15 Portland Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know for February | Eater Portland

"A new sports bar that replaced the old Pickles Public House and will offer typical pub food prepared by staff who are, as co-owner Chris Mateja put it, “more chefs than line cooks.”" - Harry Cheadle

The Best New Cocktail Bars in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Kooks is the newest sports bar to open on North Mississippi Avenue, throwing open its doors in early February with plenty of TVs for sports fans. The bar has some crowd-pleasing beer options, but it also has some fun moments with Jell-O shots, a Jabroni Negroni (Miller High Life and Campari), and Clever Sports Pun, a cocktail made with roasted poblanos and pineapple mixed with your choice of tequila or mezcal." - Ben Coleman

How Chains Like Chipotle Get a Pass on Appropriation | Eater

"A Portland burrito cart whose operators admitted to appropriating techniques from Mexican tortilla-makers in Puerto Nuevo in order to replicate and profit from those methods back home, an instance cited as problematic cultural and intellectual property appropriation." - Jenny Dorsey

I don’t leave reviews often but these are quite literally the nastiest wings I’ve ever had. All due respect. Love to see the carrots are clearly fresh and such but I took one bite of that chicken and that was all I needed. Very icky wings and that was intended to be my dinner 🥲

I didn't try the food, but the service was great. Awesome open space, patio deck, upstairs bar area too. They have many TV's with all the sports. 1 HUGE SCREEN also.

Food was horrible. Fries were extremely old..you could taste the old grease in the hard old fries. They had to be sitting and then I think they tried to reheat/retry them. I know its a dive bar but the presentation was worse than a gas station. My quesadilla was so sloppy made ( and incorrect) it was like they just threw it in the basket. Some of the pieces were open and the ingredients were all over the other pieces...which is how I could easily tell the order was wrong. I really wanted my money back for all of it but the ginger ale...the ginger ale was the best. The bar staff was nice but she didn't seem to be supported as she didn't know how to do refunds and it took someone 20-30 minutes to get back to her about how to do it. If you train people thoroughly the first time...it helps. She was sweet and meant well but this is not the spot to eat..bar is subpar...so unless you want a baseline alcohol brand or a beer..dont be hungry....eat somewhere else.... also...freezing inside wear layers and a coat!

After Mississippi street fair, we go to Kooks to keep hanging… terrible service, did last call then yelling at everyone to hurry up and finish their drinks so they can close. Not allowing customers to use the restroom! Awful experience… never again. Last year it was called something else and the vibe and customer service was way better… 👎🏽

All made from scratch food. Including vegan options. Pinball, big buck hunter, two new pool tables. Incredible staff. New fave bar in town. And you can bring dogs that can behave.

We were looking for a bar to watch March madness and we didn’t even realize this bar opened! 10/10 I got zero proof mountain mules (yum) and the fried cauliflower (I could have drank the smoked yogurt - delicious!)

My girlfriend and I came in at exactly 10:00 PM 06/05/2025, genuinely probably the worst attitude I’ve received from a bartender. She also pointed out where to leave a tip on the receipt, just overall the lowest level of professionalism. Will never return

Google
Awesome space, food is a cut above your typical sports bar. Staff was cool, and they support local sports organizations!

Yelp
We went for Opening Day without realizing it was a new bar - there had been another sports bar in this location previously. The food was not just bar food. It was GOOD food! The hummus paste and the falafel sandwich were outstanding! Owners were serving behind the bar and very friendly. The kind of people whose small business you want to support. We didn't check out the mezzanine until we were about to leave, but that is definitely the place to be. Darts, pool, full view of the big screen, just a generally cool place to be. Definitely our new spot.

Yelp
I get it's the super bowl and I get it's busy, but a two hour wait for MOZZERELLA STICKS, just to find out it's 86'd is absurd. Good priced beers doesn't make up for the lack of customer service. Luckily, we got a refund and I had to damn near had to beg the lower bar staff to give us food we were waiting 2 hours for. I work in a restaurant so i understand busy, but this was ridiculous. Bartenders are standing around wasting time so busy isn't even the problem. Glad this is the service i'm getting visiting Portland from San Diego. The only reason this place gets stars is because it's the super bowl, and the beers are reasonably priced (for San Diego standards).

Yelp
Went in around 1pm on a whim while walking by. Apparently, it's grand opening weekend. The person that served me happened to be one of the owners/partners. I believe his name was Chris, but don't quote me on that. Regardless, he was extremely friendly, down to earth, and attentive. The place was spacious, plenty of TVs for sports, with cool alt/indie music playing too for a vibe that's not just college bro sports bars. There were a couple of pinball machines downstairs and Buck Hunter upstairs, along with pool tables and darts and another bar. I ordered a cheap can of beer (plenty of $3-4 options and a good selection of draft beers) and a smashburger with cheese and chips (only $12!). The food was surprisingly on point! The burger was juicy, had plenty of pickles and sauce, and had a delicious soft bun that didn't moosh out. As someone who hates the trend of smashburgers that are fried to a crisp, this hit the spot right between boring thin patty and burnt beef crisps. If their opening weekend is any indication of what's to come, this place is well worth visiting to watch a game, have a drink, and grab a bite.
