"A dual-purpose cafe and yarn shop called Knitting Nook (124 Sawyer St.) will open soon. In addition to providing a space for people to purchase knitting supplies and receive guidance on projects, the shop will sell coffee, food, beer, and wine." - Dana Hatic

This is a gem of a local business. Lisa, the owner, goes out of her way to get to know everyone and to create a warm community. While sitting at the bar, I met other knitters and had fun chatting with them. And I got to eat cheese, drink wine, and knitting. What more could I ask for?

This place is original. The energy is great. The material is beautiful and the owner is one of a kind. Highly recommend Knitting Nook, whether you knit or not.

TL;DR: great food and sweet yarn shop run by an even sweeter shop owner! Stopped by for lunch and some yarn shopping while on vacation with my partner. We had a delightful meal, including beers and dessert, as well as some lovely conversation with the proprietor. Lisa, the owner, is warm, welcoming, and kind. Anyone can tell that she puts her heart and soul into this shop and that feeding people is an absolute labor of love. The yarn area of the shop is small with a modest selection, but it’s very charming and well thought out. I purchased some lovely yarn to make socks for my partner and he can’t wait for me to start!

If I ever run away from home - this is where I’m going. I was at the Knitting Nook last October, not being a knitter I wasn’t thinking this would be my kind of place - I was wrong. I didn’t eat, but the beer was great, and I can’t wait to go back and see Lisa the owner. I may even learn to knit xx

Love this shop. Lisa was so friendly and makes a great sandwich. Homemade mint iced tea and pickle slices are a must try. Yarn selection is limited but high quality. Works by local artists are featured on the walls and are for sale. Very comfortable atmosphere.

Came to Portland today to do a college visit at MECA, my mom and I wanted to check out some yarn stores, and found this absolute gem! We had no idea what to expect but loved this place! Lisa, the owner, is so charismatic and sweet, that we bought some yarn, sat down, had some drinks, and talked for hours! I can’t recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Stopped by to view my friend's photo display at the Knitting Nook. Such a fun space. Food and drinks available if you want to view art, knit or just sit with friends and chat away. The owner is awesome and can make a killer sandwich or salad. Stop by and relax for a bit.

Yelp
No, I'm not a knitter, but my son invited us to join them for a late lunch at the Knitting Nook. We arrived about 2PM and found them and some other friends sitting a picnic tables that were "socially distanced" in a charming space behind the store. It was a nice day a little overcast, but comfortably warm at the tables. The menu consisted of a couple of salads and several sandwiches, and wine and beer. We selected the Mesclun salad with pecans, dried cranberries, blue cheese and a very nice vinaigrette that dressed the salad well, I had a glass of pinot noir, that complemented the salad. We followed up with a delicious strawberry shortcake that was served on a slice of pound cake. All in all it was a very pleasant experience

Yelp
This place is incredible! I was visiting a friend from college and when knitters get together, they buy yarn. (That's stone cold fact) she had been there before and raved about it, so we had to go! At first step into the shop I was in love. The layout was amazing, with yarn piled into bucket displays, needles behind the counter and lots of samples. There was also a local designer there that day to promote her latest "mystery knit-along." But that's not the coolest part. She has a cafe in there! I have never seen such a place. One central bar area, with seats at the bar, serving beer and wine. And lots of tables and comfy chairs to gather with friends and other knitters. The food is mostly sandwiches and fresh foods, like cheese plates, an Italian sandwich, etc. The owner, Lisa, greeted my friend as if they've known each other forever. And by the time that I left I felt like we were old friends, too. Lisa is funny, easy-going and has a warm, vibrant personality. Her shop exudes charm, right down to the photo of her grandmother by the door, along with one of her last crocheted blankets on display. (Her grandmother taught her to knit.) I so look forward to visiting the Portland area again. I definitely joined the mailing list because even though I only come to Maine a few times a year, this girl is now a regular patron. :)

Yelp
Went with a friend to get yarn, stayed for coffee ... then friends husband came ... stayed for lunch and a beer. Finally after totally enjoying ourselves, bought the yarn and left. Soon to return ...

Yelp
Lisa has the warmest yarn store/cafe! I walked in and was immediately greeted with her lovely smile. This is what it should feel like when you walk into a yarn store. I immediately thought, "These are my peeps!" I hung out here and chatted with her and the other regular customers and 4 hours went by in no time. Like all small businesses, she is doing her best as a small business owner to survive during Covid times. While her yarn selection may be smaller than others, it'll be just a matter of time before she can add more yarns. This is def a must if you have a little time and want to connect with warm, friendly knitters.

Yelp
What a great little spot! Lisa and staff are helpful and friendly. Food and drink are great! Very welcoming atmosphere as well as a fun community of people who are regulars. The times I've gone there I've always had great conversation with both staff and other customers despite not even knowing them. Just an overall great little hangout spot even if you're not a knitter.

Yelp
I am new to knitting and am so lucky that I got my start here! Lisa is really welcoming and helpful for those of us who aren't sure where to begin. The Knitting Nook is a great place to hang out, have a snack and a drink, work on a project or get help if you are having trouble with one. They also have classes for knitters of all levels of experience and fun events!

Yelp
Lovely neighborhood spot in Ferry Village with quality sandwiches, wine, coffee, tea, yarn and welcoming spirit. Warm spot on a chilly winter day to meet with friends or spend some time getting ready for the new year.

Yelp
Had a lovely visit with Lisa at The Knitting Nook. I dragged my non-knitting friend and my non-knitting daughter with me. We had a blast eating cheese, sipping iced tea and squishing yarn. Lisa had a nice selection of natural fibers with high end washable yarns too. She was fun, chatty and super welcoming! I'll definitely will be visiting often.
