Kooriya Peace - Review - Kichijoji - Tokyo - The Infatuation

"With mountains of fluffy shaved ice cloaked in homemade syrups, dolloped with whipped cream, and sprinkled with chunks of fresh fruit, Kooriya Peace in Kichijoji didn’t become one of the most famous kakigori shops in Tokyo by accident. The ever-changing menu, which is just as creative as it is playful, celebrates the ripest fruits of the season through different forms. There's melon-flavored kakigori sculpted to resemble a real melon and mont blanc with chestnut and rum. This casual, small shop seats about 15 people max, so a line can quickly form. Luckily, you can make a reservation, which comes in handy during the summer when everyone is trying to escape Tokyo’s brutal heat. photo credit: Julio Koshiishi" - Kiera Wright-Ruiz

Was excited to try this spot but didn’t end up dining in as there’s a minimum order of one per person and I didn’t want to eat a whole one (and they’re not cheap). You can get takeaway but the flavours aren’t the same. We tried the pineapple and jasmine tea which was nice, but I think the dine in experience would be better.

The kakigori here is nice but not as good as other places I have visited. I felt like the ingredient quality wasn’t as good as other locations I have tried, making the flavour of the kakigori less impressive and more muted. I wasn’t a big fan of the blue jelly inside the melon flavour, I didn’t think it went at all. I do however think the ice texture was very good.

So delicious. This was the best shaved Ice I have ever had. The ones we tried all had fillings and were amazing.

We ordered and paid first when entering, before sitting down. Only Paypay or Cash was accepted. Each visitor needs to order one. The hot tea is self-serve and a lifesaver once you're 3/4 of the way through your kakigori 😆 In February on a Tuesday morning before noon, there was no wait and we only saw two other customers while we enjoyed our kakigori, so it's a good time to visit :)) Both kakigori we chose were delicious! The strawberry milk one tasted exactly as you'd expect of strawberries and milk. The mont blanc was not overly sweet and the homemade sauce had a good roasted chestnut flavour and texture. The cookies and cacao inside the kakigori were nice surprises that changed the texture and kept things interesting even as you get full 😊 We will definitely be back for another visit.

Delicious little popular shop! Very nice and polite workers When I first arrived around 11:30am there was about 5 people infront, some people put their names in the list for later time slots. I put my name for the first availability which was 1153 am which I was fine waiting However after the group of three was seated who were in-front of me, they sat me too so I only wanted less than 10 minutes You pay first and then get seated. After seated it took them 10-15 minutes to get it to me since each shaved ice is made to perfect detail and attention. Prices range from mid 1000yen to 2400 yen. Of course my eyes wander to the most pretty which was the strawberry pistachio shaved ice that can be made alcoholic but I didn’t want alcohol in it. This was the most expensive- costing me 2400 yen. It looks big and filling but it’s very light and nice treat for a hot summer day. The flavors were appear and very nice! I loved my shaved ice. Would def recommend

Great shaved ice!! They have seasonal menus. We had melon and piña colada. Each person had to order one and you have to pay cash. You must book in advance if you want to sit inside, otherwise you can takeaway. The shaved ice has pieces of fruit inside!

Each person has to order one bowl. Which can be a bit much, so come with a bit of space in your stomach! Everything we ordered was delicious. Plus there’s free flow hot tea.

The Netflix series Kantaro the Sweet Tooth Salaryman made me embark on a pilgrimage to this place, and of course I ordered the melon sorbet kakigori. It really did feel like my body was engulfed in melon - the kakigori was laden with melon puree, melon jelly, melon sorbet, and chunks of melon. Plenty of melon flavour and lots of variation in texture. If not for the fact that I was stuffed and was concerned about my sugar intake, I would have gone for another. But I guess I shall have to leave that for my next visit.

Yelp
Kooriya Peace is a spot that specializes in Shaved Ice, all year long. We went there to try their shaved ice in January. They have a menu with pictures right by the door, and you need to decide what to order before you enter. The menu changes frequently, with season and what ingredients are freshly available. The inside is not so large, but understandable as they only offer shaved ice. They have a counter seating of around 10 or so seats. You can get some hot green tea from the self-service station. Eating a large cold shaved ice might need a little bit of warmth after a while. They had eight different kinds on this day, and they all looked really good. It was not easy to choose, but I went with the Mont Blanc with Chestnut and Rum. It comes with a side of rum raisins. You might say it is pricy for a shaved ice, but it is huge, great quality, and look how pretty and artistic it is! The ice was fluffy and airy, packed just enough to hold all the creamy drizzle toppings without being too hardened. It had some more chestnut cream in the middle as well, so you get the flavor and creaminess throughout. The drizzle had amazing flavor of the chestnut, sweet and nutty. I really enjoyed it. Mu hubby went with a more of New Years special design, that looks like Kagami-Mochi that you see during the New Years. It was Kumquat Iriki and Lemon Verbena scented Sweet Sake. It had white creamy drizzle, with special Iriki kumquat and a few colorful gummies on top to make it extra festive. The white fan looking thing on the top was super crunchy and crispy, adding extra texture to it. This one also had some filling in the middle. The creamy coating was almost like condensed milk with lemon and sweet sake flavor infused in it. The ice, once again, was fluffy and light, yet packed enough to hold the weight and keep its shape. Another awesome creation! We had such fun dessert time here. The owner and the staffs were so welcoming and friendly. Their shaved ice creations are nothing like I've ever had. I love how you can get shaved ice any time of the year!

Yelp
I first heard about this place on Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman, and it lived up to the hype. When you arrive, you will probably need to write your name down on a free time-slot, and come back later. I came here around 3pm and was able to write my name down for a reservation slot for 3:30pm. There is no English menu, but luckily I was accompanied by someone who spoke some Japanese. I had the strawberry and the Salted Carmel, both were pretty good, but I think the strawberry was my favorite. The staff was very nice and serve. us hot tea while we waited for our deserts. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
The pictures do it no justice. You have to see and experience this place yourself. The staff are very attentive, and work fast. It's a small spot with only a handful of seats but they don't rush you at all. They crank out servings for people inside and for those ordering take out. I had the Strawberry Milk and the Salted Caramel. To say they are delicious feels like I'm selling it short. I need a new word to describe how good they are.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The Fuwafuwa Strawberry (Fluffy Strawberry) was so good. They used fresh strawberries in it and topped it with freshly whipped cream. The staff was very friendly and helpful even though my Japanese wasn't very good. Note: they do not have English menu.
