The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsmans Rest

We recently stayed at The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsman’s Rest while visiting Northumbria, and it was a real highlight of our trip. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well thought out — the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring the area. Everything felt calm and cared for, which made our stay all the more enjoyable. Dinner was a standout. We opted for the Chef’s menu, and it was exceptional — beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and clearly made with great attention to detail. The wine pairing was also incredible and would highly recommend going for it. Each course felt special, and it was easily one of the best meals we had during our time in Northumbria. Overall, The Kirkstyle Inn offers a wonderful combination of excellent food, comfortable accommodation, and genuinely warm hospitality. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We booked The Kirkstyle Inn on Sunday 27th July for Sunday Lunch. We had previously been in March for my Birthday. Our first time was great ,with the Staff friendly and welcoming. Alex spent time telling us about his journey to work there which was nice. This time a different experience altogether. The Staff seemed a bit hesitant in our opinion. Maybe because the Owner was there as well.We Seemed a bit rushed into ordering firstly. The starter was Scallops for me.Which were nice but a small portion. The Roast Beef was just ok, quite tough to cut and a bit chewy. My Wife was going to ask for a Steak Knife but persovered with it. The Yorkshire was large and ok. Cauliflower Cheese was Crunchy in places. The Roast Potatoes seem quite dry inside. I said they were dryer than a Nuns Fanjita. My Wife thought no amount of Gravy would revive them. It was our 25th Anniversary treat as well, so well disappointed afterwards. Will not be returning,and hopefully find another Pub locally that is not as expensive as well.!.

A fabulous overnight stay in really comfortable surroundings, as it was a Wednesday in February the room was a little chilly when we arrived mid-afternoon ~ it was lovely and cosy later. The food was delicious in every respect; it's clear that the provenance and quality of ingredients underlies every dish. Service was excellent too, welcoming, friendly yet discreet.

⭐ 5/5 The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsmans Rest What an outstanding spot. The food was so good I briefly considered asking the chef to adopt me. Every dish looked like it belonged in a magazine and tasted even better. The room was top‑tier too — beautifully decorated, spotless, and so comfortable I started questioning why my own house doesn’t look this nice. Whoever designed it deserves a medal or at least a pint. The staff were genuinely lovely and put in so much effort that I felt like royalty… or at least someone who tidies up after themselves more often. Breakfast is an absolute must. The cured‑on‑site bacon should come with a warning label: “May ruin all other bacon for you.” Already planning my return trip.

Amazing stay in the most wonderful surroundings. Amazing views from the rooms and perfectly quiet in the mornings. The evenings get busy downstairs but at least it quietened down from around 11pm. We had the tasting menu and shared a wine flight. It was one of our standout meals for sometime. The chef, Callum came out to talk us through the ethos and how they’re trying to become more and more sustainable. We will certainly be back in the coming months, to explore the surrounding area.

Had a fantastic night away at The Kirkstyle Inn - everything was just as we hoped. The North Pennines is stunningly beautiful at any time of year and makes the perfect backdrop - the fact it’s accessible from the doorstep gives the venue a level of appeal that just couldn’t be replicated in any other setting. Beautifully presented room, thoughtfully decorated and equipped made the perfect retreat and the tasting menu and wine flight were truly exceptional - coupled with the passion and knowledge of the whole front of house team and their commitment to the locally sourced sourced waste free ethos makes the guest experience absolutely outstanding. The focus on customer service - attentive and available without ever being intrusive - along with our experience above make this one of the best getaways we can remember - we’ll definitely be back!

Overnight stay withh friends to enjoy a luxury dinner with fine wines. We were not disappointed! Comfortable and cosy bar with log fire for pre dinner drinks. Excellent dinner and wines - a very knowledgeable somelier which is always a plus.

This is an amazing hotel and restaurant offering fine dining in a very friendly and welcoming pub atmosphere. We stayed for three nights which included the 10 course tasting menu which was a superb dining experience. The sommelier, Alex also provided excellent advice with respect to our wine. The room was superb, very warm, well stocked and decorated with a wonderful view of the countryside. Overall we could not fault our stay and will most definitely return if we can. Thank you so much!
