We had an amazing omakase experience at Koizen. Chef John is amazingly skilled and knowledgeable, and guides you through the experience, explaining the food and giving helpful hints on how best to enjoy it. It was very enjoyable to simply watch him prepare the fish, and the tastes of course were absolutely delicious. The dishes were varied, each with a distinct taste, and all super enjoyable.
Expect to pay around 2,000kr per person - the omakase itself is 1,200kr, and we paid extra for the bluefin tuna courses which was on offer especially when we visited. We chose the wine pairing as well, which was nice but also a bit pricey at 850kr. There's also a sake pairing available.
Service was super friendly and catered to every preference. The ambience is intimate and quiet, but not too quiet, some soft jazz plays in the background and it lends itself well to quiet conversation. There are 10 seats at the bar, and another 4 at separate tables. Interior decoration is minimalist but beautiful.
It's an expensive meal as you might expect, suitable for a special treat only, but we left feeling it was thoroughly worth it for a terrific experience, ambience, and food. Hoping to visit again soon!
