I come back again and again because it's just that good. And the staff is always pleasant and takes your order quickly.

Yelp
After reading mostly positive reviews on KU, I really had higher expectations than were met by actually having dinner here, for first time, on Friday night. I ordered chicken picata and my wife ordered clams posillipo. The sauce on both dishses was good, although neither dish could be considered a generous portion. But, on my dish, thesuper-thin cut chicken was very overcooked. So much so that it was dry and basically ruined the dish. My wife liked her clams and sauce but again, portion size was small. Both dishes were accompanied by the smallest portion of penne I've ever had in an Italian restaurant! Pretty surprising since pasta is about the cheapest thing that can be offered. The waitress must've heard me complain about my dish and asked, "Did you like it?" I replied, honestly, No, the chicken was very dry and overcooked, despite the picata sauce being good. She said, "oh, ok" and walked away. Didn't say I'll tell the cook, apologize, call a manager or offer anything to try and compensate that I didn't like the dish! Maybe I should've complained right away but I was hungry, it was later and I didn't want to make a big deal of it. The venue is soon opening a more upscale version of their dining room shortly...I hope they do better there. Needless to say, I wasn't impressed and as of now, doubt I'll return any time soon.

Yelp
I went here this weekend with my family. We loved the Christmas decorations!! Our server Marlo was the best and made us feel like family! He was friendly and attentive and anticipated our every need. We started with the capellini cakes because I have been seeing and drooling over them on Instagram for months. They were crispy and tasty! My nephew and I both got the vodka sauce with rigatoni and chicken. It took a little long to get our pastas but it was well worth the wait!! Their vodka sauce is hands down favorite one I've ever had! So light but so much flavor and coats the pasta perfectly. I finished with a cappuccino. Definitely will be back and definitely will be getting the vodka sauce and definitely will be requesting Marlo!

Yelp
Chicken & shrimp special was okay. I had them do the shrimp and sausage separately and that sauce seemed to have had better flavor. The fettuccini Alfredo was bland. My little girl loved her Shirley temple, she said tastes like the exclusive restaurant we went to in NYC. The service was great and ambiance cozy old school reminds me of a nicer diner

Yelp
Thank you, King Umberto, for giving my dad a 60th birthday to remember. Throughout our party's dinner, we felt very taken care of. The owner personally made me two Peach Navel drinks when I asked him if he could recommend a sweet drink. The food was amazing. I recommend fried calamari, and fried cappellini (one of their specialities) for appetizers. For my entree I ordered the short rib with gnocchi which was fabulous. They even took a picture of our party and framed it for my dad's birthday. Thank you, King Umberto!

Yelp
Overall, everything about this restaurant is excellent. The service, the food and the ambiance all amazing

Yelp
Super hospitable ownership! Service was above and beyond expectations. Pizza was delicious. Will be going back!

Yelp
First time, place seemed to be undergoing some renovations. It was also Mother's Day I believe so full house. But, this place was buzzing along. Wait times were not too bad. Good service at the bar. Ince we got our table our waiter had us covered. Food was good. Looking forward to going again.

Yelp
Food is always great and fresh!! My husband ordered a pie and we were given an extra two pieces of pizza on the house.. Service is always Great.. Must mention we travel from Brooklyn

Yelp
Outstanding old school service. Got to try different slices, sat in the restaurant part, comfort Italian American food. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Came here for a farewell lunch with a colleague. We made a reservation although it was quite empty for the weekday lunch hour so I think we would have been fine without d'où by so. Lunch came out to about 50 per person so if you're looking for an inexpensive meal sorry to say this is not it. But the decor is beautiful with flowers and foliage surrounding the restaurant. There is a cute outside seating and for cooler nights it has a fire pit. The warm bread that comes before you food is very tasty especially the onion bread ! I had the strawberry walnut salad with chicken. This salad was fresh and tasty it's a good portion and I brought half of it home. For dessert I had the pistachio cream puff icecream. It was very light and refreshing and a different vibe to desert and it didn't disappoint.

Yelp
This was one of the very few restaurants that was open 10 at night, I got there about 10:30 and they close at 11 so they were cleaning the dining area and I was the only one in that area, but the takeout side of the restaurant had a quite a few people ordering pizza. I've never had cappellini before and the reviews and Instagram post about. It were really great and it lived up to the hype! They were very light, kind of airy really crispy and just magically delicious! I tried it with and without the marinara sauce, and it was even more fabulous with the sauce. I got the rigatoni Bolognese as recommended by my waiter, and it was phenomenal! This was the best Bolognese that I have ever had! I really wanted to eat it all, but I was pretty full and a little sleepy and I had a early start to work the next morning. I took my leftovers on a plane and when I heated it up at home it was even better than what it was at the restaurant. The chef truly knows what he's doing!

Jorge R.

Yelp
Seriously my girlfriend almost broke a tooth on the skimpy grammar pie, very thin crust, like biting into a rock, but the other food is good. Now we don't like the drippy dressing that they called cheese.
google avatar

Nissa M.

Yelp
The restaurant is stunning. Absolutely gorgeous and beautifully decorated. This is very much a catering hall more than a restaurant. Definitely recommend for large groups or if you plan on hosting a party like baby shower, bridal shower, birthday, even maybe a casual wedding. This place could be perfect for you. Reason for the mid tier rating is because the food was just OK. Not bad but also not great either. It's very much the quality you'd expect from like a catering hall. I enjoyed it but it just didn't blow me away that way I expected it to. Drinks were strong and yummy.

Yelp
This is the first time I have gone to King Umberto's in Elmont and wow I was pleasantly surprised. The service is outstanding and the food was amazing. We celebrated two birthdays and we could not have been happier. I will definitely return and will let all my friends know. PS: The Tartufo Limoncello was to die for.

Yelp
Gave this place a second go yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Nice menu options good size portions this time I felt and the service was very good. Different experience than the first time and the place is really pretty inside the patio.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! A+++! Rosario knows what it takes to run a first class establishment. We go at least once a week. It never disappoints. Valet parking is a big plus. Ambiance is perfect. We go here for all special occasions!

Yelp
As always amazing pizza and when in the area we have to stop in . Park across the street if you don't want pizza go to the heck there a full restaurant if you fancy a cocktail or mocktail go the Patio. This places had so much to offer and the accommodating staff make it even more fabulous!

Yelp
So I decided to treat myself and get dinner here to go. The place was packed! I knew I wanted some garlic knots, they looked amazing on a recent IG post. I wanted to have salad, so I started with the house salad. Then I chose Veal Sorrentino. Perfectly cooked with plenty of sauce and mushrooms. The food was packaged with care and there were no leaks. I definitely would make the special trip to order food again.

Yelp
THE PATIO - The atmosphere is fun in a kitschy way, pretty comfortable but also very much feels like a banquet hall more than a restaurant the way it's set up. But it's fairly attractive and comfortable. As to the food and drinks, I think that $15 is too expensive for a glass of sangria. Tasty but nothing special, and half filled with ice. The bread is fair - a little doughy-tasting, could be better. We ordered chicken parm and chicken campagnolo. As to the parm, the sauce was tasty but the chicken was very thin and there definitely wasn't enough cheese. Should be served with a nice topping of bubbly mozzarella, but there was only one slice of cheese. The pasta side was average, nothing at all special. The campagnolo was tasty although there were very few pieces of spicy sausage. I mean there were about 6 chunk-sized pieces of chicken breast, a few slices of spicy sausage, maybe 5 potato cubes - the plate looked a bit bare for the $30 price. Tasty, but skimpy. The potato croquettes were tasty as a side. So overall, I think the meal was average at best. The chicken parm needed to be kicked up and it just didn't feel like a $100 meal. The service, by the way, was efficient and friendly.

Daniella C.

Yelp
Stopped by with my boyfriend for a quick bite and so glad we did! The service was great, staff were super friendly and helpful, and the food was as good as it looks! Definitely recommend the fried capellini
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, lives up to the hype! Moved to Long Island in 2020 and have been eating slices all over the South Shore and points east. They've all been mediocre until today. The most perfect Sicilian slice I've ever had. Told the guy I was excited because it was my first time! He threw in a free grandma slice. Great staff. Can't wait to try the dining room. Someone told me the fried cappallini was amazing too.
google avatar

Ronit M.

Yelp
Pizzeria with a casual intimate dining room in the back. Ambiance was simple and cozy. Waiter service was a little bit slow to check on us after we received our meals. I ordered the strawberry salad but it wasn't that great. The spinach was half limp and going bad. The candied walnuts would have been better as simply walnuts. The strawberries were on the verge of The zucchini fries were bomb. I would come back for those. My boo got another salad and was pleased with it. They have a lot of fresh pizzas at the front and other dining areas at the back. Will be back again. Happy eats!

Yelp
Easily the best Italian on Long Island and for good reason. The food is beyond fresh and always so flavorful. What's even better is that the place is consistent in terms of quality. Whether you're doing a pasta, meat dish or special, I've never once had a bite of something and thought "this is just ok." The service is impeccable. Our server, Danny, was both knowledgeable, attentive and funny. He made my groups experience super pleasurable. The restaurant has the main pizzeria, the patio and the main dining room. Depending on your group size and vibe you're going for, they can accommodate you. Although the patio does get loud, it's still filled with such camaraderie. If you have some older people in your group, I would suggest the main dining room. 10/10, every single time. I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. WORTH the visit.

Yelp
Amazing pizza - we called in an order of assorted slices to share. Service was friendly and order was ready on time. Their pizza reminded me how much I miss NY pizza. Amazing flavors, fresh, and delicious. I'll definitely grab pizza from here again!

Yelp
I unfortunately did not take photos of all of the food but let me tell you this was some of the best Italian food ever. Went there for a graduation party and the appetizer were all amazing, the fried capellini balls were incredible and my main which was penne Alfredo had a great flavor and texture. The staff was extremely accommodating to our large and I'm sure overwhelming party of people. The indoor patio was really decorated nicely and the tables are not on top of each other which I hate. I like to have space to eat! Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Great atmosphere , amazing food and awesome staff! Out go to place for family and friend gatherings large and small.

Yelp
I've eaten here so many times, whether take-out from the pizzeria or sitting down in the dining part of the restaurant. You cannot go wrong with anything here, so I'm just going to tell you some of my favorites. For Pizza: Regular, Grandma, or Sicilian. Also, around Easter they have a slice with fried calamari and Calabrian chilis. It's outrageous. Restaurant: Anything. Seriously, just get anything. It's very solid all around Italian-American food. I suggest getting the fried capellini as an appetizer. Service on either side of the restaurant is terrific they're always polite and professional. There have been several times they offered my husband a free slice of pizza while he waited to pick up the order. Ambiance: it's a classic Italian American restaurant. It's a bit of a throw back inside, with how the bar is set-up and then the dining areas and the decor, but that's also what I love about it. Please don't ever change. These types of restaurants are becoming harder and harder to find. Overall: Terrific. Its reputation is very well earned.

Tamara P.

Yelp
Ordered fettuccine in vodka sauce to go, 40 min wait, another customer looks over to me and says don't worry it almost ready, it's worth the wait, I said hopefully, he says no they're good, got the food, waste of $20, bland, sauce thin and runny and very light in color for vodka sauce, never again!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place. Absolutely one of the best classic Italian restaurants! Everything from the service, food and ambiance was top notch ! They offer valet service and have separate dining areas if you want to elevate your dining experience. We opted for the pizzeria side because we were with kids. Their restrooms were so nice with beautiful wallpaper and super clean! Came here with my family of 4. We had the seafood salad (needed a little salt) but the calamari was so soft and fresh. We also had the linguini with white clam sauce - wow! The sauce was delicious and made a great dip for the complimentary garlic bread. Baked clams are a must. We closed out our dinner with an espresso martini and a delicious cannoli (we got it plain without the pistachio) ... we haven't stopped raving about our experience , truly. Cannot wait to return!!!!

Els B.

Yelp
I had their minestrone soup which was really good! Their cheese pizza is also really good! I would definitely eat their food again.

Yelp
We reserved a table for a pretty big party. We were seated in the patio building, which was some huge empty garage-like space that was turned into outdoor seating area during COVID. Our server had us order appetizers family-style, basically served us so each person in the group could try a portion of each appetizer. While I didn't partake in the drinks, everyone else at the table seemed to be happy with their drink and cocktail choices. The absolute standout of the night was the fried capellini, which I was really skeptical of as I don't enjoy fried Mac n cheese balls or capellini/angel hair as a pasta. The inside was so creamy yet balanced well with the crunchy thin coating on the outside. There's a reason it's on every single table here. The free table bread, bruschetta, and the baked clams were all wonderful, but the fried capellini definitely stole the show. For my entree, I had the linguine with rosa sauce. The seafood was cooked perfectly, though the clams were a little grainy. I was absolutely stuffed by the time this came around, but I managed to get a few bites in before packing the rest to go. The service was so warm here, though it was a little slow because it was a very busy night. I thought for the quality of food and the ambiance, the price was very good (plus because of the slower service, we really didn't feel rushed at all and had plenty of time to chat and take pictures in their beautiful dining space!) I love that the patio can accommodate a big group and the ambiance makes it feel so upscale. Will definitely be returning with a crowd for the fried capellini!

Yelp
You often hear King Umberto's in the conversation for top tier pizza, and after trying it, I don't understand why you don't ALWAYS hear its name in the discussion. Having been to most of the "must-go" highest Portnoy score places in NYC, King Umberto is a solid contender for my number one pizza spot in New York. I had the Elmont and the grandma slices - and everything was phenomenal. The crust had such flavor and texture, the sauce was spot on, the cheese was amazing. Honestly, I could eat this pizza every day and never get sick of it. What a gem. Worth the struggle to find a parking spot.

Erick J.

Yelp
Best service, best pizza, nice traditional restaurant and there also another restaurant adjacent that just creates pizza pies. I was visiting family in NY and this was a spot they recommended. I am from California and OMG this was hands down some of the best eats I have had in NY for Italian food.

Yelp
Pleasant people, really good food, although I'm not an expert being from the left coast. It was recommended to me by some locals, and I feel that it didn't let them down. Garlic knots, very good, super garlicky. Spinach roll, tasty, good dough, crunchy in the right way. Slice of Margarita really good, again good crust. Bonus slice of 'Grandma' also good. Worth the Uber from Uniondale.

Yelp
Amazing place! Best Italian food in NYC. Great atmosphere:) Whether it's a birthday party or pizza night, this is the place to stop at. Once a week at minimum!

Yelp
Let me first be honest and say that my family has gone there for yrs, but over the last 5 yrs,, it hasn't been good, I guess I'm a loyal guy hoping for the best. Similar to one of the previous reviewers, the hostess was very cold, had no personality.. We had 830 reservations on Christmas Eve ,, the dining room was half empty, then we were treated coldly when asking for a table not a booth.. Like I needed a pardon from the freakin pope! The entire back row of tables were empty, maybe 30-35 seats? They told us we could sit there with a 45 min timer, cause people were "coming in" What?? (btw, when we left? Same tables were empty) Then comes the waiter, I guess not a good grasp of English,, sends us 2 side salads instead of the cold antipasto we ordered.. The nasty vibe hostess said she'll check half way thru the meal,,,she never came back over to us.. The seafood platter that used to feed 2 was tiny... I asked for "extra calamari" but I guess the waiter heard NO calamari, so there was very little... The sauce was so thin and had no flavor... I guess every restaurant has its day, and to me? There day has passed... I don't care that the owner is expanding down the block, in past years he would have came over and been attentive to issues... He should start with the beautiful young hostess with the ugly personality! All I know is MY experience there... Still great pizza, but I would suggest you can find a much better Italian restaurant. Sorry.

Yelp
You could never have a bad meal at Umberto's. It's always on point. Everyone knows the fried cappellini is the best in the world.

Yelp
Tonight our party went to the famous King Umbertos in Elmont on Long Island. From the start the place was amazing. The decor is wonderful and tasteful and the service is absolutely top notch. Out server Joseph was so experienced that he took four orders without a pen, he remembered everything down to the smallest detail and his wine and dinner suggestions were spot on. From the famous capelini balls and fried calamari to the makn course and dessert everything was perfect. Our party had two chicken dishes and two steaks dinners. Everyone enjoyed their meal so much that all the plates were cleaned before being taken away. Even the sides were delicious. The crem brûlée and espresso topped the evening off and were prepared perfectly. Cannot wait to go there again.

Yelp
King Umberto's is part of our weekly rotation for dinner. 75% of the time, we order pizza, but their dinner entrees are also delicious. In terms of pizza, you can't go wrong with any. I'm a pizza connoisseur and absolutely love every single option. My favorite would have to be the Grandma, Bad and Bougee, Broccoli Rabe. My kids are obsessed with their garlic knots and pepperoni rolls. Several of their dinner entrees are also delicious. We always order the lasagna, chicken francese and baked clams. I love this place.
