What Will It Take to Bring Diners Back to Dallas’s West End? | Eater Dallas

"A long-standing Market Street bakery owned by the same proprietor for decades, seen as a neighborhood fixture but concerned about how visible panhandling and perceived safety issues deter local patrons; the owner believes those perceptions reduce repeat local business even as tourists have fewer alternatives." - Diana Spechler

Google
I had their strawberry tres leches cake and dark chocolate chip almond lemon cookie. Cake was little too sweet for my taste but cookie was just right amount of sweetness. There is a lot to explore in that store. I will be back soon to try some more stuff.

Google
Great options. Homey feel. The ice cream our girls loved, cookies and cream(2scoops). The coffee was hot and fresh. We tried a brownie and cookie and they were out of this world good. Amazing spot for dessert!!!

Google
My daughter and I stopped in today after eating some authentic Mexican food across the street and touring the Dallas world zoo, and I was blown away at the incredible cookies here. Such a sweet owner, and incredible environment, absolutely loved

Google
Nice little shop with a large variety of sweets, both packaged and made in-house. I had ice cream and chocolate covered pecans, raisins, and almonds.

Google
Bakery was adorable. Sweets are delicious. I don't have many photos because I bought a lot of stuff for my parents (we live 10 hours south). No oat or soy options for the drinks unforgettable but that's ok! The cookies are soooo delicious. The truffles & brittle are good too! 10/10.

no names please

Google
I really had high hopes for this and the cake was truly one of the worst I’ve had. To be fair, the brownie was better but back to the carrot cake in question. There is an almost plastic aftertaste that was highly concerning. Carrot cake typically has a tangy, smooth cream cheese frosting and this was not that. It reminds me of someone trying to bake without an understanding of what constitutes a carrot cake. The cake part itself was lackluster at best. It should have a depth and spice to it. If you’re going to do something and put your name to it, do it excellently- bottom line. The information is out there, you need to put forth the effort to perfect your craft, especially with the prices.

“The best pecan pralines and rocky road I’ve ever had! The chocolate gummy bears were absolutely incredible too—everything was a sweet lover’s dream!”

Google
We had the order delivered by Uber Eats so cannot comment on the service or the atmosphere We ordered 2 brownies, one with pecans and the other with Oreos - both brownies were so dry. Also the size of the Brownie was approximately 2”x2” seriously small pieces when they charge $9.95 for each. They sent one additional brownie free cause the order was over $30 and even that was too dry We ordered a chocolate mousse cake - which was good size and taste Strawberry Icecream - average Overall we were very disappointed

Yelp
Let me tell you how we absolutly fell in love with Kokopelli Sweets. We had plans to go to the Museum of Illusions and ended up there about 15 mins before they opened. So my kiddo and I walked over here to check out what they had. If I could give 100 stars to the staff working the day we went, I would. Both ladies were very kind, friendly, and did outstanding with my kiddo. They have a candy wall with some of the normal bulk buy candies like starburst, but the real shining stars are the various chocolates, cookies, and slices of cakes they offer. From things such as chocolate covered staples like oreos & nuts too a number of different kinds of truffles. We got a couple of small things before we went to the museum and came back when done to take some cakes togo. My kiddo also got one of their cookies, which had just come out fresh! I absolutely plan on making a stop over here any time I can.

Yelp
I always appreciate visiting Kokopelli Sweets! Since moving nearby, it has become a favorite place of mine! I enjoy sweets, and they always have exactly what I'm looking for. Their shelves are well-stocked, and it's always a pleasant experience. My choice of candy are the flavorful Frooties! I get about 1lb and it never fails that they're gone by the end of the day! You can't just eat one! These are a great go to treat when you're looking for a soft and sweet chew!! Visiting the store on this pleasantly cool day was a worthwhile experience! I even walked there. The staff members are consistently kind and provide excellent customer service. I would suggest having a shopping list, otherwise, one might be tempted to purchase every item. The sweets are attractively displayed, making them quite tempting. I had a wonderful time, and I certainly plan to return to this delightful establishment!

Yelp
I was staying at the Springhill Suites hotel and saw that I didn't have many options for nearby coffee shops. I found Kokopelli Sweets and thought it was just a confectionery, but they also served coffee. As for the coffee... not the best vanilla latte I had. The coffee tasted watered down, and the vanilla flavor was barely there. That being said, I'm totally a fan of the place. It's a one-stop shop for all sweet tooths and carries something for everyone - brownies, gelato, truffles, cakes, artisan chocolates, candies, etc. I did come back later in my trip for a tres leches cake, which was divine. The crumb of the cake was super moist (some tres leches cakes dry out), and I liked the pecan for added texture. It's definitely on the very sweet side. There's a layer of caramel in between the crumb and whipped cream, which I think also attributed to the sweetness. Eat in moderation or have some water handy. Lastly, customer service was great. Very nice employees.

Yelp
Woah this place is a little piece of decedent heaven. What a selection of gelato, cake, cookies, candy....bright open space with seating. Really fantastic find for all you want in goodies.

Yelp
I want to be clear, this review is just for the chocolate. The service and the store seemed great and their cakes looked amazing. I went here to get chocolate and that's what this review is about. It seemed the truffles were produced off site by another company. We bought about $20 worth which amounted to about 10-12 truffles. I'll be as brief in my criticism as possible. As I tried several different fillings, I had the sense that the taste was off--something that I couldn't easily identify. But they tasted like the inside of the catering business I used to work at, it was a nostalgic experience. But you don't want chocolate to remind you of a time when you were serving lobster to people in a red shirt. Anyway, it was just a very unsatisfactory experience. I eat a lot of chocolate and this equates to Russell stover or ultra generic holiday candy. But try their cakes. And get back to me.

Yelp
Was so excited to find a sweets shop. Was actually going to Rocket Fizz but trying to support local and was completely disappointed. NOTHING tasted fresh. The white chocolate gummy bears did NOT taste good. The peanut toffee was mushy. The salted caramel chocolate tasted stale like the candy by the pound is not fresh made. Big bummer and not cheap

Yelp
I was doing some research on gluten free options and came across this gem. We popped in yesterday and it was so cute! They have old time/classic candy, fancy chocolates, fancy cakes, coffee, gelato...so many options! I just got a few loose chocolates, chocolate gummy bears and gelato but all were super tasty! I cant wait to go back! I was also pleasantly surprised to see them on the toogoodtogo app do i will have to see if i can get some of their stuff that way too! Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Ordered from uber eats a few nights back and found a hair inside of the brownie I purchased. The brownies are usually delicious but I was highly dissatisfied to find the hair included

leresa y.

Yelp
The ladies working are very friendly. The chocolates are delicious. Brownies were also delicious. Can't wait to go back and try more chocolates and maybe a cookie.

Yelp
Look at the picture. This is a masterpiece. Your eyes, mouth and stomach will all be in agreement. They will debate who love the cheesecake more. They all will win! Got get you one! Or two! No, three!
google avatar

O'livia S.

Yelp
EXTREMELY TOO EXPENSIVE. Paid $22.62 For 2 ice cream cones. 1 small (one scoop) 1 large (two scoops) variety wasn't as broad as expected. Was really friendly with my kid tho. Unfortunately I can't afford yall ice cream
google avatar

Yelp
Great location for this sweets place. Prices are a bit higher then expected to pay for gelato, 5$ for a scoop, yet they are good. Came in on a Sunday afternoon, The wait for the gelato was slow, other then that neat little sweets cafe. They have: Many type of Candy options ; Chocolate covered Gelato Cake Coffee Brownies
google avatar

Eri H.

Yelp
It is mainly a candy store with a variety of candy and chocolates. But just a heads up it is quite pricey! As you pay by weight! I asked my kids not to pick some giant toy candies as I didn't feel like paying $$$ just because this is sold at a cute candy store. But even their small bag of candies (gums, gumballs, and sour candy) ended up being quite pricey. They also offer ice cream and one scoop in a waffle is about 8$ (including tax). It tasted okay, maybe a little bit too sweet for our taste and not as velvety and creamy like at other creamery stores. All in all, we were thankful that we could cool down a little bit on a hot summer day visiting downtown Dallas.

Yelp
Absolutely the best freshly made desserts. Crème brûlée was one of the best we've ever had! Cherry cheese cake & the brownie we're delicious. Shop is adorable and has a great selection of candies too. Ladies were very friendly. Definitely recommend. Think I'll go back today!

Yelp
We ordered through UberEats for a late night sweet treat after dinner, and it was decent! The turtle brownie was absolutely delicious, and had me wishing I ordered a brownie for myself too, rather than Chocolate Ganache cake! The brownie had a coating of the sea salt caramel sauce and whole pecan le on top (alittle different than pictures), and I was expecting the Chocolate Ganache to be a little sweeter. We were alittle disappointed the pictures looked better that it actually was, we almost wished we ordered the carrot cake instead. That being said, we would love to try other options next time! It was a bit pricey but the brownie was worth every penny!

J J.

Yelp
Amazing!! We got the Oreo cheesecake and it was delicious!!! We also got the chocolate chip gelato to go with it which was also very good! Perfect treat while we visited Dallas!

Ustina J.

Yelp
Extremely overpriced. Their desserts were $45 a POUND (1 lbs.) Buying ice cream was a pain because I couldn't sample anything more than twice! Ridiculous never again.
google avatar

Hailie A.

Yelp
the man working was super friendly and recommended the salted caramel gelato. it was to die for! such a cute space as well with nice indoor and outdoor seating options. i'm not local to dallas, but will definitely revisit if i'm ever back in town!

Yelp
We visited Kokopelli's Sweets on a Saturday afternoon while visiting Dallas. The staff allowed us to try samples of the gelato and that helped me to make my decision. They also had free samples of infused water, which was not my favorite but appreciated. I ordered a white chocolate macadamia nut brownie a la mode with salted caramel gelato. It was on the pricier side but good. Everything was fresh and made in house. I recommend it if you have a sweet tooth.
google avatar

Adolfo G.

Yelp
I got a slice of the butter pecan cake and it was amazing! Also my partner grab few of the chocolates which was also great too. Great place to grab something sweet.

Paulla W.

Yelp
Their ice cream is absolutely delicious ! truly enjoyed this late night treat. I will be coming back.

Yelp
What a great find! If you're in Dallas, for anything, take an Uber to Kokopelli. It's nestled among trees cute shops. Ubers are super cheap. Ours was $6 from Hilton Anetole. This sweet ship has everything from frozen treats, gelato, classic candy, truffles, and CAKES! The CAKES! Try the tres leches. Try any, honestly. A friend had the cheesecake and it was amazing. You can add a vintage style bottled soda to enjoy with your dessert. This is a must-do!

Greg E.

Yelp
I had a slice of carrot cake and it was great! The staff is very friendly and I was greeted very warmly. The cake was just right - moist, tasty, and not too sweet. As I was leaving the store, I told one of the ladies behind the counter that I wish I could take the store back home with me. I highly recommend this business, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
Went in the store in March 9th. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I wanted something sweet to eat. The store is beautiful. The layout is nice and quaint. I had saw that they had pecan pie, when I got there they no longer serve the pecan pie. The service was okay, the pecan brownie was good. I would return to try something different.
google avatar

Lawrencia L.

Yelp
This place is super cute and has a ton of options. I also like that they had an outdoor seating. The options ranged from candy, to brownies and of course ice cream. The line moves really quickly as well. Everything here looked delicious and the presentation was really nice. Yummy delicious treats! I will be back.

Yelp
Huge variety of cakes, brownies, chocolates and candies. I was lead to believe that the brownies and cheesecake we got was "homemade". No it was not. The ONLY reason I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because the woman helping us was very nice. We ordered 1 toffee brownie, 1 Oreo brownie, 1 slice of German chocolate cake and 1 slice or black turtle cheesecake. Extremely subpar to have paid $50 for. And yes it was $50 including tax. VERY OVERPRICED for the quality. I had high expectations after I read about this place being around for 30 or so years. All of it taste store bought and the only thing the woman admitted to being store bought was the gelato. The brownies were hard. My mom said the German chocolate cake had no flavor. Such a disappointment. I would not come back but I'm glad we experienced it otherwise we would still be wondering. Should've just gone to Cake Bar.
google avatar

Niah L.

Yelp
Huge variety of desserts, the pecan bar was too much caramel. The lemon cake and brownies we enjoyed. Cute shop to stop in and grab a snack. Great it's open late. Wouldn't recommend the candy as it can be pricey and you can get more some a gas station.

Yelp
I recently discovered Kokopelli Sweets on Uber Eats, and was overjoyed to find they have a well-curated selection of gluten free desserts. I ordered the gluten-free dulce pecan crunch Basque cheesecake, a gluten-free waffle cone, and a small container of salted caramel gelato. I found everything to be delicious! I especially loved the Basque cheesecake. It was a HUGE slice, with a generous topping of pecans and dulce de leche. What really stood out, though, was the creamy texture. I love cheesecake, and was expecting a standard cheesecake texture, similar to, say, Cheesecake Factory. The Kokopelli version is creamier, a little less sweet (in a good way), and a little less firm. It definitely tasted homemade, and is my new favorite! Since this was the gluten-free version, it had no crust. It was fun to be able to order a gluten-free cone. The gelato was very rich and dense--so much so that I couldn't finish the entire container. (More for later!) The caramel flavor was very good. I was surprised to find chocolate chunks. There is also a small (but tasty looking) selection of vegan gelato flavors, so if you're vegan, you'll definitely want to check this place out! Was very happy with my order, and looking forward to visiting in person!

Yelp
Fun candy shop in downtown Dallas - nice assortment of chocolates and a little bit of seating, though the ice cream section wasn't much to write about.

Victoria R.

Yelp
I read the reviews and it spoke about burnt cake. I did see someone get a slice of burnt cake. However, my cake was dry and old. The brownie and gelato were great however

Yelp
My family randomly stumbled across this place as we were walking through the West End. We were attracted to the "gelato" sign on the front door. I'm glad we decided to try it! Kokopelli has an assortment of candies, chocolates, cookies, brownies, and gelato. During our first visit, we got the turtle brownie. It was served warm and was delicious. The staff were friendly. On our second visit, we got the blood orange sorbet, lemon sorbet, and peanut butter brownie. The sorbets were good (and dairy-free). The brownie was good, but not that warm. I was disappointed that it didn't taste like peanut butter. I think Kokopelli has the same batter for each brownie flavor, so instead of the peanut butter brownie tasting like PB, it was a normal brownie with a very tiny amount of peanut butter on top. I would appreciate if Kokopelli wasn't stingy with the peanut butter. On our third visit, we got the Oreo brownie. Again, there weren't Oreos throughout the brownie -- just one on top, and the rest being normal brownie batter. We asked for our brownie to be heated up, but it was served lukewarm. Overall, this place is cute and has tasty treats. I'd encourage Kokopelli to please be more generous with brownie toppings (such as peanut butter) and to make sure the brownie is heated up enough!
google avatar

Xia B.

Yelp
I like pretty much everything here. From fruity wrapped candies to homemade salted chocolate peanut butter cups. I'm loving this place. Honest establishment that returns lost credit cards (lol! Because that of course didn't happen to me. Of course not.)
google avatar

Lynden A.

Yelp
YUM!! Kokopelli has been my go to sweet spot. The slices of cake are huge and the brownies are delicious. The service is great. My first time visiting I was able to talk with the owner and he was so kind. If you're craving anything sweet, then this is your spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Let's start with the Strawberry cake! It is amazing. The filling has real strawberries and the cake is moist. And please try the vanilla oreo cookie brownie, it will not disappoint. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The prices are on the high side, but the food is worth it.
google avatar

Daniel P.

Yelp
I had the coffee and the strawberry cake. The coffee tasted good and the cake was perfectly moist. The service was fast and friendly. It was also pretty quiet inside

Sandra E.

Yelp
Tried the Oreo Cheesecake, Caramel Cheesecake, Carrot Cake, and a Nutella Chocolate Brownie A-la-Mode. They were all so DELICIOUS
google avatar

Jenn B.

Yelp
They just moved across the street from next to TGI Friday's. It's cool. Like cool AC. There's a decent amount of candy varieties, chocolates, cookies, and gelato. Bulk candy is $13.95 per pound - plastic bags are on the back wall. We had a small cup of gelato $4.75. It's good. Nothing to write home about I guess??? See my photo of the size of the cup....meh.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
The ladies there are very sweet and I like the wide variety of in house made items. I got the Mexican hot chocolate and for oat milk instead and it was perfect for my sensitive tummy.
google avatar

Alexa M.

Yelp
A little expensive but they have some great treats. Tons of different brownie and candy options and the woman who helped us was very sweet.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Are you kidding me? Ordered from Uber Eats... $40 for the TINIEST slices of cake I've ever seen when described as "HUGE" in all capitals on the description. Biggest ripoff of my life. $40 got me two tiny slices of cake and a tiny little brownie. $10 per cake slice and $7 for two bites of a brownie. Ya'll genuinely suck. Upon further review: the cheesecake is still frozen and the German chocolate cake looks and tastes like they got it out of Kroger's garbage bin. New edit: Sorry Kroger, you have better cakes.
google avatar

Ariel S.

Yelp
I ordered a slice of German chocolate cake and a Slice of turtle cheesecake through UberEats. The cake and cheesecake were small/regular slices but online appeared to be much larger. No biggie though. The cheesecake was fresh & tasted good but nothing spectacular that I'd have to have again. The German chocolate cake I received looked totally different from the picture online but again no biggie as long as it taste good. Unfortunately, it did not taste good. The chocolate cake was pretty dry. Once it was room temperature my bf ate it and said it was good to him Overall, It's wasn't worth the price of $9.95 a slice... but it will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth craving. :)

Tanisha H.

Yelp
I wanted blueberry cheesecake so bad. And there was no place close to Farmers Branch so I looked them up and called in order. Drove downtown just to make it before they closed. I order two blueberry cheesecakes and they were dry and very burnt. Like black burnt. I don't know if it had been out all day or what. I was absolutely devastated and disappointed. I will not return or recommend. I wouldn't serve black burnt food to anyone.

Seblina T.

Yelp
I don't understand why this place is pricy, very very mediocre cakes and ice cream. Couldn't even eat the sobret, tasted very watered down.
google avatar

Brooke J.

Yelp
The Magonada is a must try!!! Wonderful walk back through the candy memory lane of my childhood.

Brandy J.

Yelp
Speechless and my mouth is happy. I will add more later I must get back to my Gluten-free Chocolate Lava cake paired with a great red wine !
google avatar

Chelsea H.

Yelp
The desserts here are delicious, especially the gelato! My favorite flavor to pick up is the butter pecan...so good! I do wish the pie and cake slices were not frozen when you purchased so that you could instantly enjoy! My other draw back and the main reason my rating is so low, is due to the customer service. The young lady with darker hair is not friendly/warm or inviting, and both times that I have walked in she has her mask completely off. Even if it wasn't still a pandemic, she is always sitting/standing behind the counter so you would think she would at least have proper coverings to ensure the health of customers. Any who, the last time that I went in, a older gentlemen came from the back and instead of greeting me all he said was "do you have cash? We can't accept card since our system is down!" This was after the girl had started preparing my order so obviously she wasn't aware either. Hopefully, the next time that are a little more chipper...

Yelp
Ordered through DoorDash on a whim wanting a birthday treat. Ordered four items, and everything looked so great on the app, the photos showed large slices of cake, pie, large squares of brownies, etc. After waiting a lifetime (at no fault of the vendor, that part was DoorDash's fault), a tiny bag showed up at our door. We paid almost $40 for the four most disappointing desserts. Nothing looked like the pictures, and everything was tiny. We ordered a slice of cheesecake, a slice of pie, a slice of cake, and a brownie. The cheesecake was okay, but tasted almost dry. The crust on the pie was crumbling all over the place and more ended up on my lap than in my mouth. The filling of the pie was good, though. The red velvet cake was moist, but the cream cheese frosting tasted absolutely nothing like cream cheese. The brownie also had good flavor, but it was hard as a rock. I even warmed it up in the microwave like they had suggested. All in all, for the most part, the flavors were there, but the prices were just absolutely not justifiable. The piece of cake alone was $10, and I will never pay almost $7 for a brownie again. It was just disappointing that it looked so great in the pictures and the portion sizes appeared to be sufficient, but to then receive it and everything came up a little short. I may eat here again to try something else, and maybe the experience would be better in person, but this time around was disappointing.
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
I had a major sweets craving about two weeks ago and decided to order via Uber Eats. I ordered gelato and the tres leches cake. The Tres Leches cake slice was kind of small for the price, but it was extremely delicious! I would definitely get it again if I was craving that flavor! The gelato was also tasty, no complaints. I just wish they had more sustainable packaging, especially in the pandemic where so many people get take out.

Yelp
Such a great place to visit after a couple hours at The Dallas Aquarium. The salted caramel and limoncello are highly recommended {do yourself a favor and try it together.} Their outdoor patio was perfect for the Texas springtime.
