⭐ 5/5 The Kirkstyle Inn & Sportsmans Rest What an outstanding spot. The food was so good I briefly considered asking the chef to adopt me. Every dish looked like it belonged in a magazine and tasted even better. The room was top‑tier too — beautifully decorated, spotless, and so comfortable I started questioning why my own house doesn’t look this nice. Whoever designed it deserves a medal or at least a pint. The staff were genuinely lovely and put in so much effort that I felt like royalty… or at least someone who tidies up after themselves more often. Breakfast is an absolute must. The cured‑on‑site bacon should come with a warning label: “May ruin all other bacon for you.” Already planning my return trip.

Amazing stay in the most wonderful surroundings. Amazing views from the rooms and perfectly quiet in the mornings. The evenings get busy downstairs but at least it quietened down from around 11pm. We had the tasting menu and shared a wine flight. It was one of our standout meals for sometime. The chef, Callum came out to talk us through the ethos and how they’re trying to become more and more sustainable. We will certainly be back in the coming months, to explore the surrounding area.

We loved our NYE stay at Burnstone Cottage which is a new addition to The Kirkstyle Inn. It is a beautiful four bedroom house with a very stylish fit out. We enjoyed the 10 course dinner at the pub and the food was all divine. Couldn’t recommend more highly!

I visited The Kirkstyle Inn and Sportsman’s Rest, Slaggyford (CA8 7PB) and found the staff to be genuinely friendly and pleasant throughout. Unfortunately, there were several errors with our orders and, while each one on its own might have been minor, the accumulation became quite frustrating — especially given the establishment’s Michelin status and the expectations that come with it. The food itself was ok, but nothing that really justified the hefty price tag. Overall, a welcoming team, but the experience didn’t quite match the premium positioning or the cost.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Kirkstyle enjoying the local area and all the amazing amenities. Our room was exquisitely furnished. The attention to detail was fabulous right down to a little reminder about the clocks changing. The food was a real treat, delicious and all locally sourced. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive in helping us maximise our time in Northumbria. Thank you.

This is an amazing hotel and restaurant offering fine dining in a very friendly and welcoming pub atmosphere. We stayed for three nights which included the 10 course tasting menu which was a superb dining experience. The sommelier, Alex also provided excellent advice with respect to our wine. The room was superb, very warm, well stocked and decorated with a wonderful view of the countryside. Overall we could not fault our stay and will most definitely return if we can. Thank you so much!

Fabulous stay at this great spot. I took the DB&B package and stayed with my dog. The room was superb and the dinner was off the Richter scale. Two small points I would raise is that dog beds should be provided in their luxurious rooms and a provision should be made for a light lunch for those arriving for dinner. The location is very remote and I’m quite sure customers will just want to walk and hang out either in the bar or their room. The staff were uniformly great.

Excellent spot to relax, enjoy a drink and feast in the taster menu. We stayed in the South Tyne room with lovely views across the river. Room was immaculate and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed the tasting menu and wine flight. Food was really good, well presented and served with a smile by very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Wine flight picked by Alex was lovely as well and Alex was his usual charming helpful self. It was great to see him again. Nice breakfast in the morning before a special drive home over some stunning roads.
