Always happy to support a small, local business, overall my experience at Koji Katsu was kind of mixed.
The portion sizes are a definite highlight. They are very generous for the price, which makes it a good value. The yuzu sauce for the shrimp katsu was outstanding; it was a perfect, tangy complement that really elevated the dish.
However, there were a few things that took away from the experience. The miso soup lacked flavor and tasted watered down; it could use more miso paste or seasoning in my opinion. I also felt the oil used for frying needed to be changed more often, as it gave the food a slightly off taste.
I would caution against going on a hot day. It gets uncomfortably hot inside the restaurant, which made for a less than pleasant dining experience.
Service was not bad, I wouldn’t say the server was particularly attentive, but when asking for water refills or the sauce for the cabbage salad they did get it fairly quickly.
Overall, it's an okay spot, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made.
