An amazing linear park that recently opened (2019). The trail is a secluded nature tunnel through a very urban area of Midtown Kingston. One trailhead is in Kingston Plaza behind the Catskill Mountain Railways, the other trailhead is across the street from the Outdated Lite Cafe on Downs Street, just north of Broadway.
The crushed gravel walkway is sunken below street level. In July, the trail sides are walls of lush green vegetation reaching up to street level. This damps the noise from traffic, giving the effect of being far away, out in nature. It's a completely different way to experience Midtown Kingston.
I saw a few other pedestrians and dog walkers. But so far this amazing path seems vastly underutilized. I expect it to get more use as each section of the rail trail opens up and connects.
The trail is clean and safe, but I did spot some litter. Please consider picking up a piece of trash or two each time you come here for a walk.
