My crew and I were assigned to the mad river area for wildfires last summer and we were staying in Fortuna. This place was a main staple for us. Amazing food. While my crew was more apt for sushi than I was, the teriyaki beef was incredible.

This is the best sushi place in Humboldt county. I’ve been coming down here to eat for 13 years. The sashimi is very giving. The calamari is absolutely delightful, crispy, not overdone. A diamond in the rough as many would call, the staff is very friendly as well! All the sauces are housemade and the sushi rolls are extra large. I’ll be coming back for sure.

Basically I see: No bugs of any kind, always looks clean, the staff is kind (yes they are so respectful I mentioned this so much already!!) Yummy food that tastes as good as it looks, and I like how quiet it can be, great for relaxation WHILE eating too! It's practically music to an introvert's ears, which I am a introvert and can say this service is amazing. I visit this place from time to time cause I cannot live without their delicious sushi.

Typically I love komes sushi but recently I've been getting large amounts of shrimp shells that are still attached to the shrimp inside my roll. I'm very sad this keeps happening

Multiple visits with a great meal and service. Most recent visit we had a birthday dinner and they made it a special night for us.

I love that Fortuna has Kome. Great menu selection, well prepared and beautifully presented options, hospitable staff, accommodating to children. My only complaint is that I wish they offered tomadachi. Although they have plenty of Asian beer options.

Not the best, not the worst. Got it to-go. Wasabi was artificial green kinda low quality, seemed the ginger was the pink dyed type. To-go soy sauce packets tasted bad and had artificial colors and preservatives. Just seems weird to skimp on these things when its not a cheap meal.

A hidden gem in this little town. Quite atmosphere, great service, wonderful food.

I've eaten here a couple of times for lunch and the sushi was fresh, tasty, and reasonably prices. As good as any other sushi I've had in humboldt. Service was quick and friendly.

Kome use to be one of my favorite restaurants, however the past couple of times i've been, i've noticed that the quality of the fish has gone down drastically. unless the quality of the food goes up i wont be eating here any time soon.

I think it has way too much MSG. Had a terrible head pain after having a bowl of their udon soup. I'd like to support local businesses and everything but that was just insane.

Super quiet sushi spot in Fortuna. We thought they were closed at first but when we walked in with our daughter, they told sit anywhere, we let our daughter pick, so we sat in the middle of the restaurant. The service was good. Our food came as fast as they could make it and was delicious. Next time we're in Fortuna we'll be back

This might be the best sushi I've ever had... Not only are the rolls gigantic, but the rice is warm and fluffy, the ingredients are fresh and they definitely give you tons of filling! The staff is incredibly friendly and so fast! I had quite a big to-go order and it was ready in 20 minutes! The prices are so so good, especially for what you're getting. Any place else would charge twice as much for your sushi that was half as good. This is definitely our new go-to spot. As new residents of Fortuna, we're very excited to find such a treasure so close to home

We got sushi and it was delicious and fresh. Our order was To Go. It was neatly packaged as well.

We really liked this restaurant. We enjoyed the deluxe yam roll a lot and for dessert we got the sesame balls. They were really good too. The servers were good and food came fast. Appreciate the nice quality chopsticks.

Food and service is almost always excellent! Love sushi and this is my local go to! Good sushi at a reasonable price! Ok specials for lunch! Can't go wrong with the Udon soups! I've been there quite a few times and it never disappoints

Always delicious and good service. We eat there every few months and will keep going back. They didn't falter during the covid lock down with take out orders which was very impressive and now that we dine in again we get the same great food and service.

I would give this place a 3.5 star rating. As previous reviews state, this is an average sushi restaurant but probably one of the better establishments in the area, the price is a big plus. The specialty sushi rolls we're $10 - $13 each while the plain rolled were all around $6.50. it's a pretty standard/basic menu as far as the specialty rolls go. Our server Briana was kind, quick and attentive. She really deserves 5 stars! I saw her helping a elder handicapped man to his car, now that's service. The food itself is just meh but like I said, good for the area. We ordered 5 rolls, philly, Klamath, dragon, rainbow and redbull. Each roll was good, the tempura shrimp did not taste so fresh on the dragon. The rainbow roll was made with baby shrimp (probably frozen) which really threw me off. The Klamath roll, made of tempura salmon, tasted like it was frozen salmon. I could be wrong but the salmon just didn't taste fresh. Taste wise the rolls were'nt very impressive. Oh and side note: the Dr. Pepper tastes like Root beer. The building is attractive and spacious, it would be a good place for a large group or dining with kids. The service was so great that I will likely come again. This place is worth a try!

it pricey they give you more cabbage than chicken or any type of meat. It's mostly vegetables.

As stated in previous posts the ginger beef was terrible. Serving the beef with pickled ginger on the side qualifies for ginger beef???? The beef was tough and chewy. The miso soup was good and served hot. The California roll [sic] was 99 percent rice and no signs of California to be found. Very disappointing meal.

The ginger beef had zero ginger flavor and the meat was so tough I couldn't chew through it. The waitress was kind and understanding when I sent the awful food back to the kitchen. The only good thing was the miso soup.

Do you enjoy flavor- less meals? Want to spend more than usual? Have I got the place for you! Kome in Fortuna! Where it seems they marinate their beef in water and call it teriyaki! Salad not salty enough for you? You don't have to worry about that here! They will drench your greens in a mayo based dressing that will have you making disappointed faces for the rest of the day! And the sushi! Boy oh boy. This must be the kind that white people like. If my grandma Toshi were around I am sure she would have lots of feedback for this place. I thought I would give it another try. Safeway is a better bet for sushi in Fortuna. The seaweed salad was super salty, but okay. Unagi was passable but not much sauce on it. Water was great!

Sometimes you need sushi and don't want to leave Fortuna. It's not inexpensive or beautiful inside, but it is fast, with good service, and a serviceable but not innovative menu.

The service is excellent. The food comes out promptly. However, every time I eat here I start wondering if I have Covid because I can't taste anything it's flavorless. Ichiban in Eureka is fire sushi.

Fresh sushi very beautifully presented! Always a family favorite. The atmosphere is ok but could be a lot better.

Very authentic Japanese cuisine. I had the salmon in miso sauce, it was very good! It came with either a California roll or a veggie roll, steamed veggies, miso or salad and rice. The service was relatively fast for a busy sushi restaurant. We didn't have to wait long to order or pay. The miso salmon was $15, totally worth it. I couldn't eat all of the food.

Not a big fan, but that could just be a personal opinion. Got the Klamath Roll that said it came with tempura crispies on top but it was SMOTHERED in what tasted/looked like panko breadcrumbs straight from the box. Was not impressed and didn't taste grest. The restaurant was pretty empty and very quiet, and the food was just ehhh. Probably won't go back since I like other local sushi restaurants much more. Their rolls are very big though, so if you find one you love it could be great!

Always fast service and it's never a disappointment. The food is always amazing. The servers are all very attentive and nice. This is a go to date night spot for us.

All it takes is 1 RUDE and DISHONEST employee to ruin a consistent faithful and loyal customer that has supported your business for years. Management should be ashamed of themselves for poor hiring, poor training and poor customer service skills. It is no wonder that you have RUDE inexperienced workers when the managers themselves have ZERO people skills or concern for the customers experience.

The worst Japanese restaurant I've ever had the displeasure to dine in. Salmon was bitter and dry- I gave it to my dog. Mixed veggies (long, thick sliced carrots and broccoli) were raw and tasteless, but bitter as well. Sushi was so-so. Go elsewhere! Eureka has a fabulous Thai restaurant-go there. I won't be back. Update: i Took the raw veggies home and tried to make them edible but they were bitter to the end. Garbage.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and were very pleasantly surprised at what a lovely Japanese restaurant would be in the small town of Fortuna. The service was great and the selection on the menu exceeded our expectations. The sashimi was very fresh and the ability to choose four different nigiri was just delightful. Everything we had was tasty, generous and very fresh. Would definitely come here again the next time we are in Humboldt County.

Good sushi, fabulous service. I love kome! You have to try their house roll, often it's the only thing I get but I order multiples Sometimes I'll make sushi at my house and you can order just sushi rice so you don't have to make it yourself... not many places would accommodate that so I really appreciate them for helping me! Great atmosphere and good prices.

Decent sushi in an area with little selection in terms of good food. Not sure what the service is like since we only got takeout. Portions were average size, price is a little less than I'd expect compared to the Bay Area. "Specialty" rolls are about $10-ish even. Our order: Caterpillar -- unagi and minced shrimp with avocado and unagi sauce on top. Firecracker -- Spicy tuna with tempura crunch and unagi sauce Both were fresh and good combinations. Glad that this was here while we were staying in Fortuna!

Nice, quiet environment with surprisingly good Japanese food. Prices are very reasonable given the comfortable setting, as well as portion, taste and presentation of food. Great service too. If you are looking for a touch of Japanese cuisine that satisfies your gastronomical cravings, give Kome a try. We'd definitely return to the restaurant if we visit Fortuna again.

Incredibly disappointed with the staff who answers the phone, called on 6/13/20 at 9:24pm (says they close at 10:00) i'm literally in their parking lot trying to make this order and the girl proceeds to say... we close soon after I say I want to place an order... so I think umm okay? I say it says you close at 10? She says yeah well you have to be here in 10 Minuets with the most snarky attitude possible. So I told her basically I'll take my money elsewhere considering it's a $50 order so whatever, and after everyone being closed because of a pandemic you'd think they would like the business. I will gladly support all local restaurants but will NEVER support this one again. I hope this place just closes for good.

I try and support local business, I've been here repeatedly. Unfortunately, it's the only sushi spot in a 20 minute radius. Dry, bland... Think I've been there the last time.

Great place to eat!! They have lots of choices and we have never been disappointed with in house dining or Order to go. Although I did get someone else's order by mistake and the teens had already gotten in it when I saw the order. Bit less than my previous order but everyone really loved the food.

This place is usually more hit than miss. Today though was an epic fail. They gave me a 15 min wait time for Togo. I get there in 20 min they made me wait for another ten or so no biggie. When I get home the sushi looks like it was kicked around in the box. Every roll falls apart and the fish was even cut terribly. (I'm no master chef but this was done by a rookie) The tempura rolls are cold and soggy the gyoza was again cold and soggy. So disappointed for a 75 dollar take out meal. Kome take this for some education and do better.

Food 6/10, Service 4/10 Value 5/10 Highly recommended by local friends. Went solo, seated at small table in corner facing a wall though restaurant wasn't very full. Nice menus, with a seeming variety. Wasn't sure whether to go with maki dinner or a bento, decided upon ginger beef bento (sukiyaki?). Salad and tea came out fairly promptly. But several others got seated in my area and the waiter seemed to then be focused on them, no problem. But then I noticed that slowly all three of the other tables started getting their food. More and more of their food, I just had an empty salad bowl to stare at for quite some time. As one of the tables that arrived after me was settling up her bill, my food arrived. Thought that was odd, but whatever. The beef was a bit tough, but the sauce was excellent and the vegetables were steamed perfectly. Tasty dish. The vegetable rolls were average to me, wanted California rolls but apparently their "California rolls" consist of shrimp and avocado(!). I've heard of restaurants making minor variations in roll ingredients, but never in my life has California roll varied from a fake/real crab wrap. They kept the name and deliver a shrimp and avocado roll... that's so bizarre. Waiter never came by after dropping by the food, nice enough guy but I think the others were probably regulars and more important to him. I had hoped for a little more than the dime-sized speck of wasabi, but made it work. Finally got the check and laid out some money, but after 10 minutes or so I surmised that payment is "self serve" here- you gotta take it up yourself. Huge line of people paying by credit cards individually, but finally got it done and got out of there WAY later than I had wanted. I guess for a cow town like Fortuna this is probably considered one of their better places. It's an odd area, many places like this restaurant charge San Francisco prices (and often much more), but the rent, labor, regulations and other costs have got to be considerably less than SF. If you are absolutely craving Japanese style food then this place will get you by. But it's such a mystery what they are up to.

Ehhhh... I probably won't go back. We ordered a Klamath roll, two other rolls, nigiri, and miso. The Klamath roll came out with an extra ingredient (see picture). Things happen and I wasn't upset it just made the rest of the food off putting. I called and asked for a replacement item and went to pick it up. 30 minutes later and still no replacement roll. That was more irritating then the hair so I left because I was being impatient and hungry.

To start, I've never had a bad complaint about this business. I ordered seven different rolls tonight totaling a $100. The money is not an issue but I was in the middle of eating a piece of sushi and bit down on a hard piece of plastic. I called and explained exactly what happened. They stated they would give me a 50% return which I was unhappy with due to not finishing my meal, I brought all the rolls back I did not finish as well. I went down to the restaurant and tried to settle the issue with no avail. They could not admit to what it was and tried saying we planted it in the food, and threatened to call the cops because we were trying to scam them. I will not be going back.

Fabulous service. The teriyaki chicken dinner with California roll was yummy!!! Highly recommend Kome if your looking for sushi in Fortuna.

I stopped at this restaurant for dinner heading south. I was very happy that I did. I had the tempura shrimp udon soup. The shrimp was delicious! It was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. The vegetable udon soup was fresh with great tasting vegetables; carrots, broccoli, asparagus and pea pods. Also, enjoyed a hot sake on a cold a rainy night. If I lived here, I would eat at this little gem every week. I hope you try it. The waitress was very sweet with great service.

The staff are normally nice, polite... the environment is clean. The food is excellent! They have some typical rolls and some unique ones... but honestly even the common ones are done better here than some of places.

I tried to call several times with no answer drove by seen how busy they were and waited hr called and was treated rudely like my business was not wanted the girl kept repeating 30min wait and than just sat phone down and asked if I was still there and surprised to hear I was I told her to cancel my order it was CLEARLY an inconvenience just bad business

The rolls that we had included some fried ingredients and came out greasy and soggy. Dripping with grease. I asked for no avocado on my roll and while they honored that request they substituted the avocado with Brussel Sprouts....really, Brussel Sprouts! Would not go back. Food was inedible.

Always on point. You get exactly what you ask for, done perfectly, every time. Eat in is fast, though with this new dine out only system it can take much longer. Hopefullythis is temporary, I'm sure it is. Love the Salmon Bento Box or the Jalapeño roll. Thank God to have a different flavor in small town Fortuna!

Sparce on the actual fish cuts and over loaded with filler(those tiny shrimp). Never been to a sushi restaurant that all the rolls were just filler. Other food is fine just stay away from the sushi.

I've literally never had a bad experience when ordering here. Even the pickiest of my friends and family can find something to eat. The fried rolls are to die for, the maki is the tops as well. Everyone is very kind

We used to love eating here but recently the quality of food has gone way down. Also the wait time is insane..which wouldn't be a problem if they told you how long the wait would actually be. We have ordered take out many times where they've told us the order will be ready in 15 min and then we wait 45 min+ for our order. I hate writing bad reviews but maybe this will help them sort out these issues.
