The Best Ramen Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"First Toronto, now Montreal: Since setting up shop in May 2016, Kinton Ramen (an affiliate of Kinka izakaya) has raised the ramen stakes with seven outposts in and around the city that mix the Japanese craft with Canadian ingredients. Diners who finish a bowl to the last drop can become an official Kinton Bowler, where more bowls mean more prizes." - Valerie Silva

Google
Been to many Kinton Ramens before, but this one outstands my expectation. The staffs were very friendly and welcoming. The resto had a very chill vibe, felt very cozy to spend an afternoon late lunch with friends. They have a new Ramen Shoyu Brule that is very unique from other Ramen soups based I had before. For a lack of a better word, it is very exquisite 😋👌We also had the Pork Donburi which had a smoked meat flavor, really special and rich flavor. I would also recomment the Japanese Hot Tea on a cold rainy day.

Google
I had an amazing experience at this Japanese ramen shop! The broth was rich and flavorful, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of seasoning. The noodles were fresh and cooked to perfection—firm with a satisfying chew. I especially loved the chashu pork, which was tender and melted in my mouth. The atmosphere was cozy and authentic, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. You can really taste the care and tradition in every bowl. I’ll definitely be coming back again. Highly recommended for any ramen lover!

I had the original beef broth ramen with a side of fries and a Coke—simple combo, but damn it hit the spot. The broth was rich and savory, noodles cooked just right, and the beef was tender as hell. Fries were crispy and seasoned well, solid side. Overall, comforting, flavorful, and satisfying. Would absolutely go back.

Google
It was just relaxing to eat here one rainy day. We didn't expect much at first but then after having it, we started looking for their branch in Ottawa since we live there. The atmosphere is relaxing as well and the servers are nice. Worth the money

Google
The food was so freaking good!!! My boyfriend was so hangry going into this meal and after the first bite he immediately perked up. Food: delish. Service: immaculate. Definitely coming back here!

Google
Had delicious ramen here with my good friend. Service was amicable and I enjoy visiting here. We were served by Noelle and Brandon.

Google
I came to Kinton Ramen Union in the summer and tried their seasonal cold noodles. The experience was great. *Ramen Yuzu Chill* is very refreshing, with a strong aroma of yuzu, and is very appetizing, especially suitable for hot days. The texture of the noodles is just right. Noelle Andrew was attentive and helpful throughout the visit, which made the dining experience even smoother.

Yelp
While I was in Montreal, I had to check out the FAMOUS Kinton Ramen (yes, I know about this spot from their graphic t shirt collaboration with Uniqlo LOL). I stopped by around 8:45 PM, 15 minutes before they closed, but the staff were so kind and lovely, let me dine in, gave me a free drink on the house, and even told me to take my time and not worry about closing. I ordered the spicy garlic pork ramen with thick noodles, and I was blown away with how flavorful the broth and QQ (chewy) the noodles were. I didn't like the pork that much and found it a bit tough and gamey, but they do have two other types of meat (chicken, beef) as well as a vegetarian option available, as well as seasonal menu specials. If I was at McGill, I'd probably visit this spot a bit too often LOL, and I highly recommend checking them out for their comforting ramen bowls and incredibly kind service!

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner and got the following: - Beer/Sake Combo: Comes with Original Pork Ramen and a choice of beer or sake. I went with the beer. You also need to decide if you want thick or thin noodles, went with thin. - Original Karaage Simple interior design and layout, either you sit at the tables or the bar. The staff member was very friendly, service was quick and the food came out fast. The Karaage was perfectly fried, seasoned and delicious. However, no dipping sauce is provided, all other joints that I've been to will give you a mayo dipping sauce, not here. The Ramen - noodles were perfectly cooked, however honestly package ramen had a better flavor than their Original pork ramen unfortunately. I had expected this rich and creaminess of the pork broth, that was sticky-lipped intensifying, but it was not. This was disappointing and thus can only give 2 stars. I can't say for other noodle type, but original pork ramen needs a lot of work.

Yelp
The ramen is pretty good, environment is very comfortable and has a good ambiance. Servers are really kind and have service in lots of languages! 10/10 experience.

Yelp
Cute well lit ramen spot in downtown MTL good for family and friends. The service was nice and our food came out in decent timing. We got the repas pour quatre set with végé gyoza et edamame. I got the Jalapeño épicé au poulet with an œuf assaisonné & a coke. I would've gotten the limonade however only boissons gazeuses are included, so be aware of that. The ramen itself was good, the chicken however was a bit dry and that's where they lost half a star. The other half was when I found out gratuity was already included after tipping. I only found this out because I happened to see the restaurant check (the one they give you has that price on there, but it doesn't say tip). Well played. The food was good enough to return for, but not the games.

Yelp
C´était très bon. Le décor ideal avec une bonne ambiance. le service était impeccable aussi.

Yelp
Came in late night on a Saturday. Group of 8. Worker tried to turn us away. Big guy. Service was bad. They reminded us about 4 times that the restaurant closes at 12:05 am even though we were told 12:30am. They turned off all the lights in the restaurant right at 12am. I asked the waiter if they had tonkotsu ramen she said "this is a ramen restaurant, we don't have tonkotsu" I then proceeded to order the classic pork ramen with THICK noodles and I received the thin noodles instead. I asked the waitress to confirm for me that my order was correct and again I get a bothered response from the staff and of course she was wrong but didn't want to bother the cooks to make me another bowl of MID level ramen. The place overall was MID I have had better ramen at the food court at the Eaton plaza down the street. I don't recommend this place. Bad experience.

Yelp
We got into the city from Ontario and we're starving! We came in and it was empty snd service was fast. Our server was super sweet and energetic! I ordered the usual Tofu App and Shoyo Veggie Ramen. Love this location! For sure my favourite one out of any I have been to!

Yelp
I've been to many, many ramen restaurants across North America...Kinton Ramen is one of the best. My ramen was delicious : from the seasoning, portion, flavor, it exceeded my expectations. It was especially fulfilling on a cold Montreal day, you should check them out!
google avatar

Seamus O.

Yelp
Spicy garlic pork ramen delicious! Quick service and good prices. Beer is a but expensive though.

Eric P.

Yelp
So we were hungry and had just landed in Montreal. Kinton was relatively close and had great reviews. So we went and both got the spicy ramen. My girl didn't eat hers after a few bites but I powered through -- I was hungry. The meat hit the trifecta -- thin, tough, and dry. The broth was weirdly spicy, like maybe Louisiana hot got in there or something? I don't know but far from expected - it is very yellow.. but yeah, no egg, no mushrooms, no naruto , just two spoons of raw garlic. The noodles were pretty good. Takoyaki was the saving grace here. Honestly, nothing redeeming about this ramen, and to be fair I didn't read the menu and just pointed at the picture.

Joi D.

Yelp
Ramen was ok, decently priced. But the service was not great. We had to seat ourselves and catch the waiter to finally get his attention. No follow up with our food while dining. Again had to catch the server's attention multiple times to pay.

Yelp
I really don't like giving three stars, but the ramen bowls were really overly salty...so salty that I had to dunk in my water and it was still too salty. Also note that only the two "original" ramens come with a soft boiled egg. I found out only later that my shoyu ramen didn't have an egg (that was a little bummer!), especially since it's the same noodle only with different soup base... I have to say that it's conveniently located in downtown and the staff is nice. Restaurant gets quite busy during lunch, but we got seated in less than 8 mins.
google avatar

Yelp
The best ramen restaurant in Montreal so far. I tried the spicy pork ramen and they are surprisingly spicier than I expected. Generally Japanese ramen is less spicy than Chinese ramen but Kinton is on par and that was a good surprise. Besides the flavourful and rich soup, another satisfying surprise come from the noodles. They were al dente, which is unlike many Japanese ramen restaurants.

Yelp
Even craving ramen for a few months and this totally satisfied it! Glad I waited till the hype calmed down to check this out (in Montreal, have yet to check out the ones in Toronto). Ordered the table d'hôte menu of ramen, appt and drink for $19.99. Got the original pork with pork gyoza and ice tea. Gyoza was ok...would have expected it to be hotter (temperature), 2 of the 4 were at room temp, nothing special. Ordered thick noodle, but in hind sight, thin may have been better. Broth had good robust flavour, yet not overly salty. Would have liked to have the egg cut in half instead of me having to bite into a whole boiled egg. Would recommend anyone looking for a bowl of good ramen.

Yelp
Decent quality ramen, with excellent service. Coincidentally, we came here for the $5.18 anniversary special priced ramen. Surprisingly, they were not crazy busy and we were able to be seated within minutes for a table of 2. This location has only been open for a few weeks. I liked that they anticipated that the promotion may make them super busy, and they overstaffed for it. Because of this, service was really good and the restaurant was not packed. Waiters were always friendly, attentive and filling our water. It also helps that there are multiple locations here. On to the food. I had the miso pork ramen and my boyfriend had the spicy garlic ramen. Both were very tasty and flavourful. I loved the depth of the pork broth. I also really enjoyed the buttery pieces of pork, which had the delicious torched taste (although my boyfriend's bowl had a different cut?). I added an egg for $2, which was so worth it (but part of me thinks that it should just be included in the bowl, especially at regular price). The spicy broth was really spicy, we both had difficulty eating it and had to take our time. I'd recommend asking for less spicy if it's possible. I think I liked the miso one more overall. Portion wise, it got me just full and satisfied, but I definitely could have ordered an appetizer or two. But I couldn't justify it because most of the apps cost more than the ramen itself at the promotional price! If you finish your bowl of ramen, including all the broth, you can get a stamp on your stamp card. Once the stamp card is filled, you get to turn it in for a prize. I've been to a few Kintons in Toronto, and I would say that they are comparable (but Toronto is a lot busier). I still remember the garlic chicken karaage ramen special on Monday! Would recommend, and would be back even when it's not on promotion!

Yelp
The special weekend ramen was on fire ... Sorry I was on fire.. picked level four spice and I could handle spicy .. not sure I would pick five. Bit it is want too set ur a&&& on fire got for it. Even at that level of spicyness it was packed with flavour. The meat portion is fair and quality is good. Nice that they server alcohol :) The staff was nice and always on top of it.. water ..quick service ..the bill .. and all of it with a smile. I don't think this would be my go to ramen spot but when it's cold out ..is for sure make a stop if it's on my way.

Yelp
This is my go-to ramen place in downtown Montreal whenever I crave for one :) I love their monthly specials!! But, their original pork ramen is the BEST! The creamy broth and chewy/al-denté thick ramen noodles never disappoint me! The takoyaki was exquisite! It had a soft texture and it was very moist! Highly recommended! Pork Ramen ($13.45) Takoyaki ($5.50)

Yelp
You can always rely on Kinton Ramen for a quality noodle experience. Their menu works in a 3 step process: choose your ramen base, choose your topics, and choose your side dish (the last two are optional). Straightforward ordering process. when I went, I got the spicy pork garlic ramen and a ton ton don to complement the noods. And how was the food? GOOD STUFF. The ton ton don's pork was deliciously seasoned, and was a great appetizer while I waited for the main meal. Meanwhile, I enjoyed the spicy garlic pork ramen's rich broth and spicy flavours. The chashu pork had a rich flavour, and was a relatively fatty cut (which I love). You'll definitely notice the GARLIC BREATH afterwards (and if you don't, your partner will!) Only gripe? It's kind of pricy for the amount of food you get. Around $22-25 for a meal after taxes and tips. No problem with the actual food though... enjoy. :)

Yelp
Glad to have this Kinton because it's much closer to my apartment than the one further downtown. Kinton has tasty ramen and a nice atmosphere. The spicy garlic pork and miso pork are always solid and lately the cold tsukemen ramen has been perfect for the summer. Kinton is cool because they are constantly having specials. The cold ramens (tsukemen and a roast beef one) are specials for the summer and earlier in the summer they had a great combo that came with fried chicken and black sesame ice cream. They also have drink specials sometimes. I love the homemade lemonade sake soda drink. I really really wish they would bring back the savory dipping ramen they had last fall at their downtown location, it was one of my favorite ramens ever and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Servers are always friendly and the service is pretty quick most of the time. Last time we were there was during Otakuthon and they were completely swamped. They did their best with it though! We didn't have to wait too too long. Will definitely continue coming here!

Yelp
Came here with hubby for a late-night ramen trip. We got here around 9:20 pm. About 40 minutes before closing time. They seated us right away and took our order. Food came out fairly quick, about 10 for the sides & another 5 minutes later our ramen came out. The gyoza was really good, I think the sauce made a huge difference in flavor. The rice with beef was good too, I remember eating something similar to it growing up. For ramen, I ordered the spicy miso, and my hubby ordered the tonkatsu black special ramen. My ramen tasted OK. but I expect more from the reviews. And My husband's ramen was so bland!!! The broth tasted like they just added oil to the water without any seasoning. I actually added my own broth to my husband's bowl to try to give it some flavor.... maybe we are spoiled coming from the Bay Area, CA - where we have the famous Ramen Dojo in San Mateo, & Ramen House Ryujin in Sacramento, etc. overall, food was not memorable and I wouldn't go back. Service was great though.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to have dinner during COVID-19. They have an outdoor patio for dining. The food is delicious and reasonably price. I will certainly come back to this place and recommend it to all my friends in Montréal.
google avatar

Wei L.

Yelp
One of best ramen in Downtown Montréal. The top reason I like it is the consistent quantity of food, which will never disappoints me. Besides, it has monthly special menu according to the season. Excellent choice for the comfort food in a snowy winter evening
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
This restaurant was one of a few opened tonight on Christmas Eve. Ordered the Age Gyoza, Yamitsuki Ramen with curry, Chicken Spicy Jalapeño Ramen, Kimchi, and hot tea. Ramen with the curry has a rich broth that was very flavorful. The Chicken Spicy Jalapeño is just that. Spicy, delicious, light and flavorful. Both bowls have a pig at the bottom to show that, well, you have reached Nirvana. The kimchi was cold, spicy, and had a delicious snap. The Gyoza, was an appetizer and was a plate of four fried ravioli type foods with a delicious sauce. Everything was fantastic.

Yelp
Love the place! My coworker and I were looking for a ramen place close to work and I remember seeing this place a couple of times but it was always packed during lunch time. This time we went around 6pm on a friday night and it was perfect! Not too many people, the service was fast and the ambiance is great! They had some old school RnB music playing! I love how spacious it is! It was awkward at first when they kept screaming when people would come in and leave. But you kind of get use to it. The food was really good! I wasn't sure how it works but I think you have to choose the soup base and then you choose your meat. Honestly, I just pointed the picture and said "I want this!" LOL! I was super hungry, what can I say... I was definitely happy with my meal. The noodles, the meat, the soup, everything was on point! I highly recommend to anyone who wants to try out ramen soup!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing ramen! Great service, quick and easy online. The soups were delicious! I love that they often have special limited time soups.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my first experience with Kinton Ramen. The service was speedy and friendly but the ramen was disappointing. I ordered the original ramen with thick noodles. It didn't arrive as hot as I'd like. The broth was sadly too oily but luckily not so salty. The noodles texture was great though, al denté and cooked perfectly. The egg was unfortunately a little overcooked. I would have enjoy the ramen with a little more veggies like a little corn or the black fungus that a lot of ramen places adds. They only serve scallions, nori, two sad thing pieces of pork, egg and noodles. I don't think I'll come back again.
google avatar

Pariya S.

Yelp
Went to this location tonight around 6pm, was greeted and sat right away. The restaurant wasn't packed (as it was a Sunday part of long weekend). We ordered 2 bowls of spicy pork garlic with thin noodle, karage, edamame and age corn. The noodle (4/5) was almost perfect. Broth was hot, garlicky and spicy, noodle was al dente but cha chu pork wasn't as flavorful as I was hoping for. It was cut like a bacon slices (long and thick). Surprisingly, the noodle didn't accompany with soft boil egg. Edamame (4/5)- was hot and topped with salt. Nothing else to write about. Age corn (4/5) was really good. Not sure what the sauce on it was but I enjoyed it very much. Karage (3/5) was just ok. Served with Japanese mayo (maybe) on the side. This is by far the best meal we have had in Montreal for the past week. Will be back again for sure.

David M.

Yelp
Make sure to bring government issued ID proof if you want to pass their vaccination passport firewall. Rude greeting.
google avatar

Helene M.

Yelp
Super delicious ramen all around! Their spicy pork garlic is the right amount of spicy, strong but not too strong with the right amount of saltiness, overall hands down a five star!!

Jojo C.

Yelp
Very good RAMEN .. staff was courteous and helpful.. highly recommended. Can't wait to come back..
google avatar

Paul A.

Yelp
I don't know how this place has this many stars. Anybody that had real authentic ramen knows this place is anything but authentic. Our server was nice though hence the two stars. Food wise, not so much. No thanks... pass.
google avatar

Oliver M.

Yelp
Ok so...this place blew my mind with the jalapeño ramen...I'll leave it at that. I'll definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Spicy pork ramen cleared up my congestion nixely, perfect for a cold February night. Had a 10 minute waa for a table foe the 4 of us, at 7 on a saturday, so no complaints! Yuzu hot toddy went down real smooth too.

Ben T.

Yelp
Service good, original ramen flavour, yes, food good, deserts good. What else can one ask. Service good too. You can choose from a variety of flavours, original, shoyu, Miso and spicy. There was even a limited Japanese curry flavoured broth. Mmmmm. Enjoy.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
This place was awesome. Very good ramen, and very friendly staff. They were running a good summer beer special on Sapporo as well. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Alyssa L.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised to find out we stumbled upon Kinton on their anniversary, so our bowls were only $5.18!! We ordered the original chicken and the original pork, and karaage. I loved my pork ramen, especially with the grated garlic. And the karaage was really good - wish they had a better sauce for it then basically mayo. Not too crowded, and all the servers were friendly.
google avatar

Lillian L.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy ramen. I didn't enjoy that much to be honest cause the pork was a little bit heavy to eat with the thick soup flavour.

Laura R.

Yelp
We ended up here as 3-4 sushi restaurants we were trying to eat at were closed. Glad we stopped by. Had sake for hubbers. I'm not eating carbs, so we ordered the basic pork with seasoned veggies and it came in a ramen bowl full of delicious broth. I appreciate them accommodating me. Waitress was very fast and cheerful.

Joneskimracing ..

Yelp
Loved their ramen. Very under rated ramen joint. Broth has depth and their noodles were perfect. Definitely going back.

Pete D.

Yelp
Stumbled across. Friendly service and great ramen. Did the special Karaage Spicy. Heat level was perfect, hot enough to sweat but not too much as to overtake the other flavors. The Yuzu tea was a great compliment.

Jeroen O.

Yelp
Japanese great flavors warm soup with noodles or cold combined with beef & multiple language very friendly waitress Leslie, we enjoyed with cocktails plus special cheesecake as desert was very nice!!
