8 Sustainable Santa Ynez Valley Wineries to Visit

"Just outside Solvang, I found James Sparks’s unassuming industrial tasting spot to be unexpectedly rewarding: he greets visitors by appointment and pours minimal-intervention wines made from organic grapes, drawing on experience at respected wineries like Dragonette Cellars and Liquid Farm. His personal label covers Semillon, Grenache, Chardonnay, and Syrah, as well as some experimental sparkling wines, and he serves them with a self-deprecating humility that makes the tastings feel personable and fun." - Lauren Mowery

Could California’s Central Coast Be the Future of Local Food Tourism? | Eater LA

"A very small wine label run by winemaker James Sparks that has begun slowing production amid pandemic-related declines in tasting-room traffic and tourism; its limited scale and reliance on in-person visits make it vulnerable, though experienced winemaking expertise provides some resilience." - Farley Elliott

The best wine tasting experience anyone could ask for! James is incredibly friendly and welcoming, and his passion really shines through in every pour. Each visit, the wines just keep getting better and better — a true gem for wine lovers!

I love this place! Some of my favorite wines I have tried in Santa Ynez Valley and so cool to do the wine tasting with the winemaker himself and learn about his methods, ask questions and more? I am not a Chardonnay lover, but James Sparks did a fantastic job with these. Fruity, crisp and just a slight hint of oak. And the labels are just so fun too. Perfect for a gift!
