Mediterranean Hit Dune Closes Downtown Shop For Weeks-Long Remodel | Eater LA

"Now open in Northridge, Kopan Ramen offers a more izakaya vibe compared with some of the other ten Kopan locations that stick more closely to the noodle-house aesthetic; hours are 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily." - Farley Elliott

Google
Absolutely incredible ramen experience! This is the Tonkotsu Ramen with tofu. There was so much flavor and you can also easily add on extras to your ramen. The spicy garlic edamame was also unique and some of the best edamame I’ve had!

It was a rainy day here in the valley so we wanted something warm and encountered this lovely place. The food was exquisite. Loved everything we ordered. The captain America roll a must try and takoyaki. Tempura yummy as well.

Google
Favorite ramen place, its flavorful and filling. I love their garlic-creamy broth. so far the sushi has always been fresh when we’ve ordered. This is our go-to spot for comfort food. The servers are a bit unfriendly sometimes but overall still our favorite ramen shop in the area.

I was invited to my sister's birthday dinner, which was at this sushi spot. The wait for a table was around 10 minutes due to our reservation, I suggest making one because it was pretty busy in the evening. Our food arrived within 15min of our order. I ended up ordering the spicey vegan ramen and a side of their cucumber salad. I thought the ramen had a nice flavor, but I wish I had gone with the extra spicey; if you like spice, I suggest you do that. The cucumber salad was a great side. The servers were very polite and attentive. The decor is simple, clean, sushi house bamboo (they did still have some Xmas stuff still up while it was February). Over all I had a pleasant time.

I took my wife here tonight for dinner because she wanted ramen. She never been here but I have a while back. I checked on Yelp if there was a wait and it said there was no wait. When we walked in, my wife wanted a booth so we waited like 5 minutes for them to clean it up. Once we got seated, I ordered the spicy edamame for my wife to start off. Then we ordered our ramen noodle. My wife got her at spicy level and added mushrooms. I got my ramen at spicy level, took out the bean sprouts and corn. The spicy edamame came out first and my wife loved them. Then our ramen came out and it looked delicious. They forgot the mushrooms on my wife dish so I let them know and they brought it out. The ramen was so good and my wife loved her ramen soup as well. The service we received was excellent tonight and we had 2 different waiter check with us if everything was good. Finding parking here was easy because it's in a decent size parking lot as well.

May 25, 2024 I took my mom here tonight for late mothers' day dinner and she loved the food. The ribeye Ramen was actually delicious and so was the shrimp shumai. The place was not very busy at the time, around 10: p.m. Everything was fine. However, the service was very slow and it took us almost an hour to wait for our order.

Google
Amazing food and drink, fast service, and overall great experience. The ramen was delicious, their sushi rolls were excellent, and they had a good selection of drinks as well that paired great with our meal. Will definitely come here more often as a regular!

Google
Small dim place lit with Japanese decor lights. It has a cozy feel and the booth are welcoming. The vegetarian Raman was excellent and the seafood soup they had. Sushi was fresh and prefect texture. The service was slow and not very courteous. I would recommend to visit for the food

Yelp
Great and quick service with Tenzin our server who provided it, classic ramen is delicious

Yelp
The service is quick and fast. Kunal was so nice, professional, and attentive. The food quality is on point!

Yelp
I don't know why I disliked the ramen at this spot, the sushi is worth it more to come here than the ramen. I had gotten the Black Kura Mayu Ramen, the amount of black garlic oil on it was way too much it turned the broth more greasy/oily then a tasty broth that it's supposed to be. I couldn't finish my ramen but the sushi is worth it. The whole vibe of the restaurant is cute, I love how it's decorated inside with a Japanese theme. But def stick to the sushi here
google avatar

Aimie N.

Yelp
The tonkotsu ramen with black garlic oil was flavorless (unfortunately :( tasted like water and starch). The red ramen was a tiny bit spicy but was overall lacking flavor. The pork itself was very thinly cut and dry. The redeeming part was the Baja California (also pretty small). Called over the phone to order and the person who answered was nice! Ordered this takeout so we can't really comment on the ambiance o.o

Yelp
Nice small spot in the valley for some Ramen & Curry! The food didn't take long to arrive & the servers were really nice & easy going. The ramen noodles were delicious, cooked perfectly, & was amazing. The pork, the fixings, everything paired perfectly together & that egg was truly the best! The Curry on the other hand was to die for ! So much flavor packed into a bowl you wouldn't wanna get anything else after this ! I definitely recommend this spot ! Thank You

Yelp
I recommend using Yelp to get on the waitlist. Saves lots of time. Around 20 minutes to get seated and 15 minutes to get the food out. Tonkatsu ramen - Broth had a great flavor. The pork was a bit dry. Samurai & YUM Rolls - Great quality and taste! They have a special BOGO 50% off deal during specific days of the week. Pork katsu curry - Delicious but took 10 extra minutes to get out compared to the other dishes. The pickled radish balances out the salty curry well.

Yelp
It's okay, I think there are very few choices in the area and they are lucky for this option which is why there's a pretty hefty wait here. Check in on Yelp! Service was a bit slow albeit they did try which I appreciate. The opening of the restaurant was a bit tight and hectic and strangely designed. I think the ambiance is nice, but a bit cramped. Food was standard, with a bit of a push towards sushi options. A lot of expensive rolls and sushi bits that were okay. The ramen I tried was the spicy miso and the flavor was lackluster and not worth eating. But since it was cold I guess it satisfied the craving.

Yelp
We came on a weekday evening and were seated immediately. The waiter was nice with explaining anything we didn't understand on the menu. My husband and I shared the chicken Katsu ramen with chicken broth. Most ramen places don't have different broth options as I'm not a big fan of pork so I was so happy they were able to substitute with chicken broth. The ramen was perfectly seasoned with the perfect bite texture of the ramen and the chicken Katsu was still slightly crispy. The waiter didn't come by to check on us or fill up water as much which I why I deducted a star. But other than that the food and ambience are great, just a bit pricey. But would def recommend if you are in the area and wanna try ramen!

Yelp
I recently tried the Kara Miso Ramen and it was absolutely delicious! The portion size was just right, and I appreciated being able to choose my protein between pork, chicken, and tofu. As someone who can't handle too much spice, I was glad to see that they offer the option to adjust the spice level. The service was excellent, although there was a bit of a wait on a Thursday night. Overall, a fantastic dining experience!

Yelp
Kopan Ramen's cute ambiance enhances the dining experience, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The charming setting complements the delicious food, making it a delightful place for a meal.

Yelp
I found Maruchan ramen to be better than what this place offered. Arrived at 9 PM, promptly seated after joining the waitlist. Tried the Kuro Mayu ramen, disappointed that our waitress said that we couldn't add spice to it. I was given a bowl of spicy paste but the attempt to make it spicy with paste failed; had to add three bowls for a slight kick. Disappointed with only two small pork pieces. The spicy tuna sushi roll was mediocre. Last call at 9:30 for a 10:30 closing time with just one other party seemed lazy, despite being fully staffed. Cute ramen spot ambiance, but the authenticity didn't extend to the food. The staff, mostly college kids, made the atmosphere awkward with discussions about "toxic relationships," Viagra, and personal matters, which felt unprofessional.

Yelp
Kara miso ramen tasted really good and is pleasantly spicy enough for me to enjoy! I didn't ask for additional toppings because there was enough in the order. The portion is reasonable. I liked that the noodles were nicely chewy to bite! Wished there was bit more protein though without having to order more lol. Baked scallop roll was simply delicious sauces in scallop over california rolls! The naked roll uses soy paper and no rice, but I realize I would prefer with rice lol. The service is exceptional and fast. On a weekday evening, no long line and we were seated quickly. Pro tip is to use Yelp to add self on waitlist if needed! Price to portion is typical. BUT they do have a buy 1 get 1 half off promotion right now from Monday to Thursdays! Overall, I would come back here when in the area for ramen cravings!! Especially for that promotion lol

Yelp
Back after 1 year for an updated review. The service was 100% better this time. Our waiter was constantly checking in on us and was able to explain the menu. I got the black miso ramen but traded out the pork for chicken. We also got the beef gyozas as an appetizer and they were good. Our food came out really fast and we did not have to wait long. The ambiance is very nice here. I recommend coming during the week because the weekends tend to get busy. Located next to other busy restaurants and they all share one large parking lot. *it's currently their 10 year anniversary special and they are giving out scratcher cards. I got a free soda!

Yelp
My son wanted to do Ramen and we picked this place as we were doing our shopping at SK. Man did we luck out. The ambience is great, wait was not too long, the food was amazing. Most amazing Sushi (spicy rose roll) i had in a long time. Also ordered the spicy garlic endamame, and for the main course my son had the pork spicy Ramen and i had the chicken clear bone broth Ramen. Both were were A grade, definite weekly going there again.

Yelp
One of the perks of living in the San Fernando valley is that we have a diverse array of restaurants. It was my first visit to Kopan. The outside sign says Kopan Ramen with Japanese Izakaya below it. There is no mention of sushi, as is in the title of this business's Yelp page. And there is an abundance of sushi offerings at this restaurant. Walking in, one is captured by the subtle but elegant ambiance of this eatery. Lighting is perfect and the booths are well appointed. You had to join the waitlist on a screen at the restaurant (can also be done online.) But seating did not take too long. I like it when they have an abundance of napkins (and chopsticks here) at the table itself. They had a stand up air conditioning unit that was blowing directly at our booth. Being a cold evening I asked for a table elsewehere. The server volunteered to shut off the air conditioning and did so immediately. First time I have been successful in this regard :) We ordered the mixed tempura appetizer for starters. Then the spicy tuna tempura roll. Finished it up with a to-go mango ice cream macaroon ($5). Everything we had at the restaurant was good. Mixed tempura had vegetables and two shrimps. The sushi roll was well prepared and hit the notes of texture, flavor and taste. The macaroon was frozen solid and survived the trip home well. Even though it was small, when it thawed out the outer coverings were biscuit crisp and the inside was creamy and delicious. Service was prompt, courteous and professional. Worthy of another visit.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I see why this place is busy! The food was so delicious! I took off a star because they said they only had one chef at the moment and the food would take an hour to make. Overall experience was great! The food was amazing, it was kid friendly as we brought our daughter and we all had fun. We had ramen and sushi and all of it was so tasty! The ramen was hot and flavorful and the sushi was fresh. There is a big parking lot but parking can be hard since there are a lot of stores. We can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Shareen S.

Yelp
The sushi is just flat. Disappointed in the sushi here. Fast food sushi. No flavor. Too mushy. Everything in the Senorita roll tasted the same. I tried the spicy Mayo and it had almost no chili sauce in it, mostly just mayonnaise. Polite servers, however poor quality. The water was served warm and without ice. I ordered appetizers and no one brought any small plates or sauce bowls typically served when ordering sushi and apps. Miso soup tasted like burnt plastic and didn't have any tofu in it. The only thing I liked at this place was the dim lighting and aesthetic. Hard to believe they've been in service for a decade.

Yelp
Beautiful ambience, clean and spacious interior, excellent service, delicious ramen and a good value.
google avatar

Jaymes N.

Yelp
Things have really gone downhill in the last couple of years. Portion sizes have shrunk and quality has fallen by the wayside. Meat portions in the ramen have absolutely SHRUNK! They used to be nice, thick pieces. But now, they're as skinny as deli meat. The baby octopus cost $12, and comes with six pieces. That's rough. It should really be advertised on the menu that portion sizes like that have shrunk so much. My friend said the broth tasted different than before. I didn't notice, so that's not influencing my review, but I did want to note that comment. For some reason, they run the credit card at table side now and make you put in the tip in front of the staff. Call me old fashioned, but this makes me uncomfortable. All in all, not returning anytime soon. Shame, because this used to be a great spot.
google avatar

Wendy V.

Yelp
Food was ok! Broth didn't have much flavor. Sushi wasn't that great. Service was good from the host to the waiter and when we left. Disappointed with the food.
google avatar

Yelp
DELICIOUS Kopan Sushi is a must-visit for sushi lovers in town. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy and inviting, and the service is top-notch. The menu offers an impressive selection of sushi rolls, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes. The sushi is fresh and beautifully presented, and the rolls are packed with flavor. The restaurant uses high-quality ingredients, and the attention to detail in each dish is impressive. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. Overall, Kopan Sushi is a great spot for a date night or a family dinner, and it's definitely worth it
google avatar

Angel G.

Yelp
I ordered a vegan ramen and unfortunately it was the worse vegan ramen I ever paid money for, and I've tried quite few. In fact, I make much better myself. Broth had no flavor , I mean zero, lightly salted warm water with light flavor of veggies. Very boring food. I felt robbed. My friends enjoyed their not vegan ramens, though. Sushi were good too. Edamame was fantastic! I would recommend this place, just not for vegan ramen lol
google avatar

Ivan S.

Yelp
We come here often especially when sushi is bogo 50% off! The food here is great. My girlfriend enjoys the ramen and I usually always get the sushi and both come out really good. The service is great as well, a few mistakes here and there but nothing crazy to get upset over. It's also very clean, we dine-in comfortably. This is our go-to spot for ramen and sushi. Haven't found a place that'll beat Kopan!

Jonathan L.

Yelp
Patrick, our server was outstanding great customer service. The food was delicious best ramen I've ever had.The lighting in this room sets the tone great vibes.
google avatar

Yelp
Service and food was good but was surprised that my family of five which includes two little kids was charged a "large group" gratuity of 20% after tax. Thankfully our server deserved it, but this is where shady business practices lose me as a future customer.

Yelp
Saw this place nearby the area so I decided to stop by for dinner around 8pm. The location is located in a very nice plaza and the environment is very nice the moment you walk into the restaurant. It is a little bit tight, but overall gives the very nice comforting feeling. It showed only around 2 parties in front of me but it took a bit longer than I expected for being just one person. It took around 20 minutes to get seated but the server was really nice when he sat me down with the menu. They are known for sushi and ramen, but I was only feeling for ramen that night so I ordered the Kara Miso Ramen. I got the item as it is and did no adjustments. I also got a little curious, so I ordered the baked green muscles since I been addicted to it since I tried it at another sushi restaurant. The ramen came out fairly quickly which I was happy about and it tasted really good. The soup was also nice and hot. The presentation of the bowl was also very nice which made me excited to chow down on the ramen. The ramen was good, but the type of ramen noodle they used wasn't to my own liking as much. It was good, but not the one I prefer. The baked muscles came a bit late even though I ordered that first once I sat down. By the time I finished my ramen, the muscles finally came out. The taste of the muscles were pretty good but not super good as I remember it at the other sushi place. The muscles were also a bit hard to take off the shell which I thought was not so great. Overall I think this place is a must try again! I gotta come back and try the sushi because it looked amazing on other customers table. The menu also made it look amazing so that is a must try the next time I come! If u want a quick ramen, then I'll come here as well as it's pretty decent for its price! I'll give it a 4/5 stars because of my expectation of the ramen and the baked green muscles weren't to my exact cravings.

Yelp
Been coming here for years, I love to order it to go, and have ramen waiting for me anytime at home. I also like the atmosphere of dining in. The sushi is always fresh. The ramen is always delicious. They have quick service, with also iPad waitlist: I can never decide on what appetizer to pick! They are all amazing.

Yelp
After an outdoor holiday event in Calabasas, where it was 40 degrees (can't feel my hands), 10 people agreed ramen is what we need to keep us warm again. Thanks to Yelp, we found the closest ramen place in Northridge that we are familiar with and still open late. Here are some helpful info: 1. Parking - plenty in strip mall parking 2. Food - every one had various types of ramen and all are excellent. Just hits the spot especially in cold weather. We also had takoyaki (always yummy) and tempura for appetizers. 3. Service - consistent like the food and we have been to Kopan Ramen in OC and Burbank. Again, with a big group of ten, everyone immediately agreed to eat here. Never disappoints... NOTE: There is a wait list that you sign in upon arrival. Staff checked it immediately and suggested that we split into two groups (4 and 6) so wait is shorter (15 minutes around 9:30 pm) which we were ok. They ended up sitting us together in the end.

Yelp
Snoozee.... This is probably one of the worse experience I ever had in a Japanese establishment. The good thing is, there is no line at 2:00 PM on a Saturday, should have taken this as a sign. I went ahead and ask about their uni/negitoro bowl, and they do not have it. How is it a sushi restaurant does not have toro? I went ahead and ask for the octopus appetizer, again they do not have it. So what do you actually have? You should be covering the unavailable items if you don't have it! I ordered the kuro mayu ramen, and the ramen was bland, this is the first time I actually had to add salt to any ramen, ever! The Ginza sushi? Don't bother, they substitute the sweet shrimp with your regular shrimp sushi, yet they charged you premium price for it. The sushi rice is also an embarrassment, it was cold and hard on the edges. Finally, you should consider replacing your glassware, it looks terrible with all the streaks and stains... 10/10 would not be coming back here.

Erica A.

Yelp
The food was great. We were seated very quickly and we were wowed by the pitcher of beer when we got it. The decor was interesting to look at too, with all of the ramen references.
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
Sushi was not that great and very little for the price but the ramen is 10/10 amazing and the bulgogi beef is incredible!
google avatar

Jaime J.

Yelp
I wanted to have some form of sushi tonight and I believe Kapan Sushi & Ramen did the trick!!! It is small but very nice and traditional in the sense of a Japanese feel for a restaurant!! The people assisting me were very nice and I wish there was some way I can thank them all for their amazing service. I can't wait to come back!!!
google avatar

Karina V.

Yelp
Their ramen is bomb, sushi is pretty good too. Service is pretty slow but they're always nice.

Beatriz P.

Yelp
Amazing food !! The servers and staff are very friendly and helpful. We always enjoy coming here . Today our server was Patrick and he was wonderful
google avatar

Carol G.

Yelp
Kara miso ramen is my fav here!! Also love their sesame chicken & edamame. I would suggest to add your name on the waitlist on yelp because wait time can sometimes be long. But other than that food is great & staff is friendly!
google avatar

Elle F.

Yelp
Pretty solid ramen and sushi. I like that I can get takoyaki too. Had their katsu curry - tasty but had a long wait. Cute modern interior that works for date night or sitting with your teenage kids as they stare at their phones during dinner. Extra star for later hours and being next door to Daiso. Use the Yelp app to put your name on the waitlist - sometimes others have craving for ramen after 9pm on a weeknight too.
google avatar

Anabel G.

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday evening - it was pretty busy there was a 15-20 minute wait but environment is nice & live. Staff were friendly & attentive. The ramen was okay I felt like it did lack a bit of flavor- I like my ramen SPICY so I ordered chili paste etc & still felt like it needed more flavor. Overall feel like there's room for improvement in the flavor execution, but service & environment is good!
google avatar

Joleen K.

Yelp
I was here on Friday, and it was so good!! it was about a 30 minute wait at 8:30 PM. The service was really good and it's a little bit pricey, but the quality of the food was really good. I actually ended up getting two entrées because I couldn't decide. I got the sushi sampler and a bowl of Ramen which were both so good. The flavor was spot on. I actually don't even like Ramen that much because I think it's too salty, but this one was so flavorful and delicious. The ambience is easy on the eyes, too! Just a couple of suggestions: I got a Sapporo but I wish they would have light beer. I went to the bathroom a couple of times and the first time they were out of soap and seat covers, so regular checks would be nice if this place gets so popular. I really like this place and I will return!
google avatar

Elle E.

Yelp
Not going to lie..... the only reason why I am giving this a two is because the servers were nice. The food however was lacking a lot. My friend and I got the saddest looking bento boxes at such an expensive cost. (Even ihop had a better salmon dinner than this... and even that statement is sad) The container was so small that the small salmon fit perfectly...it's sushi thin and dry. I know this place is not known for its bento box but the selection in the box really was lacking and a little effort could be made. Its a bento for a child. The tempura is not crunchy and seems to be cooked hours ago... and whatever that shrimp and scallop medley was terrible. And for $18, totally not worth it.

Yelp
Been here once before but years ago that I don't remember what I actually ordered so we decided to come back again for lunch. We came on a weekend, parking was horrendous but we finally got in and out our name down on the wait list. Only 2 parties ahead of us so we didn't wait very long and got seated almost immediately. The first thing I noticed walking in was the dim lighting but also super sticky floor throughout the entire restaurant. Maybe it's the cleaning product they use? The host took us to our table and a few minutes later, the waiter got our drink order. After we got our drinks, we ordered a few things. The food came out quite slow and the first thing I got was the yellowtail sushi as expected since it's a small, 2 piece item. However, it didn't come with ginger or anything and I had to ask for it. Maybe they don't normally provide it since it's not a whole roll? Most places do at least. Took a bit for our waitress to get us some ginger and extra plates for sharing but soon after, the rest of our food slowly came out. Love the thick slices of yellowtail that they have here! Definitely much more worth your money than a lot of sushi restaurants that give you the tiniest pieces. The Gyoza, bento box, tamago, and golden tiger roll were perfect. Great serving sizes and huge rolls. Normally I can finish one since a lot of places give smaller roll slices but this place gave big slices and I had to take a few pieces home for later. Food and service were pretty good and would definitely come back! IG: @ammysalamii

Yelp
The food is always amazing, they have better hot food than the sushi. Ramen amazing. But the service sucks, they are very slow almost like the waiters be hiding in the back. Couple tables be having to flag them down. This place would be too if they got better servers.
google avatar

Yelp
One star is way too much for those guys Horrible experience Low quality sushi Rolls are literally falling apart Waitress are very rude I asked for a menu and I received nothing for 15 minutes I asked for a bottle of water I received tap water I asked for low sodium soy sauce I got nothing Stay away
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Close at 10:30 but don't take orders past 10? How's that make sense. Just wanted a quick bite before I headed back to Bakersfield. It's 9:58 and they only allow to go orders. Once again -- makes no sense. Whatever. 1 star.

Yelp
The food here is amazing and the staff are super helpful. Inside has a nice space and lit well

Yelp
My favorite place for Sushi and shrimp dumplings & of course my green beans with garlic!! The Service is always wonderful & the Ambiance (don't kill me) reminds me of the Restaurant from Monsters Inc, which we find just adorable.

Yelp
I usually come here during lunch time on the weekend, the service is really quick and attentive. I love the sushi rolls and the ramen broth is really good! They even do half off rolls!

Yelp
Big menu with great food. Ambiance is solid with a cool modern interior. Great service!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night with my adult daughter around 6pm and there was not wait. We were visiting SoCal and found this restaurant via Yelp. Parking was a little odd, you have to go under the building and drive up a narrow ramp to a back parking lot. A bit dark in the lot, so we parked underneath one of the lights. We were seated right away. I thought the area we were seated in was cute. Was little booths for no more than 2 people. Waiter came by to take our order. I ordered a hot tea and water, my daughter did a Yelp check in for a free drink and ordered a Sprite. Waiter came back with our drinks and I was surprised my tea had a tea bag in it. I would say the majority of really good Sushi places don't deliver tea with a tea bag in it unless it's a whole pot of team. I had the Kuro Mayu Ramen and a side appetizer of the tempura. My daughter had the Mango Lover Roll and B.S.C.R. My tempura appetizer arrived. Lightly tempura battered, but the shrimp was in a panko batter and not the tempura, which I thought was odd. Then my ramen arrived. I looked at it and noticed that there was no Black Garlic Oil in it. I had to stop the waiter to ask him as it states in the menu that it as the black garlic oil. He said he would be right back. Then he brought me a little cup of the oil to pour on myself. The ramen was ok. It was sort of all clumped together in the bowl as if they cooked it and then didn't separate all the noodles. Broth was tasty. Daughter said her 2 rolls were good, no complaints there. Then when we got the bill, we noticed they didn't honor the free Yelp check in drink, so we had to let them know. Overall cost was average for a sushi place.
