"Mr. Ahn's Craft Makgeolli is a most befitting venue for the Korean term banju, or alcohol accompanying a meal. What distinguishes this gastropub is its avoidance of the stereotypical Korean pubs and expression of the direction they should take—in this age of new Korean cuisine that is traditional yet imbued with a modern touch. At this charming spot, patrons can enjoy seasonally changing menus of savory Korean anju (snacks paired with alcohol), main dishes, as well as a wide selection of traditional liquors that simply get better with time. It’s a perfect place for both light meals and friendly social drinking—a versatile venue that appeals to distinct audiences." - Michelin Inspector

An Unforgettable Evening Filled with Wonderful Scents, Style, and Flavor From the moment you open the door, a pleasant experience begins. The subtle scent of pine and wood that fills the space is incredibly calming, and the five flower vases on the large central table immediately make you feel welcome, raising your anticipation for the meal. It's thoughtful details like these that make a dinner feel special. I appreciated how the menu was thoughtfully laid out, guiding you from "one-bite" starters to a final "finish." You could feel their pride in the food from the first page, where they mention their commitment to using high-quality domestic ingredients and authentic Korean spirits. The 'Cheongmyeong Takju' we had was the perfect choice to accompany the meal. It was clean and crisp, without any artificial sweetness, making it a great pairing for everything we ate. The most memorable dish for me was the 'Dubu Hansang' (Tofu Platter). I was impressed that they specified it was made with "Paju Jangdan soybeans." The soft tofu was dressed in fragrant perilla oil and topped with savory fermented shrimp and salty pollack roe. The harmony of these flavors was just fantastic; I was amazed at how they created such a new and delicious combination from familiar ingredients. The 'Garaetteok Gui' (Grilled Rice Cake) for dessert was a pleasant surprise. It was served with sweet grain syrup and caramel, but also a "5-year aged soy sauce," which was a stroke of genius. The savory depth of the soy sauce added to the sweetness of the syrup and the toastiness of the rice cake created a sophisticated "sweet and salty" flavor that was on a whole different level. It was a completely satisfying evening enjoying delicious food and drinks in a wonderful atmosphere. I was surprised once more when I saw the bill and realized the entire experience cost only 123,000 KRW. I'm so happy to have found a gem of a place like this, and it will be the first spot I think of whenever I want a meal that feels both thoughtful and special.

We absolutely loved this place and would gladly come back if we had a chance. Make a booking if you can because you really do not want to miss out. The makgeolli menu was interesting as they arranged it in a way that you can choose one that you may like depending if you liked your makgeolli light or thick, sweet or dry. The makgeolli is truly delicious and it is not like one I have ever tried before. We had 3 different bottles to taste which was their signature bottle, one with pine nuts and one with grape flavour. The food here was also tasty and presented so well. We ordered the Ssam which is a mushroom, kale, smoked pine leaves wrap and it was truly a flavourful bite. We also ordered the Pajeon which was a bite that is suppose to mimic the Korean pancake - very clever bite that reminds me of the pancake. We then ordered the beef tartare (yukhwe), sonsubu and sundae. All dishes was a slight modern twist to popular Korean dishes. This is truly fine dining quality and I am not surprised if it is soon to be added to the michelin list is it is not already. Love it!

A wonderful experience ! Came here to taste for the first time Magkeolli and I was amazed ! The second one, flavoured bananas and pineapple was just flawless. The mushroom bites were amazing, refined presentation. In addition, the waitress was very kind, I made a reservation and I were super late, I was lost in the subway. The bill was a bit expensive but worth it. Definitely recommend it !

Very surprising place. A local jewel of finer dining. Their korean spirits selection is uncanny and unique. Their food is excellent and balanced. I recommend having a drink before choosing the food. Then, ask the staff to match their recommended drinks to what you want to eat. Small place, so make a reservation ahead of time and be punctual.

Delayed post: Bubbles and I had seen this place reviewed on YouTube before our trip to Korea, so we quickly booked a reservation. We indulged in all the dishes and loved every bite. If I had to choose a favourite, I would be torn between the stuffed cuttlefish, tacos, and pork. The matching drinks were also delicious, especially the Makgeolli, which was a key reason for our visit. We are both now seriously addicted to it. All the staff were incredibly attentive and on point. It was a nice touch to have the chef come out and discuss the dishes with us. Although we did not speak Korean, it was not an issue here. Thank you for such a pleasant experience!

Couldn’t recommend this restaurant more. The food here is amazing and such a creative take on Korean classics. The vibes are also Perfect for an intimate meal. I would have ordered everything a 2nd time if I could. Dishes are more expensive than other restaurants but totally worth it for the creativity put into the dishes. Slight comment that maybe with each dish it can be explained how to best eat it to foreigners (particularly for dishes with multiple components.). Not a big thing because this information was given when asked The makgeolli we had was the house makgeolli and awesome . We ate the Pajeon, Jeonbyeong, Yukhwe, Sondubu, Tteok. The Tteok was one of the most unique desserts I’ve had in my life and this meal was one of the best ever. Book on catchtable.

Came here because I saw good reviews on catch table and Google, so booked this place about 2 weeks in advance. Food was good, service not too much. We ordered the alcohol pairing 3 glasses and requested it to be a mix and match of makgeoli and other Korean liquor, but the manager seemed to forgot about it, so we got all 3 pairings of makgeoli. (The pours were very very little, it’s about half of small cups they served the makgeoli in. Were they rationing? It was ₩50,000 for 3 tiny pours.) Then one of our orders got mixed up, which resulted in a long wait in between dishes. I can understand the mix up, it happens in the best of kitchens, but definitely weird to be served tiny pours of makgeoli. At 15-16% alcohol content, and for the price, I’d expect wine glass pours, not whisky rations. Super weird for a restaurant at their standard. More foreigners than locals.
