Kingly Court is located on land that was sold in the 1680s for development that included an academy of trade, a chapel, a market house, residential structures housing employees, private residences, etc. The roads connecting these developments would become what are known today as Kingly Street and Carnaby Street.
The transformation of the architecture of the area reflects the fortunes of property developers and residents over the centuries, when buildings would become consolidated into warehouses and commercial establishments.
While the exact origin of Kingly Court is unclear, its connection to this history is clear based on the physical evidence that survives: old brick walls, high chimneys, cobbled paths, narrow alleyways, etc.
When you come, make sure you have enough time walk leisurely along the length of these two streets, and criss-cross through the smaller one, to appreciate this history.
