San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"Not to be confused with Katsuo & Kombu, Kombu is a sushi spot in SoMa with rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. They offer both a la carte options as well as an omakase in their hardwood and cement dining room. " - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

Kombu - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Not to be confused with Katsuo & Kombu, Kombu is a sushi spot in SoMa with rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. They offer both a la carte options as well as an omakase in their hardwood and cement dining room. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Google
I visited this outstanding sushi restaurant in San Francisco five times in just three days — it’s that good. The quality is exceptional, with every piece of sushi crafted to perfection and presented like art. The vibrant colors, delicate textures, and fresh flavors make each bite memorable. Despite its top-tier quality, the prices are surprisingly reasonable, offering incredible value for what feels like a fine dining experience. The staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere is calm yet lively. Whether for a quick lunch or a long evening meal, this place delivers consistently flawless sushi every time.

Google
Amazing authentic sushi spot that's small and unassuming, but very refined. Everything was delicious so I recommend it all! From the Sashimi combo to the chawanmushi, it was skillfully prepared to perfection. Best value item to order is the uni tasting, definitely worth it!

Google
Great flavors in the rolls that allowed the freshness and quality of the fish to shine. Very little rice and generous fillings/toppings. A bit pricier than the other comparable sushi restaurants within a 5-10min, but an overall enjoyable lunch stop.

Google
Tried this sushi restaurant for the first time and we are definitely coming back! 🎉 Superb quality of fish/sashimi and a variety of selection. Had nigiri taste platter which included fatty tuna, fatty yellowtail, and some other fish that I do not recall names. What I do remember is they all are delicious!!! Modern deco with only a few tables paired with traditional high quality Japanese food, it was an excellent dining experience. Already planning our next visit. If you are in the area, you should give this place a try🎏🥳🍣🎊

Google
Every dish was delicious however the price is a little high for the quality and amount of food you're receiving, there's definitely better value options throughout the city. Still a nice place to visit especially last minute without reservations.

Google
The restaurant exceed all of my expectations. The food was authentic and beautifully presented. The sushi was incredibly fresh, with the perfect balance of rice and fish. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both intimate dinners and gatherings with friends. The sushi chef and server are pretty welcoming and nice as well. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

Google
My friend took me here for my birthday and we ordered omakase with a chawanmushi. Fish was pretty fresh and it wasn’t too expensive either. Instead of a dessert like most restaurants do, the chef gave us a birthday roll! Definitely deserves 5*

Google
Passed by this place on the way to the Wholefoods nearby and decided to give it try. Absolutely exceeding my expectations. 1. Every piece is fresh and delicious. 2. Very reasonable price with what you can get. 3. The chef is very generous. Big pieces. lol 4. The service is phenomenal as well. I wish they had more business coming in. Best sushi place nearby imo.

Yelp
This place is BOMB! Ordered the omakase nigiri ($88) and it was so good that I ordered more nigiri and a hand roll. If I had a bigger stomach I would have ordered more. Staff were nice and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Kombu is undoubtedly one of the highest quality omakase experiences in the Bay Area at a fair price under $100. The pieces are super fresh and huge. Service was super nice! We even got a complimentary dish from the chef. Has a nice dark modern atmosphere as well. Perfect for date night. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Ambiance and Service was spectacular! The place has good aesthetics and definitely a fancy feel. I ordered the Rainbow Roll and it was well made with good presentation. The service also provided complimentary Miso, cucumber salad, and Edamane

Yelp
Quality seafood, great portions, and delicious traditional flavors. This is the new sushi restaurant in the neighborhood and I'm glad to have tried it! Everything tasted amazing and hit the spot. Their sashimi platter does seem like it's on the pricey side but they cut big portions of fish and give a good amount. I honestly felt like it was worth it. (5/5) A5 Wagyu tartare was torched on the top and added on rice which was different from traditional tartare. It was on the smaller side but it seemed like less meat because of the rice (4/5) Nigiri platter was fresh and had a variety of fresh fish and seared fish. (4.8/5) Chawanmushi was perfect texture - not too firm and topped with ikura. I love starting off my meal with a light appetizer like this. (5/5) The service was amazing - my cup never went empty and they always checked in with us. I'll be back for more delicious sushi

Yelp
Amazing little sushi spot. The place had about 5 four person tables and. 8 seats at the sushi bar. The vibe was pleasant and the music playlist was enjoyable. It was a Tuesday so the place was slow. The sushi tasted really good. The only miss was the uni that was part of the tasting appetizer. Was some of the worst uni we ever had. Everything else was really good.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! We went for a late dinner one night and it was a great experience. Everything was very clean, I really loved the tableware and cutlery. The set up was also very nice, modern and new with a great design. Quick and wonderful service. We ordered the toro and uni hand rolls, both delicious and a very good price! The dragon and lion king roll were also very good. It was the service and attention to detail that made this place so great! Definitely found our go-to spot for a sushi craving.

Yelp
Really nice place! I came here for lunch today and the food was really fresh. I believe Don was my chef and Allen was server. They were both friendly and nice. I loved the poke salad very much.. I'll definitely be back

Yelp
Food and service was quite good but it's a bit pricey albeit this is SF so cost of labor is quite high. I couldn't frequent for lunch that often given the price. I was hoping there would be a lunch special. Inc tip and tax the total was $113.80.

Yelp
Amazing Japanese food experience This Japanese restaurant was definitely the highlight of my recent dining experience. From the moment I entered the restaurant, the warm atmosphere and elegant decor made me feel as if I was in Japan. The chef's craftsmanship and dedication are on display, whether it's in the selection of ingredients, the finesse of the knife work, or the combination of flavors. Sushi and sashimi are the absolute staples of this restaurant. Each piece of sashimi is tender and rich in flavor, especially the salmon and sea urchin that melt in your mouth with the fresh taste of the sea. The rice in the sushi grip is soft, with just the right amount of vinegar flavor, and combines perfectly with the fresh fish, making it a truly blissful bite. The service was also outstanding. The waiter was attentive and always showed up at just the right time to pour tea, introduce the dishes, and recommend the right accompaniments based on our taste preferences. The whole meal was very comfortable and enjoyable. Whether it's the insistence on the quality of the ingredients or the perfect presentation of the essence of Japanese food, this restaurant shows a very high standard. If you're a fan of Japanese food, it's definitely worth a try, or even a repeat visit.

Yelp
New sushi spot in soma! I had the wagyu tartare, ankimo, uni special, sake toro, ama ebi, and chawanmushi. The sake toro, ankimo, and wagyu tartare were especially great - very fresh and tasty. I always judge a sushi place by it's uni and all of it tasted amazing. Not fishy at all. On top of it they had my favorite sake - Dassai 45 so they know what they're stocking. They also have a very reasonably priced omakase that I plan to try in the future. Great service too. Plan to be back!

Jon C.

Yelp
Tasty food - we had the lion king, rainbow roll, scallop nigiri, and Wagyu handrolls. I would come back to try other things. Everything was very fresh. They also have a small but decent selection of half bottle sake Ambiance is very laidback and a good chill experience. Excellent service - very attentive.

Yelp
Although there's not much parking nearby, this is a great place to enjoy some Japanese sushi with an aesthetic touch. The staffs are also quite friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Freshest sushi I've ever eaten. 12/10 I recommend you try this place. Easy parking out front as well.

Yelp
Wow this is fine of the best sushi I've had in SF in years. The ambience is clean and you can tell there is real Japanese craftsmanship and dedication to work. Staff is efficient, friendly and professional. Definitely will be my go to sushi place.

Catherine N.

Yelp
Unforgettable dining experience that I can't recommend enough! Our service from Allan was exceptional--one of the best we've had in a long time. Food was quite delicious. The chef even surprised us with a unique sample dish. The restaurant was clean and inviting, creating a lovely atmosphere for our meal. Definitely need to give it a try!

Yelp
Stumbled on the gem and it did not disappoint!! SO GOOD! The fish was fresh, the rice was amazing, will be back soon.

Lauren S.

Yelp
This is hands down the best sushi I've ever had. My husband agrees. I would come back to SF just to eat here.

Zill K.

Yelp
Discovered this amazing restaurant right next to Whole Foods. The uni tasting and 12-piece sashimi were outstanding--the fish was incredibly fresh and sweet! We also tried the wagyu beef tartare, 49er roll and steamed egg custard--all were excellent. The restaurant has a beautiful design and is perfect for a group dinner with friends or family.

Ben N.

Yelp
High quality sushi spot with excellent service. We had the lion king roll and the toro special roll - both 10/10. The toro special roll is a bit pricier than the others but absolutely worth it. One of the best rolls I've ever had. Overall, every ingredient, from the wasabi, ginger, edamame, and the actual fish itself was very fresh. Normally I'd keep a spot like this to myself (I don't post many reviews), but this place deserves every bit of business and I wish them success

Allister M.

Yelp
Had the Omakase Nigiri at the counter and it was absolutely delicious. Perfect fish, rice, and sauces, with real wasabi as default. The staff was great, too. I highly recommend the savory egg custard! I'll be back!

Jayla B.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place to grab a bite after work. The ambiance is great, the waiters and service are very nice. And the food taste great ! I will be back very soon

Yelp
The ingredients are fresh, tastes good. The atmosphere is very nice and the waiters are very friendly.

Bofeng L.

Yelp
The food is very fresh, the sushi chef is very friendly and we had a great time chatting. The dining environment was very comfortable.

Todd J.

Yelp
Updated interior is very nice, elegantly modern. Great service with a friendly staff. I ordered the Caterpillar Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. The Caterpillar Roll was incredible, so many complimentary flavors all at once. The Spicy Tuna Roll was very good, but the sneaky spice after you swallow a piece was perfect!

Kate M.

Yelp
Everything we ate was top notch - especially enjoyed the omakase nigiri platter and savoury egg custard. Great service and lots of thoughtful details.

Benjamin D.

Yelp
We stopped by to get an appetizer, and ended up with a feast. We tried the Omakase Nigiri, the Wagyu Tartare, and the Japanese egg custard with roe. Everything was amazing! The tartare melted in my mouth. Each piece of the nigiri was extremely delicious and had just the tiniest fresh wasabi dabbed on. We will definitely be back. Great new restaurant, we're so lucky to have them in the neighborhood.

Milo F.

Yelp
Great spot! Hadn't realized this opened up in the neighborhood, but am glad I stumbled upon it. A cute and cozy restaurant with fresh fish (with large portions for the omakase set) and a friendly staff. We even got free desserts at the end! This place will definitely start getting busier so try it now before everyone discovers it!

Jeff S.

Yelp
This new restaurant is wonderful. The service was impeccable. We enjoyed 4 different sushi rolls, a poke bowl, and the wagyu beef. The fish was perfect and the wasabi is some of the best I have had. The wagyu beef with the egg yolk melts in your mouth. We will definitely return!
