The Best Restaurants in Sausalito | Eater SF

"Lisa is serving and her mother is in the kitchen at this homey restaurant where loyal locals are on a first-name basis. For more than two decades, home-cooked Thai food and Asian-influenced dishes have earned accolades from Kitti’s Place admirers. Tucked away in a strip mall at the northern end of town, friendly customer service means a warm greeting from Lisa’s father, Kitti, and a complimentary bowl of soup while you wait." - Dianne de Guzman

Google
So incredibly pleased with our experience at this restaurant. From the service to the food everything was perfect. We came in when they were only doing take out, which we said we were more than okay to do, but they insisted to set up a table for us. We got the Thai iced tea, salad rolls, pot stickers, pho, and egg noodle dish. Each was so incredible, and some of the best of the dishes Ive tried. Portion sizes were massive, a great price for what you get. Our drinks were refilled as soon as they were close to empty, and we were given any sauce we could’ve needed, the service was so quick. The staff was so friendly would highly recommend, a hidden gem:)

Google
An absolute gem! The food here is nothing short of divine, bursting with flavor and clearly made with care. We sat on the sunny outdoor patio, which was the perfect setting for a leisurely lunch. The staff are incredibly kind and attentive, adding to the warm, welcoming vibe. We ordered the Pad Thai and Green Curry both were balanced and satisfying. A chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc rounded out the meal perfectly. Can’t wait to come back!

This place is a real gem. The chicken potstickers are divine and all of the rice noodle dishes are amazing. You have to try them!

We just flew in from Atlanta and driving around. We found d this great little restaurant…Kitty’s Place. Wow what a find! Great found, friendly staff and fantastic service. We will ways eat here when in the area!

Google
I would give ten stars to service if I could. My sister and I walked up around 5, we didn't know they switch to only takeout after 4:30pm, but the family owners were so nice. They offered to put a table up outside for us, gave us ice water and the most delicious complimentary carrot and ginger soup I've ever had. They gave us extra rice at checkout too. Everyone was so sweet! Past that, the food was delicious we ordered Pad Thai, Potstickers, and Ga Prow Kai Dow. The sauce with the Potstickers was so delicious!! And the Potstickers themselves were packed full and tender. My sister loved her pad Thai and the sauce in my Ga Prow was heavenly. I wish I lived here so I could eat here every day!!

Google
Generous portions and it felt like we were enjoying home cooked, family style recipes. Definitely worth a stop to support this local favorite!

Yelp
Wonderful grilled salmon with Thai red sauce. The outdoor patio was very pleasant on this sunny day. Great Thai iced tea. And excellent Prik Nam Pla freshly made. Not overly hot but great pungent herbs and mildly picante peppers.

Yelp
Craving Tom Ka, I walked in after work around 5pm on Friday and they were getting ready to close (they close at 6pm) but the lady who took my order was very kind and the establishment gave me the feeling that this is a casual but nice family business. I ordered a Tom Ka with tofu to go and she sweetly replied that it will be ready in 15 minutes so I went strolling around the small shopping center. After 10 minutes, my soup was ready early! Once I got home (15 minutes later) and opened it, it was still pipping hot which was a pleasant surprise. I guess I expected the soup to get a little cold on the way home but it was hot like it had just come off the stove, and it smelled amazing. My soup was well-seasoned and absolutely delicious, it hit the craving-Tom-Ka spot! I will definitely be going back with friends and family. Thank you, Kitti!

Yelp
I had a wonderful lunch here with a friend, and will be going back. The food is excellent, and the service was great also. This is an inexpensive place, not fancy. Spring rolls and Pad Kee Mow were both very tasty, and be aware the dishes can be spicy. I thought the seasoning was just perfect, hot enough to get my attention but no so much that my brow broke a sweat. Green tea is good, and fairly strong, so beware if you are sensitive to caffeine. I also had a glass of sauvignon blanc, which was perfectly nice but nothing exceptional. My friend had the chinese chicken salad, and it looked very good. Strongly recommended. I'll be back soon!

Yelp
The food is always fresh and delicious! I like sitting outside with my little dog, listening to the pretty fountain. They even offer chicken or rice for my dog! I don't think the pad Thai and other Asian inspired dishes can be beat in Marin. And, of course, this is where the amazing Chinese Chicken Salad was invented in Marin! Cheers!

Yelp
Was looking for a lunch spot after our trip to the Bay Area discovery museum and we wanted to try this place out. We're so glad we came here! It's a very low key place, but the food and service are amazing. We were seated outside and we were a big group so they prepared the tables for us. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. They anticipated our needs and even gave us some complimentary egg and spinach soup. We ordered pad see ew with shrimp and Tom yum soup with tofu. Both so delicious!! The rest of my family enjoyed their meals as well. It was such a pleasant experience. I would definitely come back again whenever we're in the area.

Yelp
Service was steller, food was great. You sit outside or take it to go. Great stop before you hit the city. The potstickers were fantastic!

Din K.

Yelp
Oh my god stopped on the way to Sausalito and was a bit skeptical at first but the food IS SO GOOD it's all homemade from the looks of it and it tastes amazing the potstickers were the best I ever had and the pho was nice and flavorful. I would come back 100 more times.

Yelp
Amazing food. We arrived around 3 PM and the place was closed, but they served us food outside. The chef came out to speak to us. Everything we had was delicious. The Tom Kha was outstanding, so were the lettuce wraps! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Philip K.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming to Kitti's for decades, and after moving away I recently rediscovered its amazing food and friendly staff. Lisa and her family are so welcoming, and the food cannot be beat. Every time I come I order the Tom Kha - by far the best I have had anywhere in the US. Their salads and specialty dishes are incredible as well.

Yelp
I walked in to a friendly staff that guided me to a chicken salad and chicken pot stickers. These were the best potstickers I've had in a long time and the sauce was so good I wanted to drink it. If anywhere around this place , it's a must stop by and enjoy.

Michelle C.

Yelp
Ok so there's little to the atmosphere but it's some of the best Thai food around outside Thailand.
google avatar

Aaron P.

Yelp
We arrived late and they were closing for lunch. But they accepted us as their last customers for lunch. They treated us like family. We were exhausted from our hike from the Marin Headlands and they made sure we had plenty of ice water and Thai ice tea. I love their curry fried rice with beef and it has a generous amount of protein. I couldn't be more thankful for their generosity and time. I am definitely coming back here with my family again. Thank you so much!

Yelp
First time and loved the chicken lettuce cups and pho. I can't wait to come back for more!

Yelp
What a delightful find! Just moved to the area, walked in and were SO warmly greeted by Juan, Lisa and her Mom aka " Mama" who have owned and worked in this restaurant for more than 30 years Wow. They surprised us with spring rolls while we waited (so nice of them!) They were delicious and we both had the Tom Yum soup which was perfectly spiced and full of flavor. We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Great personable service and delicious food. Complimentary carrot ginger soup was a nice touch too. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Stumbled on this place for take out and loved it! Great ingredients, high quality food, good prices.

Yelp
Kitti's place is your not so secret Thai food destination that all the locals are super hush hush about. The reason is, this place is AMAZING and gets full for lunch very quickly! Lisa and Kitti run this restaurant with soo much ease and caters to all diets! Want to sub something in the dish you want? No problem for the kitchen and that's what I call SERVICE. Every time I come here I get something different. Everyday they change their specials menu and more likely than usual I get something off that menu but when I want something that I've already been craving my go-to is the Lettuce Cups with crispy noodles, chicken, jicama, and plum sauce. Great appetizer option, pretty much guilt free and wont fill you up too much. The house made chicken pot stickers are also to die for, and very saucy if your that type of person. My favorite of all is the Pad See Iw and I like to add beef to it. Delicious black bean sauce tops the house made rice noodles and broccoli. So comforting and absolutely delicious! Make Kitti's Place your lunch destination in Sausalito! Authentic Thai flavors will entice your palate every single time.

Karen S.

Yelp
Kitti's is the very best family-owned restaurant in Sausalito. Staff is wonderful. A true gem off the beaten path.

Derek J.

Yelp
Love the pad Thai here. Portions are generous. Service is always friendly. Note they close early (6?), but take out is great.

Yelp
I always forget to come here!! And it's SO good, fresh & Mom and Pop and daughter business! What particularly? Well, particularly every thing but really this time was all about the Pad See Ew! I have one place in NY that is my favorite that I am always seeing if anyone can match it, today I couldn't stop eating it! They brought me a sweet Birthday plate of cakes and coconut ice cream and I just kept eating the Pad See Ew or Iw as it it spelled here. The noodles and Veggies were so good! (I am a savory person) This place is really totally flexible, if you get the lettuce cups with a friend and (comes with 3) they can make it 4 and make the protein whatever each person wants. Next time I would order a less saucy lettuce cups as I am used to the more dry flavor of protein, I love the crunch they put in with Chinese noodles and jicama instead of Chestnut? It was so clever. & delicious. Or if you just want a sandwich..I have yet to reach this point as you will crave some yummy Thai, but I dream of ordering a sandwich from here, they will make you a sandwich. Goals!! The Pad Thai is so good here too and the Dad,Kitti who makes the best Chinese Chicken Salad In Marin- has his own version of the "famous Comforts" salad. You must try HIS version. See, you need to try a lot of things.. well I still do. I took a menu with me today as I am gonna make the effort to order everything from here eventually. The Lunch hours are 11:30-3pm M-F and Take Out Only for dinner 5-7pm closed Sat & Sun. I'm gonna squeeze in some lunches and get some dinners for the Fam and I will update. The best is sitting out on the Sunny Outdoors among the plants and water feature and a Thai Iced Tea (not too sweet)- and bring a friend or come alone!

Justin F.

Yelp
Avoid this place at all costs. -Rude waiters/Owner (They treat certain customers differently, so don't be fooled by the smiles) -Always seems annoyed and looks at you like you're stupid when you have a question about the menu (The items arent even fusion or authentic) -Food is bland with no flavor! How can you mess up stir fry noodles?!? -Make sure you wear non slip shoes! I almost slipped at this restaurant If you want real asian food, just look elsewhere. This is a tourist trap joint!

Steve F.

Yelp
Meh. Pot stickers were nicely browned on one side, doughy/raw on the other. Filling was like paste. Tom Ka Gai taste was ok, but not a lot of filling.

Yelp
i LOVE this establishment!!! Not only is the food always consistently delicious this establishment is so heart forward and hard working. I've always been welcomed, I've always had scrumptious flavors, and, in fact, I have also often been gifted a tasty little treat ~ I am a small business owner in the Sausalito community so I appreciate and respect the hard work and love this family puts into their flavors. To those who have written one or two stars reviews I'm guessing you maybe either came in with an attitude or forgot your manners?

Yelp
One of the best Pho I ever had in Marin County. Local, clean and very friendly/ dog friendly restaurant in Sausalito. If you are with your dog, you can site outside and enjoy your food and no need to keep your dog inside the car. Food was very fresh and delicious. Fair price and good customer service. Highly recommended!

Jan L.

Yelp
Kitti's place is a secret gem serving authentic organic Thai food. Truly the best Thai in Marin. The family that owns and runs it is darling. Always a pleasant welcoming experience!

Jeannie T.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place was not as good as it use to be. I stopped over for lunch yesterday to have pad Thai, red curry and Tom yum soup. The waiter was in a rush and didn't get the soup order right and rather than having the soup come out first it came out with the rest of the entrees. Lastly the pad Thai noodles was over cooked and red curry need to be simmered longer. Perhaps it was a off day. I will not be returning, there are too many Thai places in Marin that is delicious.

L. L.

Yelp
We feel the food was very salty and prices were high. Service was fine though. Ambiance could've been better.

Yelp
They're now open for takeout from noon to 6 pm, Monday-Friday. I've always found their food to be really good, and always wonder why it took me so long to go back. This afternoon I picked up an order of their Pad Kee Mow ($15), the same item as in my original review. I love this! The first pic is the order in the takeout container. What you can't see is that it weighs 2 1/2 pounds! The second pic is of my dinner plate where I served myself 1/3 of the order. It came with a small container of soup; I didn't ask what kind. I'll guess it's pumpkin with lots of spices. I loved that too.

J G.

Yelp
This is my go-to for late weekday lunches. Great family. Open in the afternoon. Flavorful, fresh, and nutritious.

Liya L.

Yelp
Delicious food, literally everything I've tried is so flavorful and fresh. Generous portions. And also, the service is excellent. I love seeing and speaking with Lisa and Mama! They're the best thank you

Yelp
We stopped here by accident after a 375 mile drive up the coast, thinking it was a American diner style cafe. Nope - Asian fusion. Ordered the curry turkey burger and veal pineapple fried rice. Just wow! My son described the burger as one of the best he ever had, and both of wolfed down the rice and veal. This place is a hidden gem. Service was also wonderful.

Roger M.

Yelp
The food is not so good here to put up with the appalling customer service. You would have to go a long way to find a server who had less interest in their job or respect for the customer than here. Make your day happier by eating somewhere else.

Yelp
No papaya salad!!! Omgosh!! That's the main reason for going to Thai restaurants, we're visiting from San Diego, this is not a a formal restaurant, it's more like a fast food place. You order at counter, and they'll bring to you, they have beer though, menu is a bit limited. We ordered about 5-6 different items and all were actually great, several different soups, pad Thais and coconut soup, oh and a "pho", and as appetizer, we ordered the "lettuce cups" they were great, it was 7 of us, each lettuce cup order is a three item order, they were awesome and added two bonus cups for a total of 8 cups!! 4 ordered the Thai tea, they were actually pretty strong, but the 3 kids enjoyed them, the service here was awesome and made an additional pitcher watered down with coconut something, either "milk" or water, we were absolutely catered to. It's a little mini strip mall place but worth coming to. We enjoyed our visit.

Maile T.

Yelp
I love Thai food and try it whenever I travel. This place is by far the best Thai food I have ever had. So amazingly good.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want the best spring roll, bowl of wonton soup, or pad Thai come eat here! I live in Monterey and stop by every time I pass Sausalito to visit this family run place. Mom, Dad and daughter cook and they put love into the food. Set in the cozy street side patio or inside for lunch or take out some warm sauté to enjoy at home, either way you won't be disappointed with this authentic down home yet elegant place.
google avatar

Maria H.

Yelp
Service was odd, we came in and it was take out only. They seemed a bit annoyed we came to order food and contribute to the success of their business? They were out of flat noodles which was a bit annoying. BUT nonetheless the food was great, wonton soup was delicious, the Pho was good enough and the salmon was delicious. We'd go back! We'd also recommend for an easy meal on a lazy night.

Nancy G.

Yelp
Great food and service. Kitty's is a gem!! The lettuce cups and chicken salad are my favorites.

Linh Khanh D.

Yelp
We came here around 1:30 ish and the place wasn't too busy. We wanted a table outside for 5 people and the waiter set it up pretty well. The food was okay. Price is ok ok ish. There's bad reviews about customer service here but the servers are actually very nice. There's one lady with the "resting bitch face" but she's actually not bitchy at all. They seemed like nice people. They even gave us free lychee fruits as dessert. 4.5/5

calichick 2.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch last week. Owner was rude. Service as poor. Expected authentic Thai cuisine. Got poorly conceived Americanized copies. What a disappointment.

Joe B.

Yelp
We love Kitti's for takeout. Delicious food and always friendly service. Our go to dishes include shrimp Pad Thai and any of the noodle options. Yummy soup, chicken satay, shrimp rolls and inventive specials. You can't go wrong.

C H.

Yelp
There's really only two things to know about Kitti's place: 1) the food is pretty good 2) the owner/chef is an unhappy person who is not pleasant -- at all -- to customers. I've been a few times and she's always curt, rude, and acts like she's doing you a favor. Times are tough and I understand the stress, but there's equally good Thai food in the area without the attitude.

Lanae P.

Yelp
At first, I was excited to try my favorite soup from this new place I came across while visiting the area. After picking up my order of Tom Yum soup (main ingredient being mushroom) I ended up ordering from a different Thai restaurant to satisfy my craving because the Tom Yum I ordered from Kitti's place came without the main ingredient-the mushroom. There was a heap of veggies that I appreciated but without the mushrooms I'm thinking "what's the point?" Not sure if I'd ever try this place again. There's nothing worse than being disappointed in the process of trying to satisfy a craving.

Tracey A.

Yelp
At nearby Fish there was a line 3-persons wide extending far past the front entrance. Are they dropping tour buses there or what? So, we hoofed it until we found Kitti's, with an outside patio (like Fish) but without the bay-side ambience or prices. Kitti's outside patio is in front of the restaurant, abutting a parking lot. Chairs are plastic and tables are covered with oil-cloth throws; it's very casual but clean, not dive-y. The menu skews towards Asian/fusion but has all sorts of other things in there to throw you off balance. We led with fresh spring rolls, I had a Chinese Chicken Salad ($10), and my friend had Fish Tacos. See, what are fish tacos doing on an Asian/fusion menu? Still, all things sampled were tasty enough and it was nice to be able to enjoy it outside in the sunshine after a big hike. Others have remarked that this Chinese Chicken Salad is very similar to that which Comforts (San Anselmo) is renowned for and they are correct. It is remarkably similar. The rest of the food was good, like the salad, but nothing that had me jumping up and down. We finished and walked back to our car and those suckers were still lined up at Fish, waiting. Sometimes you just want to eat lunch NOW; Kitti's was the perfect solution.
google avatar

Lining S.

Yelp
It's the worst pho I ever had. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. And the store looks not too neat to stay.
google avatar

Kim L.

Yelp
Awesome pho - the best in Marin. And this is coming from a Vietnamese. Nice family business as well
google avatar

Susila G.

Yelp
One of the best Thai places I have ever been too. Very authentic and perfect spice level.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
We got take out from here and it was great! First of all, the food was excellent. Spring rolls, green curry and pad Thai. Second, they were super friendly. I was offered a complimentary cup of soup while I waited for my order. Third, a stream of locals came in to pick up their take-out, and the owner/manager knew all of them and asked after their families and had pleasant local small-talk. For me, this was the icing on the cake; a caring proprietor and clientele who know and care about each other. And, from the 6-7 people who came in during the 10+ minutes I waited, this is a great testament to this restaurant. Would go back in an instant.
google avatar

Philip C.

Yelp
This place has the best customer service in all of Marin if your looking for amazing quality food then stop in!
