Despite Restaurant Closings on Valencia in the Mission, Business Owners Remain Optimistic | Eater SF

"I was told that Korean-restaurant entrepreneur Ina Jungin Lee moved her popular Korner Store off Valencia Street because of increasingly raucous parties—an exit framed less as pure decline and more as a sign of neighborhood dynamics shifting alongside business health." - Paolo Bicchieri

I ordered a large specialty pizza, it seems as though they took a previously cooked pepperoni pizza and added RAW toppings to it and boxed it up. Definitely was NOT fresh, And absolutely tasted HORRIBLE. The pizza was $40 as well. I will NOT be ordering a pizza from here ever again.

Google
Worse popcorn chicken basket I've ever had, soooo disappointed!! Such a waste of money!! Fries were not cooked enough n the whole meal was barely warm n delivery was 5 minutes away!!

Kelly M.

Google
Used to be the best pizza place around. Not so much anymore ☹. The last 5 times I've ordered only once was it right or even cooked properly. We have gotten raw Hamburg numerous times when we tell them they don't seem to care. Too big u asked for light sauce... came pretty close to burnt and had extra sauce. Food the prices I expect more. Gets more and more disappointing every time.

Google
In Maine for business travel! Try Korner store and took a large lobster salad ! Very generous portion, very fresh and tasty vegetables and … 7 oz of lobster. Amazing salad ! Recommend this place ! 👍

Jeffrey P.

Google
Hair in the pizza. Not 1 but 3 🤷🏻‍♂️😩🤢🤮No one wanted to eat any more. I brought it back and they got me a new one but the damage was done. No one wanted to eat it. Made the night awful for everyone.

Anniebubls B

Google
They make the BEST breakfast pizza, but EVERYTHING they make is so yummy. Hot and cold sandwiches and subs, bfast sand, etc You won't be disappointed if you grab a quick break her. Prices are comparable with other places that are similar.

Lancer P.

Google
Ive ordered there for awhile. I still like Oakland House a little better but both are good. Korner Store offers more variety and large portions that OHOP does not. [Shown is the Greek Big Dog Burger box and Pepperoni Breadsticks, Ordered on 12/26/2023]

Google
Hands down my new favorite spot for Pizza!!! Now that my shop is right around the corner, I think Fridays the Korner Store is my new go to. It was done quickly, the service at the counter was polite, and the pizza was phenomenal. Great job to the staff.

Yelp
When in Maine, one must have lobster, right? So we weren't very close to the coast so I relied on my handy-dandy Yelp app to find somewhere local and Korner Store popped up. Some places close early so I called them and they were open and they had enough lobster available for a couple of rolls which was perfect! While we were waiting for our food, a good number of people dropped by to pick up to-go orders. Their pizza seemed to be very popular. The market price for a small (either 6 or 8 inches) lobster roll was a tad over $30. There was a good amount of lobster nestled in a soft, white bun. It was very tasty and filling. One thing I wasn't expecting however, is that it was a cold sandwich. Previously the lobster rolls that I've had were hot, on toasted bread. Oh well, it was still really good.

Yelp
Great food and great service. We didn't end up getting our salad and they delivered it to our house so amazing food is always great. They're always so nice and wouldn't give them less than five stars for anything. Highly recommend the buffalo chicken calzone is to die for pizzas are great salads are amazing and the pastrami sandwich is always solid as well as the chicken Parmesan sandwich you really can't go wrong plus they have a great stock of local beers and other beer and drinks as well as chips Great place.

Yelp
I have ordered from the korner store since I was a kid and have always been able to count on consistent quality and quantity throughout the years. Great pizza, sandwiches, and huge lobster rolls! The staff is always friendly and the store is clean.

Yelp
I love the Korner store. It's my favorite place to get pizza. It's gone downhill over the last few years. I've been ordering pizza here once a week for twelve years and there's a significant shift in quality. It's a sentimental place for myself and a loved one, so I'll keep coming back.

Yelp
Best damn foot long lobster rolls in New England!!! What a small gem if you're a lobster fan, fresh and delicious!!!

Conor W.

Yelp
This place rocks. Killer food. The 3 pointer sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
The lobster roll was outstanding. Made fresh and fast with a ton of lobster meat!!! Service was excellent as well.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Absolutely the best meatball sandwich anywhere!! Thank you!! I can't say enough good things
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Korner store has been an amazing place for many decades. The quantity of cheese and toppings on their pizza is incredible. The quality of their ingredients is much better than most (all?) of their competition. In addition they have a ton of other sandwiches, calzones, etc. It is one of a kind.

Christina S.

Yelp
Great food and reasonable prices Bread is fresh pizza is good and they are friendly special requests are no problem and they deliver

Yelp
We're spending the weekend in the area to have a quiet, getaway and we were looking for somewhere to have a late lunch/early dinner. I saw lots of rave reviews about their lobster rolls so we decided to try out this place. Pros: *We got a steak bomb pizza which was so delicious! It tasted just like a steak and cheese sub but in pizza form *the crust on the pizza is not like "normal" (like NY style, Chicago style or Greek) pizza. Instead it's crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and has a very slight sweetness to it. I'm a big fan of NY style pizza and rarely like any other style. The crust from Korner Store was VERY good *The staff who gave us our order when we picked it up were very nice and accommodating *Our order contained some special requests (fries well done, no mushrooms on the pizza) and our order was 100% correct *They seem to be taking COVID very seriously. All staff were wearing masks and they had a drive thru option if you didn't want to get out of your car when picking up your order *We were quoted about 20 minutes for our food to be ready which was pretty accurate *Portion size was good Cons: *The fries seemed to be unimpressive frozen, crinkle cut fries. They tasted ok but were disappointing when there are so many other tasty options for fries available *The lobster roll was....kinda boring. It was all claw meat which I was fine with because I prefer it to tail meat but it didn't seem to have a ton of flavor. The roll isn't toasted and there was no seasoning. I feel like if you didn't live in New England and you had it you might be more impressed but if you live anywhere near the coast and have regular access to seafood this menu item will probably be a bit of a letdown. *The girl who took our order over the phone seemed to need more training. She answered the phone "hello?", not "hello, Korner Store, pickup or delivery?" (Or something similar). So at first we thought we called the wrong # and got a residence and not a business. Their menu said the lobster rolls are Market Price. When we asked the cost of the small vs. the large she said "it usually doesn't change from what it typically is". Which is great but we have never ordered from them so we don't know their typical price. There were also a couple of other mildly strange exchanges during the conversation (not rude, just kind of strange) that made us raise an eyebrow when we hung up. I get the feeling that they're just really busy and probably used to serving the same repeat customers but it's important to remember that maybe not everyone is a local who is familiar with their establishment Overall our takeout meal was a pretty good experience from Korner Store. I think it's interesting that they seem to be known mostly for their lobster roll when it's their other menu items that seem to be the real standouts. I wouldn't spend the money on their lobster roll or fries again but if our stay was longer I'm sure my fiancé and I would be trying a few other pizzas from their menu or maybe one of their sandwiches that looked unique and tasty.

Michele R.

Yelp
Lobster Roll It was a foot long and outstanding!! There were large chunks of fresh lobster meet in there. Have a look!

Kelly H.

Yelp
Love Korner Store. Their food is fresh, well made and delicious and their staff are always friendly and considerate. Highly recommend. Their Hamburg mushroom and onion pizza is next level, ham and tuna Italians always fantastic on soft rolls.

Trav J.

Yelp
Pretty good lobster roll! Tried the fish sandwich, got 2 bites in and had to toss it, batter was so thick it wasn't fully cooked all the way through.

Samantha M.

Yelp
Working in the area today and needed some lunch. saw they sold slices of there pizza today. Was honestly very impressed. Staff was also friendly and service was quick.

The Real J.

Yelp

Yelp
Best lobster roll ever!! Definitely can't eat it in one sitting saved the rest for later.

Sarah L.

Yelp
I've been here twice and the pizza has been great. My family really loved the take and bake kits. Everyone is adapting to COVID and I like their drive up and walk up window options. Their late hours also cannot be beat. Thanks for providing for the community.

Sharon A.

Yelp
Delicious Italians and Dagwoods - the veggies are sooooo fresh! My mom has been going there for years, but with the onset of dementia she and my Dad are in a care home, so she hadn't been in a while. A lovely blonde lady who's worked there for 20 odd years suddenly recognized mom behind her mask and was so happy to see her, made my adorable mom's day.

Yelp
The past 3 times I've ordered, its been wrong or incorrect. This last time, i ordered a pizza w split toppings on eachalf. I complained, they said theyd make a new pizza. I looked at the new pizza apon arrival to find it too was incorret. The rude cashier told me it wasnt wrong. I then showed them the toppings, compared to my order and she became irate. I tried to slide the pizza back to her thru the window, and asked for a refund. She said no refund, then flipped my pizza at me, wich caused it to leave box and go all over me. I had to jave the police come, take a report, and get my refund. The absolute worst experience w customer care ive ever had.

Yelp
The big dog pizza is great. I also love their calzones They have very quick delivery. I am glad that they finally chose to accept debit cards. I just wish they would get on board with an online ordering option since it is often very hard to get someone to answer the phone. Other than that I highly recommend them.

Yelp
I don't care for the lobster rolls here because 1. Mayo and lettuce and 2. Sub roll, not top-split. HOWEVER my entire mayo and lettuce-loving family LOVES these things. They've been visiting this place for decades, I've listened to my dad wax poetic over these lobster rolls with my aunts over the phone on Christmas, and when we make our yearly pilgrimage to Maine each summer to visit extended family, build fires, roast marshmallows, jump off docks, and tell stories, these lobster rolls are always there. The ceremony is a strange one, to be sure, and it has changed some over the past decade. Used to be, my Aunty (say "on-tea", not "ant-y") Di would drive from Unity, fetch as many rolls as her fridge could hold, then stash them there in anticipation of her siblings' arrivals. The rolls would then be offered, as though they were a super secret surprise, to everyone coming through the door. "Hey! Look what we have in here (grown man leads other grown man to fridge and throws open door with a flourish and a huge grin)...LOBSTER ROLLS!" Now, each member of the family will receive no fewer than half-dozen redundant texts and phone calls prior to the feast regarding # of rolls required and whose sacred duty it will be to obtain them. Whole? Half? Will we want to snack on one later? Are we planning to eat one for breakfast the following day? Do we remember how good they are? And also how BIG? The lobster rolls are HUGE, packed with lobster, and this store is the real deal. It's an unassuming family owned corner store, much like the ones that used to dot the country but have been largely forced out by chains. Avoid the tourist traps and don't you DARE get a lobster roll from McDonald's!

Yelp
Man, I dream about these sandwiches when I'm not in Maine. And I don't think I've ever visited Maine and NOT eaten here. This is the place for Italian Sandwiches. YUMMM! The hubby also tried their Kennebec special - man, it just melted in your mouth. I'm hungry just thinking about it. Mmmmmmmm! The only downside - no place to sit and immediately enjoy. We usually end up driving to the park at the boat docking area and watch the birds while we eat. Then, we swing for a bit. Great way to stop and smell the roses, so to speak! :)

Lisa F.

Yelp
We just ordered takeout from the Korner Store. I had the lobster Caesar salad. It was delicious. Lots of lobster salad, croutons, and shaved cheese, with the romaine lettuce. My boyfriend had the lobster roll and it was huge and full of lobster. We have gotten food there before and it's always fresh and delicious. We highly recommend all of the food here. You can call to order and they have a drive thru window, where you pay and pick up your food. The large lobster roll was under $30.00 . Well worth the money. Go check out their food...you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My mother-in-law and I stumbled upon the Korner Store en route to a relative's house. We were hungry and in a rush, so we stopped in to grab some "Italian sandwiches" (aka: subs or hoagies, depending on the part of the country where you live). We were anticipating standard sandwich-shop fare -- lunchmeat, Iceberg-lettuce confetti and American cheese-food product on a roll -- but were delighted to receive two healthy-sized "small" sandwiches made with actual cheese and fresh veggies. We also ordered a large chef salad which incorporated some ready-made olives but was otherwise made of real lettuce and substantial meat and cheese. All in all, a super good value for the money. Korner Store also sells locally-grown organic veggies at the checkout - a nifty plus. The only bummers were the onion rings (breaded and frozen, yuck) and the wait time for our order. I suppose the latter can't be helped if humans are assembling fresh food, though.

Yelp
I own Snow Pond Cruises and Historical Tours in Oakland. The Korner Store and Deli is the go to place for my customers who want to make their cruise special. I offer Korner Store Lobster on the Lake Cruises and my customers are always pleased. Whether it's lobster rolls, pizza or salads my customers are always pleased with the Korner Store.

Yelp
Got the worst Hawaiian Pizza in my life on 6/24/19 pm. We order there because usually, Pizza is good. Someone needs to watch quality control in the evening. Can't express how bad this pizza was.
google avatar

Lucien V.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches, generous portions, open late. Definitely the place for quick takeout meals in the area.
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
The best pizza in Centeral Maine. Incredible fresh lobster rolls at a good price! Very good delivery area.

John S.

Yelp
Really good food. Quick delivery and some of the best pizza in the area. Calzones are great as well.
google avatar

Darcie S.

Yelp
Cockroach in my sandwich. THERE WAS LITERALLY A LIVE COCKROACH IN MY SANDWICH!. I'm a local, I've spent $100's of dollars this year alone. When I told the manager that this had happened (never once happened before, after dozens of great meals), she was so dismissive and rude I was shocked. Between the disgusting meal and horrible treatment I would think twice before eating there. Delivery time also takes forever.
google avatar

Jeanne S.

Yelp
The food is hit or miss, definitely stick to the food that gets good reviews! Also, be warned, there is a steep $3.50 delivery charge that is NOT mentioned on their website or on their print menu. Not cool that the delivery charge is a surprise, folks. Not cool!
google avatar

Danie R.

Yelp
Apparently their chicken Italian sub is a chicken salad sub, warning. Super weird, not happy.. Their lobster roll is cheap but also tasted like it may have come from a frozen place. Their pizza was pretty good though.
google avatar

Hattie S.

Yelp
I love that they deliver; I hate that you can't put a tip on your credit/debit card. Food is great, esp their calzones. The bacon pizza is amazing!
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Love this place. From the greasy pizza (with the best bubbly crust), to the spicy hot wings, to the french fries, to the Italian and meatball subs, to the nacho salad--this place is phenomenal. I may be biased because I have lived down the road from it for the past 19 years, but this place really is great. AND. They deliver. Pretty much everything listed above is the best from their menu. I've heard their lobster rolls are good, but I'm not a fan of lobster so I haven't tried it. Also, it's just convenient. You can find almost anything there, so you can grab it on the way home or something if you need. There is no place to sit inside, though. That's probably the only downside, if you would even consider that a downside?

Barbara V.

Yelp
I never got past the lobster rolls. First thing we ordered, only thing we ordered. They are amazing. The meat of several lobsters in each one, didn't even pay to make our own (which is what we usually do when we go to Maine. Lobstah dinner yeah!). I would get a lobster roll (roll? It's a hero, lobster hero), eat out the lobster, delicious bite by slow delicious bite. Then fill the bun with a farm stand tomato and have a lovely tomato lettuce and mayo hero to finish. I could do it every day. Oh wait, I did. (Well, almost.)
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
I have always found the Korner Store overrated. Greasy pizza with soggy crust, soggy, oil-saturated fried food. Disgusting.
google avatar

Hattie S.

Yelp
The best calazones around. The service is great, delivery is quick, if there is a problem the manager takes care of it instantly. I am going to miss this place (I moved out of town)

Kevin P.

Yelp
Way to expensive for what you get, lobster roll had so many pieces of shell I could have broken a tooth not to mention it had no taste, wouldn't recommend anyone to go and I'll never go back

Tom S.

Yelp
Back in the day, Korner Store was hands down the best pizza in the area. Then things started to change. First, the dough:. They used to have really thick, bubbly, chewy dough. It was replaced by a much thinner crust. Pretty mediocre compared to the old dough. Then they replaced the mozzarella cheese with provolone. Which wouldn't have been a big deal. But they had the best mozzarella I have ever eaten. And all these years later I still haven't found anything that compares. It's been at least ten years since I went to there on any kind of regular basis. What did it for me was extra sauce started become hit or miss. If you are a sauce freak you will understand, that makes or breaks the pizza. There is nothing more disgusting than a dry pizza. And more often than not they would ignore my requests for extra sauce. No matter what I said or did I would end up with a sauceless pizza 9 times out of 10. And, no, I wasn't rude about it.. So eventually I just gave up. It's really not worth the hassle. I would rather go somewhere where I'm going to get what I ordered. And the last time I went there they had switched from real hamburg to that nasty fake shit that all the chain pizza places use. It was gross. The customer service is also hit or miss. I've worked at restaurants. I know what it's like. So I have a rule that I never order from any restaurant unless there is at least an hour before they close. That still wasn't good enough for these people. They still refused to make a pickup order for me at 10:50 when they closed at 12. I'm guessing the owner has no idea that they are so lazy they are turning down orders. And it was one pizza! My GF hates the place. I'm not saying I will never go there again. I will probably stop in and pick up a cheese pizza someday. Obviously hamburg is no longer an option. But I haven't been in 2 years. And I'm in no hurry to go back. If they closed tomorrow, I really wouldn't care. I have been buying pizza kits at Sonny's in Fairfield. They are so much better. We portion everything, freeze it and we can do a 12 inch pizza for around 6 or 7 dollars. Even better, we know it's going to be made exactly how we want it.
google avatar

Annie R.

Yelp
So here is the story with this place, it is a "to go" kind of deal. The pizza is amazing, the best in the area for sure, make sure you order "fresh dough". They also have incredible lobster rolls. From the outside it looks a bit dodgy but honestly the food is great, perfect place to grab some pizza on the way out.
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
I'm not in Maine often, but when I'm there, I always make a stop at the corner store and get me a lobster roll. The best I've ever had. No unnecessary ingredients. Just lobster and more lobster. Can't ask for anything more!

Charles W.

Yelp
The place we go for lobster rolls. Sandwiches are also good. Best news is that they will DELIVER! I've had the fresh dough pizza many times - I'm not sure what all the "hoopla" is all about - of course - I consider NYC the only place to get "real pizza". I guess I'm a bit of a pizza snob...
google avatar

Stefanae S.

Yelp
Their lobster roll is no joke! The small 8" is packed with lobster and the prices are so much better than the tourist filled spots around the coast. It is seriously so good!

Todd M.

Yelp
The large lobster roll is actually two meals! Well worth the $19.95. Perfectly made! Better than many of the lobster rolls downeast on the coast! Fast friendly service.
google avatar

D B.

Yelp
Best lobster roll ever!!! Huge lots of claw meat and the roll is great!! No hot dog rolls here!!!

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Fresh dough pizza not overly greasy and cheesy; calzones; a variety of generous sandwiches; great lobster roles with plenty of clear meat and a LITTLE mayo on a sub roll (the best in Maine for me!). There's delivery, or a pickup drive through window, or walk in to pick up sodas, packaged snacks, newspaper, or coffee (creamer powder though). No seating in or outside...go to the park on the lake or take it home. They're also supporters of the local schools. I've never had to wait past the time they gave me.

George R.

Yelp
I was very disappointed as my hat trick turned into a slam dunk, i'm glad that I smelled it first as I am allergic to fish. I hope this business will raise their standards soon.
