We ate here on a chilly evening in June (Winter Solstice) and the restaurant was certainly getting into the theme of winter, with the AC cranking and the place colder than Antarctica. I had on 5 layers of clothing, including a large scarf and heavy jacket and I could not remove any of them as it was so cold in there. We ordered a nice bottle of Wirra Wirra Chardonnay to warm us up which did help but really, the restaurant should turn on the heaters.
We ordered the STANDARD SET menu for $95pp.
Food all very lovely with some of the CHAAT SNACKS being rather spicy, which was great. Our biggest complaint, besides the frigid temperature was the service.
The issue with the service was not that it was too slow, but that it was extremely fast. We sat down at 6:40pm, ordered the food by 6:45pm, then it started to arrive by 6:50pm, with the first three dishes coming out and we were yet to even finish these, when more arrived. Luckily the tables are large (so we could fit all the food) and well spaced apart and the atmosphere is good for talking.
We were yet to even finish the five CHAAT SNACKS (which included a lot of food, with bread, kebab, etc) when all of a sudden the mains arrived. This was beyond ridiculous. The timing gave us no time to process the food and we felt like they were trying to push us out prematurely even though it wasn’t an overly busy night. We switched the goat for the prawns and they were very nice, though only getting one prawn each was a little disappointing. The butter chicken was yummy but for a high-end restaurant, it would have been nice to have something more adventurous that boring butter chicken.
Luckily, they gave us a reprieve from eating with a longer break between the main and dessert.
Dessert was a disappointment, however. Like all Asian cuisines, desserts are always below average and not worth eating. We had the Mishti Doi (yoghurt with pineapple) and it was odd and not a joy to eat.
All up, the food (besides the dessert) was very nice, though the extremely fast service made us feel as though we were being forced out which put a downer on the night. The heating MUST be turned on and if they can’t afford it, then they should at least provide blankets or warn people before they come to bring one themselves.
