Wanting to stay with the Japanese theme after a visit to the netsuke exhibit at the Japanese garden, I found Kizuki in the nearby Uptown Shopping Center. It was my first time there, and I was delighted with everything! I felt as though I were in a nice little place in Kamakura! Ramen seems to be a focus, but wanting to avoid the carbs, I ordered their spinach goma-age (wilted spinach with roasted sesame oil and sesame seeds (which I will now make at home!)), the house salad (romaine lettuce topped with chicken, soft tofu, cucumber, seaweed, and miso dressing,) and the Japanese bun, (a soft, warm Peking duck style sliced bun filled with sliced chicken karaage, cucumber, lettuce and a little mild dressing.) Endless cups of Japanese tea served without waiting. Everything was attractively plated. The portions were reasonable but moderate enough to enable me to try three items, which I appreciated. It was a very satisfying dinner.
The style of the restaurant was perfect: pin-neat, not oppressively traditional, not too "cutsie," just unmistakably Japanese, pleasant and relaxed. The manager was friendly and helpful, very on-the-spot without hovering. I felt well-cared for, have recommended Kizuki to friends and will return!
Going in off-hours is a plus because parking in the area can be a challenge. Enjoy!
