Konbini

We planned to visit Konbini NY last year for its egg sandwiches when they opened. However, we didn’t get a chance due to the limited serving time before 4pm. The decor was adorable with colors and illustrations on the wall. Their service was nice but reluctant due to low staffing. We had their Mentaiko Mozzarella Eggbini and Cheese Tonkatsu to share with latte from Devocion which is one of my favorites & matcha latte. Their food was decent and the egg sandwich was a surprise that the egg was super soft & creamy. The Tonkatsu was cheesy and satisfying but kind of greasy. The options on their menu were various and we would like to try Udon and Donburi Bowl next time.

Their egg sandwiches are so perfectly cooked. I could eat them every day if they were down the block from my place. The sukiyaki was a tad too sweet after a few slurps and it could've used a few more pieces of beef. Tempura was nicely cooked, but held a little too much oil. I'd definitely go back for more sandwiches and to try the other dishes.

Passed by and saw this new Japanese restaurant in K town. So decide to give a try. They have few lunch set. I order Onigirazu set lunch special $11 It comes with small portion of Wakame udon -grilled salmon broccoli onigirazu The portion was decent. The onigirazu was pretty good, lots of salmon and vegetables. The flavor was simple and light. Fee pretty healthy. And the small portion of wakame udon. Only some vege and udon. Very simple, nothing really special. And the set comes with ginger and pickles. I heard in the morning they serve egg sandwich. The yelp looks pretty good, would like to try sometime as well.

I was craving japanese comfort food on this beautiful Fall evening when I came across Kobini located in Koreatown. They have a very robust menu of all your traditional japanese classic foods ranging from Udon to Takoyaki balls. They’re also famous for their “eggBini” which can be customized with different protein options. Their Sukiyaki Udon is incredible!

The pictures of eggbini on the menu look like it was fluffy, soft egg scramble, but it was just a regular egg inside the bread. The sauce was also just on the top of the bread. The whole thing just tasted like bread and egg. . I ordered Ebikatsu Sando. The waiter asked me if I ordered Ebikatsu Sando before serving me the dish, and when I finally took a bite, it was tonkatsu Sando. They gave me the new one but it just tasted like frozen shrimp patties from the grocery store.

Ever since they officially opened toward the end of 2019, I have been wanting to visit Konbini. It is located in K-Town, so I had a feeling that this was not really Japanese owned/operated, and I was right... Since it is still during the pandemic, they had some outdoor seating, and some limited indoor seating. The menu looked really great, mostly what you might see in some casual restaurants in Japan. We asked for the Hot Coffee with milk, and we received coffee without milk, so we had to ask for it again… Once we poured the milk in there, we realized we didn’t get anything to stir with…so we used our fork. They need to do a bit better job with the way they serve coffee. We were very hungry, so, we decided to order two individual dishes, and one set menu. We ordered Mentaiko Mozzarella Eggbini, Butadon, and Cheese Tonkatsu Set. The eggbini was somewhat smaller than I've seen in photos, but maybe because of the choice of filling? It was cheesy and melty, very spicy, but so very flavorful. The Butadon was really amazing and very filling! Cheese Tonkatsu Set came with sesame seeds in a traditional-looking mortar and pestle. I thought it was really cool! They were freshly fried, yet not greasy. A great portion to make you full and satisfied. We were super full after trying three of their dishes, much more than expected. Their portion is great! The staffs here are not the most friendly people, nor most efficient, but courteous, and seems to be hard to workers. We were very happy with our orders, I would like to try some other menu items in a future!

Not too crowded during COVID-19 times, good contact tracing procedures, indoor and outdoor seating available. Ebi and Mozzarella Eggbini was fluffy and filling, takoyaki was typical, seafood creamy udon was yummy but also pricey.

Amazing find in NY!! We have been looking for a Japanese casual dining place (not sushi) in New York for so long and this is it! Delicious snacks and meal combos - will be our go-to in k town from hereon! Not sure what ppl were talking about in terms of service- they were so fast with food and even put us (2 ppl) in a bigger booth so the seating is more comfortable. Btw they have this amazing brown sugar bubble tea and select dessert from SPOT!
