Hidden Gem in SoMa – Fresh, Flavorful, and Fantastic!
I stumbled upon Kombu Restaurant in SoMa and it instantly became one of my new go-to spots for sushi and fresh Japanese-inspired dishes. Everything I ordered was exceptionally good, both in flavor and presentation.
• Seafood Poke Salad: A knockout. Super fresh cuts of fish, perfectly ripened avocado, seaweed, cucumber, and a light but umami-rich dressing. It’s hearty and clean at the same time.
• Cucumber Salad: Crisp, refreshing, and exactly what I needed to balance the other rich dishes. Light sesame flavor with fresh microgreens on top—simple but elegant.
• Seaweed Salad: Packed with flavor, texture, and a slight zing. This isn’t your basic seaweed side—it’s vibrant and generously portioned.
• California Roll & Salmon Avocado Roll: Classic, but done right. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and the fish tasted fresh—not fishy or bland like at some places. Creamy avocado, crunchy cucumber, and smooth crab—every bite was balanced and satisfying.
Prices were totally reasonable for the quality, and the packaging (for takeout) was sturdy and well-designed. I also appreciated how clean and professional everything felt—from the branding to the freshness of the ingredients.
Pro tip: Don’t sleep on the poke salad. It’s restaurant-quality with delivery convenience.
Support this spot. Kombu deserves more love and attention—it’s clear they care about every single detail.
