6 Best Ramen Stops in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Korean restaurant Ko Cha sits in a gas station with about seven tables and a very extensive menu of bulgogi and bibimbap, but if you’re looking for noodles, the kitchen can satisfy those cravings. The presentation is unfussy with chicken broth and instant noodles, but you can dress it up with extra cucumber and cabbage kimchi." - Erin Perkins

Google
Chinese owned and operated “Korean”. Please stick to what you know. This is not authentic Korean food. It will do if you really want a Kimchi Pancake ( was the highlight of the menu) If you want authentic Korean I would suggest going to Savannah or better yet Duluth Georgia. Stick to Chinese only here at this restaurant.

Google
I was skeptical about this place but surprisingly the food was excellent. 👌🏻And look at the portion size it's huge. We paid $33 for these two plates and two colas

Google
So we have ate at the restaurant and gotten food to go. These pictures are from the first time we ate there everything was very good. The service was great and even tho it was busy they were pretty quick. When we got food to go we ordered different things and it was alright-the red curry was not very curry like it was more like a stew and needed way more curry paste. The drunken noodles that sauce was not what it was supposed to be it was red not brown the flavor was ok. The spicy rice cakes amazing and generals chicken so good. The dumplings and crab rangoon and egg rolls are very good. So for the most part everything is great but seems like the Thai food isn’t up to par. Definitely give them a try.

Google
We tried a lot of Korean food, but this place is amazing! Highly recommended.

Google
My husband and I love Korean food. But what they serve is completely different. The chicken tasted disgusting. A strange light color, completely unseasoned and very overcooked, strange soft as if it had been cooked and reheated many times. Some of the vegetables were also completely tasteless. The beef was a little better than the chicken, but also very poorly cooked. I also ordered fried rice, but they warned me that it would also have meat (I don’t know why, I didn’t ask for it). The meat in this rice was also pretty disgusting. Soft and it seemed to me that it was tongue. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seemed to me that they mixed the products that were left over from the previous few days with the rice so as not to throw it away and made me pay an extra 3 dollars for this rice. My husband said that he would never eat it again even if they paid him for it. So if like Korean food then choose some different place..

Google
Surprisingly excellent place. Delicious food (both the Korean and Chinese) and very good service. It was definitely legit. Very fairly priced, excellent portions, and tasted great. It's connected to a gas station but highly recommended.

Google
Everything was good. We tried Chinese and Korean food. There are still many photos that have not been uploaded, but everything is much better than what you see in the photos. The service is also very friendly.

Google
I love this restaurant, especially their steamed beef dumplings. My husband and I probably eat there 3 to 4 times a Week. There’s sesame chicken and pork fried rice. It’s also delicious. My husband loves their soups. They’re hot soups. I like the chicken the best and it is truly delicious and I definitely

Yelp
My favorite quick pick up go to spots. I really the Korean side of the menu. My go to is the short ribs and white rice. It's good easy and so delicious. I also love their egg rolls they are so addictive!

Yelp
Great takeout spot for outer West Ashley! We've pickle up from here a handful of times now and it's a solid choice. Some items we've enjoyed - katsu, kimchi, sesame chicken, pork fried rice, egg rolls. Their hibachi isn't the best so I would pick another option. The staff are friendly and the food is usually ready very quickly. You can sit inside and eat - they have a few booths and tables. Parking is easy as well.

Yelp
KoCha is a hidden gem--arguably the best Chinese food gas station you'll find. Don't let the gas station setting fool you; this family crafts exceptional dishes and radiates genuine warmth. Whether you opt for indoor seating or takeout, the experience is consistently delightful. We've made it a tradition to pick up their fantastic food on numerous occasions and head home. A solid 100% recommendation, especially considering their diverse menu that includes some delectable Korean cuisine. The staff is nice and efficient. The food comes out hot and fast. It has the advantage of being right next to a gas station with a big parking lot so there's plenty of parking.
google avatar

Valerie K.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for take out sesame chicken and egg rolls. It's affordable, delicious and consistent.

Kay J.

Yelp
If you are looking for grandmas Korean home cooking, this is not it. If you're looking for something more on the fast food/Chinese takeout style, this is it. I had been almost homesick and wanted the first, but this wasn't the case. I think service is amiable. You can sit in but most people looked like they were doing takeout.

Yelp
A small restaurant that is tucked away next to a gas station. If you like Korean cuisine, I highly recommend you try this establishment. The Stone Pot Bibim-Bap was excellent as well as the Bulgo-Ki Bowl. The service was superb and the prices are quite reasonable.

Yelp
The food here is always so good. I work nearby and have it often! The owners are always so nice and they work efficiently to get our orders out to us even when they are busy. My favorite dish is there ramen, seafood pancake and their shrimp egg roll! Seafood pancake is probably my favorite. It has a great sauce with it that's super flavorful I always get an extra one. 10 out 10

Stacey C.

Yelp
Their food is super authentic and the price is friendly for lunch. It looks like holes in the wall place but it's super tasty. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Daniela Z.

Yelp
Pretty good for takeout when we're in the mood and don't feel like driving anywhere. They have diverse menu for people who may have different interests and desires.
google avatar

Wendy N.

Yelp
KoCha is one of my favorite "hole in the wall" restaurants! The family that runs this are always accommodating and kind. This place is consistent for high health scores and the food is always fresh and delicious! I have been here many times and hope to visit many more in the future. Some of our favorites are: Bibimbap, Galbi, Kimchee pancake, lumpia, Kimchee soup, etc. Great prices as well :)

Yelp
We ordered General Tso's, Moo Goo Gai Pan, and Pad Thai. General Tso's is rated as their second most popular entree. It was very bad! The flavor was off. It was too spicy and there was no sauce but simply a red paste covering each overcooked morsel of chicken. If it is their second most popular, what does that tell you about the remainder of their menu? How can a restaurant produce a very popular dish so badly? They have to know how bad it is. Everyone has tried reasonable General Tso's chicken. Contrary to the overly spiced chicken was the tasteless Moo Goo Gai Pan. The Pad Thai was OK but too spicy. Hey, it's hard to ruin noodles. We will not be giving this establishment a second chance as we have already found a much better replacement conveniently located on James Island.

Yelp
I'm a few weeks late on this one, but this is a great little restaurant around West Ashley. I highly recommend. I got the stone pot bibim-bap and it made for an excellent lunch. Seemed like pretty fast service and the staff was friendly. Clean, quiet, nothing out of the ordinary ambiance wise.

Yelp
I remember loving the authentic Korean food here from my last visit (well before the pandemic), so I decided to make another short cruise out here (near West Ashley/Charleston) for a late lunch on my own. Again, let me mention that this is a casual restaurant located next to a gas station...yet it's comfy enough, with some surprising decorative paintings and such. The service is more or less perfunctory, but fast and attentive all the same. This time, I had to try their Galbi platter (Korean Short Ribs). Plus, I added an order of Seafood Pancake to share with the boys back at our beach home. Once again, I was impressed...with their immense generosity, for starters. The Galbi platter was tremendous! I got the dinner portion, which was just below 20 bucks...but it came with a huge portion of Galbi in a cute cow-sculpted stone platter, AND a bento box full of sides (Rice, Fried Sweet Potatoes and an array of exotic veggies! Just SO much food...and all SO GOOD!! The Seafood Pancake was super-delish as well...though at first, I thought it was a bit overcooked (burnt even?). It's truly ironic how this restaurant, located next to a gas station (no joke!), is able to deliver such power-packed, presentable dishes...more so than all the so-called nice restaurants on Edisto Island nearby, at a fraction of the price! I mean, this amazing FEAST (Galbi platter plus Seafood Pancake) totaled around $35...a STEAL! Something just does not add up. Anyhow, am so glad I decided to revisit this place. Next time, I'm bringing my boys with me!

Yelp
I definitely would've looked past this place but I saw it's reviews were good and decided to give it as I'm on a hunt for good General Tso's Chicken. I ordered exactly that as the dinner meal which comes with a pork egg roll and I opted for the pork fried rice. The egg roll was one of the best I've had in a long time! Not mushy or slimy inside at all. The fried rice was yummy too. The General Tso was slightly disappointing. The chicken itself and texture was ok, but the sauce tasted more like a sweet and sour chicken sauce (it even looks like it in the picture attached). I also like it spicier. All in all, I'd eat it again and it's really close to me. The value was reasonable for the taste and quantity.

Yelp
Delivery review: Great Korean food in Charleston! I ordered delivery and it came SO fast and it was hot and delicious. The LA Galbi (short rib) was delish and the sides (panchan) were delicious and diverse. The portion was very good and the crab Rangoons are tasty too! Overall, excellent experience.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Very disappointing overall with smaller than normal portions and General Tso's Chicken being over cooked chicken to the point of being of hard and crunchy and lacking any additional sauce in the dish and same with Beef and Broccoli. Called restaurant to tell of disappointment just said good bye and hung up. Beware it wasn't inexpensive and inconsistent at best.

Yelp
Love this spot! Great food and yes it is in a gas station! You do not go there for ambiance. It is all just 100% good food! Our fav Chinese food spot even though it is not the nearest to us! Recommend their gen tso and Korean bulgogi set, really good value, we are always left with leftovers. Think they only have lunch Mondays- Fridays and on weekends is dinner price all day. Lovely family business
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant in West Ashley! Love this place! I need to try more of the Korean menu choices but my top favorite is the jobche noodles which are amazing fresh or cold as leftovers. The bulgoki is also right up there. It comes in a bento tray with each item in its own section. The extra items change each time I go. AND the service! The same sweet lady, I assume she's one of the owners because she is always so helpful and sweet.

Jk S.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The combo at dinner is so well priced. Beef egg roll, sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice for like $12 with tax. It's a lot of food. The pork fried rice is the best in town. Their Korean menu is very large. So many items including whole fish and duck.

Jen H.

Yelp
So impressed with this hidden gem. Located in a gas station plaza, this family owned and run business has a large menu of Chinese, Thai, and Korean cuisines. The service was great, owners were so kind, and the food was so unexpectedly amazing! Def a must try
google avatar

Yelp
Seafood pancakes. Beef bulgoki. All kinds of classic Chinese dishes. So perfectly cooked. We may or may not make up reasons to visit Charleston just to come to this restaurant once in a while.
google avatar

Yelp
We were at Ko Cha for lunch and had the bibimbap, short ribs and vegetable pancake for lunch. The wait staff were very friendly and good enough to give us take-out bags for another meal. It is in the Exxon station but the Korean food is very good, the kimchi and other sides were well worth the neighborhood trip in West Ashley. We loved it and probably come back.

Yelp
Felt like something different and decided on Ko Cha Asian Restaurant. I'd ordered ramen from them a year or so ago, but since my wife has been addicted to subtitled Korean films lately (that's another story) we agreed to give it a go with Korean selections. The menu is diverse in cultural cuisine; they serve Korean, Chinese & some Japanese dishes. I called my order in because the small dining room is closed, and I was told 15min it would be ready. Since I'm half that time away from there, I just hopped into the car and drove. Did it take me longer than I thought to get there? not sure, but it was ready when I arrived. The outside of the restaurant looked the same as before but the inside was definitely COVID safe. There was a newly constructed wall just feet inside the entrance with plexiglass transaction windows which could be opened when needed. Hand sanitizer was on the counter and the front door sported the masks required sign. The counter staff was friendly and responsive, and they tossed in a few egg rolls with my order for good measure. My transaction went off without a hitch and I was on my way in minutes. Back at the house I discovered wonderful surprises under the lids of my containers. Superbly crispy chicken wings with shrimp fried rice, Katsu pork with sticky rice, vegetables and 2 shrimp spring rolls with sauce, and a dozen fried beef dumplings ($6.99), and of course some pickled veggies and those egg rolls I mentioned earlier. ALL of it was great, still hot when I got home, with very satisfying portions. I know, we drifted towards Japanese selections but they did a great job nonetheless! Pictures follow and you can bet I'll make this a more regular stop. Next time, Kimchi Soup & Kal-bi. If you're wondering where the 5th star is, it was lost in ambiance - perhaps no fault of the proprietors, and no matter how hard I tried I to reach for it, it eluded me.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered General Tso Chicken lunch and Crab Rangoon as a appetizer. The chicken was crispy and the perfect amount of heat.
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
We found this place online and although we never would have tried it without reading reviews, they were spot on. This place is a hidden gem! Food is amazing and service was great. Ordered online each time and only had to wait briefly once (we ordered at dinner time on a Friday). Delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been their costumer for quite sometime and their korean food options are amazing and so does their Chinese food. Its in gas station area but don't get intimidated by it. Their food price very competitive compare to other korean resto in Charleston area and taste better too. I recommend this little gem resto in West Ashley.

Jung L.

Yelp
Restaurant could have better decor... needs different theme food not bad... quick service when lady is present and easy access.

Yelp
I first visited this restaurant about four years ago and it has been consistently good since then. Whenever I come back to Charleston for a visit I make it a point to stop here and pick up some food. The service is good. The packaging is great and it has turned out to be one of my favorite gas stations, I would recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for tasty food, good service, and employees with a caring attitude.

Sammi P.

Yelp
Great place for Korean food. Always fast and delicious. I also have seafood allergies and they have always been fantastic about no cross contamination.

Stephen F.

Yelp
Been going to this place for close to 5 years and they're always so good. Best pad tai in America, and I've travelled a ton. Service is top notch.
google avatar

Erika S.

Yelp
Best chinese still in Charleston. Actually going to be grabbing take out tonight and I can't wait! They are always so accommodating and my order is always ready quickly and is ALWAYS correct. Will not order from anywhere else!!!
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
Decent little Korean / Chinese place next to a gas station. Not the best looking restaurant from the outside. They've set up an outside order / pay / pick-up window due to COVID, so I didn't see the inside. I'd say the menu definitely leans towards Chinese cuisine rather than Korean, despite the implication in their name, although they do offer several Korean options, plus about six Thai. I tried the hibachi chicken combo, with fried rice and veggies, plus a side of beef dumplings. The chicken was a little bland and the rice very basic (no veggies or meat in it). But I did enjoy both after adding their white shrimp sauce. The dumplings were good, but can't recommend the included dipping sauce (way too salty). I added some teriyaki sauce I had at home and the dumplings were great.
google avatar

Patricia S.

Yelp
I love that there are different types of Asian restaurants here such as this Korean one that offers other Asian dishes as well. It works mostly as a pick up and take out, but it has a decent dining area for those who want to eat in.

Amina M.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I got the spicy rice cakes (Tteok-bokki), seaweed soup, spicy chicken ramen, and kimchi fried rice. I loved everything. And the service was great as well. The owners checked on me and even helped me box my food. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Yana K.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by this restaurants location. The food here is fantastic. My husband and I have ordered takeout from Ko Cha on numerous occasions and it's always been delicious. Fresh, hot, and there are always leftovers!

B L.

Yelp
I love this restaurant. I lived in Korean and this is very authentic. I would love to see lettuce leaves with the bento boxes so I can wrap all the deliciousness and eat that way sometimes adding fresh garlic thin slices, yum yum. The food is so flavorful and just delicious. Highly recommended. Service is also outstanding.

Ted W.

Yelp
Awesome lunch. Had bi bim bop. Hot stone pot. Fresh and delicious. The person at the counter whom I assume is the owner is very, very sweet a very inviting and fitting lunch spot. I was skeptical because it shares space with a gas station. Don't be fooled. This place is worth it.
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Don't let the outside fool you, this place is legit! The owners work their tails off and everything I've had here is delish. The price is very reasonable and the food is hot, fresh, and yummy. All the thumbs up!
google avatar

Hailey M.

Yelp
I placed a simple to-go order of sweet and sour chicken and was pretty disappointed. The sweet and sour sauce was separate, and they gave me a tiny amount of sauce that didn't even cover half the chicken. The breading was kind of weird, and the whole thing just tasted off. I wanted to like this place because it's super convenient, but sadly won't be returning.
google avatar

Scot M.

Yelp
Korean food, done or to-go connected to a local gas station/convenience store. Quick phone call to place the order, told ready in 10 minutes. I'm right around the corner and shop in the store next door, score a six-pack of Elysian Space Dust. Walk back to Ko Cha and my food is being bagged ready for me to pay and go. So my go to takeout here is the Spicy Beef Bulgogi bento box. Good amount of spicy, not overbearing, enough to get the sinus flowing. The bulgogi was pretty awesome as well as the rice, kimchi and other items packed away. The menu has a mixture of Korean and Chinese so plenty to appeal to any appetite. Dine-in or call for takeout, Ko Cha is a winner.
google avatar

Stacy T.

Yelp
We ordered Bi Bim Bap and the squid dish. Two very common Korean staples. There was little to no seasoning on either dishes. The squid was so over cooked it was hard to chew. The worst part was the stomach pain I had for two days following.
google avatar

Steven P.

Yelp
Visited in Jan 2022. Not in a part of town frequent but I will make a point of returning. Being next door to the gas station might be off-putting but it's not really apparent once inside. The interior is simple but welcoming with some charming touches. Had Bibim-bap, lumpia, dumplings, and spicy rice cakes. Food was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. (The "rice cakes" are more like very dense and chewy rigatoni noodles. I recommend getting an extra side of vegetables to go with it and, even with two people, expect to have leftovers to take home.)

Benjamin D.

Yelp
It's really hit or miss with this place. The people are always really friendly and the place is clean. Sometimes the food is off the hook, sometimes it tastes like yesterdays.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Just Anotha One, Yeah. Same half assed American Chinese you can throw a bag of Skittles and hit 5 of. Technically not cooked incorrectly but about as bland as you'll find. There are good take out Chinese places in the area that I won't mention in another restaurants review because I imagine that's a no no, but this is boring and definitely not worth the money.

Angela R.

Yelp
Hands down, best around. The food is consistently delicious, prices are reasonable, and service is friendly.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Very good. Staff were quick to help us. The food was very good. Nice casual spot for a good meal.

Nancy G.

Yelp
The location is curious (who thinks of gas stations when they think of good food?), but this little place is a hidden gem! If you're looking for good Asian food, including Chinese, Korean & Thai check this place out! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Katu S.

Yelp
We were really excited to try this place based on the reviews. Unfortunately, this food was not it. So bland. My friend and I both ordered curries and the texture of the sauce was more like a weird, flavorless gravy. No coconut milk to be found. We ordered five dishes and all were inedible. To add insult to injury, my stomach is not loving the very little I ate of my food.
google avatar

Christy M.

Yelp
The food is good, but the timeline for to-go orders is not always accurate. I was told 15 minutes and ended up waiting about 35. Then again ordered take out with a tired baby in the car, again a "15 minutes," turned in to about 40... Which is a nightmare with a tired baby waiting...
