The Best Sports Bars in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Beloved Uptown watering hole Kinpin boasts chef-driven pop-ups and food trucks like Daddy Hot Bird during games. Plus, the bar’s regulars are simply the best. Oh, and there are often live bands on Saturday nights." - Eater Staff

Google
This is a proper Uptown neighborhood dive bar. Excellent service, the inside is clean and air conditioned, and they have a fantastic patio out front. Betting this spot is extremely good in the fall through spring. Bonus: they have prosecco splits for those that don't like typical dive bar drinks. Huge score considering my wife is one of those people.

Google
This is a great hangout bar. There’s a ton of seating inside and outside. They have shuffleboard tournaments. Seems like a fun time. Easy bar to get to and a great off the beaten path place to go.

Google
Great neighborhood bar. The bartenders are all super nice and very personable. The drinks are great and they welcome new neighbors/regulars quickly. I love you guys!!!!! 💖

Great view! Happy lives here, get some on the front porch with a friend 😁

Google
Chill local dive with a refreshingly older yet hip crowd. Nice place to escape the noise of college kids and have a peaceful drink in a dimly lit, relaxed yet upbeat atmosphere.

The Chandlers

Google
Great little bar. They have shuffle board, darts, slots. Very friendly staff and the owner was super nice as well. The drinks are very reasonably priced as well.

Yelp
Always a stop when back in Uptown NOLA. My favorite ambiance and people. When in NOLA drop in to this townie bar. One of the best.

Yelp
Wrong! Don't ever trust a tourist from Missouri to know anything about NOLA dive bars. This was NOT Anthony Bourdain's favorite. As any local -- or anyone who has read Tony's second book -- knows, it was SNAKE AND JAKE'S CHRISTMAS CLUB LOUNGE "where naked people drink for free," per Tony. (But no longer since Tulane frat boys messed up that tradition.) Also, Missouri Dude, there's a new thing called Google: https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/movies_tv/where-did-anthony-bourdain-eat-and-drink-in-new-orleans-heres-a-list/article_9b36162c-74fe-5a1a-b2a5-08d45f997171.html Jeeeeez. And to think I used to believe everything I read on Yelp. . .

Yelp
This bar is rumored to have been Anthony Bourdain's favorite NOLA dive bar and you can see why, its a great little neighborhood place. Congenial crowd, cheap booze, easy parking and a nice happy hour. Not to be ignored is the very old school shuffle board inside the bar. Recently added outdoor seating during COVID, its on my basic NOLA dive bar list but not the kind of place you'd bring your aunt Bunny-unless she's a fan of dive bars. Lots of interesting regulars.

Michael W.

Yelp
Solid dive bar if you enjoy drinking beers on the sidewalk with some friends, which I do.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood bar, been there a couple of times. Drinks are reasonably priced and a fun neighborhood dive bar of plenty of options for seating. They have a pretty generous happy hour, not sure of the exact hours but I know we were still getting those prices around 6 PM. They have two black jack slot machines a shuffleboard game and TVs in view from every section of the bar for sports enthusiast. I live in the neighborhood and I've noticed there is a food truck always parked nearby That seems very popular and is mostly comfort barbecue food. Probably the best part of this bar is that it is the neighborhood dive bar that brings all ages and walks of life from hipsters to senior adults. It is a perfect bar for hanging out and talking to friends,

Yelp
I use to come to the Kingpin a long time ago (5-8 years ago, I'm getting old and I'm getting bad at remembering times) and remember loving this place. The Kingpin introduced me to shuffleboard which is still my favorite bar game. At one time it was one of the only places that had it so maybe my love for the Kingpin was a lack of options. Jeannie and I rolled in here this past Friday night only because Taceaux Loceaux was out front and we had never been. I'm guessing that this was the reason for the bar being completely full. The bar is small to begin with so when there are 50 people in there it seems like Bourbon on Mardi Gras day. They only had 1 bartender working while I was trying to get a few beers. She was friendly and busting her ass then a guy walked in and pretended to help her but he was kind of an ass. It's a busy bar, make a fuckin' drink or get out of her way. She seemed to get 8 drinks to his 1. The crowd was also a lot different then I remember. Lot's of young Republicans with their pink Polo's tucked into their white shorts while wearing loafers mixed with equally rich bearded trust fund bearded hipsters drinking PBR in a can to give the illusion that they don't care. Both groups are Tulane/Loyola kids who are equally rich and will soon be bitter enemies in their political beliefs but for now there was no Sharks and Jets dance fighting. Anyway the bar was impossible to enjoy so we drank our non PBR beers outside on the curb while enjoying our taco's. I'll have to come back on a non taco truck night to see if this place was how I once remembered or does this too fall into the category of things "My memories are better than the real thing" category like Spaghetti-O's and Voltron.

Yelp
As an true, loyal and die-hard Elvis fan, I have to give this place 5 stars! It would devastate me too much not to. Lol. Seriously though, I'm a fan of this little dive bar. That's the important point to remember though - it's a total dive populated with kind of quirky regulars and that's more than ok, because it's part of its charm. It is on the small side as well as being awfully dark inside, but the regulars are very welcoming and nice, the service is good and once again, let me state - any Elvis fan will LOVE it. It's just chock blocked full of Elvis charm and charisma! What's not to love?

Yelp
New Orleans, Louisiana --- The "Kingpin" is a nice neighborhood bar with an eclectic collection of bar flair, including a unique display of vintage metal hubcaps ... A rarely seen shuffleboard game provides an entertainment option ... bartender Mark is a "rare" friendly & interactive NOLA bartender and a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite ... customers Bronwen & Scott made me feel comfortable and welcome ... day 038 "DUSA 2017" (Discover USA) day 081 "666 Bars of 2017" / bar 186 "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! 04.01.17

Yelp
Bartenders were Jonny-on-the-spot with drink service, even when the keg had to be changed. Taco Loco food truck provided great bar food. Everything was flavorful, but the sleeper hits were the unassuming bean tacos and the deceptively simple avocado fries.

Yelp
A dive bar and a shrine to Elvis? Yes please. King Pin is a great example of a New Orleans Dive, but with a great selection of beer. In particular, they offer Magic Hat #9 which I thoroughly enjoy. The bar is extensively decorated with Elvis memorabilia. I found it very hard to not think about the King, or plan a new trip to Graceland while sitting around drinking. For anyone who has not plotted a road trip while sitting in a bar, you're missing out. The bar was really dark. In fact, it may have been too dark especially when you consider that I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read something on the bar. Despite the lack of light, I did really like the bar. I hope to come back soon and drink some more Magic Hat in absolute darkness.

Yelp
I have been coming to King Pin for over a year now. It is a great, super divey, Elvis-themed, Uptown bar. They have a fully stocked bar, with a good selection of liquor and some beers on tap. I've never asked for wine there. Watch out for their specialty cocktail- the dirty pompadour (jaeger shot + absinthe?) If it's your first (or 100th) time, try to stick with one. It's delicious, but will hit you hard. Also, I think there's a minimum on credit cards. They have shuffle board and darts. You have to pay for shuffle board (or maybe just for the score board to work?) and you can get the darts from the bar. Not a lot of seating and everyone is typically standing inside or outside the bar. It's a great low key place to go if you're in the neighborhood. The Taceaux Locaeux food truck is there on Fridays, but usually sells out or leaves before late night.

Yelp
Kingpin is an absolute disaster, in the best way possible. What kind of crazy bar makes you MISS being bombarded by plumes of smoke, like a tapestry woven over 20 years of cigarettes? Kingpin. It's so laid back that you like how dark and weird it is. The bartenders are really nice. The food trucks are great. Shuffle board + decent bathrooms There's a super diverse crowd: from Lawyer yuppies to hippies and older people. For what it is, it is perfect. If you're looking for fancy cocktails or anything instagram-able, go to Freret

Yelp
love this spot. what a great place. I get up here on occasion, and this one was a christmas mart. sweet. big fun. lots of goodies to see and buy. great staff, and great room. dive? meh... y'all got my taceaux dude there on fridays. all hail.

Yelp
A true dive (and a lot of people get that wrong in New Orleans), I stopped by King Pin last weekend for a quick drink. I forget how chill this place is. Staff is nice, but not phone. Drinks are silly cheap, and taste good. You're served quickly, and you're free to go on with your night. Not a huge fan of $10 minimums (especially when it might take three to hit that quota), but that's being pretty picky.

Yelp
My friends really loved this place for awhile so this was kind of our default hang out for a few several weeks one psychotically hot NOLA summer. It does seem to be quite the "neighborhood bar" - located away from hectic-ness of Magazine street. You'll see locals here, but sometimes yes, college kids and law students. The actual bar is quite quaint and intimate - definitely not the place for extremely large groups. The service is pretty prompt and acceptable and drinks are decently priced - the other patrons can be friendly but will strike up a conversation with you should you so desire. I recall there being darts, maybe even a pool table in the back? It's been too long! There is a shuffleboard table perchance you dabble in that sort of treachery (I suck at it!). I prefer Kingpin over most of the bars on Magazine, that's for sure, but I wouldn't say it was a "favorite" because there was nothing particularly redeeming about this place. It just happens to be an all right place to hang out with few friends when compared to the alternatives.

Yelp
I love a good dive bar, and King Pin would seem to fit the bill, but...there's just something missing there for me. Perhaps it's the stairs...I mean, who wants to climb stairs when they're drunk? Not this lady. Perhaps it's the bartender who asked me out, then stood me up? Or maybe I stood him up...oh dear...who remembers. Perhaps it's the layout, with a huge pole in the center of the bar that you have to navigate around? What is this, an obstacle course? Perhaps it's just the higher-than-you'd-expect prices for draft beers? Yeah, that's probably it. I guess their drafts and premiums are better quality beers than you can get at most (okay, all) of my favorite dive bars, but I'm a simple gal who likes simple (okay, cheap) pleasures in life. Going to King Pin feels like going to a dive, but more expensive. I dunno. It's just not right. That's not to say it's not a cool bar. Just not my favorite.

Yelp
Colorado Springs is a dead town for foodies, and culture for that matter. As a New Yorker in exile I suffer greatly. Therefor I am overjoyed to be in NOLA which completely owns great food and great culture. Kingpin is an amazing local spot with great people, vibe, darts and shuffleboard. What makes this place even more amazing is every Friday night Taceaux Loceaux (Taco Loco for you who don't get it) a top 25 food truck in America parks out front. For those of you from more rigid states, you can take your drinks outside and your tacos inside. Order the Amaze Balls and a Seoul Man taco. Both ridiculous! 5 stars cuz there ain't 6. Great food, great people, great drinks = great fun!!
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Great dive bar! They have games for entertainment and on certain nights they have a food truck outside. Friday is when Taceaux Loceaux rolls up and serves their amazing food. I like this bar. It has a great neighborhood feel.
google avatar

Yelp
Even on an average day this bar is still hot. AC sucks. Kind of smells funny. Some bars smell better with smoke in them.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Its all Elvis all the time so like it or leave. This is generally a pretty cool place and has a blue collar vibe to the place. The prices are a bit more than I would expect in a place like this. I got really turned off about this joint when they put Obama stickers on all the beer taps. I'm all for you supporting your candidate and all the joys of democracy but I don't think a beer tap is the place to put political crap like that.

Yelp
Let me start my review by saying that I'm not one to normally spend the evening at a bar. I went to the King Pin because Taceaux Loceaux was outside that night and they had a new dish, the Supercabre goat taceaux. We got there right when the truck was setting up and they said they would be fifteen minutes or so and we decided top step into the bar and get a drink while we waited. Stepping inside was like walking into another world. Outside was the hot Louisiana summer and in here was a cool Elvis wonderland. The owner loves Elvis and the place is decorated appropriately. While waiting to get dinner I was delighted to see not only Blue Moon on tap but also Andy Gaitor. At this point the bar was just like all the others I've been to and I was quietly waiting to get my dinner. Then one of the patrons saw my shirt and asked me if the band on it was still together. This seemingly simple interaction with someone in a small bar was the gateway to a pretty fun evening. See, this is the kind of patrons I found there. In the next five minutes I made two new friends and by the time my food was ready one of them offered to buy another round for a guy he just met. For the next four hours my girl and I chatted with our new friends, drank a couple of rounds, and had a bunch of the best food truck tacos I've ever experienced.

Patty E.

Yelp
I have been going to King Pin for 4 years and love it! It is a comfortable, fun place. Many of the same people frequent the bar but new faces are always welcome. It is a great place to relax, sit alone or enjoy the company of others! The bartenders are the best as are the owners!
google avatar

Veronica S.

Yelp
Much like Dennis G., who I came here with, I am not usually one to spend my evening at a bar. We came for Taceaux Loceaux, which parks outside on Friday nights and happened to have goat tacos that night. As we had to wait for them to get set up, we went inside and got drinks. They have Blue Moon on tap (and put a slice of orange in it!), which makes me incredibly happy. The inside looks like an Elvis memorabilia warehouse exploded. Almost every available surface has something Elvis-y on it. The Kingpin also seems to be a favorite place of, obviously, the Krewe of Rolling Elvi--probably my favorite of the small Mardi Gras krewes. After we got our taceaux, we met the other two guys who happened to be sitting at our table--a crazy Irishman and an Alabama redneck who insisted on buying us a round of drinks after they discovered we liked Father Ted. Several hours (and rounds) later, we were still talking. I love it when I have an unexpectedly awesome night out.

Yelp
It's the very definition of a dive, but certainly not the most interesting one you'll visit. Drink prices are kind of average at best, and you'll leave having developed a nicotine dependency. I've never seen so much smoke in such a compact area. The night crowd has weirdly varied each time I've been: once packed with jaded college-aged hipsters, the next visit flooded with middle-aged couples kicking back after work, etc. My visits were spaced out several months apart, and I haven't really experienced the Elvis overload that other people seem to. Either way, there's nothing that really stands out about this place enough to make a drive to, even from within Uptown. I suppose if you live around Prytania/Upperline, you've got yourself a neighborhood hangout, but otherwise...eh.
google avatar

Bruno V.

Yelp
Great dive bar. They seem to be well loved by Taceaux Loceaux too which means you can eat tasty stuff. Also nice to be able to adjourn to the park across the street.
google avatar

Nancy K.

Yelp
Love love that this place is stumbling distance from my abode, which makes it usually either the first or last stop of the evening... Friday nights for Taceaux Loceaux, which also does Monday nights for the shuffleboard tourney night. The ONLY reason this place isn't full 5 star is the downstairs ladies bathroom. Took me quite a few visits (and quick trips home as needed) to figure out that there was a much more pleasant lavatory facility located in the back corner behind the dart boards. (Just be careful to avoid the darts!)
google avatar

Mary Mac J.

Yelp
I like this bar. It makes me feel at home (I'm from Memphis and it is Elvis themed). The drinks are good and the prices are okay. There are games, namely shuffleboard and darts. Folks are friendly enough. I would come here more often if there was outdoor seating or a pool table. It's divey, but i've seen much divey-er.
google avatar

Cyndee S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar with stiff drinks. They have shuffle board and darts. They don't serve food, but the convenience store across the street makes a good burger, drunk or not. They have a great assortment of craft brews, but still no Ballast Point (I'm a San Diegan after all). If you are in Uptown, thirsty, and want to hang out with some cool people, come to the King Pin.
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
The Kingpin is a cool place to catch the Saints game, or catch a band when they have one. They have an extensive beer selection and the crowd is always nice and friendly. The place does tend to get crowded on weekends. One huge complaint: the smoke in this place is insane, even if there aren't a lot of people in here.

Steven S.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Chase the bartender was awesome. Right down the street from Upperline restaurant. Hit the bar first and then go to Upperline and you have a great night in store,
google avatar

Michelle H.

Yelp
I happened upon King Pin about a month ago when I was in the Uptown area and found it to be a pretty cool spot. My friend asked me if I was into visiting a Divey bar, and of course I was intrigued, especially since I'm not one to say no to a good dive bar. Now what I define as a dive bar as opposed to my friend is totally different, yet I was not disappointed. Our bartender was pretty knowledgeable and they had a GREAT selection of beer both draft and longnecks. Any bar that has a cold Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout on hand is A-OK by me. Also, the fact that I did not spot any hipsters totally won this place brownie points. The prices were extremely reasonable and the regulars were cool to talk to. The bathrooms were VERY clean for a "dive" bar leaving this girl happy! I had a good time and would definitely visit again next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Holly G.

Yelp
After coming back a few times in the afternoons I decided this place was pretty cool. I like it as an after work kinda place as opposed to a Friday/Saturday night hangout, but I'll keep returning.
google avatar

Tina C.

Yelp
I use to live on Lyons back in the day. My bf and I (at the time) We would walk here to grab a beer and talk with the owner. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this place. Great neighborhood bar. The owner was in love with elvis, everything is elvis up in here. Sweeet! If your in the area, get a vodka 7 here, they are the BEST, and really big :)
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
This is a good neighborhood dive bar that is periodically over-run with college preppy types seeking to experiance the grittier side of night life. Drinks are priced fairly, but be careful that the bartender doesn't take your $20 and give you change for a $10. It only happened to me about a dozen times, and I dont think it was an honest series of mistakes. If I hadn't lived only 3 blocks away I probably would have drank some place else, but it was still a decent hangout.
google avatar

Monique L.

Yelp
I second Sami A's review from 9-9-12. Unbearably smoky inside. With the higher than normal prices they charge, would it kill the owners to break down and get a smoke eater? Even Finn McCool's invested in a couple. Better yet, go smoke free. I couldn't stay more than 45 minutes, the smoke was that bad. Stood outside and drank my beer amidst a gaggle of toddlers and baby strollers, courtesy of the yuppie parents who come for the taco truck. No thanks.
google avatar

Yelp
For Uptown, this is a great dive. Since I moved here 5 months ago, I have been a pretty frequent visitor. Loved the staff, until you start to notice that they let a lot of offensive people do whatever they want. Last night was the last straw. I had a friends wife visiting from Atlanta and after a great meal at Jacques Imos, I thought a nice drink or two at the local water hole would be great. Johnny was our bartender and Garret was bar-back for the night. One of Garrets roommates came in with two women and four other men. They were celebrating a birthday for one of the men (local doctor) and one woman got sick and left - the other started getting sexually assaulted and harassed by the birthday boy. After making fun of breast and grabbing her, he then proceeded to grope her. No one did anything about it. The birthday boy then started calling her a whore, prostitute, etc. and that she only Fu@k's for money. It was at that point the weeping started and this idiot kept going on and on. My friend and I both were besides ourselves and I told him to knock it off. He then starts screaming that he hasn't done anything wrong. Some name calling in-sued and then he called me out to meet him in the street. Johnny finally came over to what I thought was to end this, but NO - he pinned a dollar bill on his chest as the drunkard proclaimed "this whore fu@ck's for money!" The woman is still crying her eyes out, but is intimidated to leave. At this point, I could see that nothing was going to be done by the staff and they were now part of the problem. The guy then starts telling me he is going to kick my ass and what not and to take it outside. I obliged, he never showed and a bartender from another local bar kept me outside to diffuse the situation until they left. Came back in and my check was waiting on me. Johnny let me and my friend stay to finish our drinks, but later accused me of instigating a fight. WTF? The normal King Pin mentality is to just throw both parties out regardless of right or wrong, because they are too afraid to grow a backbone and protect the innocent. I won't go back!
google avatar

Laura T.

Yelp
It's easy to get to, the staff is super friendly, it's relaxed, and the food trucks outside are awesome. Play some darts or a little shuffleboard and chill. This is a great place to share a pitcher between friends.
google avatar

Mallory E.

Yelp
I've only been here for the 610 Stomper Crawl (I've been meaning to go) but it is always a blast. Of course the three times I am there hundreds of other people are there at the same time descending on the bathroom, air conditioning and beer. The staff seem pretty nice and I hope to make it out there on a regular weekend!
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
Dive dive dive bar. A real Nola bar. Friendly staff , reasonable brew, diverse crowd. Not many college kids for being so close to Tulane. A real shuffleboard is available and is actually played frequently with Monday being tournament night.
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
One of the greatest dive bars of all time, The Kingpin, or "The 'Pin" as the regulars call it, is a great neighborhood bar with lots of atmosphere. Laid back crowd, great selection of beer, lots of seating and shuffleboard. The bartenders are fast and super friendly, and no matter what you are into, you'll feel at home at this bar.
google avatar

Christine A.

Yelp
This place was packed on a Friday night but with snooty people; the bartender included. I tried to get her attention by raising my hand and she about bit my head off for doing so. I may give it one more chance but probably not anytime soon, there are too many other places in town to bother.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Bartender is nice and met a cool guy on one of my first nights in NOLA. Went with my cousin to her Pussyfooter dance practice (they practice outside on the neutral ground). Said he'd be back next week...alas :(
google avatar

Kathleen L.

Yelp
In celebration of Elvis', this is the place to go. On the Anniversary of The King's death, the Kingpin went all out. Clockwork Elvis performed in the midst of the dancers and the Rolling Elvi worked it out on the stage. Fabulous scene. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Kingpin is cool. another neighborhood bar this time uptown. they have a dart room in the back and shuffleboard on the left when you walk in. low lit. taceaux loceaux is always out there on a friday night. a true dive bar. I'm a fan and ill def go back.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
From outside appearances, I expected this place to be dirty, smoky and cheap. It turns out it's none of those. It's actually a decent place to grab a beer with a good atmosphere and a surprisingly good selection of 15-20 beers (although short on dark beers). For a neighborhood bar it's not cheap, though ... the good drafts are $4.50-$5.
google avatar

Kiley M.

Yelp
I love this place. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 is the crowd tends to be a little young (college age) on Friday and Saturday nights for my taste. It is close to my house, inexpensive and has a very friendly staff. This is a GREAT place to watch the Saints games. We watched the NFC championship game there and had a blast!
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Cool small dive bar in the heart of Uptown. Dark bar with interesting stuff on the walls and a couple tvs. They have shuffle board and darks. Very local feel but sometimes it will be super crowded with college students for some reason. Gets pretty smokey though. Good people overall. Too smokey for it to be my regular.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
I agree with the other reviewer. It is much nicer inside than it looks from the outside. The service is always very friendly. Good draft selection including NOLA Brown and Blonde, two Abitas, Blue Moon, Newcastle, Hoegaarden, and two Flying Dogs, among others. The beer is a little on the warm side for me...

Spenser K.

Yelp
I probably had my best football experience in New Orleans at the Kingpin (excluding the Superdome). I went for the opening game against the filthy Packers, and though the Saints lost, I still had a great time. The owners also run a new pizza shop in the city, and to cross promote they had free pizza for everybody who showed up. It was full without being packed, the crowd was fun and friendly, the bar staff delightful. Good beer, good staff, good times. I definitely plan on returning.
