"It’s 2015, which means even landlocked cities like Champaign have great sushi. KoFusion fulfills the needs of all those who crave tuna rolls. Thankfully, a second location opened closer to campus right near the student residences, so blame it on convenience when mom and dad ask why the credit card bill is so high. Get the simple stuff, or a Big Roll if you want to get crazy – it’s a tempura-fried roll with crabmeat, avocado, tamago, cream cheese, and black mushroom. Sushi not your thing? The place is called KoFusion for a reason – check out the bulgogi or stir fries instead. True KoFusion veterans know to go for the all-you-can-eat Friday lunch or or $1 roll night on Mondays and Thursdays. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

OVERALL REVIEW 8/10 Parking is free; you receive a coin when you leave the restaurant. The restaurant was decorated by interior designers from Chicago. The restaurant’s atmosphere is more elegant than any other in the area. The bathrooms are clean and fully stocked. The restaurants tables and floors were clean. We ordered 3 salads and 7 different rolls of sushi. Our service was very good; our server was attentive to our every need. There is outside seating at this establishment. I have attached photos of our drinks, food, and receipt.

We really enjoyed our dinner here with family. The food was excellent and served promptly and was presented beautifully. I especially enjoyed the Fusion Maki roll, which was fried with a panko crust. It was unique and delicious! Also, their fried vegetable dumplings were probably the best tasting dumplings that I have ever had anywhere. They have a large indoor dining room, covered outdoor seating, and a full bar. Prices are moderate, but well worth it for the amazing food! I would definitely recommend reservations (especially on weekends) because this restaurant is very popular and gets very busy sometimes. There is street parking available and a few nearby parking lots. Also, in this area of downtown there are plenty of bars to visit, and they have live street music in the Summer to enjoy. We will definitely return here sometime and will recommend it to others.

Was told this was the place for sushi. They were not wrong. The options were plenty and unique. I had the coconut mango sushi. I could have 2 rolled easy it was so tasty. The flavor was so great! Barely tasted the coconut which I liked, the mango gave the roll just a hint of sweetness. All the rolls were excellent. The Flaming Dragon was truly set on fire. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The decor is modern and relaxing with an outdoor option when the weather is awesome.

Hoedutbop is quite pricy for the quality of food. Aashimi in the hiedodbop quality was bad. Also, It took minutes to bring the forgotten Gochoojang for the hoedodbop. I ordered sashimi combo large, and one fish was horrible. Not fresh taste. I don’t know how the server calculated, but he will deduct $8 from the bill out of 42 dollar and one portion is bad. Spicy tuna roll and the other roll was good. We were placed at the corner of the restaurant and felt forgotten. I would recommend “just order rolls.”

Google
Gem in Champaign! Covered outdoor patio was very pleasant. Staff attentive and helpful. Food was scrumptious. Heard about the place from family. Vegan options. This will be added to our 'go to' list from now on! Free parking-go into the gated lot and they'll give you a token to open the gate when you leave.

Took my kid here for lunch after we toured the U of I grounds. Cute, clean place with fast service. Ramen was decent, my noodles were excellent. Service was efficient and food came out fast. VERY expensive for a quick lunch!

The good food was excellent. The decor was very upscale and contemporary. We had a wonderful dinner and we will be back.

I had a business dinner at this place. It is decent. Their appetisers are okay, nothing over the top. Seems clean. Their cheese curds were good. The service was decent, and they were professional. The sushi rolls were good, standard. I wouldn’t come again to this place unless someone invites me to. Seems like a good option for a casual evening dinner.

Yelp
We brought our son here for his birthday this past weekend. We've been. trying to branch out from his stalwart faves closest to campus, so we were able to get him to come down to Ko Fusion to try something new. First and foremost: there is a parking lot. Not the biggest lot, but we found a spot and the parking is free! Just bring in your receipt and they exchange for a parking token for when you leave. It's a nice. large restaurant that is not very noisy so it makes for good conversation when dining. There is a covered patio for inclement weather, too! We were seated in a booth and I have to say, whoever designed the booths actually used their brains in the design. The bench seating is actually far enough away from the table so you aren't smushed up against the table. That's a huge plus! We started with the edamame and the Sweet & Spicy Korean Chicken Wings. The edamame was nicely steamed and came with an extra bowl for the discarded pods. Our son had the wings which were huge and came with a creamy slaw on the side to diffuse the spiciness of the wings. As for sushi, my son ordered the Rainbow roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and the Firecracker roll. They all looked great. My wife stuck to her normal rolls: two of the Spicy Tuna. I ordered the Coconut Shrimp and Mango (hold the mango) and the Flaming Phoenix roll (also held the mango). I will say this. I have been eating sushi for over 10 years and the Flaming Phoenix is my hands down favorite of any place I have ever been. Shrimp and butterflied shrimp. It was delicious! The presentation was awesome too. It is slightly on the pricy side, but this is definitely a more upscale place than other sushi places in Champaign and you are definitely paying for quality sushi. They were insanely fresh, flavorful, and large in size. This is now my go to sushi in Champaign!

Alanie N.

Yelp
I've always loved this restaurant, their sushi is next level and the service is always amazing. But I recently went and got the ramen and OMG, seriously probably the best ramen I've literally ever had. They have really changed the atmosphere since they changed locations but I love that it's a little more upscale now. Perfect place for date night

JoAnne A.

Yelp
Always amazing food and service. My go-to when I visit my son at U of I. Always fresh sushi (Chicago roll is my personal favorite), as well as delicious Asian dishes (I highly recommend the stir fry).

Maggie E.

Yelp
Went with my friend around 6:30 on a Saturday and we were seated right away. We ordered edamame to start and split the Big roll and Volcano roll, and all of the food was very tasty! I just have to mark off a Star because the building is a converted bank and based on where your table is, it isn't the best. We sat at a two-person table next to a column, but I felt like I was half in the walkway.

Yelp
Honestly, I slowed down my visits to KoFusion because things seemed to slip a bit in terms of food quality, service etc. I decided to try again and now I remember why I really enjoyed this spot. Let's start with Evelyn-- our waitress, simply amazing service. She provided suggestions and was attentive! Her level of care and service started things out with the right vibe, it was only up from there! I had the white dragon at Evelyn's suggestion (sorry no photo, but the lychee was refreshing on a humid, warm day!) The cheese curds were tasty, I'd never tried them prior to today, despite all of the times I've frequented KoFusion. Tip: be sure to ask for a side of sweet chili sauce... You're welcome! I love the Flaming Phoenix, it's such a tasty roll! I even eat the lemon slices with my roll. Also had the Fuji Snow, which provides such refreshing flavor-- again perfect for a summer day! Didn't order the Chicago this time, but it is one of my absolute favorites... Finished off with my favorite dessert, crème brûlée it's well-executed here! This was a very enjoyable visit. This is the version of KoFusion that I know and love... this is the way to keep folks coming back for more! Definitely passed the vibe check!

Yelp
The ambience was nice, but the food stole the show. I ordered the Solomon sushi roll and was expecting something along the lines of a run of the mill Dragon Roll, but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was attentive and on target, no pressure or upselling. Would come here again.

Angie W.

Yelp
Lots of variety of choices on the menu, including some interesting sushi options. We were a big group and didn't have reservations, but were seated quickly. Service was prompt, too!

Gwen M.

Yelp
I've been to kofusion previously and liked it a lot but I am not entirely crazy about their new location. The ambience is decidedly different at this new location - it almost seems too upscale for the cu community. Though I think their sushi and sashimi is pricey as opposed to some of my favorite LA and Seattle spots, I wanted to take my new-to-sushi experience brother and sister-in-law so we attempted to visit Wednesday night, arriving at about 8:20pm only to be told the kitchen was closed and that they were at last call for the bar. Being from places where one doesn't even go out until 7:30-8pm, I hadn't realized they closed so early and that's entirely my fault, but just now I checked the hours and learned Wednesday night closing time is 8:45pm. I'll remember that next time I go back, IF I bother to go back.

Julie B.

Yelp
Can't even get dessert on Valentines Day!!! Out of most popular roll ingredients at 5 pm.... 3 main specially rolls unavailable. Kofusion is a disaster for Ambiance, service and food quality!!! Sooo sad!

Kelly B.

Yelp
Koren was one of the bartenders, you couldn't even tell he was new, he did such a great job and was so attentive! Judith was amazing. She was helping train, bartend, serve and did not miss a step while being so so nice!! Food was also great!

Genna H.

Yelp
I love KoFusion!! My friends and I recently went to celebrate a birthday in a group of 6 on a Monday, and they were so accommodating to us and our party. They had many recommendations, I got the unsweetened iced tea to drink, I tried some of my friends cocktails like the passion fruit martini and the mojito and they were so refreshing! We ordered some of the tempura cheese curds for the table which come with some fried green beans and jalapeño pieces too, and with a spicy mayo sauce. So so good. I dream about them. Like amazing. I've previously tried the chicken wings, those were great too lots of flavor. I ordered the Torched Salmon roll, amazing. So much flavor even without the soy sauce. I loved it, and I wanted to keep ordering more when I was done!! I can't wait to go back!

Molly T.

Yelp
Love this place! Great place for a date night. The sushi rolls are big and very fresh. Usually only get sushi but it's very good!

Michael P.

Yelp
food was 3 ambiance 3.5 service 0 There was 8 of us and they spilled like a whole carafe of some sticky stuff and ruined bunch of my close (close to $1k worth) And offered me $50 off I would have to go after them unfortunately....

Mandy P.

Yelp
Came here for a 9 person dinner on move in day. They were the only place taking reservations on open table. Service was friendly and fast and my husband loved the mojitos. Stir fry - just ok. Saucy and the noodles were chewy. Steak was a little dry. Salmon - my mom thought this was too undercooked but the veggies were nice Ramen - pork belly was quite tough and made the soup pungent Tiger roll - crunchy and nice Volcano roll - very flavorful Creamy crunchy shrimp - cheesy and crispy Salmon avocado roll - just ok Pork dumplings - this is a serving a 4. Flavorful and crispy and they have the glass noodles in them

Melissa J.

Yelp
This place was ok. The server we had was unsure of what types of beverages were available. He stated Pepsi. When asked if there were other options he looked petrified to answer. He did an ok job but seemed very nervous. We just attributed it to maybe he was new. No big deal. The food tasted ok. It was nothing out of this world but better than your average sushi bar. We would have loved a few more choices for entrees. The Bul Go Kee was bland but it wasn't horrible. The Ramen was very tasty. Also the pork dumplings were great. My pineapple margarita was mostly tequila and very little pineapple. So I did get my $13 worth but it was almost undrinkable. I had to ask for more pineapple juice to be able to finish it. The decor was very nice and the staff was very friendly. I think we will probably go back some time and try other things just to see. Prices were also very affordable

David c.

Yelp
The sushi was fresh and delicious. I ordered the classic rainbow roll, fried vegetable dumplings, and tempura battered vegetables. Good price and service. The only negative was not enough Wasabi to share between 2 sushi rolls. I would definitely recommend trying.

Richard Y.

Yelp
First time here and it was a home run of a lunch! The ambiance is gorgeous-- modern, clean and comfy. Or server was great-- friendly and hospitality at a high level. The wings and seafood cheese apps were so delicious, as were our entrees-- sushi combo, bi bim bap, and the flamin' phoenix roll-- yum. The chocolate cake finish was spot on too. The cool thing inside was the former bank vault-- what's inside? A keeper for campus Visits!

Lynne L.

Yelp
As guests at a Birthday party I was really impressed with the way the servers kept 30plus orders organized. They were attentive, polite and professional. The restaurant itself is lovely. Our private room was brightly lit but the other spaces seemed very dark. Drinks were delivered quickly and reasonable wait time between meal orders. The food was excellent. I was a bit disappointed in that there is a starter sushi sampler( 4 rolls) but for some convoluted reason that I really did not understand I wasn't able to order it. I did have a the apple walnut salad which was very small but enjoyable. My husband had the stir fry with shrimp which he graciously shared with me and he still have enough to bring home for lunch the next day. The stir fry was so delicious. Full of mushrooms and veggies in a smokey savory sauce. Over all the meal was very nice. Staff friendly and the have a private parking as well. I wish I had taken photos! Our meal was $65. Which included.: 1 mixed drink 1 soft drink 1 salad 1 shrimp stir fry 20% gratuity.

Yelp
We've visited Ko Fusion several times over the years, and it used to be one of our go-to spots. Unfortunately, since their recent move to a new location, the atmosphere feels underwhelming and lacks the vibrancy it once had. We've also noticed changes to their menu, with smaller portions and higher prices. While we've enjoyed Ko Fusion in the past, these changes have made it unlikely we'll return.

Kaidyn W.

Yelp
I went in for orientation after having an interview with the manager, 60 minutes into my orientation, I was directed to bring a set of bags to the front to two customers and walk to the front and there is only one customer I walk back to ask my manager where the other customer is, without even answering the questions she told me to go home, basically telling me that I was the one wrong after she told me there were two people waiting for two bags, and she told me to go home, very unprofessional in my opinion, the ladys name is janet, and If you go in for interviewa or orienration just he aware of the unprofessionalism and judgement going on around in that "5 star restaurant " 5 STAR MY ASS

Sasha B.

Yelp
Only three stars for food, service and ambiance. We keep going back to Kofusion because we still like their Flaming Phoenix, and the Tiger Roll is pretty good. There aren't many places we trust to get sushi in CU, and that is the issue. We really miss the old location with its aquarium and the beaded curtain. We believe that the value is not what it should be. Just check out the current size of their salmon sashimi pieces. It is roughly a quarter of what you typically get in a sushi restaurant. Underwhelming! This restaurant is expensive, yet feels cheap. The sterile ambiance and lukewarm service only add to the sadness.

andy w.

Yelp
We tried some of the 1$ sushi rolls. California roll, Spicy crab and Coconut shrimp were really good value. We also had Rainbow roll and miso soup. The fish on the rainbow roll seemed a little thin so I think I would try a different roll next time. The miso soup was quite good. For some reason I did not get any wasabi? I guess you need to ask for it.

michelle d.

Yelp
Everything was so good. Excellent service and very friendly staff. My favorite sushi spot in Champaign IL.

Chris K.

Yelp
The food is pretty good, but this place is always more expensive than I feel is justified. I am happy to have them in downtown, but don't go there too often due to the price.

Brenda S.

Yelp
The food was delicious! We had reservations so had no trouble getting seated. Ambiance was good however it was very loud in there. We had a party of 6 beside us and they were very loud. The food was delicious. I ordered the coconut shrimp & mango roll. Parking is limited so carpool if possible.

Leyang Z.

Yelp
Great restaurant for having raw food such as nigiri and sashimi! I ordered a small sashimi combo and several single sashimi or nigiri. The meat tasted delicious and fresh and juicy. The service was real quick and I also like the decor of it very much. Perhaps they have the most modern decor among Champaign downtown restaurants? The price, however was not very friendly if considering the amount of food I got. Will return to try some of their kitchen entrée next time.

C E.

Yelp
The crème brûlée is all we had and it was phenomenal! Can't wait to return to this beautiful spot to try more of their menu.

Bob S.

Yelp
Visiting from Seattle to see my mom...Heard great things about this place, so we ordered out. I ordered the "Spicy" pork belly ramen, my mom ordered the vegetable stir fry with noodles. I picked up and the entrance was very nice and the hostess was great. Got home, and my ramen was all in one container, which meant there was literally zero broth left, it was all soaked up by the noodles. Imagine, expecting a delicious $26 ramen dish and finding there was no broth! GTFO. On top of that, the dish was completely bland. I ended up adding Sriracha and Gochujang, just for a sense of flavor. With that said, if pre-ground black pepper is your level of spice, this place would be right up your alley. Additionally, this was the absolute toughest pork belly I'd ever had. I had to go running for a dental pick immediately after eating. What the hell? $46 for this? A proper restaurant would give you the broth in one container, the noodles in another container, and the toppings in a third. For example, in any Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle Metro (which you can practically find on any street), you get everything separate, which leads to an amazing experience. We have this Mexican Birria place that has a Birria Ramen... You get one quart container of broth and meat, then in a large Styrofoam container you get the ramen, chopped cilantro, pickled red onions, and jalapenos. You get home, reheat the broth, mix it together, and bam... You're wondering where Mexican ramen has been all your life. My mom very much enjoyed her vegetable noodle dish. I tried it, and it was meh. You could "taste the wok", but that was pretty much it. No salt, no spices, no flavor. There was zero personality to the dish. Definitely not worth $50+ for takeout and tip. Try harder, Ko Fusion.

Helen W.

Yelp
The sushi is excellent! I only wish I could have tried more of the options. It's fresh; the rolls are well designed (lovely combinations!); and the plating is lovely. Even though we were tucked away in what felt like an overflow room, the service was prompt, courteous, friendly. As is always the case, sushi is a pricey option. But we knew that going in. It would be nice if they offered more than one (weird tasting) caffeine free tea option. But for those of us who can tolerate caffeine with dinner, the jasmine tea was lovely.

V P.

Yelp
Good food (all 3 dishes we tried - ramen, seafood noodle soup, bi bim bop), very nice ambience, and great service.

Deen S.

Yelp
The food was great, but the owner was WILD. She was screaming at employees until they were near tears. The atmosphere was nice, but that really threw me off. The server was super nice, but she seemed pretty put off by the owner. I'd probably eat here again, but if the owner/manager is reading this: treat your employees kinder! I've worked in service before, and nothing sucks more than a mean manager.

Chris D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and phenomenal food! The ramen with pork belly was just incredible! A must try restaurant if you're in the area!

Jason Z.

Yelp
Great variety of options on the menu. Solid food. Great drinks. Comfortable patio. A heated patio. Good music. Great staff. Within walking distance to many hotels. What else do you need? Maybe more wasabi?

Mya B.

Yelp
I usually don't leave bad reviews but this place was absolute garbage. We came here thinking it was similar to the Urbana location but was unpleasantly surprised when the food didn't match the "high end" vibe. Paid $60 for 2 bland rolls of sushi that felt like they were sitting out for the whole day, a 4 piece plate of chicken wings, 1 miso soup, and 1 drink. Felt absolutely down bad leaving this place wishing we just went to McDonald's lol. Staff were nice though, unfortunate the food wasn't.

Carlos Y.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with family on a Saturday night. Started out with sweet and spicy Korean chicken wing appetizers and vegetable tempura. The wings were very crispy and the sauce was as described and delicious. The tempura had a nice light crisp although the pieces were a bit small. For our entrees we had the sushi combo A, seafood noodle bowl and panang curry. The curry was probably the best of the group. I'm not the biggest fan of coconut but this coconut-curry combo was wonderful with a generous helping of chicken and vegetables. The noodle dish was also very nice with its seafood broth. The sushi selection on the other hand had some misses. The salmon was good and the other selections were ok. The yellowfin tuna however did not seem fresh and felt like grocery store sushi. The pieces themselves were well made and the rice was good so props to the sushi chef. The service was excellent. The ambience was nice indoor and outdoor. The food was mostly good however considering a lot of their menu deals with sushi I felt this was a disappointment. Overall it's good enough to return and try a few other selections.

Zachary L.

Yelp
Old sushi and really unrealiable quality. Ownership had too much money when they started and never passed it along to the staff or customers. Just ask some of their former staff about the company staff party and the delicacy fried Spam served to them. 50/50 chances of food poisoning.

Mike J.

Yelp
Not worth it. Overpriced, below average food quality. Okay service but for the price I had to pay, there are town lots of other choices around the area

Tia H.

Yelp
The food was fantastic, Jay was checking on us throughout the time we were there (which was a good long while, I wish I could have tipped better). One of those experiences that is so good that one forgets to take pictures (the sushi was perfect). The whole place was like a work of art, so beautiful

Carrie L.

Yelp
Food is just not up to the quality that is advertised, and the prices are more expensive than most sushi places you'd find in Chicago. I got the Chirashi, which on top of being more expensive than the listed price on the website, also had substantially less food. The ambience of the environment is nice and the service is fine, but if it was not for a group outing, I would not come back to eat.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Owner is charging an illegal tip out to the business of 6% of sale. Owners or supervisors are not allowed to receive tips- its illegal. Who do I contact for a complaint. The place would be great if the owner would chill out and stop giving servers such a hard time and yelling at them to the verge of tears.

Klaudia T.

Yelp
Service was absolutely horrid. Had 6 people in our party and all food came out at different times. Waited 30 minutes for a rib eye. IT WAS COLD. Included gratuity after our 6th party member did not it receive their order. This place is a joke. If you're in the area looking for somewhere to eat, go to Taco Bell instead.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Staff goes above and beyond. Fantastical food. From sushi to stir fry. Parking weirded me out, i was afraid i would be towed... but turns out you take a ticket, turn it in to server and they give you a token to get back out of parking lot. No towing needed

Khondker I.

Yelp
It was my 2nd check in today. I came here 2 years ago . It has a private parking next to the restaurant. This is very convenient for the customer. I had miso soup and apple kimchi for the appetizers. I took the combo sashimi and firecracker today. I loved the firecracker. It was spicy and I loved it. The presentation of food was great. This restaurant is very clean. Love the restroom too. I recommend this restaurant highly and definitely will go back for more

Dan Z.

Yelp
Horrible service and kitchen took over an hour to bring the food. All tables around us finished their meal while arriving after us...all before we received our order. We also ordered an entree with an item removed for allergies and 30 minutes after ordering they came back to say that was not something they would honor. No apology and then they had the nerve to charge for the entree that was never served. Won't be back.

Riyona A.

Yelp
Ended up here for date night and the food was delicious! Loved the flaming roll and we chose two others as well. The ambiance was very chill and the interior was super cute. We walked in without reservations and was seated with no issues. I will definitely be back!

Ben S.

Yelp
I got this app just to write a review... if this doesn't show how awful the service/food is then I'm not sure what does. Please never go here - there are probably 100 places next door or a few blocks down that are not only cheaper but probably give you the service someone would typically want at a restaurant. The owner is horribly rude to the employees as well as crazy to customers - hanging up on purpose multiple times and absolutely rude to every customer wanting a table even telling people their outfits were not fit for their high quality restaurant. WHAT?? I have never seen such a disservice at a restaurant and I hope they take their customers seriously in the future... as well as employees.

Laurita M.

Yelp
Interior is very nice and fancy. Sushi rolls are amazing! The main entrees were alright, simple dishes. It took 20 minutes for a waiter to greet us at our table, which was frustrating. Overall, would recommend to try it once but not a regular place.

Larry X.

Yelp
They changed to new location. Great decor. Food is still taste good. Service is great. Price is in high end

Daniela G.

Yelp
They brought me an old Sushi it took more than an hour to bring me the food and they didn't change it they made me sick. it was raw fish. the manager hung up the phone on me she wouldn't answer and she was too rude horrible restaurant and horrible service They don't care about making people sick they don't want to waste contaminated food
