"Open in one location or another since 1979, this Cherry Creek spot owes its longevity to its cozy old-school vibe — the tatami-style rooms are a major draw — and a menu with something for just about everyone. The sushi selection alone runs two pages, including the likes of California rolls with real crab and umeshiso maki, inexplicably hard to find in these parts." - Gigi Sukin, Ruth Tobias

AUTHENTIC JAPANESE cuisine!! Very good food and atmosphere - very laid back and relaxing we went with the tea room which does cost $10, but much worth it! Loved the croquettes, tempura, chicken skewers, Shabu-Shabu (getting to make it yourself was FUN!! 😋), also loved the tempura ice cream!!! Highly recommend this establishment and will be back again! 🥰

Wonderful experience. Service was great. Kimmie and Robert were friendly and the Food was amazing!!! Only suggestion I have is they may want to consider putting doors over the tea rooms for more privacy and slippers for customers who remove their shoes, so we can go to the other bathroom w/o having to put shoes back in. Otherwise, my wife and I had a great time for her Birthday and we will visit again! Thank You!

Google
I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately it did not happen. The quick and dirty. Long wait bad service, nice people. Order I thought would be traditional dishes that came out terrible and could be found at any amateur kitchen. There are other sushi restaurants in the area that unfortunately do it better. That’s not saying a lot. The long story…. The ambiance the space, as well as a few tatami rooms to enjoy. I believe we were there around 5:50-6ish. Eventually led to ice water menus were provided when we were seated. A few minutes in we were asked what else to drink, we ordered apps as well. And this is where the troubles started. We received our first round of drinks. About 620ish I finished my water 10mins passed I moved it to the outside portion of table. We did get to order our meals but no water. The other tables begin to fill as well as a few of the tatami’s. No apps still at this point. Around 640/645 rcved the apps. Other tables/ tatami received their first portions, soups, more water drinks etc. apps. The kara age was overcooked, and cooked in old oil. The takoyaki was more oil than flavor. Sad at this point. In my opinion the barometer of any Japanese restaurant, ruined. If they are listed as their specials then at any restaurant. At this point I asked for more water. My soda was empty as well. Did not get that filled, it was about 710. About a good 40mins just to get a water refill and I had to ask. Other tables/tatami that appeared later were already eating into their meals. Around 720 we finally received our three simple rolls. No soy, no mamezara for soy, had to ask for that as well. At this point I started noticing more active water pouring for all the tables. Had no food and we both were getting hangry. I still was without my plate, my friend waiting, picking at her sushi. (No need to be entirely rude) 730 maybe other tatami table received their full meal (I believe was sukiyaki or some form as they had a portable stove brought to them) and at this point were getting ready to leave. At this point I’m like let’s just call it. Still no main dish. Still no soda refill. When finally did get service it WAS to bring out my chicken and beef yakisoba. The ONE dish I wanted as I’ve been looking to find a more traditional version to eat since I lived in Japan. Hoping to find a restaurant that can get it right. Have yet to find one. NOT a single one. The dish is a quick dish normally found on the side in kitchen cars or konbinis throughout Japan. So to get this a hour and some into a meal and it not deliver. Sadness. The presentation was great it was like getting fajitas at a restaurant hearing the sizzle on the hot plate seeing the slight glances of smoke hit the lights and aroma. That first bite was the tang and what tasted like ketchup. The sizzle had faded just as fast as it moved from the kitchen door to the table. Sooo disappointed by it all. At this point I called over the waitress and asked for boxes (I can fix it. grew up in a house not to waste food) …I still had not received my side of fried rice that I thought we were not charged for(had to go back to pick up). We received the bill boxes had to go get a bag from the hostess to carry as we walked there from some shopping in the area. If the food was good I would not care about the service. But terrible service and unfortunately bad food. Maybe the dishes I ordered are just it. I ordered traditional Japanese dishes I thought that would be a toss up. I live in the area and thought to make it one of my regular spots to bring guest friends dates . But I just can’t I won’t. I really really wanted this place to be great; good even. Good luck so many great ratings and raves but my experience on a Sunday early night was not it.

Google
We had a good experience here for my daughter's birthday. We reserved one of the tatami tea rooms, and it was a fun experience. Her and I split the shabu shabu and it was plenty for both of us to enjoy. It was pretty bland, but the quality was good. My husband and other daughter each got ramen, which were also very large, but not as tasty as other authentic ramen we have had. Overall a good experience, but probably just a one time thing.

Natalia Patterson

Google
Book one of their tea rooms for a more authentic Japanese experience! The food was good and I would recommend trying one of the dishes that are not easy to find in Denver like Takoyaki (spherical octopus snack) or Tonkatsu (pork cutlet). Their Miso soup was the best we have ever had.

Google
We went here with some friends and ended up ordering so much food...with no regrets! Tried 3 different appetizers; multiple sushi trays and the chefs choice sashimi and then of course a dessert. Everything that was recommended to us by our server was delicious! Amazing food and wonderful service! We will be back!

This place is awesome. I felt like I was in Japan again. The food is absolutely amazing. The waiter was really cool and helpful too.

Google
I needed a sushi fix and Kobe An was there for me! Authentic decor supports friendly service and a quality menu. The eel and maki I ordered were delicious. Located in Cherry Creek, it's a perfect place to satisfy your sushi craving.

Yelp
A delicious Japanese restaurant I'm so happy I live pretty close to. Anyone who knows me knows I'm addicted to udon noodles and love to be near any place that does that well. Kobe An has delicious rice plates (katsu, curry), udon and appetizers. You can make reservations on OpenTable which is super helpful for avoiding waits or ensuring you have a spot on any given night. Kobe An has regular tables and more traditional Japanese tables where you will need to take your shoes off. The staff is attentive and helpful as there are a lot of options on their menu. I have come in on nights where the restaurant isn't extremely busy, so the atmosphere here when I've visited is calm and good for a conversation. I gravitate toward the Japanese hot dishes such as croquettes, udon and curries so I've had good experiences here. Udon is done especially well, as it's served in a pot with a delicious broth that measures up to udon restaurants I've eaten at in Seattle and Los Angeles. The portions here are pretty big so I've never walked out feeling hungry and probably have a take out bag. My only complaint is that their prices are on the higher side, with udon at $17 and sushi rolls at very similar prices to the higher end sushi places in town. Overall, I will continue to recommend Kobe An for the more traditional hot Japanese dishes.

Talisa D.

Yelp
High quality food but at a premium price. Price is fair for the quality. We enjoyed the sushi in particular and sitting in the Japanese floor seats. We didn't realize it cost $5 to sit on the floor, which is annoying since that is an attraction to go and thus shouldn't be an added cost.

Jessica M.

Yelp
It is not that Kobe An is bad by any means I just don't think it is all that great. (Insert your favorite shrug emoji here). I think Kobe An gets away with charging more for their food because of the atmosphere and the fact that they serve sushi in Cherry Creek. The atmosphere is cool and fun and probably the most impactful thing about the place. The semi private dining rooms for larger parties that are set in a Classical Japanese setting, with low tables and seating pillows, it leaves an impression even if you sit in one of the normal booths! The bamboo and tissue paper privacy screens everywhere, which yes, Definitely cool aesthetically. But, for me that is kind of where the "cool" of the place slows down. The sushi is fine, I have had better and I have had worse, we got two simple rolls a tuna and a yellow tail which were nothing to write home about in my opinion. We also got a ramen slider, which aesthetically was pretty and will make a great Instagram pic, on a taste range I would give a 4/5. I think it was the best thing I had all night. Honorable mention also goes to the miso soup which has crunchy delightful bits in it that leave you wanting another bowl. For mains we got the pan fried udon noodle dish with shrimp, which included maybe like 4 pieces of sad looking shriveled up shrimp that get forgotten at the bottom of a bag of frozen shrimp you buy at the grocery store for those "just in case" moments. As well as the pork katsu which was fine enough if not underwhelming with its lack of seasoning and a bit dry, the accompanying sauce was mandatory so you weren't chasing with your choice of sake or water. But the breading was crispy perfection, so I will give that a plus. I think this place at one time was probably amazing, it looks like it has been around a while, but I get the vibe that people come to Kobe An not because the food is phenomenal, but because the atmosphere is cool and seems like the food will be impressive. When in reality you get the check and blink a couple of times as say to yourself "I just spent $120 on food I honestly feel that I could have cooked better at home."

Yelp
bad. nuff said. Oh, I need 30 characters. Its bad. It's really bad. Bad bad bad. Did I mention its bad?

Neva E.

Yelp
I wish you were still in Lakewood. Ordered delivery everything, yes everything is so yummy. Goyza out of this world. Best Fried Rice, best Miso soup, best tempura. But my parking in Cherry Creek and getting down the status are pretty much kaput.

Molly M.

Yelp
Love the ambiance in the tea rooms. My son loves Japanese culture and was impressed by the look of the place. Food didn't blow me away but was pretty good. Had a bento box and miso soup. The bento was advertised to come with edamame but there were literally 4 in there, which seems pretty paltry. My son had pork ramen and it was delicious. Would definitely like to come back and try some other things on the menu!

Marcia R.

Yelp
Had a delightful time with family and friend. Our selections were varied and everyone (5 people) were pleased with how delicious it was. Service was very good and attentive Will return for another adventure in Japanese cuisine Marcia

Vanessa P.

Yelp
We enjoyed the food, ambience, authenticity, and service. So much so we went there twice in three weeks. Delicious and a variety of Japanese food combinations. We will definitely return when visiting Denver.

Yelp
* THIS IS MY FIRST YELP REVIEW EVER, AND FOR GOOD REASON. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DETAILS BEFORE GOING HERE. * When our waitress (who I believe was either the owner or manager) first came over, we asked her for recommendations on the menu. She said: "We have this, this, this, this, this, this, that, it's a huge menu it depends what you like. I wish I could answer." As I continued to try to ask her questions, she started turning her back and walking away, as if she had other higher priorities than helping us. I stopped her from walking away and we ordered the Sukiyaki and the Chef's Special Sashimi Plate, as we figured we couldn't go wrong with it. The first thing we got was the miso soup, and to be honest, this is some of the best miso soup I've ever had. Next, came the sashimi plate. I'm not going to say this is the worst fish I've ever had, but it's DEFINITELY the worst sashimi I've ever had, and it was $52. It had 6 different fish included, so we tried a couple of different ones, and ate about 1/3 of it. Our waitress asked us how it was and we told her that we didn't like it at all. Her response? "Oh, next time order sushi instead." The sukiyaki came next. We asked our server what we should do to eat it and she aggressively said "Just wait, I'll take care of it." We waited for her to leave and come back to our table again, and I asked her again "Do we just wait for the liquid to boil and then start eating?" She aggressively said again "just wait" - all I wanted to know is, for what?.. The busser then came to our table next, and so I asked the busser also, as our server clearly seemed like she was in a hurry. The busser started to answer the question, got about halfway through a sentence, and our server sprinted up next to her to talk over her and said "Oh she doesn't know what she's saying, she just busses the tables" and finished explaining it to us. OVERALL Miso Soup: 10/10 Sashimi Plate: 4/10 Sukiyaki: 10/10 Experience: 1/10 ITS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT BECAUSE MOST OF THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS, BUT THE OWNER / MANAGER WAS SO RUDE TO HER STAFF AND US, THAT WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK AGAIN.

Angela Y.

Yelp
When we entered the restaurant, it had some sort of smell, not sure what. Overall is quite clean though. It is on the pricey side. Fortunately we got $23 early bird dinner deal. I got sushi and my hub got teriyaki chicken. The portion is good. But my rice is a little dry. I tasted my hub's Gyoza and tempura. Gyoza was fried and filling wasn't tasty. Tempura skin is not crisp, but coating was not too think. It is just what I expected based on other's reviews on FB.

Yelp
Worst experience ever! Worst waiters ever! Why still work there if you are deaf??? Stand at the desk for mins, three ppl inside but just no one serves you even you ask loud

Bee W.

Yelp
Came down to try it but it's not open. On Yelp it's listed as being open for lunch on Sundays. Even their signage says so. But they're not. I think that's poor advertising and wasted our trip.

Kelly B.

Yelp
Didn't even know this place was here & I work in cherry creek! Our server was really friendly- we got a few sushi rolls and they were all tasty and fish tasted fresh. Overall a solid place to get sushi

Jen W.

Yelp
It's really the worst Japanese restaurant in Denver. Waiting for food takes forever and the quality of the food is below average.really not recommend on this one!

Chen-Tan L.

Yelp
We have been all over town looking for good Japanese food. Our previous favorite was Sushi Tazu in Cherry Creek (they're still very good). On a whim we decided to try this place for an early Sunday dinner around 6pm. Parking on the street is terrible as usual but at least free on Sundays when you find a spot. The ambiance: very nice and we were seated in a tatami room, low table for 4 with cushions and a nice cutout underneath for your legs. Our service was attentive, with great explanations. We ordered bento boxes, the Early Big Plate (hilarious name) and Sushi and Sashimi combo. The noodles were very good, the tempura and dipping sauce perfect, the tempura chicken perfectly done. And my sushi came in a cute boat. Portions were generous: much of it came home with us. We were excited to see Shabu Shabu and other items on the menu that we will be excited to try next time, as we will definitely be back.

Azure G.

Yelp
We enjoyed our experience at Kobe An (we sat in a traditional tea room which was lovely), and was excited to see they offered shabu shabu (will come back for that with friends/family post-COVID) but there was also room for improvement. Service was good, but our waitress was new and could not answer some of the questions about the menu I asked. I totally get that, but normally I would expect a new employee to ask a veteran employee for the answers and report back, which was not done (she did have someone come talk to us about my husbands allergies, so kudos there). My husband has some serious dietary restrictions and was limited only to the sushi, which he was pretty bummed about. Many restaurants are at least able to alter some menu items for him, but not here. Regarding the sushi, it was good, but same quality and more $ as some other nearby locations. I ordered ramen which was also just okay. I wanted more veggies and some tofu instead of pork, but the "veggies" consisted of a meagre amount of bean sprouts and scallions. The noodles were good at least. We loved the grilled jalapeno and spicy edamame appetizers. I also enjoyed my sake martini, but my husbands cocktail was far too sweet. Lastly, the décor. As I mentioned, we loved the tea room ($5 upcharge) and the entire restaurant had some beautiful things to look at, so no complaints there. Just not our place, I guess, which is a shame because I was really hoping to have found a ramen place to go to regularly!

Karen C.

Yelp
Cute, cozy restaurant with a great happy hour (5-6:30pm M-F) and excellent sushi. It was nice to go during cold evenings and get their shabu shabu ($29 for delicious beef that was way too much for one person and perfect to share!) And really liked the crunchy salmon roll (wish I ordered two). The owner (to me) seems very traditionally Japanese, explaining how I should prepare my shabu shabu. Always enjoy the polite experience and cozy ambiance.

Benjamin B.

Yelp
One of the worst dining experiences of my life. We decided to try Kobe An while visiting family. We are familiar with Japanese restaurants and looked forward to trying Kobe An out. Enter Alexandra, the rudest waitress you could imagine. Every visit to our table included a snide remark or insult from the very start. So, after finishing appetizers we stacked all the appetizer plates together to make it easier for her. When she returned, she scolded us for not keeping them to use (the dirty plates) with our entrees. When my fiancée asked for the same thing a second time after waiting a long time, Alexandra informed her "It's coming, lady." These kind of antics pursued throughout the night. Even when we asked to have a different waitress, the hostess came "to give us a hug" and the restaurant never honored our request. In addition, it tried to place a mandatory gratuity on the bill, which we had to get manually removed. Rudeness is not rewarded through tipping. Avoid this place until new management is found. The food is fine. The service is inexcusable.

Bryan B.

Yelp
We love Kobe An. They are so nice and the service is great. We go there for many family occasions. They always bend over backwards to accommodate us. Also the food is always excellent.

Jeannette C.

Yelp
The food is just ok, and the service is always really weird. Things take too long, servers look at you funny when you make normal request, like utensils for shabu shabu, or chishimi on the side, or the rice or miso that is supposed to come with your meal. Quality has gone down hill since covid too. The broccoli with my shabu shabu had brown spots. With several other better, nicer shabu shabu spots in town I won't be going here anymore.

Patrick B.

Yelp
Their shumai is excellent appetizers were great in fact. Their sushi rolls left a lot to be desired. They were tasteless and lacked excitement. They apparently don't like using ponzu sauce spicy Mayo etc. don't do the sushi here.

Noah S.

Yelp
Fantastic quality. I was genuinely impressed with their miso. One of the few Denver sushi locations with real fresh wasabi and buttery soft sashimi. Staff went above and beyond to ensure good service.

Brandon M.

Yelp
Two words for this place - very disgusting Nothing was good, food was cold, tables felt like we were on the high seas. Literally the worst restaurant I've ever been to

Benjamin M.

Yelp
I had an amazing time here with my girlfriend, we sat in one of the private rooms and our waitress was very kind! The food was wonderful: I got the Colorado trout and she got the udon. My fish was big and very flavorful, and her udon was very good too. I recommend the magic mushrooms and the momo tea, we got those too and they were delicious. I now know why some people are giving this place subpar reviews, we witnessed a very pretentious prick of a customer who was being very rude to her waitress because she was expecting perfect service. I don't know if people like her are common in the cherry creek area, but regardless - if you come here, please tip your waiter. They work hard and go through a lot. :)

Shuyun X.

Yelp
I've been craving ramen for a few days and this happened to be the closest place with it. I wanted to like this place so badly, but it did not meet my expectations. Service Credit goes where it's due. I went for lunch shortly after it opened at 1215. I was greeted warmed, seated, and served within seconds. The same person seemed to be doing multiple jobs but he did them all wonderfully. Price I paid $14 for a bowl of mediocre ramen. The worst part? The menu on the website has $9 listed for the item. Do not trust the menu listed on their own website. It is out of date. Food The ramen was okay. It wasn't good but it wasn't bad. However, for the price of the ramen, I would have expected a lot better. This review is solely for their ramen, which may be completely my own fault since the place seems to be better known for their sushi and other food items.

Scott T.

Yelp
I am posting this as a public service to my fellow human beings DON'T. The service was the only highlight of the meal. The rest was straight downhill from there. The sushi was clearly frozen and was awful, there is a Geneva convention against this kind of food and they broke it. The black cod appetizer was awful, the nigiri I did have I would have gladly paid double not to have eaten. We were the only ones at the restaurant on a Thursday night at 7PM so that should have given us the hint from jump street. I only wish I had listened to my wife and went to Shake Shack a few blocks away (she's usually on the money and this was no exception). Anyone who can with a straight face recommend this place clearly has never been to a sushi restaurant beyond the station at their local supermarket and I actually would have preferred that. Usually I pretty positive in my reviews but I felt it was my duty as a man to protect others from having a similar experience bad food and expensive.

Melissa Z.

Yelp
Poor service, took awhile to get everything. I understand its hard with a pandemic, but there was barely anyone there. The suki yaki was the only thing id come back for honestly. The sushi was fishy, rice didnt taste fresh. The salad and miso soup that came with the entrees were great, but everything else was meh. Plenty of other places to get suki yaki and better sushi than this place.

Carly W.

Yelp
I've been trying to find a good excuse to check out Kobe An since I tried them at the Cherry Creek North Food and Wine Festival. Well you know what..? Sushi. That's a good excuse as any, right?! Here's my break down: + The prices are super reasonable for what you get. They have a few different options for lunch specials. I chose the Deluxe Bento Box ($16 featuring Teriyaki Chicken, Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, Gyoza, Rice, Salad, and Miso) it was more than enough tasty food for me. + My server was very friendly and attentive. + The Spicy California Roll was spot on! I'll be back to sample some of their other sushi offerings. + The restaurant was a little dark, but the decor was nice and modern. Totally what I expected for a Japanese restaurant. They even have smaller "private" rooms off the main dinning area that you could reserve for larger groups. Nice for when you want to get a group together. Definitely going to be back when my next sushi craving strikes!

Yelp
Giving 1 star to one of my favorite restaurants in Denver makes me incredibly sad. I've been in multiple times over the last few years, I've brought several people in, and now they've gone back because of it. However, my experience Sunday, May 16th, was below sub-par, from the time we walked in, to the time we left. I made a reservation in open table 2 days prior, where I asked for a tea room. When we arrived, we were told all the tea rooms were full, and that there was no notes for it in my reservation, when there was.....the owner showed me when I left! So, we sat in a booth, and out server, Alexandra, I believe her name was, was incredibly rude. Upon our foods arrival, WHICH TOOK AN HOUR, she apparently was auctioning off our food, which, she shouldn't have needed to do, but what she was actually doing, was asking us who got what, and when we didn't answer, she yelled "GUYS!!!" Are you kidding me??? Then, when someone at the table asked if he needed a fork and knife for his tuna steak, her response was "well, I don't know DO you need a fork and knife?" She almost caught one right there. Then, we had to ask for our miso soup, which came with our meals, and was supposed to come before the meal. The best part, was when we told her about my severe shellfish allergy, and my vegetable tempura had a shrimp in it, that I bit into, not thinking, or paying attention, because......it was supposed to be all vegetables. Glad I didn't swallow it! I asked our server if they were short staffed, she said yes, but when I spoke with the owner to express my irritation, she told me our server wanted to take the extra tables. I'm not sure what was happening last night, but I'm not in a rush to come back, and it makes me sad, because it really had become one of my favorite eateries in the city, and I recommend it to literally everyone, even just for the sushi. Did I mention I initially had reservations elsewhere, and changed them to this place because I remembered my sister, who was visiting from out of state, loves sushi, and it was her birthday? One of the top 3 worst dining experiences I've ever had. I'm SUPER bummed.

Byron G.

Yelp
I was blown away by the fish in how it was prepared and how it tasted. They had many authentic attributes of fresh flake wasabi and other ingredients that it took me back to my multiple times in Japan. Also, great ambiance. Not to mention I saw one of the owners (Japanese lady) be really nice to her employee. Not to mention, had a great conversation with her. Great people.

Joe F.

Yelp
They contacted me a week later on Yelp saying it looks like they gave me the incorrect entree, promising to refund $20. That's the last I heard from them after providing them two ways to refund me. Either through the Yelp order number or via credit card. Never received a refund or follow up. That's simply insulting. Don't contact your customers for a bad review and them leave them hanging again.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
For now I am giving an A-Ok rating but hoping to go back and revisit this review! We came here for Valentine's day dinner looking to try something new as we our big loving sushi fans. Beautiful restaurant and extremely nice hostess and waiter. Their sushi menu had a lot of the typical sushi names and some unique ones. We ordered Crispy Dynamite Shrimp for an appetizer. They were just okay. You only get 3 of them and don't think they are worth the price. For Sushi we got the Bronco roll ( Tempura Salmon, Shrimp, Avocado) Served warm, bit bland but filling. Not really a fan. Salmon Crunch roll (Salmon, Asparagus, Tempura crunch, Honey) It was interesting combination of taste but still just okay. Now they do make a great Alaska roll (Salmon, Avocado, Masago) better than some others I have had. Over all I am looking forward to going back and trying some new things... Maybe we just didn't order the right stuff or what they are known for, but definitely want to give it another shot!

Bree P.

Yelp
Every time I come here the service and the food is absolutely wonderful. The staff are always friendly and professional reminding me of my days living in Japan. I love this restaurant so much for the food to the aesthetic. It truly feels as though I am back in Japan. The sushi is exactly the best I have ever had but between the atmosphere, service, and location, I would gladly come here again and again. The staff even speak in Japanese if you are a speaker of the language yourself. Highly recommend especially for a first date!

Angela D.

Yelp
I've been to Japan several times now, and I love sushi and traditional Japanese cuisine. Kobe An is probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Denver. The people who work here are Japanese, the owner is Japanese, and if you know anything about Japanese people, you know they are very caring and attentive. I've had great service here. Maybe other reviewers just had someone on their off day, but my opinion is that the waitstaff and owner really care about providing quality food and service. So far I have only tried the tempura and shabu shabu, which is so fun, and tastes like what I've had in Japan. It comes with all the traditional accompaniments and more, including different types of noodles and all the mushrooms and veggies. The tempura is also fresh tasting and lightly battered. They also have Japanese pickles which I absolutely LOVE mixed into the rice. I always order that to start. The decor is very nice with tatami mats and traditional seating. It feels like another world stepping down off the streets of cherry creek. I am looking forward to trying their sushi and other items on the menu.

J K.

Yelp
We went to happy hour and sorely disappointe. The bronco roll was gooey (tempura not fried) and the salmon avocado roll. The avocado was raw, which I had never had in any sushi restaurant in my life. I told the waitress we were disappointed and gave her the details, but she just said sorry and left the bill. Never again.

Shelby Nicole S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I just moved to Denver from Austin and found this spot close to our apartment. I feel the need to add this review because I saw negative comments about Alexandra, and I just had to say what a wonderful experience we had with her. She was super friendly from the start, and apologized when our food took a little long in the kitchen (due to a busy Saturday night). She was wonderful throughout our entire meal, and stayed to chat with us at the end to give us fun things to do around the city. The food was absolutely amazing, as was the service. 5 stars for Kobe An!

First entree dish came to our table one hour after we ordered on a night where only half of the tables were seated. Fish in the Seafood Tempura was not fresh. Sashimi combo was terrible. Unagi Don was too salty. Takoyaki balls were tasteless. Below average food quality and taste. Considering the price tag, I would say so far the worst Japanese restaurant that we had visited in the Denver area.

Yelp
Went in for carry out for the first time. I sat at the bar for a while waiting until someone came up, no big deal, but the place wasn't busy and a number of staff walked by and no one was working the bar. The sushi chef saw me sitting there and just walked by. Pretty easy to say hello and I'll let someone know you're here. I ordered miso soup, fermented vegetables and spring rolls for my wife and udon soup for myself. I asked if they could substitute the fried tempura shrimp with fresh shrimp and they said no, they could add more chicken. I told them to leave it the way they make it. While I waited I was going to have a beer, but a Stella on tap was $8. $4 or $5, OK, but $8, for a $1 draft, no thanks. When I got home, what I thought would be rice paper spring rolls, were greasy egg rolls. We called because e thought I ordered the wrong item, but were told that Japanese spring rolls are deep fried. I wish there would have been a description on the menu, as I did not realize there was a difference in spring rolls and Japanese spring rolls are essentially egg rolls. I mean if a Japanese hamburger was essentially a hot dog, would that be OK?

Yelp
It's Friday night and we selected Kobe An. We ordered appetizers and sushi. This is our last night in Denver and I'm excited. Here's a few pics of our food.

Yelp
Udon and yakitori not very tasty at all. Simple staples on the menu were way overpriced and we got the bill after waiting 20 min for dessert.

Yelp
Wow, finally a place in Denver where I can get home style Japanese food! They even have Tea rooms, which was a very cool change. I had Okonomiyaki and their Big Bento Dinner. Fantastic stuff! I only gave a 4 out of 5, as the chicken teriyaki was a bit too Americanized, but everything else was outstanding. I will definitely come back, and I'll try their purely Japanese food. I definitely want to try their Sushi, as their Salmon Sashimi was just as fresh as Sushi Yoshi. So. Damned. Good. The other huge plus is, most of their staff is Japanese. Nice to be able to hear Japanese spoken in a restaurant - it tells me authenticity, and they staff are all wonderful. Thank you for staying open so long!

Yelp
Terrible service! Maybe they think we wouldn't spend enough money on food. Two of us ordered food and waited for over an hour. The manager or owner blamed it on a large crowd that arrived way after we ordered our food. She also insisted that we should ordered as soon as we arrived! What happened to customer focus! That was our first time here and the last too. We canceled the orders and left with some tips for teas. Never go back!

Yelp
My fiancee and I were searching Yelp for some Japanese restaurants and came across Kobe An. Decided we would give them a try. It was about 2 hours before closing on Sunday afternoon and it was quiet. Entered and was immediately greeted and shown to our table. Really loved the decor and ambiance of this establishment from the beginning. She had the yakisoba with shrimp and I had the ramen. The ramen was the perfect temperature. Noodles didn't get swollen and too limp even when I had the last bite. Egg was soft and tender, broth was clean tasting, the bamboo was flavored and offered a different taste and texture that was great. The yakisoba was very flavorful. Vegetables still had a slight crispness and everything was well balanced. Our server was polite and friendly as well. Great experience.

Yelp
It was the worst restaurant I visited in 2019. Not sure how it can stay open in such a great area as cherry creek. The service: I felt like they did me a favor. The waitress had very minimal English and wasn't trained on basic customer service skills. The food- worst I ever had. I would say go to Chinese buffet instead. Greasy , lacking spices. Very bland. I ordered sushi roll- I got better at local supermarket. Would not recommended anyone

Yelp
I grew up eating Japanese food. I realized it had been years since I last ate sukiyaki, so I searched online. Kobe An came up. So my wife and I went to give it a try. Amazing. The sukiyaki was as authentic as it comes. It comes to the table ready to be cooked on a portable tabletop burner. Go with the lower priced beef add-on options to save a few bucks. The beef gyoza was also very delicious. Service was spot on; friendly and timely. And the restaurant itself practically transports you to Japan with its decor. Parking is not the greatest. The sushi is also good, but not great. Happy to support a local restaurant that serves good food. So this is basically a 4.5 star review, but in this case we round up.

Yelp
Itadakimasu! This place is just wow! I truly felt like I stepped into Japan during the duration of the dinner! After hearing about this restaurant from some friends, I decided to make a reservation for it. After all, finding good shabu shabu in Colorado is next to impossible. Well, behold yelpers! This restaurant has brought successful shabu shabu to our beloved mile high! When you first walk in you feel as though they brought a little of Japan to this place! The decorations, the ambiance, and the use of space all resembled a traditional Japanese restaurant. As we were being seated, I asked for something I saw in their photos, a tatami room! It's a small enclosed room where you sit down crisscross on the floor! Traditional indeed! This really brought some authenticity to the restaurant. The shabu shabu and sukiyaki with wagyu beef was on point! Gotta know what you're doing as you boil your stuff so make sure you ask your server if you don't know how! It just melts in your mouth guys! So where are we? 1 out of 1 star for ambience. 1 out of 1 star for cleanliness. 1 out of 1 star for customer service. 2 out of 2 stars for food. Very good everyone! I would definitely return when the feel for Japan hits my appetite. Check this place out! With that, cheers everyone. Till next time!

Yelp
As someone that's visited and lived in Japan, to me for Denver, Kobe An is as good as it gets. I've been to other Japanese restaurants in the area but nothing compares. Establishment - Kobe An is owned by a Japanese woman from Kobe. She is amazing and cares a lot about the food, atmosphere, and people who walk through her doors. She even takes time to speak with me (in Japanese!) when I visit with my husband or friends. It's clean, well-kept, ambient, and even has some traditional tea rooms for seating. Service - Service here is always good. Depending on how busy it is, it may be a bit slow, but that's expected. The staff are all attentive and put their best foot forward to make sure you have a great experience. Food - Out of this world. It makes me feel like I'm back in Japan, and it offers regional (from Kobe) variations of food, including a few things you don't see in the States often, like Okonomiyaki (think of it like a savory pancake). I haven't had a single thing here I don't like, but I suggest you get the miso soup (it's the best miso soup I've ever had, even counting Japan itself) and the sushi, okonomiyaki, or hot pot. Please come here. Show the place love, and it will love you in return. It's the best Japanese restaurant in Denver and full of friendliness and great food. Thank you to the staff for a great place to experience some Japan.

Yelp
I don't usually write Yelp reviews but after my experience here, it is definitely warranted. I ordered the Salmon Sunrise roll, 2 pieces of shrimp nigiri, and 2 pieces of salmon belly nigiri. I live just 2 blocks away so I decided to walk over and pick it up. Upon walking in I see nobody. No big deal I guess, then suddenly a hostess comes out and just stares at me. She says "What is it?" to which I respond: "I'm here for a GrubHub pickup" She points to a bag says "right there" and begins to walk away. At this point I'm a little thrown off but whatever, but next I asked if there is a receipt... She looks at me and just says "why do you need that? go!" before grabbing the food in my hand and angrily saying "don't shake it! we made it look nice", looking at me like I was some type of child. At this point I say again, "Oh sorry. So do you not give receipts or is it because this was a GrubHub order or...?" and she just stares before saying "what does a driver need with a receipt?!" At this point I feel it's necessary to add that I am a black male and it was at this moment I started to realize what was going on. A black man walks into her store, she automatically assumes I am a GrubHub delivery driver and was unbelievably disrespectful. I guess at this point the look of confusion on my face at her response made things click in her head as well. Her face goes from angry and pissed off to that oh shit look we all can identify. She says "You're a GrubHub driver right?" to which I of course respond "uhh... no" and she immediately begins smiling and trying to play things off cool. (without once apologizing). After being snappy from the second I walked in before even saying anything, it is pretty clear the type of person she is. You can tell a lot by how people treat people they think are beneath them... I think the worst part about this whole experience was getting back to my apartment with my food. I opened it and it smelled a little off. I figured it was just the strong smell coming from the shrimp heads that I guess came with my order. I avoided eating them and just had part of the roll and some of the nigiri before feeling nauseated and eventually having to run to the restroom. If the awful and downright disgraceful service wasn't already enough for me to decide not to return, the bad sushi that made me nauseous, then left me in the bathroom for a while after definitely assured me that considering Kobe An was a total waste of time and money. No apology after a rude and racist encounter coupled with sickening sushi. INCREDIBLE. There are plenty of other, more respectable places in the area. I highly recommend you try those out instead.

Yelp
unfortunately it was my first time visiting this restaurant, ordered blackened tuna , either the chef did not know what they were doing , but I got a very very dry piece of tuna , I took one bite had my significant other take a bite and neither of us wanted it , dry and chewy fish not ok , I asked for a discount. I should of just stated I was not paying for it , hthey stated no, karage chicken also extremely dry , the bean sprouts that I got with my dinner looked in bad quality , something I would off tossed out had it been in my fridge. Did not even touch it . Im just glad I did not order the steak. Truly disappointed, the manager should of came out and at least inspected the dish before saying no, and truthfully I should not been as nice to ask for a discount. I should of sent the fish back and stated i would not pay for it .Everything else was not bad but not great either.
