I’ve Lived in Thailand for 12 Years and These Are My 6 Favorite Islands in the Country

"Koh Mook is known for Emerald Cave, a natural tunnel that connects the sea to an inland beach surrounded by towering karst on all sides, best reached by boat with a guide. Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort is a collection of cozy wood-frame bungalows just steps from the sea." - Jeninne Lee-St. John

We debated which island to stay on. We were very satisfied with ko muk (koh mook). It was a small island feel, lots of great restaurants, both on the beach and in the village. The tours were a great price form PK Tours, and locally run. The stores leave their doors open all night, and are very trusting and safe. There are several beaches, in additional to the pier. Very happy we choose to stay here.

Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing time on this island. Away from the city away and away from the crowds. Went during an off-peak season. It is quite something to fall asleep to the sound of waves (not the artifical ones being played over speakers, mind you) and then waking up to take a walk along the beach (the sand feels so fine! ) before catching the sunrise. I picked a spot on sivalai resort and it was kust an absolute treat. Pardon my photography skills though and hope i did my part to convince you to add this to your list of places to visit should u be a fan of the sun, the sea and the beach.

We did a trek from our hotel to the viewpoint. Took about an hour to reach the top. You can continue to sabai beach from there, which we did not do. A lot of mosquitoes once you enter the forest area. Made the walk difficult. Sadly a lot of the beaches in this island have sandflies. Never a pleasant experience when these are around.

Very unique island. If you really want little bit of local experience (whatever that means in these touristy places) then this is a place for you at least for a few nights. Only transport on this tiny island are motorbikes and special motorbikes for multiple people used as a taxi. There is nice track, beach and possibility of kayaking to emerald cave. Other than that there is nothing much to do. You can get here by long tail from trang or by speedboat from other islands. You can get from here by speed boat to ko lanta, phiphi, Phuket or krabi. The cons are: * A lot of thrash (this was the dirtiest place in Thailand we saw) * Many stray dogs that barke at night

Beautiful and still authentic Thai island. Great scenery view from the beaches around. It's a tropical island how you imagine it.

Gorgeous island - beautiful beaches and friendly people. Still pretty unspoilt with beachfront bungalows and great day trips. Especially recommend the Emerald Cave.

[LOW SEASON REVIEW] June long weekend -> still so empty! Felt like we had the island to ourselves. 5/5 for emerald cave, Charlie beach, Charlie beach restaurant and just going for a scooter ride / swim! Scooters from PK’s are awesome. 3/5 for food. Many restaurants are closed for low season. The food is pretty good (~4/5) for the ones open, but they are a bit pricy compared to Bangkok. The restaurant on Charlie beach IS great (5/5). 2/5 for nighttime. We were two girls travelling and our room had a locking problem (make sure your locks work before you realize at night)! There was a creepy singing man. Lots of dog noises. Huge storms and the structure we were in was not very convincing … luckily we didn’t get wet but we know of a traveller who did get wet in his room due to the rain. 4.5/5 for the weather! It’s hot but just hydrate! Rained at night but there was a good amount of sun and blue during the day :) ONLY ONE ATM ON THE ISLAND THAT SOMETIMES WORKS AND **EVERYTHING** RUNS ON CASH. HAVE EXTRA. There are parts of the island with a lot of trash during low season. Not everything will be cleanly beautiful. I think it is worth it to avoid the crowds and still experience the beauty / way of life. Emerald cave is a must. Charlie beach is a must. Beware of dogs. There are many, many of them and they will follow you. Locals are generally really friendly! Watch out at night though when everyone’s had a bit more to drink…

The beach in Ko Muk, Thailand, boasts a captivating atmosphere with its stunning natural beauty and serene surroundings. The crystal-clear waters and golden sands create a picturesque setting for relaxation. However, it's disheartening to witness the significant amount of garbage that tarnishes the beach, affecting the overall experience. Unfortunately, the lack of nearby accommodation options makes it challenging for visitors to fully enjoy and stay longer in this otherwise charming location. Environmental efforts and improved infrastructure could greatly enhance the appeal of this beach.
