"Head here for modern Japanese cuisine. The trendy decor and lively ambience extend over two floors, with diners able to choose from a wide range of sushi options, as well as meat dishes and light bites. Some dishes are cooked on the open charcoal grill." - Michelin Inspector

Very trendy Asian restaurant with lovely cuisine and excellent location. Reminded me of a small Zuma. The staff was very professional and accommodating for our Birthday dinner. The sushi and appetizers were made with perfection and Love. Many food options for everyone. Absolutely recommended!

The service was excellent, cannot say a single bad thing. A very rare experience service-wise in Munich. Special thanks to the blond waitress which attended to our table. The two other people were super friendly as well. The service was also quick and so attentive, thank you! Now to the food: we were a bit disappointed, to be honest. With the prices that high, something was lacking. Though we cannot say it was not tasty, it was, it just was not 5 out of 5. The presentation definitely was 5 out of 5, see the photos. My husband had a miso soup, and he loved it, I tried a bit, it was too sweet for me (but then again, it is a matter of taste). The tuna tatar was very good, but! It was placed on a square of rice, which was just too sweet, and the taste was overpowering. You could not taste the actual tatar. Black Angus was cooked perfectly, medium rare, just as my husband requested, but! there were just too many sesame seeds (mind you, we love them), and their taste was overpowering. The radish was a bit bland. The miso black cod was cooked to perfection, was literally melting in your mouth, yet, sesame seeds a bit too many, again. We also had shrimp tempura, which was good, but nothing special. The desert was very good, though quite pricy (16 euro). The locations is very central, easy to get to, the atmosphere inside quite pleasant, music nice, not too loud. However: a bit too dark to my taste, I could hardy read the menu, and a huge minus point, when reserving a table, I indicated it was our anniversary, and we were placed close to a shelf with menus, cutlery etc, so the service was next to me and behind me quite a lot. Not an ideal spot to celebrate a special day.

Very helpful waiters, the food was very good and beautifully arranged! And if you sit at the right spot you can watch the chefs cook :)

We had a fantastic experience! Service was great and our waitress was helpful and familiar with the items on the menu which led to great recommendations. The Japanese fusion experience was great and the place had a nice and trendy vibe located in the heart of the city. We booked prior to coming on a weekday evening.

The Sushi was delicious, but I’ve had better ones (especially the tartar was only okay). The service was friendly but too motivated. Every 2 minutes someone was coming up and asking if we want sth else, if everything is ok etc. While I appreciate an attentive service, this was too much. I enjoyed the dinner, but for this price I know better ones.

I had reserved a table for 6 persons on Friday evening and had to reschedule, which was not a problem. The staff was very kind and professional in handling the situation. The food and the atmosphere were good, although the restroom could be a bit messy. Overall, we had a great time there. Thank you to the staff for taking such good care of us.

Amazing location, very good choice of food, the food arrived very fast after ordering. Staff was very helpful with the choices of meals and overall experience was great! If you want a good place with fresh sushi and oriental cuisine this is the best!

Excellent food and drinks! We had Sushi and it was fantastic👌 A birthday surprise dessert at the end made it a 💯. Very friendly and polite service staff!! Clear recommendation. We went on a Tuesday, at 6pm.

Yelp
Asia-inspired cuisine, capitalizing on its location both geographically and on its recognition within Munich. Cooking and food quality isn't quite living up to the high prices charged, unfortunately. Not much innovation in terms of ambience, presentation, and dishes. Personal friendly service.

Yelp
Horrible service, the manager referred to me as a krout after I showered him hair in my food and how they completely disregarded my allergies. Overall this was criminal and won't ever recommend or step foot is this establishment again!

Yelp
Wife and I were in Munich for a few days and the concierge at Sofitel told us to go here. Calamari was great. Also had the Blue fin tuna tuna plate.

Yelp
Very good food, professional service, elegant place with great atmosphere and music. One of my favorite Japanese places in Munich.

Yelp
I was disappointed. We had larger party so the food was preset. Service was bad and food (salmon and beef) over cooked and too much of the same sauce. I wish I could have ordered my own sushi. The sushi dishes were the best of the bunch.

Yelp
Koi was really quite good, but as others have noted, at its price point a decidedly five star experience is not an unreasonable expectation. When we arrived, we were promptly seated by a window, which I had requested in our online reservation -- what a nice surprise! I don't think I've ever had one of those requests honored. The ambiance (decor, lighting, music, general vibe of the staff) were absolutely five stars, as others have noted. Our waiter arrived after just a moment to inquire about what kind of water we would like. He didn't have much English -- and it is certainly not our expectation when traveling abroad that the waitstaff will speak English -- but again, this meal was €€€€, so a superior level of service is expected (and overall, was delivered). He was kindly receptive to our broken German. The meal itself was very good but had some room for improvement. From the start, I noticed we were supplied with metal chopsticks, which I detest. These have little friction and tend to taper too sharply at the tips, both qualities that decrease their gripping power. Next, we ordered a bottle of junmai daiginjo sake, which was delicious but kept on ice at the tableside throughout the meal -- too cold to allow its flavors to come out, in my opinion. We began our meal with the spicy tuna and salmon tartare from the menu, and a grilled crab special. The tartare portions came on a small cube of fried rice, which was a nice touch, but we found that this lacked much flavor complexity and was a bit too crispy -- this only compounded the difficulty in grasping it with our metal chopsticks. The tuna was better than the salmon, but both cried out for some form of acid to cut the savory character of the fatty fish and rich sauce. Something, anything with rice vinegar (ponzu-esque) would have done the trick. The grilled crab arrived a short time later and was accompanied by a wedge of lime, which we commandeered for the remaining tartare. The crab was fresh and simply prepared to highlight this. It was served with a small bowl of clarified butter and a sort of ?teriyaki sauce (good, but not especially memorable). After the crab our plates were exchanged as I had hoped given that we were switching to the (Australian) Wagyu beef. However, our chopsticks were not, and on my first bite of beef I had an unexpected and unpleasant crab flavor. The beef was also simply prepared, well peppered and cooked medium rare as we had requested. It too was served with a butter-based sauce. This seemed to make sense but overall we were left wanting at least the option of adding some acid. The wild mushroom salad that we ordered along with the beef provided some of this and was *outstanding,* probably the highlight of the meal. We didn't quite finish the beef or salad and asked for a container to take it with. The waiter seemed non-plussed by this request, but obliged. Hey man, that's like $40 worth of beef! He attentively kept our sake glasses full and did not rush us to cash out. Overall, I'd honestly go back here just for the mushroom salad and the ambiance -- but I'm not sure the restaurant would be thrilled about that. I acknowledge that many of the comments above are a question of "style," but I humbly offer them to the management nonetheless. If you are feeling spendy, I do highly recommend giving Koi a try.

Yelp
The food here was surprisingly great - I've lived in Japan and have access to great Japanese food in San Francisco all day, everyday, so the fact that this held up to someone who knows Japanese food I think is a good vote in it's favor. Wouldn't say the service or the bar set up is 4-star worthy (more on that below) but for the food it's a stellar yes. Please note, I don't each seafood, so this review will only be for the Ryobata menu, which is a very specific type of grilled meats cuisine that is very popular in Japan. Koi Pop Corn - basically puffed corn that is fried and battered in tempura - incredible flavor and was a table favorite. Gyoza Dumplings - soooo good that we ordered another set. Perfectly moist, almost soupy inside, but with the right crispy shell in the middle and on the edges. Quite possibly the most perfectly cooked gyoza that I've seen outside of Japan. Yakitori - it was OK, chicken is too easy to cook at home so I rarely wax poetic about a chicken dish at any restaurant unless it was out of this world. Salad - I think we had the spinach salad, though it's hard to recall. Either way, it was tasty! Black Angus Gyuniku - AMAZING AMAZING, perfectly cooked rare and the Yuzu butter is delightful. Delightful. We put it on several other meats Wagyu Rinderfilet - we decided to step it up a notch and go for the big dish. Here's the thing, Wagyu beef is rarely worth the cost. While it was delicious, you're better off ordering the regular Black Angus dish here. Not as great of flavor as the above mentioned and with the cost you could order two Black Angus! The ONE downside to this place is it's bar and booze selection. They had terrible whiskey options, which is very odd for a Japanese restaurant. Absolutely no bourbons and fairly heavy on the scotch side with only 3-4 options. They couldn't make a mojito either, tried to and it tasted absolutely terrible as they didn't have rum. No rum at a restaurant that serves hard alcohol?!? REALLY STRANGE. I ended up drinking vodka with Coke as that was about the best I could get. All their drinks were very fruity based and that just wasn't something that was interesting to me or anyone else in our group. The service was also pretty meh. The bartender had to come out from the bar and work with us on drink selections, because the staff didn't know anything about their selection. There wasn't an assigned waiter for us, which is fine, but it was hard to get the attention of someone. Seems like they had some new restaurant kinks that needed to be worked out.

Yelp
Really great venue and no complaints about the service. Our sake was fantastic. The food was disappointing. Our sushi was like grocery store sushi, the edamame was over salted surprisingly (it was hard to eat), and the king fish was fishy! Shishito peppers and pork ribs I would recommend. Overall I won't go back, but it was nice to try it.

Yelp
Ate outside by the Maximilln statue in the courtyard and the weather was fantastic! Now for the food...Tuna Tartar was fantastic and better than Nobu and many other places. The Spare Ribs were excellent. The balance of the food was good, not great, but definitely not bad. If you enjoy Nobu, you may just say it is so so but against anything else it is very well done. Had a great Riesling that cut through the spice of garlic and chili edamame and the miso sauce on the ribs. Just fantastic and under 100€ Great dinner and even better service - recommend you come and test the menu. Nothing is bad and some things are exceptional.

Yelp
This place used to be quite good but has gone seriously downhill. The sushi smells, it's not fresh - I wouldn't let my daughter eat it. And this has been the last three times we were there. Service hit or miss. Cooked food still pretty good but a bit too saucy for my liking which usually means they are hiding lower quality ingredients. Price far too high for the quality - approx. 100 euros per person! When you can get fresher sushi at sushi shops on Leopoldstrasse in a pre-prepared box! I can no longer recommend. Try Emiko instead for top quality Japanese food and salmon nigiri with zero smell.

Yelp
I liked the atmosphere and the food but very disliked the prices. If everything would have been perfect than go for the real expensive prices, I don't mind. BUT a very smelly toilet which can be smelled within the dining area is a little bit too much for a restaurant that serves that kind food on that kind of prices. If they get that one figured out, they would get five stars all the way!

Yelp
The food was excellent. But, the service was horrible. The wait staff was grossly understaffed. Not all speak German well and they had attitudes . And, when faced with questions, they shuned us and delevired poor service. In fact, they made us wait 1 hour for dessert....completely unacceptable, after giving our table of six 1 dessert menu to share.
