The Best Things We’ve Eaten Lately

"“There’s no shortage of soft serve in Seattle, but being from Long Island, I had given up on finding a suitable stand-in for Mr. Softee. But then I stumbled upon King’s Deli. It’s a convenience store in the CD that serves fried chicken and jojos, but they also sell massive vanilla/chocolate cones for two dollars. On a hot Seattle day (so, 75 degrees) when nothing but a creamy swirl in a cake cone will cure any grumpiness you’ve got, King’s Deli is the place.” - Aimee Rizzo, Staff Writer" - julia chen 1, carlo mantuano, aimee rizzo

The Best Soft Serve In Seattle, Ranked

"Here’s our constructive criticism of soft serve in Seattle—the portions are a little small for what you pay. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth at King’s Deli, a corner convenience store in the Central District that serves ice cream among trays of fried chicken and jojos. For only $2, you get a massive cone of delicious, drippy vanilla or chocolate (we prefer the vanilla here). On a hot day when you need to cool off, scrape together a few quarters and go to King’s for some sweet, momentary bliss." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

TOP SECRET SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM: You would never know that this little deli/convenience store tucked away in the Central District sells delicious soft serve ice cream in the summertime. These are your standard, no-fuss soft serve, and I love them. Creamy and light texture, not overly sweet, and no hefty outrageous prices. I think they cost $4/cone. The size in the photo is a small which is plenty big enough for me. I'm a bit of a soft serve junkie, and some of the places I've been to recently include Indigo Cow, The Pastry Project, MOTO Pizza, and Temple Pastries' new ice cream and sandwich shop (that opened on July 5, 2024) and had some of their strawberry sumac vegan soft serve. Out of all of them, I think King's Deli has the best b/c it's simple and unfussy. And the price can't be beat. The atmosphere is nothing special but that's OK by me. One caveat, be sure to call them before you go just to make sure the soft serve machine is ON. Sometimes when I've stopped by they haven't turned the machine on yet, and I have to come back though in the summertime, it's usually on all the time. It's a hot tip secret and I aim to change that 😎

This used to be my neighborhood corner store my whole life, but i was overcharged years ago by the new owners. Proved it, and they didn't correct the wrong. Havent been back since.

That chicken is still good, I haven't been here in years. Nice to see they survived the gentrification. Got 3 big wings and 3 Jojos for $7.50 Next time I'm ordering extra Jojos with ranch. They have big $2.50 beef and veggie sambusa I need to try as well. They do need to add jalapeno poppers to the menu. Staff is very nice.

Kind of hit or miss with the selection. I've gotten ice cream that was freezer burnt before, but then other stuff is fine. Normal convenience store selection of snacks, but also some grocery staples like milk. Very reasonably priced. During the summer they have soft serve cones for like 75 cents. They also serve lunch food like fried chicken, but I've never tried it. It's nice to have a close option I can walk to when I need something last minute.

Tried and true, this corner store is family owned, and serves up hot tenders, JoJo's, chicken wings, corn dogs and more. My kids and myself have been coming here for two years, never any issues with expired goods, and the grocery selection includes stuff commonly found in Ethiopian cuisine, like lentils, teas, and spices, to American snacks like Doritos, grandma's cookies and faygo.

Very good chicken, especially for a corner store! I love that it's not salty either. The customer service is great as well. No complaints, just wish they had more of a variety of items in the store.

This place used to have amazing chicken and jojo's. And now it doesn't. Im told they've been sold to new owners and it isn't the same. Don't bother going in here for really anything.
