19 Best Hotels in Midtown Manhattan

"At first glance, it's easy to assume that Kixby's best feature is its location, just one block north of the Empire State Building. But once you look closer, you'll find an understated yet elegant hotel—one that, despite opening its doors in 2020, already holds a flame to its more storied Midtown counterparts. The 195 rooms feature the hotel's signature “Kixby Blue” (almost periwinkle) walls and marble bathrooms. All guests can take advantage of the Lot 15 Bar, helmed by renowned mixologist Cameron Shaw, the Lookup rooftop bar (don't worry, there are Empire views), and the hotel's own outpost of Black Tap, home of those decked-out milkshakes. You'll be surprised how intimate and sincere your stay is—especially considering the hustle of tourists and Macy's-goers passing by the doors."

Fantastic hotel, fantastic staff, always have a smile for you ask how you are. Stayed for 5 nights. Room was great, expected street noise but slept like a baby. Water bottle was appreciated as was the fruit and biscuits which were available everyday. Thank you for the birthday chocolates for my son, lovely touch. Will certainly stay here on my next trip.

I was so impressed by the Kixby! I have stayed at many hotels in New York City and this is my favorite. The staff is very professional, friendly, and helpful. It’s centrally located near most of the major subway lines so easy to get around along with a variety of food options.||My room was clean, spacious, and everything was organized very well. I especially enjoyed the 2nd floor facilities where I could grab coffee, snacks, water and other items. The cappuccino came in handy while I was working as it gave me that boost.||I liked it so much that I booked another reservation for July. I would highly recommend!

Excellent location. Considering you're in the heart of NYC, it's quiet .|Lovely modern rooms with everything you need. Love the idea of the fridge and tea /coffee machine.|The complimentary coffee and water room on the 2nd floor is wonderful. You can make use of your free water bottle. |Lovely rooftop bar .|Lovely staff.|Would definitely return

Had a three night stay at the Kixby at the end of June. Hotel staff are very friendly and check in was quick and easy. We had room 1210 which is opposite the lift and on the same floor as the rooftop bar. There was limited noise from this but if you have smaller children or are a light sleeper this probably isn’t the room for you. The room itself was lovely with everything you need. The bed is a good size and very comfortable. Air conditioning was excellent although very noisy. Bathrooms are small but have everything needed. We had a small problem with the shampoo (had two shower gels instead of a shampoo) but this was fixed very quickly. The location of the hotel is excellent with a subway stop at the end of the street. The F train will take you up or down town. All in all we absolutely loved it here and would stay again.

Google
Room was clean, quiet, and more spacious than I was expecting. Bathroom was also very clean. Water pressure was amazing and the body wash provided by the hotel was great. Great location. Great staff, always welcoming at the door and more than happy to help with bags, directions, taxi, or questions. Other guests were super nice. Overall great experience and atmosphere. We will definitely stay again!

Google
Excellent location for exploring New York. You are right between the Empire State and Times Square. Hotel was nice. Impressive views of the Empire State from the roof terrace. The rooms were very good, just a little on the small size. Breakfast was disappointing. It was a buffet and it had the selection of muffins and bread, and a bit of fruit. But it was served in paper plates in a very dark room. I wouldn’t take the breakfast option. Lots of other places nearby to get a decent breakfast. The burger bar downstairs was amazing in contrast. I’d happily stay there again.

All in all an amazing hotel. Location is perfect right in the heart of Manhattan near Penn Station, Broadway Theaters, restaurants, shopping, etc and a subway station is legit right down the block from entrance. Staff is kind and professional, rooms are clean and spacious. There is an attached bar in the lobby as well a rooftop bar that has a great view of the Empire State Building. The 2nd floor has a gym, free water, coffee, and small snacks, and a computer with a printer. Amazing hotel!!!!

Google
Absolutely loved our stay at the Kixby Hotel! The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. The rooms were spacious, beautifully designed, and spotlessly clean. The location is unbeatable, just off 5th Ave and steps away from iconic attractions like the Empire State Building and Herald Square. To top it off, they surprised us with a complimentary bottle of champagne for my wife’s birthday, which was such a thoughtful touch. Highly recommend for anyone visiting NYC!"

Yelp
We stayed here in a King Bedroom over a weekend and it was a pleasant experience. First of all, the location is amazing; everything is in a walking distance. You walk fir literally 2 minutes and you get to the subway station. Macy's is very close; lots of food options; Korean food options right beside the hotel and many famous bagel shops at a walking distance. The staff are very friendly and helpful; they even changed our $100 bills for us. Rooms are typical NYC style; small, but clean and they have provided you with everything you need; shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, hair dryer, iron, enough hangers in the closet. It's also quiet and comfortable. There's a rooftop bar, that's open during patio season. I definitely recommend staying here.

Yelp
Fantastic hotel, amazing location. Had a wonderfully comfortable, spacious room. Loved the roof top patio with insta-worthy views of the Empire State Building. Steps from Herald Square, a block from Tonchin. Absolutley will stay there again.

Yelp
Stayed February 2024. This is not a 4-star hotel. Pros: The location is excellent. There are tons of delicious restaurants around. The subway is close by. The beds are comfortable. Most of the staff is very friendly. Our room was a nice size for Manhattan. There's a cool patio where you can see the Empire State Building up close. Cons: It doesn't have many services expected of a 4-star hotel. If you are a light sleeper do not stay here. The rooms don't have blackout curtains like all other hotels and it's extremely loud. Even with earplugs and wearing an eye cover, it was difficult to sleep. The bar area was always dirty and twice bar employees were occupying several stools at the bar. Room service is not available, we ordered Uber Eats a couple of times and the front desk wouldn't let them come up to our room even when they said they would. I called previous to arriving inquiring about a workout room and was told there wasn't one but they had a partnership with a gym down the street. But they did have a workout room, unfortunately, I hadn't packed workout clothes because of what I was told. You have to go to the 2nd floor to get water and coffee. They had a very nice coffee machine but it's only available after 1:00 pm not in the morning when most people would enjoy it. The Kureg cups they use are not tasty so perhaps buy your own. In short, for a short work trip, it's a good option, I just wish the rooms had curtains to block the light and sound, they trained their employees better so they don't provide so much conflicting information, and that room service was available.

Yelp
The front desk staff is friendly. The rooms are clean, with new laminate floors, high ceilings and a pretty big space for a Manhattan hotel. It's a good, solid room in a safe-feeling neighborhood, and is close to 42nd Street and Midtown attractions like the NY Public Library, Bryant Park and more! There's a small, cozy rooftop bar called the Look Up which is a good space to rest in between sightseeing. I like the hotel but don't love it. It certainly has everything you need to have a clean, comfortable stay in NY, without any luxuries.

Yelp
+++++++++++++++++++++++++ O V E R A L L +++++++++++++++++++++++++ I liked this place, it is right next to a subway station. The location is great! It is newly renovated so it feels very modern and clean. The best part: the price was actually reasonable! +++++++++++++++++++++++++ A M B I A N C E +++++++++++++++++++++++++ There is a nice lobby with SUPER high ceilings. There are four couches which often have people there, waiting for their luggage or something. The stairways are really narrow and steep, just warning you. But taking the stairs is often faster than the elevator, depending on what floor you stay on hahaha. The hallways are a little dark, the accent colors are dark. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ F R O N T D E S K +++++++++++++++++++++++++ It was a small open reception desk. They are really sweet here! Very helpful! They explained every amenity very clearly! +++++++++++++++++++++++++ R O O M +++++++++++++++++++++++++ // Bedroom There is a long table combined with desk and a swivel desk chair. On the table there was a coffee station with pods and cups. There is a closet with bathrobes and an umbrella for you to use if you need it. There was also an arm chair with a small table. Two nightstands flanking the bed. The bed was comfortable. The room felt light and open maybe a little cold because there is no carpet it was wood floor. // Bathroom This is a narrow bathroom, but well appointed! I love how many towels they gave us, more than enough! It was a basic shower, no tub. +++++++++++++++++++++++++ A M E N I T I E S +++++++++++++++++++++++++ // Gym There is a gym but you have to ask the front desk to open it for you and it is on the second floor. // Continental Breakfast There is also a room on the second floor with free continental breakfast that includes coffee and tea and orange juice and snacks like granola bars, fruit, muffins. It is a grab and go situation because there is nowhere to sit. Once the time for breakfast is over, the room becomes a coffee and tea station. But I was in here when the breakfast time was over and no one came in to do anything so I guess it is really flexible. Who knows how long the coffee sits there but the hot water is appreciated! // Rooftop Bar I am sad I didn't go to the rooftop bar it sounded beautiful and even though the bar is closed the roof is open. Missed opportunity! Next time I am in NY!

Yelp
AWFUL! Worst customer service. I requested more information on parking, they never replied. I tried to cancel my reservation before my stay, because parking was really important to me. They refused to even try to help me because the "reservations team" wasn't on site. It was impossible getting in contact with the so-called reservation team. They charged me despite my attempts to cancel under the claim that I was a No-show, completely gaslighting me.

Yelp
Kixby is my choice hotel when traveling to NYC for business! I always look forward to my stay and it's become my NY home away from home.

Yelp
Checked in on a Friday evening. The check in was quick and easy. We were given an upgrade to a different room which was nice. Our room had 2 queen size beds and a huge bathroom. Also it had a large safe, and a refrigerator. The room appeared to be recently updated and very clean. We were close to the elevator and stairs but it was very quiet. We will definitely stay again. Also parking was only about 100 feet away and they validate your parking ticket for a discount.

Yelp
Wonderful boutique hotel for a weekend trip. Friendly staff, clean and stylish modern interior. Connects directly to Black Tap restaurant. Perfect location for walking to Times Square and Broadway, far enough that you avoid the crowds, and Uber can find you. Daily room cleaning. Its right next to Empire State Building and has a Rooftop bar with an unobstructed view, for those instagram addicts out there.

Yelp
Wow great experience, Abdullah was so helpful! I left a bag behind, he went all the extra miles to make sure that I got all my property back! Thank you Abdullah and the Kixby!

Yelp
Stayed here for several days in Manhattan recently -- for the price point, it was a bargain compared to a lot of other available options. Midtown location is very convenient, super touristy but you're a block or two away from any subway line in any direction to pretty much anywhere you want to go on the island. Rooms are relatively spacious (especially for NYC!) and beautifully appointed. Trash + basic refills etc. every day, but full turn-down service every 3rd night. Some elements could use some updating (heater/AC and fridge are both quite noisy, and windows + doors are pretty thin). Shoutout to Maria at the front desk for her excellent service -- she was warm, attentive and helpful!

Nick V.

Yelp
We had a great experience at Kixby. Room and bathroom was small, but nicely renovated and very clean. I think there may be renovations going on in other areas of the hotel, but nothing was bothersome. Staff was polite and very attentive, and acknowledged us each time we left or arrived. They provided umbrellas during our stay, which was greatly appreciated! Although the rooftop bar is closed, the roof offers an amazing view of the Empire State Building. The location was nice, in a quiet location, and I never felt unsafe or uncomfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Pretty solid location for NYC, right by Penn Station but a block away from the crazy crowds. The room was small but the bed was comfy enough. The hotel was slightly above a holiday inn level...they offered a continental breakfast and free wifi. Only complaint was that the bathroom had some wear and tear like paint chipping/wallpaper needed to be replaced and tiny scratches in the tub etc. Good bang for the buck and again, location was great.

Yelp
I just found my new hotel in NYC! Great lower midtown location and very cool vibe. Front desk staff and door man were all friendly and helpful; check in was easy. Will definitely stay here again and will recommend to friends.

Yelp
This hotel is fantastic. The location is perfect. The employees are very polite and attentive. I'm very happy I ended up choosing this hotel to stay at for my Christmas trip. The check in was fast and easy. We arrived before check in, which is at 4, but theY held our bags for us until we were able to get up to our room. They have a restaurant attached to the hotel as well called black tap. Fantastic. Our room is perfect and the beds are comfortable. The bathroom is large and the shower has plenty of hot water and a lot of room. They have bottles of complementary water in the rooms which I liked. This place is fantastic and I highly recommend. I will definitely stay here again next time I come to the city!

Yelp
We stayed at Hotel Metro over 4th of July weekend and were very impressed by its all-around offerings. The good stuff: 1) Location, very central and close to all stations that would travel to any of NYC's airports. 2) We arrived at around 8am in the morning and they were kind enough to check is in early. 3) Rooms are spacious for NYC, with nice high ceilings. 4) That bed - SO comfortable and soft! It balanced out the big negative of the hotel (street noise), as you'll sleep so soundly, the street noise won't bother you as much. 5) Fast free wi-fi. 6) Modern bathroom/shower. 7) Elevator and easy stair access to the floors. 8) Helpful hotel staff. 9) Effective air conditioning. 10) Right in the middle of K-town! (if you're into Korean food) All in all, we'd love to stay here again!

Yelp
In terms of hotels, you can't beat the location. A block from Herald Square and Macy's, the subway is close, walking distance to Madison Sq Garden and The Empire State Building, the Hotel Metro was my home for this past weekend. Compared to the other hotels I've stayed at in the area, I would book here over some of the others again. Check In was nice and easy with staff that was polite and friendly. The room was bigger than most downtown NYC hotel rooms, and the waterfall shower made me want to stay in there until I ran out of hot water. I had a room on the 9th floor in the front, and I wish I would have had a better view than the couple in the hotel across the street from me who forgot during their.. uh.. "activities" that others could see in. Fortunately they realized it the second night and had their blinds shut. If you're looking for a place to stay, I'd suggest looking here.

Yelp
Location of the hotel is fantastic. If you're taking the Metro, you can take the D Line and exit 34th & Herald Square. The hotel is literally like 3 buildings away once you exit the Metro. It is also right by Macy's. Time Square is a brisk 5 minute walk from Hotel Metro. Also, the roof top terrace of the hotel (which is open 24 hours for guests) has an amazing view of the Empire State Building. Upon arrival, the hotel receptionist was polite, friendly, informative, & humorous. (The gentleman behind the desk greeted me by my name as I walked up to the counter to check in.) The lobby of the hotel was a bit hot, as well as the elevator. We stayed in room 1010. It was located at the end of the hall. The room I booked was for a standard double. Even though this room was not one of the newly renovated ones, to my surprise, the room had a King size bed. Then room itself is rather spacious. It included a lounge chair and desk and desk chair. The end table next to the bed had a iHome docking station/alarm clock. The room also included a mini fridge. This room did not have central air. Instead it had a wall mounted A/C unit. Across the bed was the television set. There isn't a in room coffee machine, but downstairs in the lobby, there are coffee/tea available 24/7. The restroom was a bit compact. It had a heater unit attached to the bottom of the wall. The shower water pressure was a bit lacking, but it did the job. There is a wall mounted hair dryer for use. The bathroom amenities included shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body soap, facial soap, and shower cap by Gilchrist & Soames. On the 12th floor, there is a gym available for guests. It is also air conditioned. The gym has your standard treadmill as well as weight lifting stations. In addition, there is a water cooler in there if you need to hydrate during your workout. Complimentary breakfast and complimentary wifi is available. Overall, it was a pleasant stay and I wouldn't mind staying here again next time I am in New York.

Yelp
Still an excellent value especially for family stay; great location, walking distance to theaters, dining and shopping Subway near. Clean rooms. Good service with breakfast included. Housekeeping is very good. Family suite is perfect for adults and kids.

Yelp
Just after getting home from our trip to NYC and I felt this place deserved a review. I usually don't like to give anything 5/5 but there's honestly not a bad thing I could say about this place. On arrival we were gave a free upgrade to the newly renovated 9th floor with a fridge full of free soft drinks, water and a free wine tasting event every night at 5pm-6pm. We had our own personalised welcome letter waiting for us in our room on arrival as well which made us feel welcome. Breakfast was complimentary and couldn't have been better, bagels, muffins, fruit, Coffee and cereals, everything you needed to set you up for your day of exploring the big apple. Location was amazing as it was close to Macy's and times square but was still on a one way street which wasn't too busy at night so you couldn't hear much noise from the city that never sleeps. There's also an awesome rooftop terrace to take in an amazing view of the empire state building. All in all I will definitely be coming back here the next time I'm in the city as it could not be faulted. Do it.

Yelp
Arrived few hours before check in, the held our luggage for us. So far so good. We come back 10 minutes before check in and are told room isn't quite ready. Again, that's fine we are a little early. We sit down and wait. That's where things take a turn. 3, yes three, other parties check in AFTER us. They are given their rooms with free upgrades. By the time we are given ours, it's on the highest floor, hidden in a corner. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone with certain levels of melanin.

Yelp
I found this hotel around 1998. It has changed so much over the years. I've always enjoyed it as the rooftop offers a wonder respite. An incredible view of the Empire State Building and you are within walking distance of the theater district, Macy's and lots of awesome restaurants. While I have been to NYC many times, this was my wife's first trip. She loved the hotel. Sure, it's not huge, but it was roomy enough for the two of us. Housekeeping worked on our schedule and they were terrific. There were a few nights we wanted to call it an early day and we landed and the Metro's bar. A very good selection of top shelf liquors and friendly bartenders, we liked the quiet intimacy of the bar. It's 2015 and I'll come back again to the Hotel Metro. When I'm in New York, I can't think of a better place for me.

Savannah C.

Yelp
Profiles by the front desk I went last week for hotel drinks at the bar and my father was visiting today. We were in the area so I took to see the bar since I enjoyed my time there. He sat in the lobby briefly because he was complimenting the couch when a guy from the front desk came and asked if we were guests. I said no I wanted to show the bar, he said we could go to the bar or would have to leave lobby. This would have been less upsetting if I had not been there the previous week and taken a personal call on the exact same couch because the bar was too noisy. The front desk guy was very rude so now I won't go back.

Yelp
Pros: Location is great, you're seconds away from 34th street station. You're across the Empire State Building and a short walk away from Time Square. Free basic breakfast. Cons: Pretty much..everything else. Their key system wasn't working for our room when we checked in. They told us to come back after dinner, still no key ready. Told us the next morning, nope! Finally got our keys at the end of the second day. The inconvenience should have been taken care of on spot and given us a room without issues. They gave us a wheelchair accessible room on the 2nd floor, basically the first floor of guest rooms. This room did not come with the beverages they said they'd provide. The bathroom has no tub, because it's made to fit wheelchairs. It's a bathroom with shower curtains in one corner to block the water from flying all over the place. You need to be careful of slipping on the tile. And the bathroom reeks like sewage. We had to keep the lights on to keep the ventilation running. They say they offer free wifi in all rooms, there was no wifi in our room. I told front desk about this and said they'd restart the modem. Well, we never got wifi in our room during our 5 night stay. They also thought it would be totally fine to let their guests stay next to a room under construction. At 8:30am, they'd start hammering into the walls. Thanks for the alarm, but no thanks. We even hung our DND sign on the door. What kind of hospitality is that??? What hotel would assume that this is okay? Absurd. I had to go down and complain for them to stop. I also asked if they had other rooms other than the second floor and they certainly were not accommodating at all, even after all the inconveniences. Not a single apology from the ladies I spoke with at the front desk. Clearly, they did not give a damn about how we felt. I was told that the hotel could arrange taxis for us to the airport. I asked the woman at the travel info booth how I would go about getting a taxi, she responded in the most condescending tone, telling me they don't call taxis in NYC, that they're not allowed to do that and that I'd have to go catch one outside or ask the bellman. She could have just politely directed me to ask the bellman. She didn't have to be so mean about something I didn't know. I booked this hotel for my family's first time in New York and I wish I didn't. The rates were lower than others and the reviews looked decent on the booking sites. But not worth it. Unless you know, you're getting a higher floor, don't do it. This hotel will give you a BELOW standard room for their own convenience and they do not do as they say. Everything about this building is old, especially the rooms on the 2nd floor. They were very unaccommodating, unwelcoming, and made us feel like CHEAP guests that didn't matter. I don't feel that we got our moneys worth during this stay and I'd rather pay more for another hotel. BTW, they have an open rooftop where everyone goes up to smoke cigarettes.

Yelp
Stayed in NYC for one night. I typically don't have much expectations for hotels to begin with because I'm there to just sleep and not spend much time locked up in there. When. Arrived I was pleasantly surprised to receive one of the pent house floor rooms, I must have lucked out in that they didn't have any standard rooms available. It was nice: room was large. Queen size bed I believe. Bathroom had a large bath tub, shower, two separated sink and vanities. Flat screen and office desk. Mini fridge and complimentary water bottles and Cokes. No snacks. Being on the top floor means easy access to the gym on the same floor, though I didn't take advantage of it. Also means easy accrss to the rooftop patio. Overall, nice hotel. Didn't make much of it but nothing to complain since I was there only for one night to make it into a morning meeting the next day.

Yelp
Loved this hotel. Great location. Subway entrance is on the same block. Clean nice size room , which is difficult to find in NYC. Your at Macy's/Harold Square but off the main tourist street which is perfect for visitors. Extremely comfortable bed. A safe is located in the closet for valuables. Free wifi. Complimentary continental breakfast. Also, has a small refridgerator in the room for drinks etc. It can get a little noisy on the street because at night garbage trucks come by to pick up trash...The noise wasn't bad enough to keep me awake or awaken me after I fell asleep. But, you may want to request a high floor to minimize noise. Overall, I had a comforting and relaxed stay. I would definantly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
I had a great stay here (4 nights) at the Metro and would definitely stay here again. I have stayed at some really bad places in my hotel experience, traveling for business with a company that likes to save money. My room was actually quite large compared to the Hampton Inn next door, where I normally stay. My room size was a King, I believe, and I could not tell if it was a newly renovated room or one of the older rooms. The bathroom had some wear and tear, but overall it was fine. The toilet is old and the chain broke during my stay, and the soap holder in the shower was crooked, so it could not hold soap. At least there as hot water, right? The window in the bathroom is very transparent, so I found myself taking showers with the light off or jumping quickly from the shower to behind the door. I do not think that other people noticed how transparent the window was, because you could see way too much if you looked out the window at other rooms across the way. The room closet was big, and the bathroom toiletries provided were very nice. During my hotel stays, I like to leave the DND tag on the door, so that the ladies do not clean the room everyday. I find that all they do is make the bed, give me more towels than I need and go through my stuff. Where, here that is not an option. Even if the tag is on the door, they will bust into your room to "clean" it. Even woke me up from taking a nap to do so. So the sign on the door does not work here. Another complaint of mine is that there are no electrical outlets near the desk, so I had to set up my laptop on the floor across the room, not able to use it on the desk. This was also the case with my i-phone, which did not fit into the docking station right next to the bed. That was across the room on the floor as well, with the laptop. You cannot surf the channels easily on the TV and there are two remotes, one to turn the TV on and one to change channels. Unless you memorize the channels, because they do not provide you with a list, you will surf down only. You cannot surf channels up, so after you have cycled through channels you can only surf down in number again, which was time consuming and often I was too tired at night to deal with it. My key stayed magnetized the whole time, even though I kept it in my wallet the whole time. Internet is complimentary and the password only cycles once a month, which is great. At some of the other hotels nearby, it changes every night at midnight, so you have to call downstairs every morning for the new pass code (annoying). There was a mini fridge in my room, which was a lifesaver at times. I wish that there was a microwave for guests to use I the dining room, that would have helped too. So I found myself eating cold leftovers at times. Since I stayed at the hotel on a corporate account, we were able to have free hot breakfast for a limited time at the Metro Café next door. Which was very delicious, but not worth the $13 they were asking for it, if it was not free. But, it was way better than eating their cold breakfast for most guests because the pickings were slim there and it was also a stare-fest. As a guest, you are allowed free coffee and tea during off-hours in the dining area, and to use the area as a meeting area, per se. There are also downstairs public bathrooms, which are convenient. The staff was very friendly and they are accustomed to storing luggage for guests and do so in a professional manner (unlike the Hampton Inn). You will also find that there is always someone there to help you with your car and even open the door for you late at night. There is still some of that old world charm at the Hotel Metro.

I was super happy with my stay here, Christian and Sunny were on night duty and they made me feel right at home! Christian was the most helpful and showed me up to the rooftop bar at 6:00am to see the beautiful sunrise over the Empire State Building.

Yelp
I am in awe with this place now called the Kixby Hotel. The staff here are so nice and polite. I stayed here for 5 nights and every time I came in or out they were always had a smile and always greeted me. They always made sure I was comfortable and didn't need anything while I stayed. This is a home away from home. I highly recommend this place. I will definitely come back in the future.

Yelp
Didn't even stay here the night. Made out with a handsome cutie on the bed, and had bedbug bites the next day. That's gross on your part Kixby!

Yelp
Quaint little hotel in a good location. It reminded me of the 60s, with the retro decor and movie star art. The rooms are small (my bathroom door hit my bed), but do the job. There is a great view of the Empire State Building from the rooftop, which has a bar in the warm season. I sat outside one afternoon to do work on a cold but sunny day. If you plan on working, this hotel might not be your best option. The wifi is very unreliable and I had to call twice to get it working again (one time they fixed it, the other time they couldn't). Room service is spotty as well. I left for half the day and it wasn't cleaned, so I had to call and request a cleaning and then leave again. The other day I came back and it was halfway done but no maid in site. I left to get them the chance to finish. Breakfast is light. Lots of carbs (bagels, muffins, cereal, etc.) but not much else. I had yogurt each day. There is some whole fruit as well. It would be nice if they offered some hot dishes. The staff was nice and is always there to open the front door for you, but it doesn't quite make up for the other shortcomings.

Yelp
This is a review of the rooftop bar only. The view of the empire state building is fantastic. It feels like you're sitting right next to it and it's a great place to bring out of towners for an up close and personal view of the building. It's not fancy; it's not sexy; it's not pretentious; it's simply a bar on the roof. Great for after work conversation. I ordered a margarita which happened to be quite strong. I don't know if that's normal or if I just got lucky but I'm willing to go after work again for another try. I didn't order any food because looking around at the food other people ordered I was pretty much convinced that I should go elsewhere to eat. There is fantastic Korean food all around that area so that's what I did after.

Yelp
We arrived at 8am due to a Red Eye flight and asked to be checked in early. We were expecting that to happen around 1 to 2pm opposed to the normal 4pm check-in time. After calling the front desk a couple times throughout the day and waiting in the lobby at 3:30pm, we start seeing people arrive and checking in right away... which is what sent this review straight to the bottom! Needless to say we will not be staying at the Hotel Metro any more.

Yelp
My daughter and I just stayed here for 5 nights and really enjoyed everything about this hotel! When we arrived, the doorman helped us in with our luggage. The front desk staff were all pleasant and they upgraded us to a penthouse room on the 13th floor. That was an unexpected surprise! The only downside to a penthouse room is only one of the two elevators goes up there, but the wait times for the elevator really weren't bad. We go up to our room, and it's very spacious and clean! The beds (there were 2 in our room) were very comfortable. There were 3 complimentary water bottles on the table and about 6 sodas in the fridge. The bathroom was nice and roomy with a double vanity and amazing shower with 3 different shower heads! I think I could have spent all day in there! The furniture in the room was a bit dated, but functional. We had a view of the hotel across the street, but we weren't staying there for the views. If you want a great view, they have a rooftop patio with an incredible view of the Empire State Building. I guess there used to be a bar up there, but there isn't any more. Now it's just a nice place to sit. People do smoke up there which is annoying, but it is outside. There was no smoky smell inside at all which is great! We were very comfortable all 5 nights. We had no issues with noise at night and I am a very light sleeper! The continental breakfast offered bagels, muffins, danishes, oatmeal (that you make), cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread, milk, juice, tea and coffee. Nothing hot, but there was a large toaster. It was a great way to get a quick breakfast each morning before heading out. At 5:00 PM each day there was a wine tasting, and it wasn't just a taste, you got a full glass! They also brought you a plate of appetizers that were really good! The restaurant right next door also offers happy hour. We never ate at the restaurant, though. They were very accommodating when I requested that they split my bill into 2 payments so I could use my airline miles for part of it. Any time I had a question the staff was very helpful. There is concierge service but we didn't use it. When we were leaving, they let us extend our checkout time to 1 PM instead of 12, and the doorman held our luggage for us as we were not leaving until 2:30. The doorman also had a taxi ready for us at 2:30 which was very helpful! Overall it was a great stay and we would stay there again!!

Yelp
A highly elegant hotel. The interior is beautiful and the rooms are spacious. Every detail is well attended to and the location is phenomenal for anyone coming to New York for their first, second, or hundredth time.

Yelp
Here is a lesson I learned the hard way: Do not get let your stupid coworkers talk you into wasting an hour of a stupid gorgeous evening of happy hour walking to Hotel Metro, going in through the restaurant, asking some stupid smiley hostess if you can go up to the bar, having her count your four heads like children on a field drip, ripping off a tiny piece of plain paper with a "4" on it, being directed to an nondescript elevator, waiting nearly ten minutes for the elevator the size of a coffin, emerging onto a roof to be told by another stupid employee that you and your coworkers can stand at a table that has no stools while looking around at A TON OF STUPID EMPTY SPACE. Yes, it's true. All that retardation for a table in the middle of a fairly empty bar. Even worse, we waited around for five minutes for someone to come and serve us a few beers. When I got antsy and went to the bar, the bartender pointed at a sign that said something to the extent of "Waiter Service Only" and scoffed. The real kicker? I've seen better views. Lesson learned.

Yelp
She's sweet, she's intelligent, she's beautiful and she's checking out the guy at the table behind you. Another ego deflating success. With gorgeous views of Empire State Building and NY skyline you could toss your self pitying ass off the roof of the Hotel Metro or you can order another Stella or Brooklyn lager and enjoy the weather and view and drink yourself into a wondrous oblivion. As you decided your fate you can snack on some tasty calamari or other standard bar snacks. You're saved from awkward conversation by the boisterous patrons and a loud, strange sounding audio system (all top end, nothing below 3 kHz??). Serious conversation would be a challenge here,, but her obvious disinterest makes speaking a mute cause. Service was slow, but: a. the place was very busy. b. I was imbibing quicker than usual. An unpretentious, affordable, after work rooftop hangout? i was more of a fan of Hotel Metro, than she was a fan of me. 3,5 stars [Cue-- "Puddle of Mudd" ] "she fucking hates me la la la love I tried too hard and she tore my feelings like I had none and ripped them away" NB--- The rooftop bar should have a separate listing from Hotel. The above refers to the rooftop bar.

Yelp
Not a review of the hotel or the bar but of the little lounge just off the lobby. In my neverending search for cool places to write I popped into the Hotel Metro one day just to see what they had to offer. Imagine my happiness when I found a cute lounge with free coffee and tea, comfy chairs and tables. There's even a little writing desk! If you go to the back part you can usually turn the huge TV off and just listen to the jazz they pipe in as you work. The big screens can be a little distracting but there are ways around that - just aim your chair at one of the walls. There's no free internet from the hotel, though there are a few open networks in the area. The two times I've been there I haven't seen any hotel employees so you'll probably be able to fly under the radar when there. There's continental breakfast in the mornings, so maybe stay away then. Otherwise this is an excellent place to sit and write a while.

Yelp
Stayed for 4 nights at Hotel Metro and came away feeling pretty good about the experience though Yelping the place prior to booking probably tempered any lofty expectations I might have had otherwise. Like others have noted, the rooms ARE pretty small but, if you're the type who is out and about, this really isn't that big of a deal. The staff is friendly and accommodating (their job, I know) but the hotel itself, is a bit less than charming. The rooftop bar, which gives you an amazing view of the Empire State Building (especially on cold, foggy nights), was never staffed on account of the weather so I can't offer any opinions on that. But, then again, it didn't seem like the place I'd spend more than 20 minutes in anyway. All in all, I'd probably choose somewhere else to stay on my next visit, not because this hotel was awful, but because I'm always drawn to the unknown and the city has so many options to choose from. Recommended for the young explorers.

Yelp
What I liked: - The ipod dock! - Our room was spacious (by NYC standards). - Soft leather headrests above the beds. - Clean. - Good wireless connections. - Classy decor - big framed b&w photos by Man Ray and other masters. - Lounge on first floor had flat screen TVs, library books, coffee, and lots of comfy places to sit. - Convenient location near Penn Station, Macy's, the Empire State Bldg, the Hammerstein Ballroom ... There's a subway entrance on 35th and 6th Ave. What I didn't like: - It's expensive. We paid upwards of $300 per night last weekend. - The roof bar was closed for renovation (but I hear it has excellent views).

Yelp
This review is strictly for the roof top bar. My friend was right on. He simply said to meet at 35th and 6th Ave and that he had a great place in mind to grab drinks and catch up on life. My ears popped in the elevator on the way up, we stepped out of the elevator and the Empire State Building was ALL UP IN ME! We didn't have a server but there was quick service at the bar. Awesome view, spacious and not crowded (at least at the hour that we were there)-- SOLD. One gripe-- I got carded by the elevator doorman but my friend didn't? Come on, at least courtesy card him to make me feel less like a teeny bopper! :)

Yelp
The hotel was very clean, the staff were very friendly and the ambience was very relaxing. I was extremely happy at all points of my stay here. There were several delicious restaurants nearby and the Metro Grill is connected and offers room service. Their food was delicious as well. The family suite we were in had a remarkable view of The Empire State Building and the roof terrace was so quiet. There was a wine tasting in the evenings that was held in the common area and library that quite enjoyable as well. I'm a very picky person in general and I have not one complaint about this hotel. I will definitely be staying here again and recommend it to anyone who wants a great hotel in the heart of New York with a true urban feel

Yelp
Great location, decent room size. Very clean. No free continental breakfast (at least we were never told). Provided free water the first night and provided pop in the fridge . Only reason 4 stars as the front desk people were very curt and not focused on customer service. Otherwise I would stay here again based on location.

Yelp
It's a very convenient location.. very close to the subway and malls just a short walk like two blocks.. they were so nice =] my mom, aunt and i took the red eye over to new york.. and when we arrived they were more than happy to accomodate us anyway they can.. for example hold our luggage till it was time to check in and let us have their complimentary breakfast which was pretty stocked with bagels, coffee, pastries originally we booked for one room with two beds and a futon couch.. but they were nice enough to upgrade us to a suite which had two beds in the main room and one separate room exactly like the main room but smaller.. it was perfect for the three of us =] another good thing about their location is that outside on a weekday morning the breakfast carts park on the corner of the block and sell bagels, pastries, and coffee, and when i was there.. they had those fruit cart/stands too.. it's pretty awesome how they sell fruit in such a busy area =] wish they had something like that in san francisco =] o yea on the roof you have the empire state building towering over you

Yelp
My friend told me that there was a really cool roof bar, so I put aside my misgivings about the location and went along. Well there was a roof bar and there was a gentle breeze so in some sense it was technically "cool", but - the place was packed - there were precisely 2 bartenders and about 200 customers - plastic glasses - ugh, why?? Yes you can see the empire state but I have a better view from my apartment and you'd get a stiff neck if you looked at it for more 3 seconds

Yelp
I'm lucky enough to be packed off to NYC about once a year for work. I bust my rear all day but the evenings are mine and I love being here. There are two great places to stay near my clients offices and The Hotel Metro is one of them. The rooms (entire hotel really) are large, spotless and nicely decorated. The beds are soft and comfy. The bathrooms updated and marble. The TV's are new and flat panel. And I love the neighborhood, fab Korean food just out the front door and close to Times Square, the Theatre District and 5th Ave. So why, you may be wondering, with all this love does The Hotel Metro only rate 3 stars? Because the internet SUCKS. It's the most pathetic connection I've ever experienced and I just spent 15 minutes on the phone to tech support because I was blocked for having more than 2 browser tabs open at once. I guess this is their passive aggressive way of telling me to get my butt out of my hotel room and enjoy all that the city has to offer, work, Facebook and Yelp reviews be damned.

Yelp
OK, the place was clean and the location is good, but damn it was expensive, and I have stayed nicer places for cheaper, but this is where my colleagues were staying. The roof top was cool, but the bar was not open so it wasn't that cool! The manager was a bit of a prick to my colleague who made the mistake of sitting down in the lobby with a cup of coffee--albeit in front of a sign that said No food or Drinks--and the manager was not polite about it at all and it was an honest mistake.

Yelp
I was very glad to walk in to my room and find a small but very clean and nicely appointed room. I have been burned by smaller, less expensive hotels in Manhattan, so I was very happy. The front desk staff is very friendly and helpful, and the lobby is clean and well maintained. The location and price are tough to beat, and so long as one is accustomed to the smaller, European style rooms, this will be a no brainer. Great deal for the area.

Yelp
So, it's come to this. I'm at that stage of my life where I'm too old to be sleeping on friends' couches, futons & floor palettes and so, hotel shopping we go. Got a great deal on Orbitz for this spot and, could not have been more pleased. What a hit! Hotel Metro is in the Garment District/Koreatown -- stone's throw from Macy's, quick walk to Times Square and the theater district and everything I wanted to do during my weekend trip. Staff was warm and accommodating -- I asked to be moved to a room with a tub and got that with no problem. I felt like the Concierge Jeff became my Ace in 48 short hours -- he definitely looked out for me! The room with the tub on the 2nd floor was just fine. Nothing over the top. This is an older, Art Deco-style hotel and I think some areas have seen better days. My room seemed to be in an "enclosed" area of the building and the window did not actually get any sunlight. I think this helped me sleep better (later) but was a little disconcerting when I realized I couldn't see out to the street or get any natural light at all. The bed was comfy, I got my nice, long soak in the tub and the room was clean -- mostly. Both of the chairs in the room had *visible* stains in the seats. Like, body-fluid looking stains. Not a deal breaker, as I didn't sit in them, but clearly something that needed to be taken care of, and staff was appropriately embarrassed and removed the chairs when it was brought to their attention. I was gone for up to 14 hours at a time, so the aesthetic quibbles are small. Hotel Metro provided exactly what I needed: a clean, safe room with a helpful staff in a great location. Hotel Metro also has a continental breakfast from 6:30- 11 a.m. and 24-hour coffee/tea service. I dug that. Considering that both the adjacent big corporate hotels quoted me prices that averaged $200 more than what I paid at Hotel Metro, I'd definitely stay there again.
