The Best Asian Dessert Spots In SF

"The Richmond Japanese dessert cafe (with another location in Chinatown) serves creamy soft serve thick enough you could probably shave with it. A large portion of their menu is dedicated to solid tea and coffee-based lattes, but if you’ve left without ice cream, you’ve entirely missed the point. There’s a small selection at Kiss of Matcha with just three flavors (and no swirls), but there’s no going wrong. And for those who’d like more than a waffle cone, opt for a soft serve sundae, which comes in a tall plastic cup layered with cornflakes, matcha cake bites, and two types of mochi." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, ricky rodriguez

The Best Soft Serve In San Francisco

"The high-quality matcha soft serve at Kiss Of Matcha in the Richmond is thick enough to hold upside down. It’s a wonderful gravitational feat, pulled off by one of our favorite soft serves in the city. Get here after dinner nearby—or anytime not-too-sweet dessert calls—for a cup of this creamy perfection. Their Kiss Of Matcha parfait arrives dripping with sticky matcha syrup and decorated with mochi, brown sugar jelly, and a croffle. This counter-service spot is tiny—like, walk across the entire space in five steps tiny—but you’re here to inhale every last bit of ice cream at rapid speed, and not to kick up your feet and stay for hours." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong

Cute little spot, took a minute for me to realize the cashier is self serve. They make the matcha right in front of you on the counter which is cool to watch the process. I had never tried matcha before really and I did find it a little bitter but I ultimately enjoyed the flavor in the swirl cone albeit could use a bit more sweetness.

Was recommended to check this place out after a wedding nearby. Came here on a Friday afternoon and it’s a small little store very Japanese style and traditional. You can order via kiosk and there’s only about 1 or 2 people working. I was reading the reviews and had a hard time deciding on what to get. It was between the Espresso Matcha Latte (recommended on their physical menu) and the hojicha tea. I wish I tried the hojicha tea just because it’s different. I’m don’t know too much about matcha but it wasn’t bad! There’s street parking but it’s also in a pretty busy area. There’s some seating inside and a bench outside.

Got the matcha parfait with mix matcha/vanilla ice cream! It was soo good and loved that you could actually taste the real matcha bitterness. 10/10 would recommend for a quick treat/drink!

🎤🎶 *Oh baby, Kiss of Matcha’s got me feelin’ some kinda way!* 🎶🎤 From the first step inside, it was like *I Want It Matcha Way!* The vibes are smooth, the beats are sweet, and the matcha—*oh, the matcha*—it’s got all the flavor you’ve been dreamin’ of. When I tasted that matcha soft serve, it was like a love song in my mouth—so creamy, so dreamy, just the right mix of sweet and matcha heat. And then, *bam*, the matcha lava cake hit me like a *Teenage Dream*—rich, warm, and melt-in-your-mouth good. It’s like they knew exactly what I needed. The crew here? They’re like the perfect harmony, always there to help you find your matcha match. They’ve got the moves, the knowledge, and they’re all about making sure you’re vibin’ with every bite. So if you’re lookin’ for a dessert spot that’s got it all—flavor, style, and that *special something*—Kiss of Matcha is *the one.* You know I’m comin’ back for more, baby!

TLDR: gotta get it to go cause there’s really no place to stand, ice cream is decent but not sweet enough We got the swirl ice cream from a worker who really looked like he wanted to close early. The cone it comes with is definitely nicer than a sugar cone. The soft serve had a nice consistency but I wanted a bit more sweetness from it, it didn’t taste very flavorful though it’s ice cream

My new favorite matcha shop. I had the parfait and the strawberry sundae. Ice cream has excellent matcha flavor and slight sweetness. Mochi is so soft and chewy. Red bean was a good consistency and sweetness. Croffle was buttery too. The only thing I didn't like was the small piece of cake embedded inside (too dry/dense, would have been better just omitting it). The flavor of their strawberry sundae is also good. The strawberry sauce tastes homemade. Looking forward to trying their hojicha and matcha latte next time :)

Delicious matcha, 10/10! However, the inside is quite small with limited seating. If you’re looking to hang out or need more space, I’d recommend going to the other location. This spot is more suited for a quick grab-and-go.

I got a matcha almond milk latte w/ boba, it was really good. There’s a soft hint of vanilla to it. I will say we (my friend and I) didn’t like the Osaka style dish, I think it’s just an acquired taste. The waffle is softer than we expected and the flavors were new for us. Always try new things! I would recommend giving it a try for yourself. The service was also great and fast. You can order up front or on the screen.
