Kokin - Review - Stratford - London - The Infatuation

"Kokin in Stratford is a Japanese restaurant on the seventh floor of The Stratford Hotel, with a wood-fire set-up, sweeping views, and a sushi bar. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sinéad Cranna

Had lunch at Kokin after a day at Stratford Westfield and was genuinely impressed. Hidden on the 7th floor of The Stratford Hotel, the calm wabi-sabi space and bright natural light set the perfect tone. The Japanese assorted starter platter was beautiful and seasonal, with standout silky tofu and a rich eel chawanmushi. The Grilled Wagyu Set was excellent—the A5 wagyu melted like soft, buttery chocolate, and everything from the karaage to the sashimi was fresh and well-balanced. The Chirashi Set was generous and delicious, with sweet tuna and popping salmon roe. The okonomiyaki was comforting and topped with a gooey duck egg. Great value for lunch, refined flavors, and thoughtful presentation. Would definitely return.

Dinner at 📍Kokin, Straford on the 7th floor of The Stratford hotel. Wood fire inspired Japanese dishes with a focus on sustainable blue fin tuna. The smoke could be tasted in every course and bringing an extra dimension of savouriness where you wouldn’t expect them. Most dishes were beautifully presented and well executed. We loved the starter platter which had a good variety of dishes. The sushi and sashimi tasted very fresh with the option to try wood fired smoked sushi rice. We paired this with bolder flavours so as not to overpower the more delicate. The chicken dish was surprisingly the favourite with a deliciously rich egg yolk sauce. The tuna collar was the reason for my visit and did not disappoint. For me, the sauces were too strong and over seasoned the cod and tuna dishes. The dining room was spacious and airy and service was great. We did have to wait a while for the sushi as it was made to order but the staff were very apologetic. Overall a great experience and I hope to try their tuna carving events soon. #japanesefood #woodfire #london #sushi #foodtok

Absolutely stunning food. All dishes so delicious. We have travelled around Japan, and this is the best Japanese food we’ve eaten in London. Better than Nobu. The staff were lovely - friendly and attentive. The price is high (for Stratford) but honestly the food is completely worth it. (Much better than Allegra, the previous restaurant here) Favourites - the miso back cod and tuna collar mains were outstanding. All the sashimi and sushi were super fresh and beautifully presented. Smoked sushi rice was inspired. The egg custard and eel starter was incredible. And you can’t beat a glass of Nyetimber sparkling. Thank you for a lovely evening. We’ll definitely be back.

Michelin level food with fair price. Japanese staff were welcoming, passionate and friendly, they do deserve the service charge. Excellent food, I ended up ordering additional dishes and drinks as each wood-fired dish was exceeding my expectations. Next time will try nigiri, sake and sweets. Looking forward to tuna showcase dinner.

Had an exceptional evening at Kokin at Stratford for their Whole Tuna Showcase Experience. The quality of the tuna was outstanding — so fresh, delicate, and beautifully presented. Watching the chef expertly carve the tuna was genuinely fascinating and added a real sense of occasion to the meal. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere elegant yet relaxed. A truly memorable dining experience — perfect for anyone who appreciates top-quality Japanese cuisine. Highly recommended.

Kokin was such a great experience. The food was super fresh, and the flavors blended together nicely without feeling heavy. The presentation was gorgeous, and the atmosphere felt classy but still quiet and comfortable, which made it easy to just relax and enjoy. The service really stood out too—friendly, attentive, and professional. I would definitely recommend the wagyu beef—it melted in my mouth! Honestly, everything from start to finish felt top notch, and I can’t wait to go back again.

We went there for lunch on Saturday, the Saturday lunch deal is quiet nice. We had order the assorted starter, nigiri sets and extra sashimi chutoro and salmon. Nigiri sets is nice, they pairing fish with different sauce like wasabi, ginger and yuzu. Assorted starter has own character. Home make tofu and the Saba sushi is my fav. Little bit more fav rather than soya sauce will be nice , at the end I find it is abit salty. Sashimi has kept the good standard with reasonable price. although I have higher expectation on medium fatty tune which they are famous in. Salmon is better than most local sushi restaurant. The atmosphere is pretty with nice view, there is a small outdoor garden that allow customer to visit. It will be a nice place to hang out with friend in good weather. Sashimi and oyster was a bit warm when served, I prefer raw seafood serve in cold.

Don't miss the 7th floor of The Stratford hotel, Autograph Collection! This place deserves much more recognition and more people should know and try here. The chef comes from Japan and worked in Michelin-starred restaurant. You can feel the experience behind the menu when you taste the plates. Vibe is cozy and chill. Don't forget to take a take a tour on the terrace!
