Being from Atlanta, but knowing Houston pretty well, I was asked by my colleagues in a meeting one day to bring in some local breakfast for our next meeting. I said Kolaches or Tamales? Not knowing either one by these yankee's , I got a few dozen Kolaches from KF .
Albeit they did not have my favorite ( Boudin) they did have a plethora of choices and I just mixed up several and took them into the meeting. Most of the clan from Boston, New York, or California had no idea of what they were or had heard of them. Everybody dove in- some reluctantly as we work for a very lean "healthy" company but these were the real deal, had plenty of stock and I was the hero for the day.
In the South- when you are in Atlanta- its Chick Filet biscuits, or Alabama/Mississippi, bacon egg and cheese biscuits or bagels, then Shipleys donuts in LA and throughout Texas. You don' show up at a meeting without food at 7 am in the South. They expect it- and if you can bring Kolaches- you know you are in Texas. They may not be 1200 calories and packed for a huge breakfast but not designed for that. They are designed to eat 2 or so- leave off a bit of bread and depending on which location- you may get a different mix of whats available. Highly recommend!!!
