Kingswear Castle | Best castles to stay in

"This bewitching artillery fort, built 1502, is now a one-bedroom, 2-room historic hideaway. Interiors are contemporary, with all the home comforts you’d expect, but sufficient original features remain – from thick stone walls, low, beamed ceilings and passageways to bedrooms, to evoke the sense of history. The bedroom is on the ground floor, the living room is on the upper floor, and there’s a roof terrace with lovely views across the estuary to Dartmouth Castle. " - Matthew Roach

This is privately owned. We walked there from the steam train hoping for a beautiful view and place to picnic but found only Private Keep Out signs everywhere where we might have glimpsed the sea! The view along this bit of coast appears to have been purloined!!

Spent £10 on a boat to access the cafe. When they say dogs not allowed in the castle, what they mean is anywhere on the castle grounds. We were kindly offered to do family shuttle runs to the castle while one member of the family stayed behind…..we declined.

What a lovely place, full of history and coastal walks, very picturesque with a welcoming village.

LANDMARK TRUST HOLIDAY LET NO PUBLIC ACCESS. Fabulous place to stay with true atmosphere. The garden is a real suntrap. Beware there are 32 steps from where you park to the front door and then 28 steps up to the living area. I would recommend a small to medium size car as access is tight.

What a beautiful one off experience. Highly recommended. Lots of stairs so be warned but the views, sound of the sea, history etc make up for it!

Firstly, Kingswear Castle isn't somewhere you can go and visit. It's a holiday cottage, run by the Landmark Trust. As a place to go and stay for a few days, it's amazing. Where else can you live in a Castle right on the rocks by the sea for a few days. Inside it's cozy and warm (well, the living rooms anyway) and it does feel like a castle. The view from the roof terrace is stunning and the grounds are lovely. We've stayed twice now and loved it each time.

The castle is located in a fantastic hill and there is a stunning view from there.

Not possible to get to location.every thing is private property or private road. No parking. Not worth wasting time
