Kitchen + Kocktails is a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful establishment. From the moment you walk in, the ambiance is warm, welcoming, and visually stunning. The atmosphere alone sets high expectations for the experience.
Our server, Ky, was truly amazing. Considering everything she had to manage that night, she was exceptional. She remained attentive, kind, and professional throughout and genuinely tried her best to make things right.
Taste-wise, the food was pretty good overall. I also ordered the fried green tomatoes. While what came out did not visually match the picture shown on the menu and wasn’t as beautiful presentation-wise, the dish did taste really good, so I’ll absolutely give credit for flavor.
Unfortunately, there were some disappointments that affected the overall experience. I ordered the seafood gumbo, and it arrived with no seafood at all. After sending it back once and receiving the same result again, I ultimately switched to the jerk chicken. Even on the second attempt, the gumbo only had a single crab leg sticking out—no shrimp, no crab claws, and nothing else mentioned in the menu description. That was especially frustrating given how hard our wonderful server worked to try to get it corrected.
Dessert didn’t quite land either. I ordered the peach cobbler, which should have been served warm so the ice cream on top could melt, but it wasn’t warm at all. At that point, I knew it just wasn’t my night—period.
What did make the night enjoyable was the live music. A saxophonist was performing who happens to be a really great friend of mine, and I had no idea he would be there. His performance was excellent and truly helped balance out some of the disappointments, making the evening more enjoyable.
Overall, I would still recommend this establishment and would be open to visiting again, hopefully with a better experience that aligns with the price point. Being a bit more mindful with my order next time may help, but consistency in execution is important.
All in all, it was a wonderful evening spent with my sister, and I’m glad we went out and tried this restaurant. I’ll give Kitchen & Cocktails another try, hoping for a smoother experience next time.
