We had an amazing spread of food, all of it delicious. Lovely man took our orders and made the food. Will be craving this! Definitely recommend the chicken shawarma, hummus, pita, and kosharie!

I love "hole in the wall" restaurants but they are always a risk. We were feeling particularly edgy tonight & decided to go. I am sooo glad we did! First, let's start with the owner. Absolutely, the nicest person. My mom ordered a dish & didn't realize it was going to be spicy. Before it came out (by minutes), she asked & he immediately asked how he could fix it. Of course, it wasn't his fault but he generously offered to make her something else. The food was delicious! You could tell they used quality ingredients. It was authentic & made from scratch. I highly recommend checking this palce out.

If you like Mediterranean food...and you haven't been here, you're missing out. There are three orders I can't seem to stay away from. The Egyptian Kosharie is amazing. Chick peas, pasta, tomato sauce, and fried onions on top of rice and brown lentils. I like mixing it all together. If you like savory spices, this is for you. The beef shawarma is mouth watering. The pita falls apart, as the sauce soaks up the flavors of the thin luxurious strips of beef layered thick with spinach, tomatoes, and tzatziki sauce. Think gyro, with a tomato sauce twist and thinner, more tender meat. As out-of-this-world-fantastic as the previous two dishes are...my personal favorite is the chicken biryani plate. It is a very healthy portion of chicken, rice, vegetables, and sauce. My wife is not as much of a fan of this style of food as I am....as she's more of a hamburger, tacos, and pizza kind of gal. But if you like the spices, the Mediterranean, and the deliciously exotic. This is your spot. It is most definitely in my top five.

We visited Kasharie's in June. The food was so good. I was impressed that the owner personally served us. The customer service was great. The prices were very reasonable. The desserts looked heavenly even though we didn't try them.

Great food! Good portions, and very affordable. I highly recommend coming here! For sure buy that Baklava, it's the best in this city!

Google
It's a deli and restaurant. I had kosharie (the same menu name as the shop), and it was highlighted in the menu. It's a vegetarian dish. It has noodles, pasta, beans and chick peas. I did not find the taste that great. Also, it would have been nice if seller were more cheerful, which is common in other shops.

When I walked in to pick up my food, it's this nice little restaurant with just a few tables but perfect. It's great to pick up your food, go home, and enjoy. It's an ideal spot, and the Gyros were unbelievably good!

Google
Lovely, fast, personal service. The signature dish has a robust sauce helped by perfectly caramelized onions. I enjoy trying new foods and the large portion was perfectly sized to split with my son!

Yelp
Egyptian food is generally rare. So I was excited to go to this place. Egyptian Kosharie was what I was after. It is a vagetarian dish with rice, noodles, pasta sauce and topped with fried onion. It was good. There was no choice to add meat to this dish. Lamb, chicken and beef kabob was my other item. Meat could have been more tender. But rice was very flavorful. The pita bread on the side was also flavorful. It didn't reheat well though. The place is small with may be 4 tables. Mostly I saw people taking out food.

Yelp

Yelp
Ordered takeout via their website. The process was very easy and I love when restaurants have the ability to schedule a pickup time. The Kosharie (w/ extra sauce) was great, the chicken shawarma plate was ok (pita and sides were good, chicken was a little tough). The portions are large, and the kosharie reheated very well. The owner was very nice when we went to pick up our food, talking to my chatty toddler and giving him cookies (after checking with me to make sure it was ok). Will certainly come back again!

Yelp
Great place to get gyros near campus, it looks a little shady when you walk in but the food is delicious.

Yelp
Kosharie is one of my favorite traditional Egyptian foods. I'm so grateful to have found it in the US. I try to get carryout at this restaurant every time I'm in Madison. Delicious!

Yelp
Great little spot close by to campus. Needed a spot for a quick and casual dinner on a Tuesday night. Glad we gave this spot a try because we were met with the friendly owners who quickly whipped up our meals. Yummy meals with a budget friendly price! This spot is well worth the price. We ordered the gyro and chicken parm with fries which were good. The desserts looked scrumptious as well (they're on display in the front), but it was getting late and we didn't get a chance to try them. Overall, a great spot for anyone who's looking for a quick bite. Atmosphere is like a deli with dine in room so don't expect dine in to be fancy but the food at that price point and interaction with the owners is well worth it. The owners were super sweet and attentive. We were glad to have supported a small business! Definitely give this little hole in the wall a try. You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
This place is the best!!!!! They have everything and the owner is so nice. Love that they're open late. I've moved away from madison and I miss going there honestly.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here and I was impressed. I would recommend takeout. When I travel, gyros are like a comfort food for me since you can find them a lot of places. I haven't been able to find many good gyros in the US, but I liked the gyros here! We had chicken schawarma, gyros, falafel and a salad. The best was probably the gyros and falafel. The sauce put on the wraps make them juicy (not dry). We had a good experience and I haven't had other good gyros around town so I'm giving this a high rating.

Yelp
I came on a friend's recommendation. Apparently the eponymous koshari(e) is rarely found outside of Egypt, where it's street food. And indeed this is a relatively simple dish, kind of an Egyptianized (is that a word?) pasta. He also suggested getting double sauce (the tomato sauce) as that's where most of the flavor is. I did not do that and probably should have. The large is a massive amount of food for dirt cheap. It's an entire styrofoam container packed full of pasta. It would make for 2 filling normal person dinners. It's basically pasta with chickpeas and tomato sauce. I think my friend hyped this up a bit much for me and I came away feeling it was nothing special. Considering it's street food, not terribly surprising. Given his excitement, I'd give this another try but definitely ask for double the tomato sauce.

Yelp
The owner Muhammad was such a nice guy, he greeted me like family right when I walked in. Food was fantastic .. can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We did delivery that got a but messed up (delayed) which left our food to be cold. I can't blame the restaurant for that. We found the falafel and chicken shawarma sandwiches to be wonderful and flavorful. The salad was quite good but did have a heavy amount of dressing. The GMO omelette was not good - American (artificial) cheese, tasteless vegetables. Stick to the middle eastern food when you order. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are quite big. Next time we will do our own pick up and stick to the more traditional entrees.

Yelp
Let me clarify, I found this place in search for Kosher but owner stated it's Halal which for me is the same. I look for Halal and if not then Kosher. That being said, I picked up for to go. I ordered Gyros and chicken shawarma sandwiches. Gyros was good. Chicken shawarma, well it wasn't real shawarma. It was chicken breast pieces. Wasn't bad but was lacking salt and they didn't give salt. We ate outside so we didn't have it. Will go again for sure.

Yelp
I ordered take out after reading the article of the Isthmus that this was a new restaurant near the Vilas neighborhood! So I ordered a side of falafel and a small kosherie, the namesake of this restaurant. I did some research before I want ordered, and a kosherie is the national dish of Egypt, and that usually consist caramelized onions and a tomato based sauce on top of a mixture of legumes, rice, and noodles. When I got home to open my container, there was so much food! I ordered a small, but when I looked at the kosherie, this is enough food for me the last 2 days. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but with the 1st bite, you could tell how much love this was made with. In some ways, it reminded me of a spaghetti and marinara with chickpeas and lentils, but I think what held the dish together the most was the caramelized onions and chili flakes and how they added this extra layer of flavor that makes you have bite after bite. The falafel were good too! You could taste how homemade they were, were flavorful and crispy, and I would order these again as well. I look forward to going back and trying more of their dishes and wish them the best success!

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here after reading some pretty good reviews online. We arrived after the time that our food was supposed to be ready and had to wait a little bit. It wasn't really a big issue, but as a note it was quite warm in the restaurant. It actually made outside on an 80+ degree day feel cool. We ended up ordering the kosharie plate, the schwarma wrap with chicken, and the falafel wrap. The kosharie plate was the favorite for us. It was described as having spicy lentils, rice, pasta, caramelized onions, chick peas, and tomato sauce, but we didn't see any chick peas in the dish. That being said, it did have a very nice flavor. It also paired well when we added salad greens to it. The schwarma wrap with chicken was also pretty good, but had a different flavor than we are used to with schwarma. It was almost a sweet taste and a little greasier than we are used to. That being said it was a good size for value. The let down was the falafel wrap. I was really hopeful as I'm a big fan of falafel, but when we tasted it, the falafel was burnt. Again it was a good portion size, and if it wasn't burnt, I think it would have been pretty good. Sadly, we can't judge that.

Yelp
Wonderful little place walking distance from camp Randall. Falafal was fresh and homemade. Salad was delicious and the kosharie was very hearty. All the food was really healthy. Tip: pickup a slice of the baklava. The owner makes it herself.

Yelp
A Yelper's delight. Freshly made unique fare, very tasty dishes, served in big portions at a reasonable price. Service is quick. Only carried out from this place, but the food is always hot when arriving back home.

Yelp
Tasty and healthy food!! We tried the chicken shawarma, Kosharie, baklava, and carrot cake. Friendly staff!

Yelp
The Gyro is fantastic! This place is cheaper than 90% of restaurants these days and has better quality food than most.

Yelp
Kosharie is hands down the best food I've had in Madison. The kosharie (a bowl of rice, lentils, chickpeas, and pasta, topped with a tangy tomato/lemon sauce and fried onions) is so filling, so simple, and so tasty, I ate it thrice in my week-long stay here. I got a side of tabbouleh to go with it, and the flavours worked together really well. They also have a "secret menu item", the spinach pie, which I found just as filling and delicious (but the kosharie is still my favourite). I also had the carrot cake (handmade by the owners), and it's rich without being cloyingly sweet. The owners are such nice people! They don't bother you while you eat and they clearly take a lot of pride in making this lovely food. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for solid, filling food.

Yelp
The baklava was a bit dry, but still delicious. Was probably just not made that day. The kosharie was DELISH. A little spice in it but not much. They give you more spicey sauce to add if you like it hotter. Also, I got the large and it lasted me 2 meals. The Shawerma was pretty dang good- not the most authentic feeling, but good.

Laurie S.

Yelp
We had been meaning to give this place a try. We tried the lamb biryani, tabbouleh salad and baklava. Everything was very tasty, and the salad complemented the biryani nicely. There are other interesting things on the menu--their signature dish Kosharie, gyros, shawarma wrap--that we look forward to trying in the future.

Yelp
Very good food. It may not look like it from the outside, but trust me the food is worth it. Very good service as well!

Arfan M.

Yelp
Very bad food and very dirty works and very dirty restaurant. Be very careful when ordering food.
