"Kokoda by Love Art is about to open in Boston’s Seaport District (53 Northern Avenue), starting with a bluefin-filled grand opening party on July 9 and regular business hours on July 11 and beyond. The restaurant features kokoda, a raw seafood dish from Fiji that draws comparisons to ceviche and poke, both of which can be found readily around Boston. Kokoda, though, and Fijian cuisine in general, is harder to find around here." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

This is beautiful shop nicely decorated, if you love sushi I’m sure you will love this place. They have many options on the menu.. I just wish there were more hot meat options. The only thing that is hot on the plate is maybe the rice. Overall the service is fast, the presentation is beautiful and the place is very nice. Check them out in Seaport.

Google
For about $16 you can get a terrible attempt at the idea of a pokebowl, unseasoned bad quality white rice, shoyu tuna is too salty, sushi rice isnt even an option - insane. Avoid this place. Atmosphere is good but bad food. Maybe just order a drink and chill for a bit. Anyone who says it’s good has never had an actual pokebowl.

Google
If you like sushi or healthy food go there located at the seaport, prices are affordable, everything is made fresh. Go to the second floor to relax in the meantime you can eat your lunch. There is food for everyone if you like spice go for it if you don't like spice go for it too. 🙂

Google
Really delicious food and it’s a full portion! My fav poke bowl place in Boston

Jea Kim

Google
One of my new favorite poke places in Boston. For the past two months, Kokoda has been my go-to spot for poke bowl cravings. Although their bowls don’t have any unconventional toppings or creative sauces, they strike the perfect balance between the salad and the protein portions. Two of my favorites are the Seaport special and the Crawfish party, and I would highly recommend getting the latter if you’re looking for a protein-rich bowl.

Google
Delicious fresh flavors. Super friendly staff. Added a Polynesian spin to the poke bowl trend that is popular across Boston. Feels like higher quality ingredients then most Boston poke. Absolutely delicious and would recommend! Get their catered bowls & they have veggie/gf options too!

Google
Build-your-own Poke is great (along with their set options), especially with their extensive menu of ingredients, and (better yet) a very reasonable price point. Their location in the Seaport nearby some of the most beautiful waterfront in the city, with public tables by the harbor, makes this a consistently great experience. Highly recommended!

Google
The build-your-own poké bowl is slightly cheaper here ($15 before tax and tip) than at other similar spots, but ultimately it isn't worth it. The regular bowl comes with 2 proteins, but their scoops of fish were very small. They also didn't have much sauce, so the white rice base was pretty bland. They even limit the number of non-fish toppings you can choose for free, and beyond that handful each topping comes with an additional cost. Overall, the bowl didn't taste anything like the Hawaiian flavors of poké, but like some whitewashed, knock-off version instead. There's not really any service, because you order at a machine/kiosk and just wait to pick up your food. Finally, there are only 2 small (2-person) tables and then the high bar with no seats. There are quite a few other food options in Seaport, especially on this block, so I wouldn't say it's worth it.

Yelp
This restaurant seemed small but has an upstairs for additional seating. Ordering is easy and they have a good selection of sushi bowls. I got the seaport special bowl and a peach black tea. Both were tasty. Prices were good. Good place to get a quick eat

Gloria M.

Yelp
Eh. So many onions for no reason. I just did not like that at all. The fish was good but was so overpowered by the onions on the Hawaiian Shoyu bowl. I enjoyed the seaport bowl but didn't like that it wasn't just chunks of fish it was a mix. The staff was friendly enough when we ordered. However, I will not be back

Lizzie Y.

Yelp
Kokoda in Seaport is a great place to for poke! Their fish is always fresh and bowls are super delicious. Sometimes I get one of their signature bowls and other times, I enjoy building my own. Last time I had Kokoda, I ordered delivery from Ubereats & I got two spicy tuna snack wraps + the Seaport special. I actually really enjoyed the spicy tuna snack wraps, especially with their spicy mayo dipping sauce. I liked the Seaport special, as well, but wished that they didn't use guacamole ("avocado mash"). I would've enjoyed it more if it was just avocado pieces/slices. There's already a bunch of flavors going on from the sauce drizzles & I think that they don't need to complicate the avocado any further... simpler would be better ;) Don't get me wrong, I do love guacamole, just not in my poke bowl. Aside from that, Kokoda is good place to go for poke!

Yelp
If you ever find yourself in Boston's Seaport and craving sushi, check this place out! With an adorable two-floor interior, this unassuming poke place has a wide range of premade bowls, make-your-own bowls, snack wraps, and more! We ordered the Seaport Special bowl, Hawaiian Shoyu bowl, the Lomi Lomi and Spicy Tuna snack wraps, and two drinks! The Seaport bowl came with salmon, tuna, avocado mash, corn, edamame, tomatoes and some sauces on top of rice and some greens. The quality of the fish was great but I didn't entirely love the combination of ingredients. I think it could've done without the tomatoes but overall good flavor! The Hawaiian Shoyu comes with tuna, onions, cucumber, and scallion on top of rice and greens as well. This was a little bland because there wasn't any sauce but tuna was still very fresh! The Spicy Tuna snack wrap was pretty standard but I was pleasantly surprised by the Lomi Lomi wrap! It came with chopped salmon, tomato, and onions. It almost tasted like a lox bagel wrap. We got both the Passionfruit Mangoade and Dragonfruit Lime Refreshers and they were delicious. My favorite was the Passionfruit Mangoade! Overall, I would definitely go again for a quick, fresh meal.

Yelp
Food: DELICIOUS, super fresh, and HUGE poke bowls! Everything was super high quality and made to perfection. Definitely, this is some of the best poke that I've had! Service: Food was really fast (I mean it is poke, haha), I also recommend the Jasmine green tea (unsweetened hehe). Ambiance: Store is cute, quiet, small (but has 2 floors of seating), but lots of natural light. It was nice and quiet on a Saturday at 3pm for a late lunch with friends. So glad I was able to check out this place on a Saturday, such a yummy poke spot!

Mimi C.

Yelp
I've seen a few IG influencers posting about this place so it intrigued me. I was in the area and needed something to eat quick (hangry mode). The atmosphere was very chill and the service was quick. I got the Ponzu Tofu bowl, a peach orchard black tea, and a salmon roll. The Ponzu Tofu bowl was full of flavor and it made it even better knowing it's a healthy alternative with all the veggies, tofu and brown rice. The peach orchard black tea was refreshing and wasn't too sweet. The salmon roll with the sauce was just divine. Overall, nice vibe, quick service, and super delicious food!

Lydia C.

Yelp
The poké bowl here may be slightly cheaper than elsewhere at $15 (before tax and tip), but it isn't worth it. The scoops of protein are small and they are so light on the sauce that the rest of the bowl is pretty bland. The flavors in general are whitewashed and not really Hawaiian. There are so many other food options in the neighborhood that you'd be better off going somewhere else.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday evening for dinner and we were the only ones in the space to start, but as our meal continued, more and more folks filed in. The upstairs seating area they had seemed decently full by the time we left so I'd say it felt lively towards the end of our dinner! This is a meal where you order at the front and pick it up when it's ready. The person at the cashier was kind and friendly with answering our questions about the menu and then our food came out relatively quickly after so it was pretty fast service wise. They have a diverse menu and I enjoyed the types of bowls we could choose from. I will say that I'm a salmon lover personally so it was a little disappointing to see that salmon was only in one of their house bowls, but that's just personal preference. The food had a great presentation when it did come out. Each bowl felt super dense as well and portion wise, it really was quite decent. Given how pricy this bowl was, I'm glad it lived up to the cost. I've gone to their Love Art Sushi location and often feel underwhelmed by the fish portion there - Kokoda definitely felt more satisfying to eat as there was plenty of fish/protein in both bowls. The drinks weren't as exciting as they didn't have the boba jelly they have at LAS, but they were pretty refreshing. You can kind of taste the powder in the matcha one, but I think I preferred that one since the mangoade was pretty sweet. I'll say that if you're looking for poké in the Seaport area, this spot is definitely not too bad. I'm unsure if I'll come back due to the prices, but the service and food itself tasted pretty good. Thanks for a delicious meal, Kokoda!

Meghan L.

Yelp
This is my first time trying Kokoda. The flavor of the bowls were good. I didn't like that they used regular white rice for the base, would much prefer sushi rice. The white rice was too mushy, probably used too much water to cook the rice. I also thought there were a bit too much sauce for the bowl everything was soggy. The salmon snack wrap was actually better than the bowls. They used sushi rice for them. The sushi rice was seasoned perfectly so you don't need any sauce. I tried it with Calamansi Verde sauce and I thought it was a bit gingery for my taste. Didn't go well with my salmon.

Amy Z.

Yelp
Stopped by Kokoda to get some dinner to-go. I am a big fan of the Love Art group's other stores, so had high hopes for this new concept. And those high hopes were met -- the ingredients was fresh / delicious and the bowls were filling (pretty good value, though $16 for a bowl is still steep). Highlights for me were the addictive Pina Colada Fresca drink and the subtle but fragrant coconut flavor in the ceviche / rice of the Fijian Kokoda bowl. Food 1. Fijian Kokoda (5/5) 2. Seaport Special (4.5/5) Drink 1. Pina Colada Fresca (5/5)

Yelp
The design of this cute little poké place immediately caught my eye, the food turned out to be just as good! I created my own custom bowl with 1 protein (and a bunch of other toppings), and the staff brought it out to me within just a couple minutes. The quality of the ingredients was definitely there for me, however, I wish I received more protein for the price. I got a pretty standard bowl for around $14, and I've definitely received more at other places in the past for that price. Regardless, it was still very tasty and left me satisfied!

Yelp
New poke place in Seaport! There is a second floor here and the restaurant has a tropical/beach house vibe. It was not too busy when I came here on a Friday night. The upstairs has some dining tables and the downstairs has a couple of bar seat areas. The service here is also very fast and the workers are very friendly. I got the Crawfish Party Bowl - WOW!! There's a lot of flavor in this and the crawfish tasted awesome. I think the peppers add a nice spice kick to this and compliments the crawfish well. The drinks here are also pretty good. My friend got a matcha tea and thought it was a good amount of matcha and wasn't too milky. I also got a passionfruit tea and it was flavorful as well, it did not have the perfume-y taste that most fruit teas have.

Angelina Z.

Yelp
Great spot for a filling bowl of poke with fresh ingredients! I ordered the salmon bowl, which was only $16--great price for Boston! I loved all the toppings the bowl came with, there was a great mix of savory and creamy and crunchy! The inside of the store is super cute; I loved the snacks offered at the front. There's not a lot of indoor seating, but there are a lot of tables outside.

Victoria T.

Yelp
Really good poke! Super fresh fish and HUGE portions. I got the seaport special bowl, which was ~$16. It was expensive, but they did give a lot of fish and avocado. My friend got a hawaiian shoyu classic bowl, which had a lot less ingredients in it, and tasted good but was too salty. The seaport bowl was def better.

Thanh L.

Yelp
This spot has some delicious poke bowl. The ingredients are fresh. The drinks were tasty. Definitely a good idea to try

Tyler M.

Yelp
Super fresh poke bowls with great Hawaiian flavors. Takeout was fast and still super fresh when it got here. Recommend for a quick bite ti eat and looking for a healthier option. Hawaiian bowl - 4/5

Alisa G.

Yelp
This wasn't the best poké place I've had around Boston, but it's still good! It's obviously in a great location in the city, at seaport, and the vibes inside are cute and trendy. I appreciated they had seating on the second floor, as well as right outside! I would say they had a decent selection of signature bowls, in addition to the build your own option of course. My boyfriend ordered the Seaport Special and it was delicious~ great deal for everything you get in it. I would probably order this next time. This time around I decided to build my own. I chose the pick 2, and got salmon and tuna~ basic, but both were very good and fresh. We found seats closer to the water and it was so lovely! I would definitely go back!

Emma T.

Yelp
This new poke restaurant just opened up in seaport. It's a bit different than your typical poke places. There is no food line that you can see and order as you go. You say what you would like from the beginning and then they make it and bring it out. They have lots of fun drinks that I didn't get to try. I got the ceviche and salmon bowl with lots of toppings. It was filling and satisfying. The reason I have docked a star is the price. I paid $20 for this bowl. I added seaweed salad, which was $2 extra and the ceviche was extra as well. Overall, it was really good and could've been cheaper if I didn't order premium items.

James M.

Yelp
Wanted to love it because I love poke and it's right near my apartment. However, I paid for premium ingredients (spicy chopped tuna) that weren't in my bowl. They also forgot several other ingredients. Slightly concerning, considering I entered my order on a kiosk, so there wasn't much room for misunderstanding my order. Disappointing.

Taylor S.

Yelp
Kokoda does a great job of integrating authentic poke into their menu that you would find in a local grocery store in Hawaii, which is where I was born and raised. They use the same "build your own bowl" style that is really common in the mainland, but the fish is cut into large cubes (more authentic) and tossed with more traditional sauce options (soy sauce, creamy spicy, etc) before the toppings. You can also get more traditional Hawaiian toppings like furikake, masago, and sweet onion. They also have a "by the pound" menu, which is personally what I'd go back for. It's the best value and the best option if you're going there for the quality of the fish, which was buttery and had a melt in your mouth texture. The only con is that it's Seaport pricing, but that can't be helped.

Justin L.

Yelp
I believe it's the same owners from love art sushi which I love! The person working was really nice and friendly it's really nice using the kiosks to order. I like the location because there's outdoor seating everywhere around seaport and you can even take it to the pier. I'm not sure which rice I chose but I wasn't really a fan out of. The texture was off and it was kind of hard and felt whole wheeaty!

Annie H.

Yelp
I've had love art sushi in the past and loved it so I was initially excited to try Kokoda for the first time. When you go on their website, they still have the promotional offer for the 1000 Maki Summer Giveaway. But after following their Instagram page & looking for details, I was informed in store that it's no longer available. They should work on keeping their platforms updated so customers don't end up disappointed. Additionally, when I ended up receiving my build-your-own bowl, I chose Shoyu marinade & the Spicy Mayo sauce with my bowl. I'm not sure if these flavors just don't complement each other but personally my bowl was really salty and it was hard to enjoy it. You could barely taste the Spicy Mayo, it just tasted like salt, no other flavors shined through. This is just my personal experience, but I'll probably stick to the other love art sushi chains before going to Kokoda again.

Fabi B.

Yelp
My friend recommended the place and it did not disappoint. This is definitely one of the top poke bowls I've tried so far. The flavors were great and there's a lot of variety. The service was quick and easy. I did the self service kiosk which was easy to manage. Although the restaurant is tiny, there's plenty of seating and it has a cute ambiance!

Mara B.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this new and fun take on Hawaiian poke! I ordered a classic Shoyu Ahi and a new Fijian Ahi bowl which came out to $37. They were both delicious, made with fresh, red, huge cubes of ahi that made me feel like I was in Hawaii. The Fijian was a bit more sweet than I prefer but I enjoyed the coconut milk twist. The Shoyu Ahi was savory and perfect for the hot summer day in Boston. If I had to change one thing, for $37, I'd like to have more pieces of fish in maybe smaller pieces to feel more full after. There we about 10-12 pieces of fish in the bowl. Overall, I would love to return to Kokoda and build my own bowl or try new flavors!

Elena P.

Yelp
One of the best poke I've ever tried Service -- 5/5, it was quick and I really liked that they have kiosks to order your food or even make your own poke and choose all the ingredients! Poke was delicious! The location of the place is also great, you can sit down inside, outside or order it to go and go to the park next to it and have your poke watching the river. Poke has a decent amount of seafood. The sauces were creamy and go well with white rice. I ordered multiple, one of them was garlic sesame. Highly recommend!

Whit A.

Yelp
Had a tasty, simple meal for a good price. Easy to get in and order in a busy neighborhood. Pleasant enough restaurant -- would be fine to sit and eat in, although I took my food back to the room.

Pooja S.

Yelp
An average place for poke Food: They have both make your own and preset poke bowls. The Seaport Special is pretty good- big chunks of tuna and salmon although the rice ratio is huge and takes away from the flavor If you are making your own bowl, do not get the marinade- the entire poke bowl becomes soupy. Or it could be from the ceviche, which was too fishy and not spectacular. The seaweed salad is extra as a topping but should be included Other: Friendly staff, fast service Cute upstairs seating Fast-casual vibe TLDR; Come here if you're in the area and want decent poke, otherwise other places may be better

Anna O.

Yelp
My favorite poke bowl place! I highly recommend it my fav is seaport bowl with extra lomi lomi!

Alyanna T.

Yelp
Was super excited for a new poke place! Stopped by shortly after Kokoda's grand opening, and would probably come back to try more of their signature bowls and traditional pokes. We got the hawaiian shoyu classic bowl and Fijian kokoda bowl, plus passionfruit mangoade and pina colada fresca - TASTE: 4/5 - the tuna and shoyu were good, but the ceviche and cilantro combo in the Fijian kokoda was excellent. Both drinks were sweet and hit the spot. We were sad that the dessert selections were sold out! TEXTURE: 4/5 - poke bowls are always perfect texture combos :) PRICE: 4/5 - $15 seems to be the standard for poke now SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - a bowl typically leaves me content (note: I thought the ratio was a little skewed to the rice here). We thought about getting another entree, but changed our minds! SERVICE: 4/5 - we came at around 6pm on a Wednesday night, and it wasn't too busy. Got our orders in under 10min, though they almost forgot our drinks ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - the place is cute and a nice change of pace in the Seaport scene! We ate outdoors in one of the new, hip seating parklets PARKING: 3/5 - as always, free parking can be tough in this area. We found street parking a few blocks over and walked

Brandon T.

Yelp
The quality of the fish and ingredients here are fresh and the bowls are flavorful and well put together, whether custom or premade. I also got a passionfruit lemonade that was super refreshing. However, my only criticism here is the actual quantity of fish itself, I understand the portion control here but even two or three more pieces would have balanced out the ratio to the rice which there was plentiful of. Also, charging for seaweed salad and crab makes me sad as many places provide it free of charge. In conclusion, I hate inflation.

Zack M.

Yelp
On the pricier side for a takeout bowl but I thought the quality was great. Super easy to order in the store with big menus and pictures of all the ingredients you can get in your bowl. Took about 10 minutes to come out but it was delicious. There are also a ton of interesting foreign snacks and drinks to try that I would have gotten if it wasn't so expensive already. The ceviche was delicious and unique that you can't find at ordinary poke places.

M K.

Yelp
I'm somewhat surprised at all of the good reviews. Maybe poke is the thing to get and not what I got. I got the sweet and spicy bowl with chicken. It was a lot of lettuce, rice, and sauce. There were little cubes of chicken and some avocado mash. The whole bowl was underwhelming and it was like $16. I might go back to try a different bowl or make my own but my first impression of their food is meh.

I R.

Yelp
Frankly, this was the worst poke I've ever had. Worst taste, worst value, worst experience. First, I made the mistake of using the standing order-screen on the right. I don't know if I pressed the wrong button or if the software is bad, but I was unable to pay by tapping or inserting my card and instead had to manually type in my debit card information. (I later saw the next customer have to do the same thing! Are we both ignorant or just unlucky?) I ordered the Hawaiian bowl which was basically a thin layer of white rice with sauce poured onto it, mixed greens that looked like it came out of a bag, cubes of raw tuna that were not marinated or mixed in sauce, and sliced cucumber and onions. It looked and tasted like a casual salad: one ingredient placed haphazardly on top of another. The sauce was not used in the usual (and crucial) way of mixing the fish and the sauce in a bowl together before adding it on top of the rice, so the flavors ended up being totally incoherent. Many bites of fish were dry and sauce-less, but at the bottom of the bowl, most bites of rice were too salty and over-saturated in sauce. I've never had a poke bowl taste like that. I paid $17.01 including tax and tip (10%), which is understandable for downtown Boston but not understandable for what I was given.

eileen b.

Yelp
The veggie power bowl is legitimately one of the worst things I have ever been served. I'm angry they serve this to people and think it is OK. Raw/unseasoned tofu, sour dressing, no salt, bad flavors. Just awful.

J. B.

Yelp
A very welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The fish looked and tasted quite fresh; I'd suggest doing double portion per order. They offer a ton of customizable options, which can add up, but a loaded-up bowl for ~$20 is more than fair. I appreciate the fact that they don't overdress the bowl w/ sauces, so you can still taste the freshness of the fish. Definitively order ahead though, as they are careful to construct a perfect bowl each time.

Daniel M.

Yelp
I ordered the sweet and spicy bowl which was delicious. There are so many other bowls I will be adding to this review as time goes on. The only complaint I had was there was too much sauce but it was good sauce.

Chris L.

Yelp
Love love the poke here. Fresh and chunky, I really love the custom bowls as their signatures are quite meh. Their seaport special bowl needs texture since it's all mashed - what are they thinking? It's like eating baby food. However, if you customize, you can get exactly what you want. I won't take points off for their signature but quality of ingredients. Sushi everywhere is expensive so a poke bowl at $16? That's a win. The owner and staff are also super nice. Don't forget to grab a passionfruit drink or their new Japanese boba, the ube is pretty popular but I'm a fan of the Assam.

Jc S.

Yelp
Businesses was great in the summer when the new manger chao wasn't there he ran business out food isn't great ether

Paul R.

Yelp
Your bowl of Kokoda (the namesake of your restaurant) is sadly not authentic. If you're going to use that name and claim Fijian make sure you are serving real Kokoda.

Richard L.

Yelp
Recently opened up in the Seaport area, Kokoda provides poke bowls with the freshest ingredients. I ordered the Seaport Special which has a mix of spicy chopped tuna, lomi lomi salmon and a variety of toppings. The fish was fresh, and the taste was amazing. I also got the iced kava matcha tea which, to me, felt like iced matcha tea with a little pizzazz. My friend got crawfish in his bowl and the meat was plump and fresh. The decor made it feel like I was visiting a local shop in Hawaii, adding to the overall experience. Definitely recommend.

Zack B.

Yelp
Food is usually tasty, but there was no one in there and I waited over 20 min to get my food. I often tip the guy and this time I didn't, I think they made my food last on purpose because I didn't tip.

Yancey Y.

Yelp
This place has great poke. I ordered on the computer in front and they immediately started making my bowl. It was easy to order and quickly made. Definitely will be coming back here.

Tavia Y.

Yelp
Saw this place as I was walking around the Seaport (so many new spots popping up there!), and decided to give it a shot based on the pics online. Was glad I did; very helpful customer service as the cashier walked me through which items were gluten free (celiac here) and popular. I got the Tahitian bowl and it was delicious! Fish was fresh and soft, and the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Would recommend for a nice lunch spot in the area.

Melissa C.

Yelp
Good service, friendly staff! What I ordered: Seaport Special Hawaiian Shoyu Ahi (1/2 lb) Passionfruit Mangoade What I'd order again: Seaport Special Passionfruit Mangoade

Ted T.

Yelp
Ordered seaport special- The worst poke bowl I had in Boston so far: Thick block of undercooked pressed rice is covered by a massive layer of spring greens - probably to make sue that no sauce will get in contact with the rice ever (still trying to understand the thinking behind this) Finally the fish on top of that is covered with a lot of sauce to mask the fact that the fish is far from fresh

Alexandra A.

Yelp
Save your money!!! Love art is way better and it's hard to believe it's part of the same chain. So much rice very little fish and and there's really no shoyu in the shoyu tuna. Disappointing!!! Will not be back.

Ricky W.

Yelp
Quality + Quantity with their bowls. Went for the first time and have been wanting to go back since. a+ cool atmosphere and easy service.

Sam G.

Yelp
First time customer and I ordered the Hawaiian Shoyu Classic. The tuna was fresh and delicious however the rest of the bowl wasn't. The rice was almost crunchy (undercooked), the sweet onions were way too overpowering and the cucumber and greens didn't taste fresh. For almost $18 I will go elsewhere

Annabelle C.

Yelp
They give almost no toppings- I ordered 4 vegetable in my bowl and got almost exclusively rice. Very disappointing.
