"Just a stone’s throw from the Gothenburg Natural History Museum and Slottsskogen park, is this 22-seater Japanese restaurant comprising a counter and two high-level tables. It’s owned and run by John and Alven Chu, who offer an omakase experience encompassing appetisers, sashimi, nigiri, aburi nigiri, soup and dessert – as well as monthly special events featuring the likes of bluefin tuna or Wagyu beef. John carefully crafts the dishes in front of you, presenting them along with an explanation of their make-up, while Alven recommends Japanese drinks, sakes by the glass and even sake pairings." - Michelin Inspector

An unforgettable experience. Chef John guided us through an extraordinary journey of flavors, delighting us with his mastery and preparing each dish right before our eyes with top-quality ingredients. His wife Teresa was equally amazing: she welcomed us with warmth and introduced us to the world of sake, which I highly recommend exploring. I left Koizen truly happy and aware that it will be hard to find flavors like these anywhere else. Treat yourself and don’t miss this unique experience!

We had the most amazing evening at Koizen. Such a great experience, the food was incredible, around 17 courses and all made in front of our eyes. Chef Paul and his team were so tentative and gave us an authentic and intimate 3 hour dining experience.

We had an amazing omakase experience at Koizen. Chef John is amazingly skilled and knowledgeable, and guides you through the experience, explaining the food and giving helpful hints on how best to enjoy it. It was very enjoyable to simply watch him prepare the fish, and the tastes of course were absolutely delicious. The dishes were varied, each with a distinct taste, and all super enjoyable. Expect to pay around 2,000kr per person - the omakase itself is 1,200kr, and we paid extra for the bluefin tuna courses which was on offer especially when we visited. We chose the wine pairing as well, which was nice but also a bit pricey at 850kr. There's also a sake pairing available. Service was super friendly and catered to every preference. The ambience is intimate and quiet, but not too quiet, some soft jazz plays in the background and it lends itself well to quiet conversation. There are 10 seats at the bar, and another 4 at separate tables. Interior decoration is minimalist but beautiful. It's an expensive meal as you might expect, suitable for a special treat only, but we left feeling it was thoroughly worth it for a terrific experience, ambience, and food. Hoping to visit again soon!

Koizen remains being one of my favourite restaurant in town: not only because of the quality of food, but also the creativity and execution. The sake paring is also excellent!

Koizen serves amazing Japanese food and John's passion is transferred onto your plate. The service is super friendly as well. They source their ingredients as delicately as they plate each dish. Would definitely go back here.

We went to Koizen for my birthday after a friend recommended it, and we were absolutely delighted. It was our first time experiencing omakase, and we loved every moment of it. The flavours were fresh, delicate, and unlike any we’ve had before. The candle in my dessert and the birthday song were such thoughtful touches. We’d recommend it 100%!

The establishment is small in size creating a very personal and cozy atmosphere enhanced by the decor. Almost all of the dishes are prepared by the chef in front of your eyes, apart from some that need warm/heated preparation. There is a gentleness and precision in what you as a guest see. The food is top notch, with a variety of sources, textures and paired with sake or other drinks as of your choosing. Will visit again...and again.
