The Konditorei Bakery is located in the Sun Valley Village, a high end, very attractive compound with many unique boutiques and one of a kind restaurants. It is an easy walk to the Sun Valley Lodge, a magnificent resort that should also be on your must-see list.
This restaurant is an upscale bakery/cafe that is roomy, clean, and a very quaint, Alpine interior. The "hook" here is the large display of gorgeous pastries and baked goods in several glass cases, and an open kitchen where you can observe them work, from many angles. However, our conclusion to having breakfast here was, in appearance, it looked fabulous, but the actual meal was underwhelming.
It all started with them microwaving my quiche, a pastry-like presentation rather than a pie slice. The top hardened into cheese jerky. Otherwise it would have been good. The ham chunks were delicious and generous. While it had more like a delicate souffle consistency than an eggy custard, but it did have a thin, flaky crust. I would recommend this be a to-go item that you can lightly warm in your own oven.
The breakfast Schnitzel was a decent sized cutlet that was thick and super lean. It was not at all tender, but the meat had a decent flavor and coating. The sausage- cream gravy was salty and over seasoned with herbs. Comes with 2 eggs and a large German potato cake.
The Avocado Toast got a mixed reaction from me. The avocado was overprocessed into a spreadable consistency that was already starting to turn brown. The toppings were great: freshly shredded radish, sprouts, cherry tomatoes, shitake mushroom bacon, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. The whole grain toast was heavy, chewy, tough. I was disappointed they do not bake their own bread. I would not get this again because of the avocado and bread.
Good coffee, $3.50 for an endless cup. Our server kept our cups full withoutour needing to ask. Much appreciated.
Not anxious to return. Ketchum has many breakfast and lunch places to choose from.
