So last night the hubs and I found ourselves in one of my happy places this one is known as Chinatown. Now the hubs being the man that he is asks me what I want to eat. Seriously!?!? I said sushi and he wanted conveyor belt so we came back to Konbea.I figured we had a wait on our hands.I was pleasantly surprised no wait. We asked for a booth as 2 were open. A female employee who happened to be near the hostess stand said "NO" bar only. The hubs was ok with it, but I was very annoyed internally. I would have preferred to go somewhere else, but I took one for the team.We were seated right in front of the chefs. I enjoy that and most times they will make you sushi items not on the menu. Chef specials if you will. Nope not tonight pooh bear. They stuck to menu items only despite not being busy.Oh BTW the conveyor was off yet another sigh from the peanut gallery.Even though I've been to another conveyor place not to long ago and their belt was on and each item was covered
The items did have about 3 plates distance between them. Oh yes starters. seaweed salad, cucumber salad, calamari tempura, baby octopus skewer, garlic and shrimp skewer, scallop and bacon skewer, sweet shrimp, octopus, shrimp bomb, creamy shrimp, jalapeno poppers, soft shell crab( no I didn't order all this at once). The cucumber salad lacked the usual intense vinegar flavor i so enjoy it was also minus the crab overall a let down. The baby octopus was spicy almost to much, could barely see the octopus because of how much sauce that was on it. It was fried but not to long, it was not rubbery like you get sometimes. Did I mention it was spicy? ( Keep in mind I'm a light weight when it comes to spicy). The calamari was really good I ordered it twice. I preferred the scallop skewer over the shrimp one based completely on taste. The shrimp were very bland, and not garlicky at all in my opinion. I even ate the little garlic pieces that came with it and still nothing. The hubs and I ordered oysters.I would have enjoyed a bit if a mignonette on them. I ordered a oyster shooter in sake. Hello new favorite item. The oyster was covered in the most flavorful sake and what tasted like some vinegar and something else that I can't put my finger on. Truthfully I sipped on this liquid a couple of times before doing the shot. The oyster was fresh and almost creamy. If you like oysters then I HIGHLY recommend the oyster shooter. Oh yes I forgot to mention I ordered a pineapple saketini, ummm yeah save yourself 9 bucks and order something else. It tasted like slightly watered down pineapple juice. I did not get any sake flavor from it. The drink was served room temp and it came with a soda straw. Huge disappointment.I really enjoyed the rock and roll. Its wrapped in cucumber vs seaweed. Very fresh, full of flavor, nice crisp cucumber, the tuna and salmon were also very flavorful. I really liked the vinegar sauce.I would diffently order this again very refreshing roll.I ordered some baked mussels, soft shell crab, takoyaki. I really wanted jelly fish salad but they were out. The baked mussels were the standard cooked method you find at most sushi places nothing to write home about. The soft shell crab was lightly battered and fried, light and not greasy. The takoyaki was very good again another item I would order again. Soft in texture and very moist. The hubs ordered sexy maguro the spicy tuna was smooth and velvety. He also ordered the Las Vegas roll. Was your typical tempura roll as far as flavor went. It wasn't bad but it didn't have any wow factor to it either. For dessert I got the fried oreo, if you like chocolate this is for you. Portion size is small and its swimming in chocolate sauce that reminded me of Hersey's chocolate liquid used to make chocolate milk.
When it comes to conveyor belt sushi I will probably bypass this one and head over to one of the others.A huge positive of the evening our server Adrian he was AMAZING. Very polite very attentive always available.when assistance was needed. He is an asset to the resturant.
