12 Top Places for Afternoon Tea in NYC | Eater NY

"Quaint digs can be found at this UES gem, situated in an antiques-filled, chandelier-lit duplex space in a townhouse on a quiet side street. King’s Carriage House does a lovely afternoon tea that isn’t bank account-gouging. The classics-focused menu, three-tiered presentation and all, goes for just $24.95 per person. Savories include salmon pinwheels and goat cheese tartelettes with mango and tomato, while sweet treats range from lemon curd squares to apricot coconut tea cakes." - Kathy YL Chan

This is such a cute and cozy tea spot. It reminds me of the old school authentic tea houses we went to before tea became an insanely high end thing. They have a nice fireplace and living room style set up and have really pretty tea pots in different shapes. The set up reminds me of a cute house. The tea set up was really nice and they had a good number of veggie options to eat. Insta: @TheShahLALand

This was a truly perfect experience. From the moment we walked in, everything was fantastic. We were warmly greeted by the owner, and each part of the process was flawless. Both the food and the service exceeded all of our expectations. While this is not our first time here, this is our first time to experience the holiday version of the high tea. Each one of the items was very flavorful and fresh…nothing missed the mark. And by New York City standards, this was extremely affordable. The venue itself is so cozy and intimate, there are so many little details that make you feel like you are in a fancy London establishment. Make sure to come hungry, because you will leave full!!

My friend and I absolutely adored our High Tea time at Kings Carriage House. She and I were both craving a high tea moment but she is gluten free so we tried to find a place that could accommodate and KCH did! You step into this slice of peace and quiet and the tea was fantastic (we highly recommend the “Paris” tea - and thank you to Alan, our amazing server, for that rec!) We really enjoyed the scones and tea sandwiches and desserts- my friend loved the gluten free version and we were able to sit for a few hours and catch up. We also got to chat with our server Alan who is lovely and the rest of the staff who were so welcoming and we just can’t wait until our next stop in! I highly recommend adding this as a stop if you’re craving a break from the bustling crowds!

I cannot recommend this place enough for afternoon tea. The sandwiches were a perfect blend of creative and traditional and the desserts were so scrumptious and fun. The afternoon tea menu is perfectly portioned so you are satisfied without being overwhelmed (and so lovely to have an option for an additional entree if you're looking for more!). And the place itself is just so warm and cozy you'll want to burrow in it. I spent the whole day after we ate there smiling! What an absolute gem. I can't wait to come back.

Go somewhere else. You’ll thank me. This place is old school. You can’t make reservations online, but we were able to make reservations over the phone. We came for afternoon tea, and it was a disappointing experience. The sandwiches and cakes were minuscule and didn’t taste good. At $45.95/person, you’re not getting what you pay for. You can get significantly more and better food at other tea places in the city for a comparable price. FYI, they won’t let you swap out the sandwiches, so if you’re not a salmon fan for example, you’re stuck with the salmon sandwiches. The only redeeming quality about this place is that the location is cute. However, the A/C either wasn’t on or wasn’t working the day we were there, and the heat was stifling.

As I stepped into Kings' Carriage House, I was immediately transported to a world of warmth, elegance, and charm. The beautifully decorated interiors and inviting ambiance set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. My friends and I opted for the exquisite afternoon tea experience, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. We savored a delightful assortment of savory sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and delectable sweets, each morsel bursting with flavor and artfully presented. The addition of an entrée made our afternoon tea both satisfying and indulgent. Our server was good, ensuring that we had everything we needed to make our visit truly memorable. From the exceptional cuisine to the warm and inviting atmosphere, every aspect of our time at Kings' Carriage House was nothing short of perfection. Kings' Carriage House is a hidden gem in the heart of the Upper East Side that offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Whether you're looking to indulge in a delightful afternoon tea or enjoy a sumptuous dinner, this enchanting establishment promises to leave you with cherished memories and a longing to return.

Google
10/10 for the atmosphere! It is absolutely gorgeous, the decorations, furniture, the plates and everything else. The floor tho is very old and you feel it sinking under your weight and some spots have a big holes on it. Could be dangerous if you wear heels. 8/10 Service is nice, but you totally feel Britishness in it. 6/10 The food is diverse and enough to feel fool. Bread was a bit dry and cucumber sandwiches missed some cream or butter to them. Scones were amazing!!! They are warm and moist just perfect amount to have them with jam and sour cream. It is expensive. The cheapest package is $38 and with tips and comes up to $50. This is not a restaurant, food could definitely be improved for the price paid. But this is an experience and I recommend people to try it!

Visited here on a girls trip and we were not disappointed! We chose the Afternoon Tea option and a later time closer to closing. It's pretty straightforward as to service. We had pre-selected our time online and they do give grace if you're running a few minutes late which is great for traffic reasons. After being seated, the waiter hands you a menu with the two options on it. (Afternoon or High Tea), the difference outside of $10 is you get a "main dish" option with High Tea. Once you choose the one you want, your tea is brought out with your "food". We found it a nice array of tea sandwiches and desserts and it filled us up to our surprise. We were never rushed to finish quickly and got the experience we came there for. The area you're eating in is a tad cramped if full (which it was when we went), but somehow we still felt like we had our own section to talk amongst ourselves. You may have to maneuver a bit past some people in chairs to get from your table to the bathroom though. Also, I'm not sure if it's very Accessible since I didn't notice an elevator anywhere and again, the dining area is small. There is a private dining area I noticed in the back so they probably do small private parties. Being candid, I did find the scones a little dry and maybe cooked a little too long, but it wasn't a big enough problem to cause us to not enjoy it. If you're in NYC, and want to try Afternoon Tea, you should give it a try! It's one of the more affordable Tea experiences.

Yelp
4.5/5 This place is so so cute and lovely inside. The tea service is great. Limited tea options, but I am a classic Earl Grey girl myself so as long as they have that I'm a happy camper. The scones and ginger sandwiches are tasty and the price is reasonable. This is such a hidden gem on the UES. I have been here twice but noted that they do a changing menu for some season/special occasions (Autumnal tea, Christmas, Mother's Day, etc). Hoping to swing by again soon!!

Yelp
I have had afternoon tea all over the world and. been to hundreds of tea salons. This was by far the worst and NOT a good representation at any level of a tea salon. I prefer to give it 0 stars, please do not waste your money here. Currently $45.97 + tax + tip. PROS: The Paris tea was delicious with honey that we had to ask for CONS: A dog and it's bed greets you at the door at the foot of the stairs. There is no elevator; if you cannot maneuver a flight and a half of stairs, this would not be a place for you to go. Once upstairs, the whimpering dog was heard from the first floor throughout the subpar "Afternoon Tea." A disruption that contributed to the subpar tea experience. The decor consisted of Loosely attached, peeling wallpaper in the dining area and in the lavatory. Beyond negative experience: - Tiny morsels of food being served on STALE BREADS - White sugar and packet of Equal as sweeteners; honey is not offered unless you ask, .- This was not loose leaf tea but store bought tea bags. - Stale, cold desserts - Ice cold crème for the egg size scones (2) - Ice cold whipped cream that has hardened in the refrigerator. It appears to have been brought directly from the refrigerator to your table. Unspreadable. - portions are extremely small and not substantial at all. One tablespoon size dish with jam and cream for two people. - This was not clotted cream - Tea selection is extremely limited - Postage sized Stamp-sized lemon curd bar was ice cold and stale Do not go here if you have gluten sensitivity, you will be charged an extra &10 for your meal. There are no vegan options at this time, that menu is still being developed it says on the menu. THIS IS AN EASY - HARD NO, NOT EVER!

Yelp
I came for a lovely private party on the second floor. There were 12 adults plus two young, non-mobile kids. That felt like a good amount of people, though I believe they let you book a bigger group. I was surprised that tea was filled just with water each time. (How long can the tea leaves really be good?) Overall it was a nice experience. Food was very good, though I was less impressed by the desserts. Presentation was nice. The rooms definitely feel a little stuck in another era, but that's part of the charm. Very memorable experience.

Yelp
I came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! The decor is cute, and the ambiance is great. This was my mom's first high tea experience, and she really enjoyed it! The teas offered seemed mostly Harney & Sons rather than unique blends, but they had my favorite Paris and Vanilla teas, so I didn't mind. The teapots were also really cute. We ordered the vegetarian high tea with the lunch option. I enjoyed the sandwiches and small bites, even though the cucumber could have been cut a bit less thick. The little sandwich halves with the cucumber were my favorite! I also highly enjoyed the little desserts provided, especially the lemon dessert. The scones were also very good. The lunch seemed small, but it was filling! It was fun to dip the grilled cheese into the soup then finish off the soup as it's own thing. Even though the booking is for a certain time frame, I'm pretty sure we stayed 30 minutes over and they didn't give us any issues. I would come back again!

Yelp
King' Carriage House is absolutely remarkable! NOT! Can they possibly charge higher prices for sandwiches that were relatively the size, diameter and thickness of nickels and quarters? The bread was dry and stale. The spreads and fillings, bland. The scones, tiny. The "clotted cream", pre-packaged processed gelatinous goop. The scones, boring. The service was impeccable. Not the servers' fault that the food was sub-par. Can I give this establishment ZERO stars? If you're entertaining the idea of going there... keep on walking.

Yelp
The worst afternoon tea I've ever had, and I've been to many! All of the sandwiches, most of the desserts and the scones were completely stale. The tea was weak. The waiter disappeared for an extraordinarily long time and only checked on us once to refill water after bringing the food (we were the only people in the place). When I complained about everything being stale, he said oh that's strange let me look into it and then never did. At the end we had to go downstairs to get our check because he forgot about us. Also, he did not credit us anything for the stale food. The place also seems like it's falling apart. Hard pass on this place!!!

Yelp
Wow! What a waste of money. $38 per person for afternoon high Tea. The place is very cute, nicely decorated, although certainly dated and needs better upkeep. One of the deer heads on the wall (which don't need to be there at all anyway) is losing hair on his neck. It's gross. Service is fine, nobody's really attentive. Nobody's ignoring you either. Order refilled, hot water in the tea refilled. Food brought timely. The quality of the food however, was the low point of the afternoon. The smoked salmon pinwheels come from a package. They were on dry crusts of bread. The little deviled eggs were actually OK. And the goat cheese was good but again the bread was going towards stale. The second of the three tears had finger sandwiches of cucumber with very little spread underneath on stale bread and chicken salad on cranberry walnut bread. That was OK if you like chicken salad. The bottom tier held pastries that were maybe frozen previously. Certainly not fresh from any local bakery. And not enjoyable might I add. Since there are many other tea spots available in New York City, this is one I would not recommend you wasting your time at.

Yelp
Came by for the Afternoon Tea and enjoyed the small bites along with sips of the tea (from the offerings provided). Vintage-y teapots and decor gave off Afternoon Tea with the Queen vibes. Price was set at $38 per person for the offering we chose. Compared to other afternoon tea spots, the price point is low to fair and I would say although the bites weren't anything special, it's worth stopping by and spilling some tea with friends.

Yelp
Very high end high tea experience. Good food, ambience and a nice little spot tucked away in the city

Yelp
This is such a cute tea house in the UES! The set menus are pretty reasonable. I was impressed by the decor and the brunch item with scrambled egg and crispy potato was delicious. I will say the finger sandwiches and treats were not impressive. They came around and allowed us to sample their holidays treats - peppermint bark and candied oranges. Yummy! Love the tea selection!

Yelp
Phenomenal experience. I went to tea with a party of 7 (we made a reservation before hand) and we were seated so quickly. We went upstairs (it is warm be prepared!) where we were seated and asked about what tea experience we would be doing that day, we all did afternoon tea shown below. The teas we chose from where very impressive and some where very different which was nice. We chose a raspberry, paris (a cross between English breakfast and early grey) and early grey. The tea itself was so good, it came in different pots so you could see the difference. The food was chefs kiss. The canapés shown here were both vegetarian and non vegetarian. The only difference between the 2 was the salmon, and chicken salad sandwiches. The best canapé was the whipped goat cheese with fig jam, could've eaten like 20 of those, the devils eggs were also so good. I would say overall great little lunch spot for ($48) per person. I probably won't go back, but not because it was a bad experience just because I want to see other tea parlors across NYC! TLDR: Totally come here to try their teas/canapés where great. Service was top notch!

Yelp
Enjoyed a charming and traditional afternoon tea experience. The delicious tea and treats, coupled with the delightful theme, made it a personal favorite.

Yelp
Came here for the afternoon tea. Place is really cute and as you walk in you can see a small sitting area and a bar. The seating area is in the back and they also have an upstairs. Place is small but very nicely decorated. Reminded me of a cottage. Yea service is $38 per person and comes with your own teapot, 2 scones and mini sandwiches and mini dessert. Portions are small but food is delicious. The variety of tea I do have to say is very limited. One of the cutest things were the teapots. They were square. Very charming. Service was good and I do recommend making a reservation just in case. I do recommend this place for afternoon tea.

Yelp
I had a good time here, the place wasn't empty on a weekday afternoon. We got seated immediately. The afternoon tea selection was a pretty good price for what it came with. The sandwiches were fine and the pastries were about what you'd expect for this style of place, honestly on par with cheap pastries elsewhere. I did enjoy the scones and clotted cream. The area where this place probably fell short was the service. Entering the place, it didn't feel all that welcoming. They acted as if we were perhaps lost. There was also no one downstairs to greet you immediately. Prior to coming, we had tried to make a reservation. They don't seem to answer their emails at all, but that is how they mentioned we should make a reservation. Overall, for a more budget-friendly afternoon tea, this seems like a decent spot. Others in the city that we had explored seemed pricier. I would say this place is more about the experience as a whole.

Yelp
Went there with friends . Loved the ambience . Was disappointed with the quality of bread .May be it was a day old bread . Cucumber sandwich one of them was made with back crust of the bread . Liked the chicken sandwiches . Tea good .Dessert was dry and felt stale .The place looks like old English cottage .Needs to be renovated .

Yelp
If you are looking for decent afternoon tea, look no further than King's Carriage House. The tea service here is good and the staff is very pleasant. They have a normal afternoon tea service, a high tea service, and a seasonal menu. Today we opted for their holiday menu which was more pricey than their normal menu but at $55 per person, it's still a great price compared to other tea services. Even though the server was very nice, they didn't offer many options when one of our party had food allergies other than don't eat that. So if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions, you might want to call ahead to see if their menu can accommodate you. The food that we received wasn't exactly what was on the menu; we did not receive the goat cheese mousse with spinach, and artichoke pesto, instead we got the goat cheese with caramelized fig and pistachios which is on the normal menu. We also did not get the gingerbread tea cakes with the eggnog glaze. The server did not mention a change in the holiday menu and I did not notice until I was writing up this review.. Another thing was that they gave us uneven number of items. We were a party of 3 so there should be the same menu for every person. Like we only received one lemon tea cake and 2 of the coconut tea cakes, or only one of a specific cookie and 2 of another. How you supposed to split a tiny cake or cookie 3 ways?! Anyways, aside from that the food was decent and I left stuffed. If it wasn't for these minor things I would've given this place 4 stars. I would still recommend this place for a nice decently-priced tea service.

Yelp
The place is beautifully decorated. This is really a great experience for the price. I wish I could rate it higher but the service was slow. I really appreciate their employment of older staff. There was a wait for the food and to be seated. It felt as though the place is understaffed. Beautiful bathroom! And a great place to take selfies. The foods were okay but nothing to scream home about. I enjoyed everything besides the cucumber sandwich which could use more seasoning. Their peach match tea was very lovely! Also their bathrooms was a great place for selfies!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because it's an adorable hole in the wall that time forgot, but at the same time, the food and service were not terrible but not also not great. Came here with a group of friends as it was an accidental discovery for another afternoon tea house in the city and were really stoked to try it. The tea choices were alright but the kitchy teapots were not practical. The food options were average as well, but once it was received it was all dry and somewhat stale... which was unfortunate. It did not seem like it was made there at all. The service was well next to nonexistent? Once you had received your afternoon tea sets you kinda had to hope someone would come upstairs to refill your hot water, and when checking out we gave up on waiting and went downstairs to check out. The only thing it had going for it was the interior which seemed to be a portal to old New York. As far as afternoon tea places in the city go unless you dig interior design more than food it's a pass from me.

Yelp
This place is so sweet and nice! It's small, quaint, and the tea amd food are great portions honestly. The scones are perfect, and the staff is also top notch. They do take cards, and their valentines menu was stellar in particular. I'd reccomend reservations to make sure you've got the full experience!

Yelp
12/10/2021 The British quintessential afternoon tea is something that can be enjoyed for any occasion. December brought me to New York City to close out the year. While the omicron variant became increasingly steadfast during an already ongoing pandemic (two years and more); the Big Apple felt a bit normal during the most festive time of the year. As a last minute planning of sorts, my friend and I wanted afternoon tea in lieu of Christmas. New York is full of luxury hotels (i.e.; The Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, and The Plaza just to name a few), but that neither my friend and I wanted to spend upwards of $100. We found Kings Carriage House on YELP with a great price point. Location: the upper east side within distance to Central Park and to museums such as The Guggenheim. The nearest metro station is on 86th Street via the Q line. Arrival: tucked away on a quiet street, and it's red brick facade blends in with its towering neighbor. Keep an eye for a charming small cottage like building and you'll be at the right place. Service: in a pandemic world, it's recommended that you make reservations anywhere you'd like to dine in. For my friend and I, and this being a last minute drop in; we were prepared in the event there was no walk-in allowance. To our delight, the friendly and professional host was eager to get us a table, and with that; we were in! First Impression: walking in to Kings Carriage House felt like delving into a hideaway invoking London or somewhere in Great Britain. The front of the establishment has a sitting room with rustic British flair along with the host/hostess desk. Past the waiting room you enter a hallway and to the right is a Victorian styled restroom. Further past the hallway is the main dining room with large glass doors giving in plenty of light. The Food: our host was also our waiter and he gave us ample time to decide on what to order. The menu had several options including specials for Christmas, but was also not overwhelming or cumbersome. We each decided on their winter / Christmas set with champagne which includes sandwiches, petite fours, salad, scones, appetizer (we both chose mini grilled cheeses with soup), and tea of course. The food was exceptional and the tea was kept hot with refills from a polite server. It was a laid back and relaxing experience. Both my friend and I came in content and left with warm full stomachs. Such a beautiful establishment!

Yelp
Such a really cool atmosphere with lots of lovely little details. The plates and teapots are adorable. Large tea selection and a good mix of little sandwiches, pastries etc. The scones were amazing too!
google avatar

Mardi L.

Yelp
A cute little cafe that serves afternoon tea - sandwiches, cake, scones. Very nice. The only problem was that the bread products were a bit dry and stale - I assume the sandwiches etc. had been made earlier in the day and been left to sit uncovered. Service was great.

Yelp
A shabby sham. We arrive to a crowded front room, no host in sight. Seated in order of who had arrived first, no mention of prioritizing reservations. We were "put" in the back room, our table of four oriented in such a way that our party formed a semi-circle against a wall. With table cloths one would find at a corporate conference. The server took no interest in serving, that is, he had no interest in food allergies nor flexibility. His subtext: "Let's get this over with, and move it along. Hurry up". The tea strainer arrived after we had already poured our tea. The food was paltry - missing advertised ingredients such as Roquefort cheese, chives in the butter, watercress, and smoked salmon. Not to mention missing actual items that were supposed to be included. Paltry and puny. Oh, the restroom. Peeling wallpaper, not in a charming way. No hand towels. Ick. And in the way that seems to be standard practice, these days, our room was requested to leave for the next seating. The art of eating, drinking and conversing is gone. More a gas station than a gastronomical affair. A call center rather than client relations. Ugh. Disappointed and dour.

Maura L.

Yelp
LOVE IT HERE!! Feels like you are walking into Europe on the UES. The service is amazing, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I could sit here all day. Can't wait to be back. I have been to other teas in NYC and this is the best.

Leda A.

Yelp
Awful stale breads, ice-cold rock solid creme for scone, old and musty ambience, extremely small bites. The worst afternoon tea I've ever had.
google avatar

Shahana G.

Yelp
The service was excellent. We ordered the vegetarian afternoon tea with the entree. The entree was fairly small and the breads for the finger sandwiches were fairly dry. They deviated from the online menu (omitted the pinwheels) which was a little disappointing. The teas were excellent (they use Harney & Sons) and the definitely recommend the Paris black tea.
google avatar

Dolonchapa C.

Yelp
Good not great place for tea and catch up. The interior is very cute and decorative. We went at 3p and most of their good teas were over (whaaa!) The afternoon tea has a couple of options- we chose the basic one. It comes with your usual sandwiches and scones and pastries. Everything is okay not great. The bread is on the dry side. I doubt they bake their own. The scones could be way better. That was possibly the biggest letdown :( Pastries were fine; had a homemade feeling and not in a good way. When I think of afternoon tea I think delicious finger sandwiches, tea, pastries and scones. Everything was fine just not upto the standard I was looking forward to. But their service is good and it's a very reasonable price.

Yelp
I came here during a Saturday morning with two others. None of us had ever had high tea before. The place was pretty busy from what I could gather so I would suggest having a reservation before visiting. My experience here was ok. It was around $30 per person. In return, we received an assortment of finger sandwiches, warm scones, and desserts. Similarly to the reviews I read before coming here, I felt that the atmosphere was unlike any place that I had ever been to. It was cute and quaint but also very cramped. I felt like I was transported back at least two whole decades. The food itself tasted a bit stale -- in other words, it tasted like it was not made fresh and had been sitting out for a while. Also, there was definitely not enough food to even get close to us feeling full. The tea was actually delicious. I ordered "Paris" which tasted almost like bubble tea. The service was slow but friendly nonetheless. I probably will not be coming back here again, but I am glad I got to have this experience.

Yelp
If you can't tell from the picture next to my name, I don't drink tea with sandwich much. Some would call this high tea. lol. Service was slow. Ambiance is nice. I think the menu is bit limited, but sufficed. As a hungry person, can I get a full sandwich? That's usually my thoughts when I am at tea. I did enjoy the colourful cup design. I enjoyed my time here. Tea was good. It's really a 3.5 star.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
I'll be straight to the point: 3 stars for food, 5 stars for ambiance, 4 stars for service. The ambiance is so unique and a hidden gem in upper east side. It's so well decorated, I felt transported to another world during my afternoon set. At $30, it was also appealing because of the value. The food was a little bit lacking because while I was eager from the menu, the sandwiches and desserts seemed a bit stale. My lemon poppyseed small muffin, I would bet, was at least a day old -- a bit crunchy even on the outside. The sandwiches were yummy but the middle tier (circular) was a bit dried out. Service was pleasant but a little slow. Small things like cream and sugar were missing but seemed to be the norm. Nothing out of the ordinary during service but they were very pleasant to welcome us upstairs when we first arrived. Overal 4 stars for the experience but food was about a 3 - 3.5

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday afternoon for afternoon tea with a group of 3 people. I made a reservation in advance by calling. I tried emailing first but it took a few days for them to answer emails. The place was very cute and actually a townhouse with two floors of seating. The first floor seemed to be for private events. We were seated on the second floor. The afternoon tea set was very affordable compared to other afternoon tea places. Also, the afternoon tea set had a good variety of savory and sweet items. I'm not a fan of the sweet items so I'm glad there was a lot of savory items. I really liked the goat cheese with mango/tomato sandwich and the sesame chicken on cranberry walnut bread sandwich the most. The flavors were more unique than other afternoon tea places. The scones were warm and fresh as well. Service was very friendly and helpful. This was definitely one of the better afternoon tea places in NYC.

Yelp
Came for afternoon tea around lunch time and I was really happy with my experience! It's a cute little space with lots of cute decorations. The service was really nice and attentive too. I got the decaf vanilla tea and I loved the vanilla aftertaste after. I liked all the food that came with afternoon tea as well. Would definitely recommend this spot to anybody looking for a great tea spot in the UES.

Yelp
We arrived on time but the other 2 guests in my party were running late. The waiter was rushing us and repeatedly told us we only had 1 1/2 hrs to keep the table. He asked us for our tea selections and we had tea while we waited. Our other 2 guests arrived about 20 min late and the waiter immediately asked them what tea they wanted, before they could even take off their coats. After he took their tea order, he came back with our food tower, he did not bother to ask us which tea service we wanted. Scones were good, but tiny - they give you whipped cream instead of clotted or devon. Food was fair, we had dry tea sandwiches. It was a bizarre uncomfortable experience. Soace was pretty and interesting, but Felt cramped - and we were sitting on wobbly folding chairs. Not elegant at all. Will not return.

Yelp
Went for the first time this past weekend and enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere, food, and service were good.. Looking forward to returning another time soon but can't put my finger on exactly what was missing to make it a five star review.

Yelp
Made a reservation for afternoon tea, this place is about a 10 minute walk to the Met so I decided to eat a lunch here and then go to the Met. The place is super cute, very British with slightly squeaky wooden floor and the walls are drawn murals - quite charming. We ordered the afternoon high tea (the difference with this and the afternoon tea is that is comes the stuff included for the afternoon tea plus an entree - which we thought was a good deal for another $10 additional). The entrees. I liked the salmon and eggs, fluffy eggs and good amount of salmon - it came with some cucumber and fish roe garnish which tasted pretty good. The other entree we got was the grilled cheese and mushroom soup. The soup was really good, and the grilled cheese sandwich was sort of small - cut into finger sandwich sizes but yummy. For the afternoon tea tray - it came with three layers. The top layer had finger sandwiches that were savory, our favorite was the goat cheese and pickled pepper one. The second layer was scones with clotted cream and jam. The third layer was the sweets. I was a little underwhelmed with the amount of food that we got for $40 per person (or $80 total). The other tea places I've been to have similar prices with significant more food. The meal was filling, however, because we ordered the entree. But, I wish the sandwiches and the scones were a little bit bigger. For the tea, we really liked the jasmine and the ginger+lemon tea. They were delicious. My comment is that we couldn't change the teas which was a little bit different than other places I've been to for tea which give you unlimited refill on types of tea. Overall, a fun place to check out and the silverware is really fun so worth a visit but it's definitely not a budget restaurant.

Yelp
Came here for afternoon tea for a friend's birthday and it was lovely. Our server was super friendly and chatty. Very reasonable prices and the inside is well decorated (although a bit tiny so better to make a reservation in advance). The teas were definitely the show stopper - I loved the Paris black tea and jasmine tea. The scones also tasted super fresh, and the little sandwiches they served were super cute :-)

Yelp
Remains a secret retreat. Enter the house that is King's Carriage and lose a few centuries and the noise and congestion of the city. My favorite place to surprise out of towers. Luscious tea service. Exquisite service. Perfection.

Yelp
Service was just impeccable. I loved the vibes the tea place had. The pastries and sandwiches were so yummy, and had vegetarian options :) the tea was SOOOOO yummy. We got the earl grey tea it was so good. Since then I've been only drinking earl grey lol. I've had better overall tea time experiences. I'm not sure what the other tea places are like in New York, but the other place I've had tea was in San Francisco.

Yelp
Wonderful! It was a delightful tea service... lovely way to spend a weekend morning . Can't wait until they are open again for dinner

Yelp
Would never recommend, food was bad (found plastic in a sandwich), the manager of the establishment made it a point to try and get a larger tip out of our group and make a scene. Completely disrespectful and unacceptable for this kind of behavior towards a paying customer in an establishment.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this little gem of a teahouse a few weeks ago and met Paul, the owner. He graciously let me snoop around and enjoy the decor for free, and I promised to return. Did so today with a friend for my birthday. We both enjoyed the salmon entree along with all the other delectable treats! The decaf vanilla tea was delicious and we throughly enjoyed the food and excellent service from Mamoun and our waiter Allen. We will definitely return! We had High Tea which included the entree but the Afternoon Tea is plenty on its own.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. We had been to the afternoon tea at the plaza before this. We loved kings carriage house. They had a nice and wide selection of teas and the accompaniments to go with the tea were fresh and great. Two of us were vegetarian and we loved the veg options for the tea as well. Service and the ambience were also great. Highly highly recommend this place for an afternoon high tea experience.

Yelp
If you want to overpay for awful food and service, this is your place. Honestly, there are way better places in the city for this experience and they come with amazing service. The bread on the sandwiches was stale, the scones dry and hard, there was nothing worth eating. To top it off, the waiter spilled tea on us multiple times and other guests too. The tea pots leak, so it's unavoidable. Save yourself the trouble!

Yelp
This hidden place in an 1850s era house was a delightful experience. It's called the King's carriage house because they believe the house was originally park of an estate located at higher ground (maybe closer to where 5th or Park are now - when all that area was the countryside). I went for High Tea in the early afternoon as a special treat to myself. I was the only person there (odd time, an extremely cold day when not many ventured out, and during Covid - indoor dining just opened). By the way, there Covid safety practices were thorough. My tea was delicious (despite being bag tea and not quality loose leaf). My thoughtful Irish server was extremely attentive and accommodated my special dietary needs. The finger sandwiches were pretty good. There could have been a better ratio of filling to bread though. The scones were delicious as well as the cream and jam. I also had a delicious salad of endives, poached pears, candied pecans. The presentation was beautiful. It could have used a bit more salt/seasoning, but that may have been because I ordered it without the Roquefort cheese it comes with. It was still great - I ate every bite. Currently, they are offering dinner on the weekends - inside and outside with heaters. They gave me a current menu and I hope to go back soon.

Yelp
I attended a High Tea Birthday Celebration at Kings Carriage House and it has a very relaxed vibe. I enjoyed the sandwiches and the smoked salmon was delicious. Service was great and the tea was phenomenal. I really enjoyed this experience.

Yelp
I finally had the chance to come here for afternoon tea with a friend. The place is small, cozy and adorable with an old Victorian ambiance. Upon entering, there is a comfortable dark brown couch, and elegant chairs with a little circular table in between, with natural sunlight streaming in from the large front window. There is a display of ceramic dogs and plates, along with a pot of deep pink flowers and green leaves. There are white stairs leading to an upstairs area which I did not get to see. When my friend arrived, we were taken to the back dining area, which was really nice and more spacious than it appears from the outside. The tables are covered with white table cloths with a dark purple and pale green flower arrangement in the middle. The walls were yellow and had tons of interesting photographs and plates throughout. There wasn't a huge selection of teas to choose from and they were not that unique, which was a bit of a disappointment. I just went for the classic Earl Grey which was smooth and strong. I think the tea that sounded the most different was Cinnamon and I should have gone for that. I did like the tea pots that the tea came in though - They were all shapes with themes such as Mary Queen of Scots, Alice in Wonderland and Pinocchio. We were served 3 tiers of deliciousness on the tea service caddy. The top plate had 4 different types of sandwiches, savory bites; the middle plate had scones with jam and cream and the last plate boasted several types of sweets. There was even a separate plate for chocolate covered strawberries! My favorite little sandwich was chicken salad with cranberry bread. The chicken salad was incredibly flavorful, very tender and had a satisfying crunch. I also liked the open faced egg salad sandwich, which had just the right amount of mayo and seasoning. There was an open faced sandwich with cream cheese and thin slices of cucumber, which tasted light and refreshing. Last, a cute little box with white cheese, diced peppers and tomato on top was quite tasty, particularly the oh so creamy cheese. The scones were delightfully flaky, moist with blueberry and not overly sweet. The jam and cream it came with was wonderful, though I would have preferred clotted cream. Dessert was a lovely assortment of mini cupcakes, cookies and cakes. There was a dark chocolate mini cupcake with vanilla frosting which was very airy and velvety. The sugar butter cookie was pretty yummy and melted in my mouth. I enjoyed the lemon tart which had the perfect lemony citrus taste and the crust was nicely crumbly. There was also a glazed poppyseed pastry which was pretty good. Then there were little chocolate boxes with yellow sweet cream inside, topped with blackberry and raspberry, respectively. These were bite-sized wonders of intermingling flavors of chocolate, cream and fruit. The only one I wasn't a fan of was the citrus coconut cake, because I don't like coconut for the most part. The chocolate covered strawberries were a decent size and delectable. I love the taste of rich, dark chocolate and sweet strawberry. The price of all this was $25 per person, which isn't too bad. All the finger foods were well prepared and the service was great. Our waiter was nice and everything was brought out in a timely manner. I would like to come back to try the brunch!

Yelp
Came here for my friend's bridal tea party and was delighted by the food and the service. We were seated at three tables upstairs, which basically is a private area with its own bathroom and mini bar. What I particularly loved: -- Service was impeccable - waiters continuously topped off my bubbly and refilled our teapots with hot water -- The finger sandwiches are very yummy - I particularly loved the cucumber sandwich, though the chicken salad was also good -- The scones are served warm in a basket, and I LOVE that they are small, about the size of a golf ball so you can sample more finger food without feeling bloated They also have take out tea sandwiches, scones, etc. which is perfect if you want to host at home or cater an event.

Yelp
Cutest tea house I've been too! They currently have outdoor seating only due to Covid-19 but they do have warmers outside. The afternoon tea option is worth the money- you get all of the choices on the menu as well as a choice of tea- with three refills which is more than enough for one person- all for ~30! Our waiter wasn't as attentive as I would have liked but it was a cold day and there was only 1 waiter for about 4 tables. The tea kettles were adorable- they were mostly Disney themed and had different Disney characters on them. Would be back again!
