Yelp
I crave ramen as a comfort food and when the mood struck, I would hunt for the best I could find in Montreal. We've tried several restaurants. In time I asked a colleague from Japan where he goes to get his ramen fix. His reply was Kinton Ramen. So we diehard ramen fans found our way to both the one at St Catherine as well as this new one (opened in 2018) in Côte-des-Neiges.
We've tried the four flavours of soup: original, soyu, miso and spicy. All are amazing. I see that some diners have commented that they find the soup too salty. I think the taste is authentic, as it should be. (Well, ramen soup should not taste like chicken broth, know what I mean?) But if you go for the original, it's the least salty - but still as tasty. The spicy soup is, however, quite lethal and so it will hit the spot if you're a chili fan, or your tongue will BURN... Unlike another renowned Ramen restaurant that has been named in one of the reviews here, which I've also tried, the soup here is as soupy as soup should be - not thick & gooey, and thus slurp-able and sip-able right down to the last yummy droplet.
But I should also mention the noodles. You can choose the thick or the thin type. What's important to me is the chewiness. And here they meet the mark. The pork is slightly seared before being added to the soup, giving it a nice note. With an egg and bean sprouts and other garnishing... to die for!
Three desserts, all great.
So, food wise, this is a five star. Service too is great - attentive, cheerful and prompt. Another thing I like about the location at Côte-des-Neiges is that there's ample street parking and it is free after 6 pm on Sat.
