It's been three years since I reviewed this place, been nearly a year since I was last here so it's time for a fresh look.
What brought us here today was their posting about their contributing $1 for each meal sold to Jason Porter who has just passed away and has 3 children, the youngest is 8 months old. A neighbor was friends with this young man and she is very sad. Kitty's is also accepting donations so we are here to support the efforts that Kitty's has made possible today for this family, prayers for them too.
Now let's talk about Kitty's, the place hasn't changed over the years and is still a local favorite that offers breakfast and lunch. They also have a full bar so getting that Bloody Mary or Mimosa with your breakfast is available. Most of what I wrote about in my first review remains the same however the service and food has changed and not for the better.
There's a greeter at the door who seats you and gets you a drink and our server showed up to take our order. The food comes out quickly from someone in the kitchen, there's a sense of being very busy but that's something that they are accustomed to. Aside from the absence of the friendly hometown feel the food was just way off. I had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, cole slaw & corn bread muffin. All of it was super bland and the thin chicken patty was too greasy. My wife had the garden omelet with grits and rye toast, she also complained of a greasy omelet with no cheese inside. It's unfortunate that I have to drop a couple stars but I wouldn't return for bland and greasy food despite the fun atmosphere and reasonable prices.
Bottom line: I'm going to wait a while to give these guys another chance to get their focus on the food where it should be.
