Yelp
(Dined 06/22/21 TU @ 12:00pm): There's a place called Kokoroll that's where you wanna go... to get some fast poke and sushi!
Since I was doing some work in the area, I recently met a couple friends at their request for lunch at Burbank's Kokoroll Cafe location. I've grown up eating poke bowls which was a basic peasant rudimentary dish back in the day before it became a healthier meal trend with fancier cuts of seafood, a plethora selection of toppings, and a higher price tag. As a fan of poke, I was glad to see its explosion in popularity (what took so long!?), but I wasn't a fan of the oversaturation of shops and the elevated price levels. How would I roll with this fish food cafe!?
PURCHASE
Thai Iced Tea w/Boba 16floz Cup ($4.85): A wonderful muddy orange color with a ton of large chewy boba pearls and minimal glass-like ice, this was an aromatic floral drink that easily could've been a meal itself, and it wasn't overly sweet. The price was a tad more than what I normally pay, but it was an enjoyable drink nonetheless https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=tqgBOsAhGut__IBERUSeuA&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw.
Poke Bowl - Baked Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, Ahi Tuna ($13.99): A collection of fresh ingredients from top to bottom, this healthy seafood bowl of goodness initially surprised me by the price. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised by the seafood portions (actually pieces versus the standard scoops I've grown used to) and how they were prepared, but I wished there was more rice along with the other toppings as my bowl seemed under-filled. Still, this Hawaiian dish left a smile on my face https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=-HxqzbWU-MoNS6e_4HYBWg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw.
SERVICE
Greeted by a young effervescent staff behind the counter, they happily assisted us with our orders as we filled out a plastic menu https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=-3zv7qnkgRVq1H9SylD-tQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, our drinks came out minutes later, and lastly our food about ten minutes later. Everything was easy and straightforward - great job to all!
PARKING (Varied; FREE this instance)
We easily found timed street parking along the main drag of Olive Ave.. Otherwise, there was plenty of parking along surrounding side streets as well as parking structures - 'nuff said!
ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE
A small squarish storefront that was primarily a stainless steel order counter and a small dining area in front of that but was emptied out due to the current COVID-19 pandemic https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=IiVjz6CHZqWWftgyxjSrCQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw, there was a handful of tables and chairs out front on the sidewalk where we sat. Minimal to little decorations inside with the exception of a white board https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=791Lfh_P_GqLCFgMWhmeNQ&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw on one wall, and an easily legible menu directly above the order counter. Plenty of natural lighting came in through the large front glass wall windows and doors while electric ceiling lights filled in the rest. I didn't notice any TVs while Top-40 music played in the background. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=WbNbn3sxC-DfpVQDViw6Tg&userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw
ATTIRE
Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops.
OVERALL
I had a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing meal with friends at Kokoroll Cafe's Burbank location, and I would consider another visit since I was in the area often. The food was very tasty, the menu selection was limited but varied enough (i.e. bowls, wraps, handrolls, boba drinks, etc.), the prices were generally comparable although I felt the bowl and wrap prices were a bit elevated, and the service was straightforward and fine. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $21.00 BEFORE any discounts/tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice...
