The 19 Best Restaurants In Sun Valley - Sun Valley - The Infatuation

"Konditorei used to feel straight out of The Sound of Music, with waitresses decked out in full Austrian dirndls for uniforms, but the dirndls were retired years ago and today it feels more like a contemporary ski chalet dropped in the middle of the Sun Valley Village. That Austrian influence is still strong, though, and finds its way onto the extensive all-day breakfast menu in the form of pork schnitzel, spaetzle, and rosti. The menu has plenty of breakfast staples, too, like benedicts, bagels, avocado toast, crepes, and waffles, as well as several pastry cases of housemade delights, all done exceptionally well. The drink menu is just as detailed, including coffee and a full Bloody Mary section." - hayden seder

Google
Great go-to for a quick breakfast in beautiful Portola valley. Fresh bagel and coffee! Highly recommend.

M Ferrick

Google
It's been awhile since I had an excellent latte. They had it dialed in. I ordered a Baja Mushroom breakfast sandwich in a croissant 🥐it was so delicious 😋. Hope to return again.

Google
Had an early morning appointment nearby and was an hour early. Stopped here for breakfast sandwich and most importantly my cappuccino. Cappuccinno was done just right. Sandwich was good and service fast. Had the Portola Valley Special (egg, artichoke, tomato cheese). Inside seating was available.

Anne Pius

Google
We loved the breakfast bagel sandwiches. They were hot and savory. The coffee was also delicious. This is a very popular weekend cafe with only a few tables. We had to dine outside at a table (it was chilly) and there was a long line out the door as we departed.

The Soulers

Google
Okay, chill spot to hang out and write reports. Coffee shop vibes, friendly and inviting. Incredibly helpful and ... for lack of better words, a nice soul. I enjoyed basking in their glow engrossed in my own works. When done is done, it was like leaving a spa.

Caring Cowgirl

Google
I love this place! The owners and staff are si nice. They remember my order and always ask how my day is. Ps the Mexican iced mochas are the best!

Suzanne Frey

Google
Fast service, great bagels. I don't like the coffee beans they use (more on the fruity/bitter side of things), but this place serves a valuable role in Portola Valley and provides a quick/easy AM fix.

Google
First time. Ordered a large house with a house-baked chocolate cupcake. They matched very well. And, the crew was very kind.

Yelp
Sweet little coffee and bagel shop in a pretty shopping plaza. Nice outdoor seating. Kids working at the counter were nice and the food and drinks came out fast. The bagel was alright; the jalapeño cream cheese was super delicious. I'd definitely stop by here again.

Yelp
Gross coffee and bad attitude. Waste of money. Asked for an iced latte. Made it hot. Solution was to pour the hot latte over ice. No thank you. I won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't be forgotten! The 'waaaay too chill, bro' guy at the register took my order and my money, then completely lost my ticket, or forgot to put it in the computer. I was the only person in the store for several minutes, yet the whole staff managed to ignore / completely forget about me. Ultimately, it took like 20 minutes to get an 'egg & cheese bagel'. If you go, keep an eye on them. Make sure they know you're an actual customer, waiting for your order - and not just some loiterer, or whatever they thought I was doing there. [insert shrug emoji]
google avatar

Yelp
Staff was less than helpful - they have several baked items on the counter that say they are wheat free, but when asked if they contain gluten (celiac), cashier just shook their head and shrugged. Wound up just having a drink since I was there with a group - definitely won't bother going back or including in any gluten groups. if you have celiac - don't waste your time stopping here.

Yelp
Is this a joke?? I spent $13 on this. It's 1/4 of an avocado, two strange pieces of bacon, and no seasoning (should have salt and pepper according to their menu). This is avocado toast? I'm sorry but this is just blowing my mind. My first time stopping by here and I'm never coming back.

Michele W.

Yelp
The service is inconsistent. They do not make the orders in the order that they were received so sometimes your food comes out promptly and sometimes you're waiting while they serve the people who came in after you. This wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't 8 o'clock in the morning and I had to get my child to school myself to work.

Yelp
USED TO BE best Mexican Mocha in the Bay Area. I think they use real Mexican hot chocolate crumbs. This used to be my favorite coffee shop on the way to SF but it's gone down hill as of late. I decided to give it a second chance but not a third. I ordered a Mexican mocha and just from picking it up from the counter I could tell it was watery and it was. Tasted like watered down coffee, no mocha taste just milk and water. Was really let down. I had ordered two for my partner as well and they both were watery as a size small and a large.

Yelp
A small cafe that's a good little brunch spot, maybe a morning date if that's what you want. Service is pretty good too.
google avatar

Steven W.

Yelp
The service here is not great. On more than one occasion they have gotten our order wrong or the food is cold or they food comes out slow. They did not make the food in the order that we arrived and made us late for school.
google avatar

Saniya L.

Yelp
After finishing half a bagel sandwich, felt something off and found a piece of DIRTY plastic. It was really disgusting, considering the fact it was in my mouth. Disappointing since my mom and I consider this are go to place in the morning whenever we're in the area.
google avatar

Juliana P.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday afternoon to get some bagel sandwiches. I was surprised to find so many people there. I ordered the green goddess bagel sandwich. The wait was a bit longer than I expected and they messed up our order so I did experience a moment of hangriness. The sandwich itself was solid but I personally wished they had an option with tomatoes for more of a refreshing taste. The eggs were nicely done and not over cooked, which was nice. I wish they had an option with cream cheese and veggies, which was what I was craving. Overall, it's a nice breakfast spot with both indoor and outdoor seating, and very dog friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the grilled chicken on a bagel. Best darn bagel sandwich I've ever had. Next time I come through town I'm eating here!!!
google avatar

Dhanh M.

Yelp
This is my new go to place. The sandwich variety as well as the yummy deserts deserve an extra star over 5. Too bad they do not have a location in San Mateo/ Belmont/Redwood City!

Jane S.

Yelp
Coffee was great! Ordered bagel with cream cheese and tasted really good. A coffee shop that I will definitely recommend.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
This is a quaint little cafe in a quaint little strip mall. I like the decor, has a nice vibe to it. I was there in the morning and picked up some muffins, bagels, and donuts. All were satisfactory +, the staff was friendly and it was a quick in and out.
google avatar

Yelp
I used to love Konditorei's Sunny Veggie bagel. It's all I would ever order, because it was always amazing. After not being there for at least a year, I went in today to order it - and they put MAYO on it!! Who puts mayonnaise with sun-dried tomato pesto? That totally killed it for me. I guess I'll just need to make sure next time I order it to have them hold the mayo. Note to chefs: please lose the mayo on this one.. If that happens, I'll come back and give 5 stars :-). I do have to say that I'm glad they are making bobas now. The mango black tea boba is really yummy.
google avatar

Katherine M.

Yelp
Nice breakfast sandwiches, drinks and desserts. We end up loading up on the omelette bagels, lattes and cookies. Very nice and friendly staff!
google avatar

Ruslan K.

Yelp
Got a severe E Coli poisoning here after eating their turkey sandwich. I'm very sure it was from here cause I didn't eat anything else that day doing blood tests which required fasting. About an hour or so after eating this sandwich I got crazy chills, diarrhea, extreme fatigue, headache and nausea. Kept burping the lettuce that was in that sandwich so I suspect that being a culprit.
google avatar

Akila N.

Yelp
Cold brew was not very good and would recommend a latte or something else, they had a variety of muffins and baked goods that were good. Service is good and ambiance is good for studying or catching up with friends
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
Came to Konditorei after a hike on Windy Hill today. I've been here many times before for coffee/lattes and pastries But today 3 of us came for lunch. I wasn't aware that they had a robust lunch offering. They had a variety of different sandwiches, served either on bread or a bagel. I had the roasted chicken sandwich and it was excellent Nice to sit outside and chat with friends after the hike

Yelp
Very nice local bakery/cafe. Selection is A bit limited, but friendly service. Staff knows the name of a lot of local regulars. Good for breakfast. Selection very limited by afternoon.
google avatar

Kristie C.

Yelp
Dog friendly seating, indoor quiet seating available with some chargers. Standard fare like bagels and pastries like donuts and muffins available. Good for a quick breakfast + egg whites available + gluten free options available + white or wheat toast available (not very tasty tho haha)
google avatar

Yelp
Konditorei is a delightful and extremely clean cafe! The muffins, croissants and bagels are fabulous (I am a tough eater as a former New Yorker). Amy and staff are so pleasant and know many of their customers on a first name basis. This cafe will be a regular spot on every trip to Silicon Valley!!

Nnn M.

Yelp
A nice cozy cafe in Portola valley. Food options are just right for cafe Service is good. Feels like it is run by family.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Great lattes, alternative milks available, decent sweet bakery, great everything bagels, mellow vibes, friendly staff.

D S.

Yelp
Wonderful - try the egg-wiches (egg with toppings on bagel). I only wish they were open later in the afternoon for a coffee & snack!
google avatar

Charlie B.

Yelp
The outside space here is so incredibly peaceful and relaxing. I love to order the warm ham and cheese melted on a buttery croissant - its simple and delicious. Followed with a smooth cup of coffee - its really pretty great. I love that the team puts out brown sugar to add spoonfuls to your coffee as for me, it makes a huge difference to taste the different kind of toffee hues. Me and beagle boy sit outside which garners lots of attention with him being so darn cute! The people who frequent here are friendly and polite - we love to hang out here as our little slice of heaven. There's a walking greenbelt across the street that runs along Alpine Road that shouldn't be missed. Chill neighborhood cafe offering breakfast items, pastries & outside seating in a relaxed ambiance.

Yelp
I always get a bag of coffee from them. Thei coffee taste good. Friendly services make me come back as well.

Brian X.

Yelp
My usual whenever in town. Great breakfast bagel sandwiches and espresso. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Bianca V.

Yelp
Konditorei has a really cute setup and an elaborate menu. As soon as i entered i was greeted with kind words and a warm smile. I decided on the Kale Marry Smoothie which was smooth, creamy, and sweet. Not what you'd expect for a kale smoothie. I also got an egg and cheese bagel with everything bagel seasoning. The seasoning was a little strong for me, but it was overall good. I must add that the shop has a bit of a burnt smell, hence the 4 stars. Good food!
google avatar

Omar Y.

Yelp
GLORIOUS gluten-free bagel breakfast sandwiches with Odd Bagel bagels. The cappuccino I had was full-flavored without being overroasted and well done too. I will definitely be back again!
google avatar

Shannon Z.

Yelp
They now have yummy tart yogurt!!! YAY! Also the "special" Cilantro Chutney Swiss Cheese sandwich is killer. The flakey raspberry jam crossiant, warmed tastes like heaven! I personally think the warm raspberry crossiant would KILL the chocolate crossiant in a taste test battle to the death! So yes fools, eat up all the chocolate ones cause you have no idea what your missing out on. :)

Jake K.

Yelp
We like this small friendly cafe for lunch. Staff is very friendly and outgoing. It's amazing how they remember what we usually order! Nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. We usually order the bagel sandwiches so can't vouch for other items on the menu. Seems the owners enjoy interacting with the public and want to be very accommodating. Just wish they were open a little later than 1:30pm. Maybe when Covid is history, they will extend their hours.

Danette D.

Yelp
Everytime I go here (it's in my neighborhood) I swear I'll never go again. This time I paid $7 for a soy latté. That was enough but when they handed me a tepid, half full drink, that was too much! I don't enjoy getting ripped off first thing in the morning.
google avatar

Bettina H.

Yelp
Ordered an iced coffee because it was SO BLAZING HOT outside. I'd intended to order a drink and a pastry and relax inside for a while, but it was like a greenhouse. My iced coffee? I got a gigantic cup of ice with a little iced coffee. It was 83 degrees outside, but 90+ inside! I asked the clerk a few different ways if they normally have AC? Was it broken or normally rely on just fans? No answer. Hmmm. Pretending you don't hear a customer (she heard my order just fine!) makes me believe no AC may be a safe assumption, and is also rude. Won't be back.

Charles C.

Yelp
Amy and the staff at Konditorei are the best. She remembers everyone's name and preference after a couple of visits; the baked goods are fresh and the espresso drinks perfect. A major neighborhood gathering place.
google avatar

Cindy T.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way home from San Francisco and surprisingly had the best bagelwich I've ever had! Coffee, service, and overall vibe was wonderful as well! Will stop here every time.
google avatar

Preston G.

Yelp
Zero eye contact, Minimal interaction when ordering. Ordered a chai latte and peanut butter cookie. Left a 2.78 dollar tip to no thank you or goodbye. Got into my vehicle and had my first sip of some sort of coffee latte. Figured the cookie would be a decent consolation- to no avail! Horribly stale. Both in the trash. Do yourself a favor and drive up the road a bit to another business who cares.

Yelp
I got a latte and a Portola Valley bagel omelet here. A bagel omelet is a hot bagel with scrambled eggs and other toppings. I believe the scrambled eggs are prepared in advance so they make the food quickly. The bagel arrived quite hot, with melty cheese. They toasted the outside but unfortunately didn't toast the inside, which turned into a soggy mush from the tomatoes and eggs. This put a damper (pun intended) on my brunch experience. The artichokes tasted a bit too pickle-y. The eggs were cooked well but the color was off, almost a pale green. Overall it was a bit of a disappointment and I wouldn't get one of these again. The atmosphere also left something to be desired--no music, loud humming from a fan and refrigerators, drafty from the open door, and somehow the kitchen noises seemed amplified. The wifi was down. I guess if there's a bathroom you have to walk through the entire counter/kitchen area to get to it. At least they have self-serve water and a nice art wall. On the other hand, the latte was quite nice and a generous size. I would come here for coffee only. There is a decent selection of drip coffees.

Yelp
Excellent bagel, coffee, baked goods ... great service. Efficient precise clean polite and accommodating. This is our go to spot during the lockdown.
google avatar

Tracy O.

Yelp
Finally, a coffee-shop open past 2pm near where I live, with my essentials: great food, great coffee and tea, and wireless! The power outlets are generous as well, about one to every table along the back wall. The mexican mocha is very smooth, cinnamon-y and creamy. I also had their pots of tea with Jasmine Pearl. You actually get a large pot of tea and teacups for only $3. I do wish their food selection was a bit more generous and perhaps I just hit them on a bad day, since the available pastries only fill up about a 6th of the case. But it's still a wonderful place that just gained a new regular! EDIT: Mmmm their caramel latte is nummy as well, but don't forget to specify "for-here" if you're staying because they automatically stick it in a paper cup. Case of goodies is still mostly empty.
google avatar

Lily K.

Yelp
Great iced lattes and AWESOME bagels... especially for the west coast. :) There is indoor and outdoor seating + outlets if you're doing work.
google avatar

Aureliano C.

Yelp
I didn't know what Koditorei means so i looked it up. It's German for patisserie/confectionary cafe. Learned somethin new! I work nearby so when i'm on break and need to do some studying i can come here and sit in/outside to use their complimentary wifi and sip on some local coffee. I've never been a fan of bagels or eating breads in general (not cuz i'm a healthy yoga gluten free anaphylactic type), but you can get a nice breakfast on a bagel, smoothie, or espresso/coffee drink here. if you need to pick up a card for someone they have a nice selection of them. Speaking of gluten free, they do offer a variety of baked goods that are if you're having a sweet tooth or a chocolate conniption. It gets pretty busy cuz sometimes so patience is a virtue. Nobody likes an impatient prick.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Nice place to pick up an espresso or two. The pastries are nice as well. Haven't had an omolette so can't rate them.
google avatar

Diane W.

Yelp
Wonderful little coffee shop in beautiful Portola Valley. Nice shady outside tables. The lady barista made the best cup of spicy Chai Tea I have ever had. She warmed the cup before pouring the perfect concoction with just the thinnest layer of creamy foam and rich tea. Everyone was very friendly. Lovely relaxing place.
google avatar

Joel A.

Yelp
Konditorei is exactly what I was hoping. Small, not over-run with other college students (yet), and a friendly atmosphere conducive to getting some work done. ATMOSPHERE Light holiday music around this time of year. A few other patrons are having conversations in the room. It is audible but not intrusive. I'm working aside another woman against the right wall, which is lined with booth-style seating that faces in towards the rest of the tables. There are ample wall outlets. The serving and counter area has a great layout. COFFEE & BAGELS The coffee is good but not great, in my opinion. The "for here" presentation is very nice - it comes in a plain, white, low profile mug perfect for sipping. Bagels w/ cream cheese have a good ratio of cream cheese to bagel.
google avatar

Monica S.

Yelp
My +1 and I were looking for a new coffee spot, so we took a motorcycle ride down through the redwoods to give Konditorei a try. Past Yelp reviews made me wonder if the 4-stars were more a sign of "local halo effect" than impressive wares - and our experience confirmed this. There are positive aspects to Konditorei, but overall the experience was forgettable and not worth a future trip. Pros: fast free wifi, husband liked his croissant Meh: seating area cluttered and awkward to maneuver in due to too many excess chairs; bagel fine enough but reminds me of the pre-made kind that come in plastic bags at the grocery store; latte mediocre Also, half the store appears to be knick-knacks (e.g. novelty post-its, greeting cards and stuffed animals) - seemed odd. I'd come back if this were the closet coffee shop to me and I just wanted a place to camp out and caffeinate. Konditorei is fine for locals, but not really a four star destination.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
This is not a traditional "Konditorei" like in Europe (probably not baked onsite), but the croissants are just as good. I love the chocolate one, really great flavor and the right amount of chocolate. Must come early to get croissants, they are usually sold out by noon. Free Wifi, nice and quiet outdoor seating. This place is solid! Portola Valley is known mostly for the nearby hiking trails, this is a great place to stop after a hike on Windy Hill.

Alison Taylor D.

Yelp
Yummy bagels and pastries and coffee! I always get a strange coffee order and they always make it correctly. And Amy is lovely! Wonderful place for breakfast or lunch!
